Windows Mobile 6.5 from HD2? - Desire HD General

Okay, I know this is gonna be a huge controversy, but that's not why I'm posting this. I am somewhat knowledgeable in how these phones work, and always like to try something new. Some people like Android, some like Windows Mobile. Thats why I propose this. Make an attempt to port Windows Mobile from the HD2. It seems to be the most similar phone to ours running Windows Mobile, and with as much as Windows Mobile has been "modded" or "hacked", whatever you wish to call it, I think it'd be possible. First matter would be getting it to boot in the first place, then drivers, etc. I don't know the chances of doing it or anything, but I'm gonna give it a try anyway. If you wanna help me out, let me know.
EDIT: If any devs are wanting to tackle this, I have found what seems to be extracted roms for the HD2 and the SE Xperia x1. Link: http://goo.gl/f4hWa. I am unsure of how to do this, so I'm pretty well confused. Any help is appreciated.

Any news on an WM sd based version on HD2?
When I had mine, people where talking about this possibility.
Maybe then it would be easier to port to DHD.
Personally, I'm not interested.
But it would be a nice challenge.

Yeah I need to get it all extracted first. Gonna take time since its new to me.

Port wp7.5 would be more awesome..
Wm6.5 LOL...
Sent from my HTC Desire HD using XDA App

Get 6.5 and that'll be possible. Going straight to porting 7.5 is like a nerd thinking he can date the hottest girl in school.
Sent from my Inspire 4G using XDA App

The problem with Windows Mobile is that the developers wont port it due to licensing issues. If they do and post the ROM here XDA will get a big lawsuit from Microsoft. The reason they can port Android to everything is because Android is open source and there are no licensing restrictions. Microsoft has locked down WM and to modify it would be breaking the rules and will cause some legal issues.

Wowww.... Everyone with winmo already on their phones modifies so that makes little sense.
Sent from my Inspire 4G using XDA App

7.5 yes, not 6.5! I hated 6.5 on my hd2, it looked so old and clunky.

Because people who have Windows Mobile/Windows Phone on their phones have a license from Microsoft to use the software. Posting a hacked version for people to use who don't already have said license would be akin to posting warez which is banned under forum rules.
Unless you've already got windows mobile legitimately running on another device that you own; maybe you could delete it from that phone and claim that you were using that license to run it on your DHD instead...
Not going to happen.

I agree with the sentiment, It would be nice to see WP7.5+ on our beloved DHD's.
But read this article about what MS did in the days of WM.
I don't think XDA would want that again.

One thread wasn't enough? You had to spam all the HD2 boards with this even though it has nothing to do with Android development?

I don't think there is anything wrong with that, I don't really look at any of the boards except this one so I wouldn't have seen it otherwise.
I think it's annoying if it's not true. (See page 3 of the first thread.)
its just a matter of time. It wouldn't surprise me if the elite XDA devs been working on this for weeks maybe months....
Well it seems real, but as you can see the bottom part of the HD2 is not visible. Probably they have plugged in a USB cable as soon as the bottom got out of view, and are running it through an emulator on their PC or something. I think it's fake
did you post this in every section of the forum??
please try and contain your excitement......
I hope its real, i would run it.
It looks legit to me but then again it could be a shell replacement/rom that someone outside of XDAD has created. Either way, it looks to be pretty smooth. I'm still not sure if I like how "simple" everything looks though. M$ is on the right track with the simple UI because more people will be willing to try it out but they maybe should have given an alternative to people that want all the options.....not sure I see Android or even IOS users wanting to use this (hardcore users that is). It is pretty though.....did i just refer to an OS as pretty?lol.....
I don't see why you also posted this in the android section. Its not even confirmed. In fact, I hear it still has a 6.5 core.... so its probably just a theme.
I've noticed a lot of people on this forum like to jump to conclusions and only hear what they want to. And then will argue what they believe with no actual facts to back it up. This last paragraph isn't specifically about this thread... its just a general thing I've been seeing a lot in this forum.

This definitely doesn't belong in the development section. I thought it was bad enough seeing this in the android general section after already seeing it twice in the general section. I hear that this isn't even a real wp7 rom... its basically a theme on top of a 6.5 core. Nobody knows anything for sure yet. He should at least wait til there's some sort of confirmation that its real before posting it in every single section.

IPhone iOS for htc hd2

can be solved?
Sent from my HTC HD2 using XDA Premium App
Why do u want to downgrade your HD2 to an operating system made for dummies???
iOS is a closed its not like android in the way that the source code is available for the world to see... And iphones are all alike to each other besides suttle changes and has notthing in common with hd2 hardware... So even if the source code was leaked it would be nearly inpossible to correct all the bugs and incompatibilty that would rise and APPLES legal hammer would sue everybody

Guess it's that time again.
Some dude, without searching, asks if we can port iOS, then a some dude will give the very hilarious and completely original joke of "why would you downgrade your HD2 like that..." and be very proud that he has successfully executed humor.
Then someone takes the time to write a legitimate post with a full explanation on why it cannot be done even though the OP will never read it since he never bothered searching in the first place.
Then someone like me points out the worthlessness of the thread and most of the responses in it.
Then a couple more people will argue as to why iOS is better/worse than Android is better/worse than WP7 and the thread either gets closed or finally dies out.
/the end.

Same thing as walking into a Porsche forum and asking if they can put that 3-gear, 5.6 diesel powered engine from your old wifebeater into the 911 Carrera Turbo.

Yeah I was quite surpised coming from the HD2 forum how small the comunity over here was and was tempted to go for a more dev backed tablet but loved teh form facor of tab that much that I decided to go for it.
Im hoping that we may get some more devs coming over now that the 7" is much cheaper
BTW: Im not dissing current devs in any way, they do excellent work. Just saying that the more the merrier IMO.
My understanding of what this is would suggest that this won't make porting sense any easier. I thought it was a way for people to make apps more integrated with Sense.
Examples: 3D display, pen input and the like. Basically giving SDK access to all the proprietary crap HTC put into their phones.

Who knows?! The SDK for Honeycomb allowed people to make pretty complete ports of Honeycomb without the source code. The SDK woould give access to APIs and lead to more understanding of how Sense works. It might help.
I guess it could be worth a shot. It depends if it's the full Sense UISDK (like the Honeycomb SDK) or if it is just for making apps comoatable with Sense 3.0

You don't even have cm or aosp working properly, a whole team hasn't managed to port sense over to the galaxy s 1. A sense port is in fact possible, but it will take ages and a great team to do the job, which I doubt will spent their time in which they could've made money on something a few users would kind of like. Get a professional team, pay them, and that is when you will see your proper working sense rom.
Don't get me wrong, there are people who would like to try, but they will come out disappointed, for they will have to create the entire processor sources and get them to work on a closed-source rom. Probability of a working sense rom are very low.
Miui on the other hand is a nice alternative, it looks good and is way easier to port.
Something I forgot to tell by the way, if your s2 has a tegra 2 processor and htc ever releases a phone with tegra 2, which is very unlikely, you are in luck. If you have a samsung processor you're out of luck, since htc probably won't ever use processors made by a concurrent.

Siri for Android.
This is real Siri for Android, and is in Chinese.
As I am a Noob, in Android Development, So I hope someone can take the pains in translating this software in English for us, and also when I tested , It really works like my SIRI for Iphone 4s.
It replies back in Chinese.

whoa cool..
where did you find t his?
so this a siri clone for china which isnt available on the iphone 4s yet,, but works on android? if someone can explain how it bypasses the security token authentication on the siri servers then its easier to build one from the ground up..
Played around with it and figured that it was another app with a modified GUI made to look like Siri.
http://www.360iii.com/
Yes It has many features , which could atleast be read if someone translated it. When in there are 4 options, which hides task bar, you have options for running it in background.
There are options for 3 web redressals, one is chinese website, other being BING and Google.
So I guess a Translation of the full features would be a next step towards making the real siri.
Hoping positive guys...
If you guys need help in translating from Chinese to English , I can help... I understand Chinese language.
Guys be careful with this. As if you do get it working apple will issue a C&D order and have it pulled. China gets away with it due to their laws or lack their of on copyrights.
Just a suggestion change the thread name just a little
Downloading now. Thanks guys
-Sent from my LG-P999 using xda premium
Huh, looks exactly like it. But they wouldn't make a real one for android would they?
I hope someone translates it though.
"You know, a long time ago being crazy meant something. Nowadays everybody's crazy."
just played around with it a little, seems to work a lot better than the other siri clones
Changing the thread name isn't gonna matter. The mod team is no aware of it.
the only way this would work as the current situation stems out is via a proxy like the spire port for the older i-devices.. When it doesn't rely on hardware apple can easily change the software both the client/server sides and close up any holes immediately...
Would be good if apple loosened up on the world domination plans and leased siri licences to resellers with strict authentication protocols.
shame this is what it is...
I take it there is no way of changing the language on this?
