So, my vibrnt only send audio to my headphones from 1 channel :( - Vibrant General

Hi, suddenly the 3.5mm jack on my vibrant stopped working for 1 side. I know there is a replacable part but, I dont know if its just the jack or the motherboard itself...
Does anyone have repaired his vibrant replacing the jack? the jack and antena flex is not expensive but i want to be sure if that the root of the problem...

If there is problem with motherboard most likely it would be software related as long as there is no water damage.

Yeah, it was the first thing I tried, the headphones work on other things, and others headphones dont work on the phone...
Already reversed to stock rom and its the same
Well I guess better start ordering that flex... if that doesnt work either... time to change phone I guess...

Just a suggestion, but you could check and see if there is anything stuck to the contacts within the jack on the phone. Something could be keeping it from making contact.

I did, but nope, its clean there and also have a otterbox case which covers the hole when not in use, so It couldn't get dirty like that... Tried cleaning the pins with a qtip and isopropyl alcohol but not a single change... not even a noise when rotating the plug or something that make me think its dirty...
I hope that the flex is the problem and not something on the motherboard

The part that you need is only US $8.58 on eBay Item number: 250896342047

I doubt its tthe motherboard (tho it could be)... good lluck

Thanks, I already ordered so, just gonna wait to get it and let you guys know if it fixed it or not
Kinda hard to rely in Bluetooth audio now... audio quality sucks :/

UPDATE:
I received the replacement jack about a week ago, but just had time to replace it.
It does the same It's the ****in' motherboard >_<
Well, it worth the try for 9 dollars, but just feel disappointed it doesn't work
I though maybe you guys wanted to know and thanks for the help though

That is lame. Hopefully you can still warranty it.

PERMANENTLY fix your "blown" speaker

First off this could break your speaker, do this at your own risk.
I have tested this on 2 EVO's with completely "blown" speakers, they both now sound absolutely perfect. From what i can tell, it's a lot of built up metal shavings, they weigh the speaker cone down and prevent it from making the true desired frequency.
You will need a earth magnet, or a really strong regular one will do i guess,(I used a earth mag tho)
First issue: you have to take the phone apart, from there, remove speaker,
(has been covered on youtube so go a lookin)
Now.. take the speaker, sweet diagram huh?(its late) and drop it, foam side down, from about 3 or 4 inches onto the magnet. Repeat. You will see the shavings coming off the speaker and sticking to the earth magnet.
Do it for a few minutes or until the metal shavings are all gone.
Re-assemble, click your favorite player and enjoy!!
I will try to get a tutorial on youtube soon..
u might wanna add a disclaimer as some waterhead is gonna do this and toast their evo!

Done..Thanks and sorry.
Why not since you have it apart and risk damaging the speaker by screwing up the polarity of the speakers magnet just drop in a brand new speaker. They can be picked up for a few bucks.

Im on my third speaker in a year, and who want's to wait two weeks for the speaker to get from china? Did another friend's this am, zero problems. I can see where you would think this may cause a problem, but it doesn't, Sound is restored to perfect.
Just trying to pass on what has worked 3 times for me. I would prefer fixing rather than replacing, i assume others would too.
I see this all the time at my store, especially those who work outside and around machinery.
Had one guy blow 3 in two weeks before we finally sat him down and explained in detail exactly why it was doing it before he finally wised up.
just take it to sprint they will replace it for free and do it right there
Assuming you have not disassembled it and broke the seal, and you have a warranty, and you live near a store that does service work. But besides that, yeah spot on.

I work on Evos with broken screw seals. For the average customer, it means they've had it worked on before and the sticker wasn't replaced.
Thanks so much. after having the evo over a year and putting it on my work bench. I never thought about the metal shavings from screws getting in. Works as new
i'll give this a try soon.
This is a cool post but I really do see in the near future some idiots ruining their phones trying to open it up and pulling the speaker out

I don't see why it wouldn't, obviously the idea is that the earth magnet is WAY stronger than the speakers magnet allowing it to pull away the shavings, give it a shot and report back!

Just wanted to point out that unless the speaker is part of a matched pair, reversing the polarity of the magnet will not affect the sound...

Well it will change the entire dynamics of the intended design... therefore changing frequency, depth, and volume. Speakers are designed to push... not pull. If they pull, it will more or less push the sound into whatever it's housing is.

[Q] 3.5mm headphone jack

Posting in general since I had no responses in the question sub forum. Recently my 3.5 mm jack has in my opinion died. No matter what headphone, aux cord or newly flashed rom I try it just has extremely distorted and a staticy sound. Super sad because I use my phone for music all the time. Is there any way to replace this part? Is there something I'm missing or haven't tried? Thanks!
Have you tried cleaning the jack out? Compressed air, cotton swab with alcohol, or something?
No I have not but I will definitely try, thanks for the suggestion.

Searching at ebay for "i9000 replacement jack", looks like it's a hardware piece bigger and more complex than one could expect for a replacement, if it's really a match with the i9000 hardware.
Maybe using only a bluetooth phone is an option?
I tried cleaning it, but it's a no go. I'll try to search for a replacement piece on eBay or something. I've looked at Bluetooth aux solutions but they're like at least 50 dollars. Seems expensive for just being a Bluetooth device with an aux cable connected to it.
Found this from my searching, http://www.repairsuniverse.com/samsung-vibrant-t959-headphone-jack-ear-speaker-replacement.html I'll update this whenever I get the part and install it. Maybe I'll take pictures and hopefully this thread can help someone else even though it doesn't seem like anyone else is having my problem.

Replacement parts

Not sure if i posted in the right place but i was wondering if anyone knows where i can get an audio/headphone jack replacement mine is cracked at the top. The only thing i can find are the housing and rear speaker. Any help greatly appreciated.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA
The part that is most likely cracked would be the port on the housing and not the jack itself but if it is the actual jack ita not going to be repairable as it is soldered to the logic board which is done with micro solders which is next to impossible to do by hand

I just noticed a few days ago, that my sound was going in & out or getting staticky while using my Beats...I unplugged it & realized that I have to plug it -just so- so the sound stayed clear. I was hoping I had just improperly plugged it.
So if it's the latter, it's shot with no hope of warranty service/replacement... unless I unroot & reflash the stock ROM, yea?
Discouraging **sigh**

generally i agree with you... but i think that the headphone plug is looked at like the charging port. it is meant to be used and if it breaks they should fix/replace it. They jsut dont want to be replacing phones because of people dropping/throwing their phones. I myself have NEVER dropped my evo and iv had it for about a year and a half.

I agree. My cell is <4 mos old. It is in pristene condition, I have a tank of a case and it has not been mistreated. If I took it back to my cell provider...at the very least...I'd hope they'd try to send it in for warranty (see what happens) and offer me a decent deal for a replacement. I've learned though...that customer/warranty service...does not always work out the way we think it should.
Appreciate the feedback.
if your rooted call them first. then if they say they will replace/fix it you can unroot and get it taken care of. just trying to keep you from unrooting and taking it in if they arent gonna do anything.
and a side note, a headphone jack, hdmi port and charger port are not "physical" damage... technically they are, you can see them, but if damaged/not working it is very unlikely that you did anyhting to it for it to quit working. on older phones, iv had messed up antennas, bad charging ports, headphone jacks with plugs broken off inside, buttons that came off and they either fixed/replaced the phone. They will even replace your battery if it stops holding a charge if its less than a year old (free of charge) unless I just have an awesome repair center in my area that is very customer oriented.

Turns out this Atrix I have is having some wacky issues...
No sound from rear speaker, no sound from headphone jack[already tried the contact fix], and the wifi is not working at all. Just wondering if anyone out there has a spare logic board laying around that's known to be fully working?? willing to pay a REASONABLE price but just saying I'm totally cool with donations too!

We recently bought two pieces of motherboard for $19.90 each + shipping on ebay. It's rare but sometimes it shows.
Yeah, this phone is known for spontaneously falling apart. Shame, because it's a good device.

well i i know the digitizer worked. so im going to try putting my old cracked screen on. this is getting annoying...
Going to sound really weird. When you reassembled the phone your white antenna cable near the bottom of the phone crosses over a connection right before it plugs in. Is that connection covered with a non conductive material or no? Reason I ask is that I have recently performed this repair myself and ran into an issue similar to this. Believe it or not but shielding that connection from the antenna cable with a piece of electrical tape fixed the crazy acting screen I had.
Here's a link to the thread I had with a video how to I found.
