Turned on my acer this afternoon and I saw a download system update pop up. So I downloaded the file and ran through the installation. I was originally on the stock honeycomb update from acer. After the update I checked system info and saw that its been updated from 3.2 to 3.2.1.

Update
Cannot use iconia root to root this version. So beware if u want root.
Sent from my Dell Streak using XDA App
Can you let us know what is new in this version compared to the stock 3.2?
the whole user interface seems to be much more faster and smoother compared to previous version. Market has been updated to the new version and work flawlessly ie. Downloading apps straight away and installing them fast.
The lockscreen is still the same and not like the one you see in the A200 3.2.1 leaked version so that was dissapointing.
Haven't been able to test this thing out much yet and will update more if I find anything new
what kind of benchmarking apps do u guys use? I can then post some benchmarks and compare it to the stock 3.2

Uh, you can't use Iconia Root from 3.2 either, right? So it doesn't seem like the update would make the situation any worse, or am I missing your point somehow? I've been tracking the root threads regularly and haven't seen a root method aside from the downgrade one yet.

there is no major app update. No new apps installed. wifi is much better. im getting better signals compared to my phone when i am in the same room and the wifi dropout hasnt occurred to me yet. *fingers crossed its fixed*
The fluidness of the UI was just my observation. it had a faster response when you are switching through the home menu to the apps and switching through different windows and pages on the home menu. there seems not to have any lag left behind. But that is not to say different users will have different experience. i might be the lucky one who gets the smooth transitions =D

That's strange.. I sent my iconia in to acer in texas because it wouldnt update to 3.2. I got it back with 3.2.1. out of the box several weeks ago. It has run worse, slower, more laggy since I got it back. Before it was rooted but stock rom, bloatware frozen and running set cpu (on demand - I think that's stock).. I'm really disappointed in how it's working. If my gf didnt use it in the kitchen while cooking (has recipes up on the screen on a stand eye level) I'd sell the damn thing..

you cant compare this with a rooted, bloatware removed with a set cpu configuration. obviously that has been worked on and tweaked slightly to get a smoother user experience.
i was comparing this build with the stock OTA non rooted 3.2 build. sorry if i didnt state this earlier and may cause a bit of confusion. =]

Does anyone think HTC will give us the new sense with the gingerbread release?
I'm really hoping so. any word on the due date for us Proud EVO owners?
I heard somewhere that it'll be mid February
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
It's certainly possible we'll get it. HTC and Sprint have been treating the Evo very well. It's still a flagship device for Sprint.
At the very least, any minor annoyances, lag, or general feeling of choppiness will be phased out (im looking at you, bottom of app drawer) due to gingerbread finally allowing the launcher, as well as pretty much every other native app to use the phones gpu for hardware acceleration. Im hoping this works out well for us, but since we know the EVO's gpu isn't exactly a monster... oh well, I have an upgrade anyway

That's actually not true. 2.3 still doesn't have full HW acceleration.

Yeah Gingerbread does not use HW acceleration. I know when Android does, it will make the experience even better then it already is.
That would be nice.

I spoke with an HTC rep about three weeks ago, and their indication was that we would be getting both Gingerbread and the new Sense 2.0, likely in the same update, around the end of January/beginning of February. They said the update was ready to go before Christmas, they were just waiting on Sprint for the all-clear to push the OTA. Here's hoping!

i meant what things would come with the update. like froyo came with a flashlight app etc. or will we just get gingerbread coding and sense 2.0 (which would still be very nice)
I've been one of those people who listened to others saying "stock sucks" so i always flashed a rom etc.
Today after getting my refurb, and TimeWarner Cable calling us saying our wifi might not work for a hour or two...
I just checked out the stock i got.. 2.2
It was pretty damn good.
I rooted it later, but without the root and everything
Mine was fast! No lag what-so-ever!
Now i don't get why others say their stock is SO LAGGY. I've had more lags on bionix than on stock.
0 fcs
0 lags
0 freezes
NOTHING.
Is this because my phone CAME with 2.2? or... idk.
sigh....
come back after you have it loaded up, lots of cache and you are still on a crap file system... then compare to an optimized, zip-aligned custom rom on EXT4.
Thought you knew better man.
That said, 2.2 is much better than stock 2.1.
no i always thought stock would be laggy because everyone hated it.
I know i can make it faster with EXT4, but i'm talking about stock.
just stock.
I have 98 user apps on it.
It's running pretty well for me, thats all i'm saying. 2.1 was hell.
Lol, just lol.
i haven't tried stock 2.2 but there's 2 applications that i noticed that runs faster on stock 2.1 than any other custom roms on 2.2. That's the stock broswer and gallery.

Actaully after updating from 2.1 just a week ago I have the same experience as OP. The Stock BUILD IS FAAASSSTTTT. Battery lasts two days of minimal use. More than a day for havy use. I dont know why people are hating on the stock builds. Sigh... I have yet to root and put a custom rom in mine. But with HD2 all i had was 2.3 RAM BUILD(out of this seriosly. basically some system apps and resources are stored in the ram the the UI and general apps run super fast, faster than nand.) Compared to that vibrant with 2.2 is pretty good. Not as fast but very smooth....

Samsung 2.2 runs fine with a different launcher. Depending on usage touchwiz performs like crap, at least in my experience. The main reason I chose to switch to custom roms is because I'd already stopped using all the samsung software I could. I can honestly say I've had a much better experience on Bionix 1.2.1 coming from samsung 2.2

EB13 works pretty good. I do suggest, a minimum, that you flash the EC05 modem. My 3g works better, and 4g is way better... lower latency, faster wake up, and quicker connect.
Only reason I updated is for the developer support on ec05.
If you were just stock I wouldn't think there would be much of a reason unless you use your phone for a gps navigation system..
But because I run Syndicate Frozen I went for the 1.1 upgrade. Haven't regretted it. Faster, smoother, and same battery life as 1.02.

The kernel for eb13 also has bad code for the camera video and sports mode, and Ec05 doesn't have it, but then you could flash the twilight zone kernel to fix that.

It's because cell phone hackery has been around long enough to finally attract the 'old dog' demographic. Those people who never upgrade the OS their computer comes with, or still use Office 2000.
The idea that it works just fine by their standards tyvm, so why waste time getting something new if it isn't a huge change.
Mind you, that same old dog mentality means when a huge change comes along, they're just as crotchety and whine about why people are "fixing something that isn't broken".
Old coots. They eventually show up everywhere, hate change, and never seem to check into a nursing home fast enough.
I would upgrade. The gingerbread theme works just fine with the new srf 1.1.0 rom. plus until we have gingerbread all rom updates here will be ec05. Most of the upgrades are in the modem and camera anyways. I dont think they changed much if anything in the framework. I cooked up my own theme combining the gb and honeycomb theme with a couple new status bar icons but niether of those themes were updated for srf 1.1.0. Ive been running it since they released the rom with no problems.
I've decided to run it Retro for a little bit. This is a 2.1 Sense ROM based on the March 2011 OTA for the HTC Eris. As of right now everything seems to be working very smoothly. The Rom is default O/C at 710400 with on demand governor. Min CPU speed default is at 19200. You can easily change the cpu speeds and governors with setcpu or Conaps CPUBoost. I've also went ahead and changed the kernel to zanfurs kernel by popular request. If you want to use Conaps it can be flashed from recovery. There's also been a ton of other tweals I've added with some help from HaRdC0r3 so a big thanks to him for his input on this.
credits:
zanfur - kernel
btfb0 - all his work catching the OTA and sharing with us
Make sure you perform a nand backup before flashing. Also.. as always, what you do with your device is you're ultimate decision. No one has told you nor forced you to do anything so if anything happens to your device it's no one's fault but your own.
I recommend a full wipe on this update. All updates after this I plan to try and keep as dalvik only.

I wouldn't mind going back to Sense for some nostalgia, but I'm not sure if its worth dropping GB.
From what you got tested before the phone decided to go parachuting, minus the parachute, how does it compare speed wise compared to GB ROMs?

I honestly didn't think there was much difference in speed. I also had not o/c'd it at all. I was running it at stock which is 528. It can easily be oc'd with conap's CPUBoost or Set CPU as well. But I personally didn't think it was a noticeable difference from GB.
Dude you got a sick sense of development
Welcome to porting...
Ok. I flashed this bad boy last night. It is very smooth and fast. Of course it is 2.1 though. But really to me, when you have a phone like the Eris, trying to put 2.3 on it is pointless. Im liking this Rom. Plain and runs great. I think a black keyboard with white and gray lettering would be awesome. Good job man

Edit: I have found one problem. GAPPS is force closing on me. Every few minutes it will do it.
Edit 2: the market for some reason won't start downloads at all. It was working last night. I have cleared cache and uninstalled updates still nothing

But really to me, when you have a phone like the Eris, trying to put 2.3 on it is pointless.

Out of curiosity, why do you feel this way?
I have tried many of the 2.3 Roms on my Eris and have always had a great experience with them. 2.1 wasn't bad either. It was the trivial things that made me want to leave 2.1 and try a newer rom.

Well every 2.3 Rom I have tried hasn't been the smoothest. I was just saying that the Eris is getting dated. It is cool though that we are able to put it on if we want to. 2.1 is just so smooth that I find it hard to leave. I like both sense and aosp but if I can find a smooth sense Rom, ill take that any day.

Thanks. I am with you on Sense. I have always enjoyed it. It's what drew me to the HTC offerings when I dumped ATT and my iPhone.
Just 2.1 underneath made a little less enjoyable for me. Not that it wasn't smooth or anything like that but things like when I get a notification while I am listening to music or an audio book. In 2.1, the music or the book keeps playing even though the volume for it is replaced by the notification sound. In 2.3, the same actually pauses plays the notification sound then resumes.
I am enjoying Tazz Ginger Sense.
As you guys may know I was away for a little bit. I'm back and have some other things taken care of and I'll be looking into these problems some of you have posted and working on and update soon...
which is the least memory consuming? Can anyone who has flashed a ICS ROM post a Screenshot of their mem currently used in Settings? Or with any app...
Of course post the ROM you are currently running as well.
Also what you feel are the PROs and CONs of your chosen ICS ROM.
Any other information you feel is relivant is welcomed.
Thanks button please if you enjoy this thread.

Me too +1 here, its super fast, faster than ipad2 , and has whole lot of fun features now hope to see a stable version to play all the games
Here's mine just as a point of comparison. I'm running Thor's v96.
I have the face lock settings. But i am NOT using it. I set it up the flashed the acer ring. I like the lock screen ring over the face lock.. I hardly ever lock my tablet. I Think for the most part ics is great. the browsers are much lacking CHROME Will often end up dead at a black screen with more then a few tabs open with text tearing. Stock browers has artifacts and some tearing with the same text issues as chrome.. I think the issue is that acer does not have hardware acceleration tweaked correctly. if at all for applications. it seems the browsers are lagging not the os. as in the past it seemed to me it was android.

Hey Erica, I swear that I remember reading somewhere that Chrome and ICS are not the best of friends. Google is working on making their browser more ICS friendly but it's not there yet.

I think I remember reading that chrome only works on ics....
You are both correct. it only works. WELL KINDA WORKS.. do not get me wrong ITS MAD FAST Compared to stock honeycomb browser. But for me it seems to give me a black screen just at the MOST WRONG TIME EVER. GRRRRRRR. yes frustrating. The stock browser in my opinion is more stable then chrome.but this is from 2-3 days using ICS. it could change.
Thanks guys.

I would suggest reading THIS article on how RAM is managed in Android and that less RAM used does not mean better performance.

Good words for the thread! I am aware of Androids operating techniques. I am looking for the rom that from boot runs on the least ram. With no apps going except required apps. Thus leaving more RAM for all of your other desires We are well aware(most) that we have a dual core tegra 2 tab with limitations since tegra 3 is about to drop into stores everywhere... we still have a powerful device and anyway I can free up some space from the start, I will take I like minimalist roms... as well as fully loaded. ICS is proving to be troublesome for random people and I want to be one of the ones that says, "Oh... no SOD here. Just smooooooth butter."

This is totally true . The screen shot i provided was Right after flashing the rom NO Email accounts set up. or nothing.
Android Os lets things sit in memory but sorta static it shows them taking up valuable ram. This allows them to use less cpu cycles to wake up PREVENTING Ram and cpu spikes. Thus using less resources and battery consumption. Yes i nknow techie guys this is not totally exact explanation but its a quick and easy one. With the basic concept.
I will add the above is the reason why task managers that Auto kill aggressively will fight with the android built in memory management. Thou they are good for trouble shooting apps that are rogue.
Sorry if this turned off topic just my screen shot being a fresh install was not totally accurate now im averaging 301 to 320s and it looks to be the average .

Interesting knowledge.
I'm probably not alone in watching this thread with interest...I'm looking forward to ICS, while admittedly happy with 3.2.1. I'm looking less at memory use than I am at stability; since moving to the almost-stock-yet-rooted Honeycomb, I've had close to zero problems I didn't create for myself.
For me, changing ROMs (I often wonder how the OS image got the nickname ROM, which means read-only and implies flashing to EEPROM to old guys like me) is something of a PITA, since there's much about stock Android I rip out by the roots (including Market, BTW, so everything on my tablet is sideloaded), which makes me want to do it once and get to the most stable. So for those of you brave enough to leap into ICS before us, keep posting those reports!

I currently am running Icylicious 4.0.3, works awesome. Really a lot faster then before, I was starting to get frustrated with the lag in between pages... but it's better now! Love the rom, nothing's really wrong with it. Fixed dhcp drop as well as a weird problem I was having with my headphone jack when I'd plug my headphones in (had honeyvillain kernel before.) But yeah works great now! No face-unlock that I could find, but didn't really want it anyway.
Here's mine.
