Whats Wrong with my fone? someone please help - Streak 5 General

i hope im posting this in the right place, ive never really messed with forums before, but anyways
ive done everything there is to do to get a custom rom on my streak (StreakDroid) including the whole flash recovery, when i do that it all seems like its working, but when i go to where you are supposed to install the streakdroid (when you turn your phone on with both volumes ect) soo when i get the screen with the blue letters, its tottally different it says something like "insert a SD card containing an update file(/sdcard/update.pkg and the only choice it gives me is press up on the volume to turn device off. BTW i did already had the streakdroid on my sd card. someone please HELP me
if this helps i have a Dell Streak from AT&T
V 2.2
Baseband Ver. 2.6.32.9-perf
OEM Ver. GAUSB1A135331
Build 15697
Thanks

Sounds like this might help.
You may also want to read this.

i already know all of this, but thanks for trying, i cant root it eather, i forgot to mention, it keeps failing, and ive tryed all versions of oneclick

Do this - you do not need root to use that method and is you read the previous links I posted you will figure out how to use StreakMod Recovery even if you aren't rooted.

I got same problem when I installed custom rom at very first time from stock 2.2.
Do this if still can boot to stock rom..
1) Rooting with Gingerbreak.apk , this will work..
2) After rooting done, use R.E and change one file in the system as this file automatically blocked custom recovery when reboot so your problem happened... your DS5 still booted on stock recovery even already flashed StreakMod recovery...
Read this.
3) After modifying one system file then flash StreakMod recovery then you can continue....
Hope this can help you.

i tried that too, but like ive said when i first made this post, when i go into streakmode (when i turn it on with both volume bottons ect) and go into mode after that all i get is something like for an emergency restore blah blah , idk whats wrong, ive done the streakmod right and still,

i have att 2.2 rom it wont allow me to install other source apks

Regarding the issues faced by the OP on this thread:
1. If you are seeing mention of an update file when trying to access StreakMod Recovery, then you let the Streak boot regularly once you installed StreakMod, rather than immediately booting into StreakMod Recovery. If you let the Streak boot normally, StreakMod Recovery gets overwritten. If you're trying to install StreakDroid, then you need to hold down volume down and up as soon as you finish flashing StreakMod Recovery via Fastboot to use it.
Custom ROMs do not have the problem with recovery images being overwritten.
2. The recommended method of rooting a Streak is to flash StreakMod Recovery and then flashing Superuser.zip through it. One click rooting methods are not 100% reliable. The OP is attempting to flash a custom ROM, which doesn't require flashing Superuser.zip. It DOES require flashing StreakMod Recovery.
3. AT&T was supposed to permit sideloading on newer AT&T ROMs. Go to Settings>Applications and make sure "Unknown Sources" is checked. If the option is not present in the ROM, then either the ROM must be changed or a PC application such as the Sideload Wonder Machine must be used.
OP, you were attempting to change the ROM to StreakDroid. Did you change your mind?

Gee - the same info was available from my first post in this thread. All you had to do was click on a link and actually read. If you had you would have had the answer less then an hour after your OP.

I need help please... messed up loaded ROMs

Basically I unlocked bootloader and tried to load ROM. I tried the Desire and Cynagen. I was not successful at either. I manage to do a factory reset and the phone is working, except my wi-fi is shot, and when i recieve the initial OTA update it starts to download and then stops and I get the triangle of death as I call it with the lil android guy. did you try to load rom in the recovery img? This also happened to me (triangle with the android guy) and I thought I couldnt flash custom roms. For some reason the regular reboot to recovery mode gives me the triangle of death as you call it.
I got around this by loading in into bootloader mode then going to my command console, getting to my skd tools folder, and then typing
fastboot boot (whatever recovery img you used)
Then everything worked perfectly.
They are going to move this to General....
You did not follow the steps correctly it sounds.
Did you Load Amon Ras Recovery?
IF YES,
GO into Recovery
WIPE data
Flash Cyanogen's Latest ROM
Flash Google Apps available on Cyanogen's front page Post
In future ALWAYS nandroid Backup...
If you did not load Amon Ra's Recovery, you should go do this from fastboot.
I'll try to explain it to you:
1. The Bootloader is unlocked (you see the open lock at the first screen)? If you don't see the lock this is the first you should do or send it directly in for repair!
2. Then you have to flash the Recovery ROM (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=611829) This you need to flash an update.zip Exact instalation guide is in the Link.
3. The ROM. If you want Stock then here you'll find it as an update.zip: http://android.modaco.com/content/g...-online-kitchen-optional-root-insecure-himem/
Choose one without includet Radio ROM!!! (See below why!)
4. Copy the ROM to your SD Card Root
5. Go into Recovery ROM (Vol Down with Power and then select recovery with the Volume button). There you select wipe and choose the first entry there (wipe data and cache)
6. Stay in Recovery ROM and selct Flash from update.zip and select the update.zip. Wait until everything is done and you are promted to reset your N1.
(DON'T MESS AROUND WITH THE RADIO ROM IF YOU DON'T KNOW EXACTLY WHAT YOU ARE DOING. DON'T UNDERSTAND ME WRONG, I THINK YOU HAVE NO GLIMPS WHAT YOU ARE DOING SO BETTER LEAVE THE RADIO ROM ALONE!!! YOU MAY BRICK (DESTROY) YOUR PHONE WITH IT!!! If you dont believe: http://android.modaco.com/content/g...odaco-com/303716/nexus-cannot-on-after-flash/)
7. There should be no 7. Everything should be fine by now.
Hope I could help.

dell streak boots into stock recovery image after successful recover image flash

Ok, so I recently bought a used dell streak off of a friend, and although I like it, I don't like dell's ROM, so my main goal here is to install a custom rom.(Specifically, streakdroid 2.0.0). I was able to root my phone, however I am having issues flashing the recovery image,to get to installing the custom rom. I have tried using rom manager to install clockwork, and when I do it says it installs fine, but when I tell it to reboot into clockwork, the phone just boots up normally into android. When I boot using power + vol up + vol down, it just boots into the stock recovery image. I have also tried using fastboot to flash the recovery image using the clockwork recovery image for the dell streak. The command line says the flash was completed, yet again when I boot into the recovery image it is still the dell streak stock recovery image. I also renamed the file: system/ect/install-recovery.sh to system/ect/install-recovery.sh.bak , following another post's advice, still no luck. I have spent several hours looking on forums on how to fix it, and can't find anyone with this problem on the dell streak. I have also tried to find a way to install a custom ROM without using a recovery image, but haven't been able to do that either. Any help at all would be greatly, greatly appreciated, even a possible tip to point me in the right direction.
For some more info about my phone, I do believe that it might be a corporate edition, I don't know if that would effect anything or not, the other details are as follows:
Model Number : Dell Streak
Android version: 2.2.2
Baseband version: GAUSB1A135100-US
Kernel version: 2.6.32.9-perf
OEM Version: GAUSB1A135100
Build number : 15609
Custom Recovery – Prevent Overwriting on Dell Streak
I already tried the advice given on that link. I can't even get into the custom recovery image even one time.
Also I meant to post this under the Q & A forum, if it's possible for someone to move this post, I'd appreciate it.

Rename install-recovery.sh before you install the custom recovery. If the phone boots even once the recovery is over written with the stock recovery if you don't.
Also - there are a bunch of posts that state that ROM Manger does not work on the Streak.
I have also tried using adb to flash the recovery image after renaming the file and immediately booting into the recovery image after installing. Still same issue. Also without even renaming that file, I believe I am still supposed to be able to access the custom recovery image one time.
You do have to enter the stock recovery to get into ClockworkMod or StreakMod. It's what you do after you get into stock recovery that takes you into CM or SM.
Rather than tell you how to do it, I will tell you to READ those guides posted above for the answer. If you don't want to do that, then you should stop messing with something you don't understand before you brick your new toy! The Streak doesn't root, recover, or update ROMs like other Android devices.
Ok, while I did have legitimate issues with rom manager it turns out I had a misunderstanding of how to install streamod,as you pointed out. Please forgive me, I was pouring over a ton of information in a very short amount of time, including being completely new to android, how to install apks from a pc, jailbreaking, using adb fastboot to flash images, all for the first time. I didn't realize you had to update from within the stock recovery image to install streakmod. I appreciate your help allot. I was able to successfully install streakdroid like I wanted, wouldn't have been able to do it without your help. Thanks again.
Glad to see you got it up and going. I can understand your frustration. The first time I played with my Streak I bricked it and took it to someone to fix and he didn't know much more than I did about it.
When I got it back unfixed, I spent several days reading and now consider myself fairly proficient in the art of flashing, although I haven't made any steps into cooking up my own ROMS or all the other technical stuff that goes with what these unselfish guys go through for us.
Have fun!!

Sorry to have been so tough on you. That's the only way to get people to UNDERSTAND what they are doing to their devices. Now that you found it on your own, you will remember it. You also stumbled onto some other info that may not pertain to your situation now, but you will remember seeing it in the future when you need it!
Here is another concise guide that is excellent and a short read:

Yea, I definitely understand where you guys are coming from. I do like to try to figure stuff out on my own, and did spend some considerable time reading before I posted on this forum. You guys gave the exact help I was looking for, just a nudge in the right direction. Knowledgeable people can save newbs like me hours in frustration. What threw me off was partially bad luck, but definitely due to incomplete understanding as well. It was the combination of rom manager not working , and me not properly understanding how to install streakmod that led to me thinking it had something to do with the bootloader blocking the recovery image from being flashed. I thought I was gonna end up having to flash the bootloader but definitely didn't want to do this as that would have been very vulnerable to bricking. I read the basics on the different images, and what they did before I tried anything. I did end up at one point with my streak not being able to boot, or update from an update.pkg but since I knew I didn't touch the bootloader, I knew I should be able to get it up and running again. THanks for the link, I will definitely read it.
did u try
flash the clockworkmod or the other recovery image. when the flash was done, it will boot the dell streak, meanwhile, press vol up and down, boot into the recovery mood again, I mean NEVER let the streak boot into the rom afte u flash the image.

I renamed mine to "install-recovery.sh.bak", but I have seen "do-not-install-recovery.sh". In other words, you can rename it to whatever you want.

As noted by the post just prior to this one, the system partition is read-only. You need to change it temporarily to read-write using a file manager that can do the job. I used Super Manager, but there are plenty of root file manager apps on the Market that can do the job.

[Q] Xoom files doesnt change

Hello guys,
i got a serious and frustrating problem here.
A few days ago my xoom was stuck on the M screen, so I used a thread in the forum and recovered it.
It solved myh problem back then, but since I had 3.2 before this and the solution injected me with Android 3.01 my problems started to show themselves.
the first one is that
<b> Through Fastboot, RecoveryMod, ADB </b> and any other way you can Imagine to install a new ROM or even remove or create a file,
All of them show success message but when I check them out I see no changes.
i tried fastboot and Recovery to install nearly every ROM,Recovery and bootimage in this site but so far it was wild goose chase.
so I want to ask if I'm doing anything wrong or if you need any more information here, but please help me with this
wow I cant believe it, All these masterminds here and no answer to my distress signal??
Guys I am so in trouble and this is the only place I hoped to get answered.
I can provide you with more info if you need, but please dont say I'm on my own here.
all these years this forum was the last hope for me.
i know I'll get my answer here one day
You are not being very clear about what you have done,, but I'm assuming that you reinstalled the stock image that got you back to HC 3.01. Can you see if you are able to get OTA updates to get you back to at least 3.1, or 3.2 if possible?
If that's my problem forgive me please, Ive written that post in 3:00AM
for the sake of clearity I should add some info:
1. I even tried stock ROMs but you see I cant even flash them (Not from Recovery nor Fastboot) the steps seem successful : it opens the package,it installs them and it says everything was a success. But when I restart the device I see nothing has changed.
2. OTA updates are the same, they keep downloading and when the sysem reboots to recovery to install them it cant find them.
3. You dont believe it if I say even files and programs that I remove from device by my hand(Android OS) are back after the first restart.
And you see it's dark magic! everything from a file to a partition are back by one reboot. I dont know what should I call it but I havent seen anything like it on the whole Internet.
So seems like I should make a competition for the xda experts here
Can you publish it so all of them can see it?

That would be relief to know this could be solvable.
I will look more too.
As for your post I must say:
1. I plug the Xoom to the PC using the included cable
2. I start the xoom and start fastboot
3. on the PC system has the drivers and completely knows it
4. I start with SDK:
I. Fastboot oem unlock (Completing onscreen instructions and reboot device)
II. Fastboot mode again I use Fastboot flash boot boot.img
III. Continuing with Recovery,System
IV. Rebooting the device anything is the same.
My ROM is unchanged by the process and keeeeeeeeps giving the damn error of System process error please submit
5. And with ClockworkrecoveryMod I have the stock ROM on my sd card.
I. I choose install zip from sd card.
II.Choose the correct zip file and start flashing.
III. Choosing Wipe Data/Factory reset will take the device into a complete hang. unless I first use the mount page to mount the System/Data
IV. I reboot the device and ..... you know nothing changed.
so thats my story.
Still hope to find something about it.
Thanks...that was helpful. But now I want to know the following:
Were you rooted before the trouble started?
What did you do to recover?
If rooted, what version of CWM recovery did you have installed? Did you do a nanadroid backup? (I guess the answer is no, because you could have just restored with that).
What recovery are you accessing when trying to flash a zip file?
If you can answer these questions I will continue to wrack my brain trying to recall where I saw that thread.
Edit: please check out this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1370312
Some of what I said to him may help you .

Samsung Recovery Mode is useless! Grr

hiya, well i am new to the forums been learning a lot and found out a lot of weird things about this phone.
Yesterday downgraded wifes HTC Wildfire HBOOTs, Firmware, Rooted it, and Installed ClockWorkMod and cygenMod7
so i am fairly confident when it comes to using recovery mod so decided to try and see what i can do on my galaxy 3
--
i have my stock ROM (rooted) and just how i like it, the only thing i want to be-able to do now is just put ClockWorkMod
on my phone, so if anything goes wrong i can just restore via the bootloader.
Read a lot today and decided the best way to go is to just flash the kernel that includes CWM
and the install method for this i read was to boot into recovery and install the kernel from the SD card.
On booting into the recovery (power home volume up/down together) there is an option that says
"Apply SDcard update.zip"
do i rename the kernel to update.zip? or will it see the kernel file?.
i did try clicking this update.zip just to see what it would say but it give me this message.
---
Finding Update Package
E: can't mount /dev/block/mmcblk0 (or null)
(no such file or directory)
E: Can't mount SDCARD:Update.zip installation Aborted
----
Now is there something i am missing? does this mean i cannot flash the kernel to another one
Grrr all i want is to just get clockworkmod recovery on this phone nothing else and its just seeming impossible
does this now mean i have to use ODIN the magical Mystical Tool that everyone knows about but doesn't have a clue where it come from?
or is there some other way to get this kernel onto this phone
i don't want to try the other options wipe data factory reset to see if the options are in there?
Sorry if this sounds dumb just i have no clue what this Apply sdcard:update.zip is or meant to be for
and if thats not how to update the kernel i don't see any other options to install a file from the SD card!
it's frustating now any help advice would be great even if someone could explain more about what this option does?

You have to use odin
Download the G3MOD kernel and flash it via Odin. Search on this forum and you'll find Odin as well as the ops file for our phone and a guide on how to use odin.

saying oh you'll have to use odin isn't really helpful
something like explaining any fatal flaws when using odin that you might know about would be helpful.
example do i tick protect ops? when flashing the kernel? or is that just for ROMS
some really in depth information would be really helpful and grateful not only to me but anyone else who's looking to do this.
You're over complicating it. There is a guide on how to use Odin on our forum so read that. You flash a kernel the same way you flash a ROM and there's not much risk. Yes you do protect ops. The process of flashing takes approximately 5-10 seconds for a kernel then your phone reboots. Just relax and do it. After you've done it once you'll be able to do it a million times.
Edit: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1372414 << here is the tutorial.

"You have to use odin" pretty much answered all of your questions since it did answer one and made all the rest irrelevant. You wrote all that text and all those questions yet you couldn't have written three little words ("If so, how?") after asking if you needed to use odin? You never made it seem as though you would need help if the answer was that you had to use odin, so dont shame me if I chose not to waste words when answering your post, which I did do. If I wasn't helpful the reason isn't because I was cheap on words, its because your post didn't require anything more than what I wrote (even if you did).
no worries thanks anyway 12 hours it was driving me nuts trying to just simply get clockworkmod on this phone.
in the end i decided to opt for a popular rom here (which will be donating after this post) the guys rom does everything i needed.
i made a post about odin 117 views but not a reply.. since this thread seems to be a little active
in simplyfied terms where on earth does this odin come from? everyone knows about it uses it but who makes it?
is there an official downloads page, their must be something otherwise how would people know when newer versions come out?
again donkey sorry i snarked, yes i looked into the guide it was great! followed everything and i now have a lovely G3Mod rom installed.

in the end i decided to opt for a popular rom here (which will be donating after this post) the guys rom does everything i needed.
i made a post about odin 117 views but not a reply.. since this thread seems to be a little active
in simplyfied terms where on earth does this odin come from? everyone knows about it uses it but who makes it?
is there an official downloads page, their must be something otherwise how would people know when newer versions come out?

Samsung made it, however there is no official download page since it is leaked software. It probably not intended for the general public, but I dont think Samsung minds that it gets out. AFAIK samsung uses it/used it internally.
No problem about the snarking, I understand what its like to be a noob, every has been a noob, but I do know what its like to be a person who tries to help noobs.

[SOLVED] Vibrant Root Concerns

Hey there. I rooted my Vibrant successfully, but realized I left some important things out. I used this guide to root my Vibrant: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=723479
The problems:
1) I can't nandroid (not that I need to, I only have 4 apps)
2) I would like to install either Miui v4 or CyanogenMod 9 but cannot as my recovery screen does not show me the options to do so (I only get the 4 options you normally would get unrooted, such as "Reinstall Packages"), so I'm stuck with the lame default homescreen.
3) I'm currently on 2.1-update1; should I upgrade to 2.2? If so, must I unroot to upgrade, and then reroot? And if this were the case, how do you unroot, and can I reroot using the same method in the link above?
Also, I was looking at this guide: http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/Sa...te_Guide#Installing_the_ClockworkMod_Recovery
and noticed the line "This guide assumes the Samsung Vibrant already has Android 2.2 build UVKB5 already installed on it."
Does this mean 2.2 is required to install the CWM Recovery?
Thank you.
I'm not sure how you don't have CWM recovery if you followed the guide as it is written. Maybe its because the 2.1 is updated? I would do the following and see if that's all it takes. You definitely don't want to update to stock 2.2 via Kies or anything of that nature.
Worst case scenario, we can have you Odin back to stock JFD. You'll be smooth sailing from there.
Search the forums and find the update.zip for CWM for our Vibrant.
Put that on the lowest level of your INTERNAL storage. Not your microsd card. For example f:\update.zip
Now go to your boring 4 option stock recovery and select reinstall packages. It will reboot to the same boring screen. Select reinstall packages again, and it will reboot into Clockwork Mod Recovery.
Let me know if that does anything for you. Also what version of stock recovery do you have?

Can pull that directly from my signature, if OP wants. (Only works on Eclair [JFD] build btw)
Also OP, You will have to have a ROM that you are going to want to flash saved on your Internal SD card. Jsut download it, put in a folder and follow the ROM OP's instructions. Since you are fresh and new, I would NOT suggest flashing anything of ICS or JB until you get the hang of things first.
Read, read and then read somemore. When it comes time to flash ICS or beyond, there is a guide in my signature. Good luck and make sure to hit Toast's "Thanks" button. He is a good asset to have around here.
Wow! I was hesitant to even check today, let it alone this early! Did not think that I would have two very useful replies waiting for me. Thanks guys, much appreciated!
I'll try the Odin thing out first before I even try to flash (you need root first before flashing, I'm assuming). Just out of curiosity, what is JFD and Odin? I'm still gonna try it out using the guides found here, but just curious.
EDIT: Damn, it worked like a charm! Now I have CWM. The mistake I made was that I only installed the Superuser/ROOT and not both. Gonna play with it for a bit now
