I am currently in the USA and that is reason why I decided to decode my HTC HD2 before departure. Decoding is inserted last rom and everything is working properly at all, except now I haven’t 3G on phone (Im on AT & T). After few days I went in their office, but without solutions, they said ... Sorry but no phone purchased from us. Help if you know how.....edge is so slow
p.s. I have windows 6,5.
Hardware issue I suspect, if you have an EU or TMOUS HD2 it will not have the radio hardware & bands for at&t 3G. only at&t & Australian telstra HD2 models have the hardware & band specs for 3G on at&t.
Do a search on this via XDA or Google as well discussed here on XDA & many other forums ..
check your radio rom, please... good luck..

Radio rom has nothing to do with it. It's a hardware thing. The chip set used in T-Mobile and European phones do not have the right bands to connect to 3g on At&t it's that simple. There is nothing that can be done about it other then buying a phone that belongs on At&t.
Thanks all of you, Wil Badgeru is 99,9% right, my phone is not for USA.

HI Guys,
Looking to buy a Touch HD to run on the Rogers network in Canada.
Keen to hear from others who are already using the phone in Canada to hear of their experiences of the device running on Rogers?
Also seen that the 850 3G band device is now available in Australia so was thinking this might give me 3G in Canada. Anybody imported one into N. America and had any luck with this?
Thanks,
P
I have one on Fido/Rogers near Toronto, works great besides no 3G. Such a solid device and edge is fast enough for web surfing and email on devices like this due to bottlenecks in hardware. Wifi, Bluetooth and GPS are also strong on the Touch HD too.
The Telestra model may work on 850, mine is 900/2100 though

Thanks for the info. Has anybody actually got the Telestra model working on 3g in north america?
I agree with Zero...everything except 3G works well here (Vancouver). I've even got Caller Name Display going, which is great.
I am also using one here in Toronto. As with all above, everything works well except 3g.
Toronto here too. Works great. I use WIFI mostly and it works great. Won't pay the ridiculous monthly fees that Rogers charges for data. I bought mine from pdaplaza.ca in Quebec.
i think all of us got it early before the Telsa one came out so none of us will be using 3G here.
I just flashed the Telsa rom.....still no 3G.......suck....

Yes I would get the Telstra HD as well. Even if it's slightly more money. The 3G is worth it.
Those of you having one working, could you tell me what rom you have...
i have trouble registering into network and when i do...signal is ther but cannot make calls or receive them.
thanks

I have the T8285 (Telstra version) in Montreal. Works great on 3G network (Rogers). I have a solid and fast HSDPA when browsing the Internet.
It was working with original ROM, but flashed a Dutty 6.1 ROM the first day. I flashed few Dutty's 6.1 updates, and now I run Dutty 6.5 R8 without any issue. Those last ROMs are "shipped" with Radio 1.14, but I reverted to Radio 1.10 because the sound level was to low for my taste with Radio 1.14 (but was still working).
I have also tested a few 6.5 Miri ROM (working well).
So, I did not experienced any issue with any ROM...
Touch HD with Fido
Hello, I am using touch hd from sweden and now I am using with fido in Kitchener Ontario, but I can not get good signals and hardly can call any one and can't recieve calls, however if I am outside then I can get better signals and can call or recieve. I have a feeling it is because of 900 frequency. Is any one have idea what I can do? Thanks
touch HD T8282 working very well in Toronto except 3G. I have stock 1.56 rom WWE radio 1.13.25.24 very clear and strong signal even indoors
You need T8285 hardware. no matter you do (flashing radio and rom). It won't change the UMTS signal to 850. It is hardware related.
I couldn't help myself and bought a new T8185 a few weeks ago and i'm in love with this phone. I have it on ATT in new york. Now i hate myself for not having any patience and now the newer model is out. A few questions now about the euro t8185 HD2 in america now that the t9193 is out.
1. Is the hardware the same as the original t8185?
2. Is the t8185 now able to be flashed with a new ROM enabling it to use 850mhz 3g/hspa in the u.s. i.e. 3g on att?
p.s. sorry if its a noob question, im new to the world of HTC and win mo, but i did not see any other articles regarding this situation. thanks for your help.
1) Yes, the hardware* is the same inside and out.
2) AFAIK, 3G radio is hardware dependent. You can flash all the different radios you want, but unless the hardware has that specific frequency, you wont be getting any 850mhz 3G. Meaning, the Euro (t8185) version will not receive AT&T 3G/UMTS because it doesn't have the correct radio hardware.
* except for the radio.

1. NO
2. NO
Keep in mind:
t8185 designed for EU market but compatible gsm with usa ATT for partial functionality.
t9193 designed for AU/Asian market but compatible gsm & maybe 3g WITH USA att, but ROM dependent to accomplish that. You won't get stable 3g WITH telstra rom, but need customized rom.
t9193 hardware is NOT compatible for T-Mobile, at least no released model I know of yet.
HTC HD2 coming to T-Mobile, supposedly in March 2010. (probably a different htc model number)
Rumors are HTC HD2 coming to Sprint ( possibly android os model) & Verizon (as wm os) sometime in future. att...who knows?
Radio rom upgrades can sometimes improve your experience, but only within the limits of your hardware.
ROM upgrades cannot change the hardware compatibitity for a given signal. You must change chip inside the device for that.
ROM upgardes or customizing rom can improve your experience with your given hardware signal compatibility. (e.g. bug fix that improves signal problem)
Hold on to your t8185 until usa versions of the htc HD2 hit the market. Then, you'll have options. (e.g. change phone or change providers or both)
If htc HD2 is really a big hit in usa, then expect most providers to have it or a hardware variation of it, later this year.
Hello Everyone,
Anyone know the model number for the USA T-Mobile Version?
Thank you ,
Monnie
thanks for the info devilduck, i can't switch contracts till mid 2011 so i really wanted 3g with my current provider, at&t. Guess i'll just have to switch to 9193 eventually.
And to monnie, i dont think they have the model number out just yet.
hi every body please help me in this
my cousin live in USA and his network is T-Mobile and he asked them for me if he buy the T-Mobile HD2 will give him the unlock code and their answer was yes .. so he will renew his contract and will get one for $250 >> and of course me who will pay ... this the first option
the second option is I buy the normal HTC HD2 from Amazon for $717
so now which option I should choose
- I am living in Egypt
- my network is Vodafone
- need Arabic on my mobile (read and write )
- need to try the roms
- this is the first time I use the windows mobile
and all of this I will be able to do it with the normal HTC HD2
so what about the T-Mobile HD2 ??
- can I apply on it the Arabic without problems ?
- can I use the Themes , games and the applications of the normal HTC HD2 on it easy ?
.
hope some one help me
I'll do my best to help you.
The biggest problem I see with you purchasing the US T-Mobile HD2 is the 3g band. People are pretty sure that the US T-Mobile HD2 will work on the 2100 band (Asia/Middle East/Europe 3g band), but no one has actually tried it from what I can tell, so we don't know if it works. You will receive Edge coverage of course.
If the 3g works in your area or you don't care about 3g, then definitely get the US TMO HD2. The US version has more memory and is substantially cheaper than the unlocked HTC version. By the way, your cousin can also buy the phone for $450 without having to extend his contract for 2 years.
Keep in mind that in most cases T-Mobile will not give your cousin the unlock code till 40 days after purchase to avoid returns. You can also pay around $20 to get the code from an unlock site. If he buys the phone for $450 he can get the unlock code within a few days from T-Mobile.
Yes, you can put all the themes, games, and applications made for the HD2 on either the US HD2 or the unlocked HTC HD2.
Yes, you can put Arabic language, or any ROM made for the US HD2. The ROM has to specify the US version or the larger memory size. You CANNOT use any ROM on the US HD2 because some ROMs are for the unlocked HTC HD2 with the smaller memory and can damage the US version if used.
I hope all this makes sense and your questions are answered.

You're welcome.
You can follow the thread below to see if anyone tries it in Europe or Asia and we'll have the answer to the 3g working outside the US.

As for flashing the ROM, don't be worried, a lot of the ROMs out there will work on the US HD2. The phone has been a pretty hot seller here, so a lot of people will be working on the US version and more ROMs and mods will be released for sure.
Don't buy it. Phone pretty. Windows killing it
You need both Upload and download frequencies in the mobile matching your provider to get 3G.
2100 is the download freq, which is common to both Americas and EU, but US had 1900/850/1700 for upload and EU uses 900.
You have to make sure both the freq are supported by the phone. At the looks of it I'm pretty sure the TMOUS HD2 will not have 3G for you in Egypt.
Everything else you asked for can be done in both phones.

Egypt 900 1800 3G 2100
HTC HD2
HSDPA 900 / 2100
HSDPA 850 / 2100 - American version
and it works great in Egypt
T-Mobile HD2
HSDPA 1700 / 2100
and I do not know the different and this will not work in Egypt ???
I can call My Network to ask them but I don't know what is the question ?

THe question here is, although T Mo us use umts 850 and 2100 for their 3g, one up one down, i also seem to remember when reading up on umts/hsdpa/blahblah that some networks use the same band for up and down. If that were so, is the hd2 capable of holding a two way connection on one band? ie 2100?
(I may be completely mistaken, of course )

That's exactly my thinking too. Europe and Asia use 2100 up and down for 3g data, and they use 900 for Edge and voice. The only question with the US HD2 is if the 2100 band supports up and down or only down. Some specs for the US HD2 show 1700/2100 and also 2100 by itself, which makes some of us believe it will handle Euro/Asia 3g. We won't know for sure till someone unlocks a unit and drops a 3g sim in Asia or Europe and reports back.
Let's keep our fingers crossed.
T-Mobile USA, FTW!!!
In my opinion, "de-branded" hardware is always superior, but for once... not in this case.

Hey Everyone
I'm from Egypt. I already bought a t-mobile htc hd2 (TM), after doing a hell of a survey about the differences between it and the international. They r different in size, slight taller in TM and ofcourse branded.
There r red and green keys(end and answer) instead of the white in the international.
Band differences, but i searched for the unlocked TM, ppl confirm 3g working for carrier networks outside the US(philippines, germany, sweden, UAE, brazil)!!! So i guess it will work in Egypt since the band is 2100, i hope it's for both ways up and downloads.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=6735562
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=658567
Bigger ROM (1)
16gb microSD included in the box
The TM is alot cheaper even if it's sold already unlocked, i got it worth 470 $ unlocked from ebay but will come to me through a friend.
I will try my vodafone sim and see how it works and will give feedback.
I hope the 3g works as i guessed!!
Finally!!!
Wooooooooooooohhhhhhoooooooooooo!!!
Just got the phone, and the 3g network is working perfectly like a charm!!!
Thank God!!
Awesome phone!!! I love hTC!!
So that makes Africa included with the others and especially Egypt for the TMOUS working for 3g network outside the US!!
Go ahead HD2 lovers BUY........ and ENJOY!!!
OK I have done some searching around on this topic and I'm finding a lot of mixed information. I'm currently on the Rogers network here in Canada and I managed to get my hands on an HD2 for next to nothing. So I jumped on the chance to have a "boot whatever the heck you want phone". However, while initially researching the phone I only quickly looked over the supported frequencies for the phone to ensure that I could use in on Rogers. Of course it will work as a phone just fine, however, it will not support 3g....apparently.
Started searching about for a way to change the phones frequency and some are saying it is possible to flash another radio for say the European version and some are saying that's not possible. I'm inclined to think it is not possible and that it is a hardware limitation. I figure that this is the best place to look for some real answers. Anyone have some insight into this matter? Oh and if it is a hardware issue and it can be changed....I'm not afraid to take the whole phone apart to try it. Ive done my share of tear downs on other phones....just for the heck of it.
Thanks in advance
only the telstra model will give you 3g on rogers.
hardware, and not changeable
yes you can change the radio (if youhave a tmous ((t mobile us)) then you need to be REAL careful which radio you flash) but changing radio has no effect on the bands.
this forum is for the regular hd2, the tmous (if that's what you have) can be found here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=631
If you have the T-Mobile US version then you can use it on Wind Mobile here in Canada. This is what I'm doing and everything works great, including the 3g. I've loaded Android on it and I absolutely love my HD2!
Sent from my HTC HD2 using XDA App
I actually bought a Telstra (Montreal Fido user) because we don't have Wind here... Telstra works great. Got it off ebay from a nice aussie fellow. I wanted the Tmous one for the extra ROM space, but hey... As long as Android runs on it, I'm more than happy!
Welcome to the HD2 community.
Hello,
I've bought an unlocked T-mobile HTC HD2 in the USA and I use it in Europe. I've installed this ROM: NexusHD2-Gingerbread V3.2a (GWK74)(Android 2.3.7) and everything works fine except that it looks like my phone can't find/connect to 3G networks.
I searched already on the forum but I did not find any answers to my problem.
Is there anyone else who also had this problem and if so, what is a possible solution?
Thanks in advance!

The US model does not have the hardware to run 3g in Europe.
EDIT: Whatever you do do not try and install a European radio! It will brick a TMOUS. HD2.

Thanks for your answer. Seems like I will have to look out for another cell phone...
If your carrier uses these frequencies for 3G
UMTS: 1 (2100); 4 (AWS 1700/2100) bands
all will work perfect and problem in your Rom.
If your carrier uses another frequencies - buy another phone.
