HTC HD2 or T-Mobile HD2 - HD2 General

hi every body please help me in this
my cousin live in USA and his network is T-Mobile and he asked them for me if he buy the T-Mobile HD2 will give him the unlock code and their answer was yes .. so he will renew his contract and will get one for $250 >> and of course me who will pay ... this the first option
the second option is I buy the normal HTC HD2 from Amazon for $717
so now which option I should choose
- I am living in Egypt
- my network is Vodafone
- need Arabic on my mobile (read and write )
- need to try the roms
- this is the first time I use the windows mobile
and all of this I will be able to do it with the normal HTC HD2
so what about the T-Mobile HD2 ??
- can I apply on it the Arabic without problems ?
- can I use the Themes , games and the applications of the normal HTC HD2 on it easy ?
.

hope some one help me

I'll do my best to help you.
The biggest problem I see with you purchasing the US T-Mobile HD2 is the 3g band. People are pretty sure that the US T-Mobile HD2 will work on the 2100 band (Asia/Middle East/Europe 3g band), but no one has actually tried it from what I can tell, so we don't know if it works. You will receive Edge coverage of course.
If the 3g works in your area or you don't care about 3g, then definitely get the US TMO HD2. The US version has more memory and is substantially cheaper than the unlocked HTC version. By the way, your cousin can also buy the phone for $450 without having to extend his contract for 2 years.
Keep in mind that in most cases T-Mobile will not give your cousin the unlock code till 40 days after purchase to avoid returns. You can also pay around $20 to get the code from an unlock site. If he buys the phone for $450 he can get the unlock code within a few days from T-Mobile.
Yes, you can put all the themes, games, and applications made for the HD2 on either the US HD2 or the unlocked HTC HD2.
Yes, you can put Arabic language, or any ROM made for the US HD2. The ROM has to specify the US version or the larger memory size. You CANNOT use any ROM on the US HD2 because some ROMs are for the unlocked HTC HD2 with the smaller memory and can damage the US version if used.
I hope all this makes sense and your questions are answered.

You're welcome.
You can follow the thread below to see if anyone tries it in Europe or Asia and we'll have the answer to the 3g working outside the US.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=658567
As for flashing the ROM, don't be worried, a lot of the ROMs out there will work on the US HD2. The phone has been a pretty hot seller here, so a lot of people will be working on the US version and more ROMs and mods will be released for sure.

Don't buy it. Phone pretty. Windows killing it

You need both Upload and download frequencies in the mobile matching your provider to get 3G.
2100 is the download freq, which is common to both Americas and EU, but US had 1900/850/1700 for upload and EU uses 900.
You have to make sure both the freq are supported by the phone. At the looks of it I'm pretty sure the TMOUS HD2 will not have 3G for you in Egypt.
Everything else you asked for can be done in both phones.

I found this site:
http://www.worldtimezone.com/gsm.html
Egypt 900 1800 3G 2100
HTC HD2
HSDPA 900 / 2100
HSDPA 850 / 2100 - American version
and it works great in Egypt
T-Mobile HD2
HSDPA 1700 / 2100
and I do not know the different and this will not work in Egypt ???
I can call My Network to ask them but I don't know what is the question ?

thank you all

THe question here is, although T Mo us use umts 850 and 2100 for their 3g, one up one down, i also seem to remember when reading up on umts/hsdpa/blahblah that some networks use the same band for up and down. If that were so, is the hd2 capable of holding a two way connection on one band? ie 2100?
(I may be completely mistaken, of course )

That's exactly my thinking too. Europe and Asia use 2100 up and down for 3g data, and they use 900 for Edge and voice. The only question with the US HD2 is if the 2100 band supports up and down or only down. Some specs for the US HD2 show 1700/2100 and also 2100 by itself, which makes some of us believe it will handle Euro/Asia 3g. We won't know for sure till someone unlocks a unit and drops a 3g sim in Asia or Europe and reports back.
Let's keep our fingers crossed.

T-Mobile USA, FTW!!!
In my opinion, "de-branded" hardware is always superior, but for once... not in this case.

let your cousine buy you nexus one or htc desire wm6.5 is dead

I already bought one!
Hey Everyone
I'm from Egypt. I already bought a t-mobile htc hd2 (TM), after doing a hell of a survey about the differences between it and the international. They r different in size, slight taller in TM and ofcourse branded.
There r red and green keys(end and answer) instead of the white in the international.
Band differences, but i searched for the unlocked TM, ppl confirm 3g working for carrier networks outside the US(philippines, germany, sweden, UAE, brazil)!!! So i guess it will work in Egypt since the band is 2100, i hope it's for both ways up and downloads.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=658567
Bigger ROM (1)
16gb microSD included in the box
The TM is alot cheaper even if it's sold already unlocked, i got it worth 470 $ unlocked from ebay but will come to me through a friend.
I will try my vodafone sim and see how it works and will give feedback.
I hope the 3g works as i guessed!!

HTC HD2, Telstra and Australia! [RELEASE DATES!]

Hi guys,
I received word late yesterday from my contacts that Telstra will be supplying the HD2 exclusively for at least 2-3 months on the NextG network.
No word on pricing yet but I have got a loose release date! For us Aussies the wait isn't too great which is a bit of a surprise for me, I thought we'd wind up being last! So without further ado:
Just wanted to let you know we finally have an idea on the Touch HD2;
Touch HD 2 – Due for release mid - late January. Exclusive to Telstra for 2 - 3 months. Launching with Windows Mobile 6.5

My name is already down for one, I can't wait!
I guess anyone not on Telstra can just use an imported one... Blue Fly Mobile are selling them for $900 at the moment.
Do you know if the "official" Australian version will have anything special that a UK one, for example, doesn't have?

A NextG compatible version is what I am after so I am holding out for it.
Basically Telstra bloatware will be the only special thing on it haha. Which I'll remove with cooking my own ROM. And of course NextG compatibility.
Hopefully the main difference will be that it will have the 850 3G band, like the Touch HD did, which will make it useable on most of AT&T's 3G network in the US.

Yea, a sweet US 3G radio.
it seems a telstra rom already leaked (841 is telstra rom code)
ftp://rom:[email protected]/Leo_HD2/Official/Leo_1.49.841.1_21869_WWE_OS.NB.rar
btw, what does it mean that the phone is only exclusive for 2-3 months? So for those 2-3mos, you can only get it through telstra (no e-retailers)? Can you get it sim-free during this time or after that time?

it simply means that in Australia, the Australian mobile phone networks like Vodaphone, Telstra, Optus, T-mobile,etc will have to wait a few months before they can have the option of selling it on their networks.
you can still get the device anywhere else in the world unlocked and as long as the device has the right network frequencies for your SIM card then you'll be fine. there are slightly different HD2's made for the world markets, because not all countries use the same network frequencies (USA being the odd-man-out of the world)
i bought my HD2 from the UK (Handtech) delivered for Au $840. the frequencies are a match for my 3mobile SIM card and the device is "unlocked" so i don't have any bull**** about vendor locking and software bloat.
Telstra/AT&T
Please post here when it is available through on online retailer with the 850Mhz Band so that US buyers on AT&T can rejoice and spend some dough...
Thanks
Am I reading this correct that the HD2 will not work on NextG? Is there a fix for this?
tchoklat
I highly doubt a Telstra released 3G mobile wouldn't work on their NextG network, kinda defeats the point.

Because the HD2 runs on UMTS 900/2100MHz. You have to wait for HTC to release another model that's NextG compatible (runs 850/2100MHz UMTS) in early 2010.
damn, what do I do with my new phone then?

use it as a $800 coaster.
or sell it.
I'm using the HD2 imported from overseas 2 weeks ago through one of those dodgy Australian online retailers (electronicbazaar.com.au) and I'm happily using my nextG simcard without problems.
The phone was shipped from HK.
I have no problems browsing or coverage but technically I shouldn't be getting access to the network.
I guess the question remains as to whether I'm accessing the nextG network or not. The carrier name is "3G 3Telstra" on the dialer and I get the "H" symbol come up on the phone. That looks good enough for me.
This information, plus p3ngwin's use of the phone on 3Mobile suggests it's not accurate to say that we can't use an unbranded Leo in Australia...
@tchoklat - have you tried using the phone yet with your NextG SIM?
Yes it fails to log on and I only see the odd 'G' or 'E' come up suggesting sporadic connection to the 3G network, not NextG. I understand that the 'H' means HSPDA or NextG

In a way you have access to Telstra 3G but not NextG. Read this http://www.austech.info/137073-post16.html
Telstra 3G = UMTS 2100 which provides 60% population coverage
Telstra NextG = UMTS 850 which provides 99% population coverage
I have a NextG sim when I was using my TP2 (the sim is my Leo now) and on my Leo I only get the EDGE network and no NextG.
Just what I have found as we have no or limited Edge where I live so the phone is basically useless. I have listed it on Ebay for anyone interested.
Ebay item number 110471705953
thanks all.

I'll tell you what, I have the unlocked import of the HD2 in the USA on at&t and the edge data on this phone seems as good as my last 3g phone. I think the speed of the phone is making up for it. Now of coarse, WITH the 3G coverage is another story but the edge is acceptable to me on this device.

Aquiring US version of HD2 in UK?

I was looking at the best deal i could get on the HD2 when i heard about the US version, has there been any news on the 'upgraded' US version coming to anywhere else? Namely the UK? I dont want to sign up to a contract to then see the better version released
Or would an imported handset from the US work in the UK?
3g high speed data wouldn't work in the uk. and before you ask no, flashing a different rom or radio wouldn't fix that, the frequencies are built into the hardware.
for the sake of the extra rom in my opinion it isn't worth it and to be honest I suspect they'll be difficult to get as they will be tmobile usa locked.

I don't see why 3G data wouldn't work. The handset is listed as 1700 (AWS) / 2100.
If it only worked on the T-Mobile USA bands they would have just listed it as 1700 (AWS) [even though it still needs 2100 to work on T-Mobile USA].
Without 2100 the phone could only be used in a tiny handful of countries - well, not even a handful really, which would very much destroy some of the appeal of the phone.
If you really want one then Ebay will be your friend. However considering all the problems this phone has had I wouldn't buy one that I couldn't return or exchange, I really wouldn't.
Oh ok thanks guys, just a thought.
Think i'll plump for the Uk one then & see what happens
Thanks
I asked htc back then, even if thair response was obviously the "commercial" one, it was clear enough, "that version of hd2 has been customized especially for tmobile usa and will not be available elsewhere also because it won't work on other networks." or something along those lines.

anything i need to worry about before getting the HD2 from US

hello all
it costs around $900 here and it will cost half that unlocked from t-mobile on the 24th. is there anything i need to worry about before ordering it for a friend from the states and using it here (Saudi Arabia). we use 2100mhz+900mhz for our 3G band so it should work fine here
anything else i need to worry about before i order it?
i dont think it'll work on saudi 3g, Tmobile uses 1700/2100, not 900. you need both bands to work
are you sure about the two bands thing
i had a t-mobile HTC G1 and 3G worked fine
that's odd, because phones that only share the 2100 band do not work on Tmobile. Perhaps its different the other way around.
the 3g of the g1 (1700/2100) and the Nexus1 (900/1700/2100) both work on our STC/mobily network. i assume the US-HD2 will be the same but i could be wrong cant anybody else confirm. i cant possibly be the only here intrested taking advantage of the US super cheap price
Well, you are not alone but I don't think anybody can confirm one way or another with 100% accuracy. I for one will buy it and then try to use it in Europe (i.e. 2100 MHz UMTS). Like you I've noticed that G1 has exactly the same specs for the radio. It also makes sense that HTC and T-mobile would like to support international roaming. All being said, there is always a chance that things are different this time. I tried to contact both HTC and T-mobile and I received contradictory answers. The only way to be sure is to try it or wait for somebody to report real-world use cases
anyone managed to test this yet?

Please share your T-Mobile US HD2 Unlocking and International 3G network experience

Me and seemingly hundreds of other users are waiting to see if it is possible to unlock the March 24th-released T-Mobile US HD2 and also to see if it is possible to connect to 3/3.5G networks outside the US/Canada before we purchase. Please post any experiences you have of:-
1. Unlocking the T-Mobile US version of the HD2 to use on other carriers (say how you did it and which carrier you changed to).
2. Using the T-Mobile US HD2 on a 3/3.5G network outside of North America (say which country and carrier and download speeds).
3. Flashing the T-Mobile US HD2 to different ROMs/radios.
I have contacted a carrier in Taiwan (FarEasTone) and they said that it "should" work there on the 2100Mhz band if it is unlocked but I want solid proof before I lay down the cash.
I found this old link www gsm-forum.eu/smart-phones-pdas-palm-organizers/16571-htc-unlock-free.html that has software that might've unlocked older models of HTC phones. Might be worth a try or please share if you know of any other free software that does the same thing for the T-Mobile US HD2.
Please don't bother posting if you are just asking whether it works or not.

Unlocking the tmobile hd2 (1024Leo)
they are calling it the 1024Leo after the fact that it has 1 gig rom. You MUST use the spl 2 to unlock it and roms specifically made for tmo hd2.
Not sure if the euro band is there but you can check phone>> settings for bands supported. Tmos rom is not bad but not for me. Cant wait to redo it.
Here is a good link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=5983094#post5983094
For my knowledge, I already tried T-Mobile Touch 3G at Taiwan by Taiwan Mobile network and it is working right now. Touch 3G has same band support with TMobile US HD2. I will receive HD2 in couple days, I will try it and post the result. TMobile use 1700Mhz and 2100Mhz together for 3G but all Taiwan 3G network use 2100Mhz or 900Mhz only.

I have used my unlocked t-mobile hd2 in Latvia, Netherlands, and United Kingdom so far, and had 3G in all three countries.
I am currently using mine in the Philippines and is doing great I am getting fast speeds on Globe Telecom Network. Speed is quite good switching from 3g to H most of the time.

I was in Europe last month and got a 3G connection in France (mostly Bytel) and the UK (mostly T-Mobile). Speeds varied from about 400Kb to 1100Kb. I was using a locked phone with a T-Mobile USA SIM. I talked to a UK T-Mobile dealer and he said they were using the 2100Mhz band for 3G. Prepaid SIM cards were available everywhere. I didn't use cellular data that frequently (mostly sent pictures with WiFi) so I never bothered to get the phone unlocked.

does anyone know how to do this and have the appropriate numbers etc ???????
...you either buy an unlocking service somewhere online, or call T-Mobile customer care and request an unlock code if you are a current T-Mobile customer.
t-mobile US HD2 uses HDSPA 17/2100 bands for 3G so anywhere those bands are present, you should get 3G (unless the local carrier is blocking it for non in network phones)

Data works in England
My husband and I are in London with our unlocked TMOUS HD2 and LG Optimus T phones, and I can get 3G on Vodafone prepaid. All I had to do was dial 191 on my handset to get Vodafone customer service, and told them that I am visiting from the U.S. using an unlocked HTC HD2, and would like the APN settings for the data connection. The rep sent me a couple of text messages, one that said the set up text was also coming and what PIN to use to run the set up executable, and the other message contain the set up executable. It worked straight away, and the 3G service is pretty quick. I have looked at a YouTube video with no stutter, and launch web pages without delay. I am very pleased.
I unlocked my HTC HD2 to use it with AT&T at SuperUnlockCodes for a very cheap price and quickly.

1. 3G Network : HSDPA 1700 / 2100 HSDPA 900 / 2100
HSDPA 850 / 2100 - Australian Version
2. Dimensions : 122 x 67 x 11 mm 120.5 x 67 x 11 mm
3. Memory(Internal) : 576 MB RAM, 1 GB ROM 448 MB RAM, 512 MB ROM
4. WLAN : Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g, Wi-Fi router
1. i want to use this phone in India so does the point no. 1 concerns me ???
2. i don't care about this difference
3. this is the major thing what i want to know , tell me everything that what differences does 512MB ROM can make.
4. i think that's just a typo error and HTC HD2 also have Wi-Fi router, if i'm wrong please tell me what does it do.
+ one more thing i want to know is how loud is the speaker sound is(for ringtones) in comparison to HTC Touch Diamond(i already got this one).
i have heard that radio version of T-Mobile HD2 is something weird , so it doesn't support most of the ROM's and people can brick this easily(accidently).
Note : i want to check Android OS's , WM7 OS and ubuntu too , so keeping that in mind and suggest me that if T-Mobile with 576 MB RAM, 1 GB ROM is better or the other one .
Thanx for reading this
The only difference is ROM, 1GB in TMOUS and 512MB in international version.
Radio bricks? You can cause them only if you install wrong Windows Mobile ROM or very old radio. If you want to stick to Android and WP7, there's nothing you should worry about.
1 pretty sure most networks in India use the 2100 so should be fine. If you intend to do any travelling though, the regular will have a bit more roaming compatibility.
3 with the correct rom radio and spl combination the regular hd2 also has 576m ram, and besides, 448 is usually plenty. Check the Artemis winmo6.5 rom, it doesn't use the extra ram and doesn't suffer for it.
That just leaves the double internal rom. If/when magldr 2 gets released, you'll be able to have multiple OS's in nand, in which case the extra 512meg will be really useful, but for now, with android using a2sd to simulate internal memory on the SD its not a big difference.
The big difference as you noted (incorrect reasoning, but it does lead to a brick) is the radio.
Regular can use any radio, but must use a T-Mobile (tmous) radio if you want to unlock the extra ram or use android/wp7/magldr.
Radios are told apart by the code,,,
x.xx.50 are tmous,
x.xx.51 for regular, however since the later regular roms started shipping with 50 radios too, most people just set something like 2.15.50 and forget about it.
It boils down to "never flash a regular hd2 stock rom to a tmous, its radio will brick it.
most important thing is buying a good device & not really so important in terms of TMOUS or International.
1GB ROM is nice on the TMOUS but a good working device preferably new & not from eBay & the likes is the main thing of concern.
TMOUS 3G band issues is not a great concern & I have used mine in many countries on 3G with no issues yet.
Just go with the best & newest you can get hold of.
thanx for the fast replies guys

@Spaqin :::
so you mean if i install a false ROM of 6.5 only than there are chances of getting the device bricked but i try Android(ICSW) and WP7 its safe ??
****************************************************
@samsamuel :::
if 2100 works in India i'll be fine than(no plans for travelling in near future), BTW what exactly is magldr 2 ? and is that extra 512MB ROM makes any difference in interface speed of WP7 or Android(if we install them)
what if install a false radio and get bricked.....is that mean we will be stuck on a black screen for ever and no coming back to official ROM ??
what is a nand ?
i gurss you haven't check the 4th point of WLAN and what about loudness of speaker in comparison to touch diamond ?
****************************************************
@Mister B :::
thanx for the suggestion dear but i really don't want to buy a newest model, and why not to buy it from ebay ?
and i really don't have a plan to travel in near future , so no need to worry about the band issues
buy hd2 new if possible not a newest model.
ebay is full of defect devices, it is quite a risk.
I have tested hd2 tmous in many countries over last 2years & 1700/2100 3g bands have been no issue for me ...
@Mister B ::::
well as i live in INDIA and here i couldn't find a box pack model so gonna get it from ebay.com only coz amazon don't ship to india.........BTW planning to buy a brand new but used one's are also available here on Indian ebay.in
Question . : even the brand new phone have defects from ebay ?? is that a personal experience ?

magldr is a custom bootloader used to load wp7/android.
and is that extra 512MB ROM makes any difference in interface speed of WP7 or Android(if we install them)

it may help to have the whole rom on the same memory chip, but in general i doubt it. so long as the sd card is a decent one, and the rom you install is working right (not an alpha/beta) then you shouldn't see any difference.
what if install a false radio and get bricked.....is that mean we will be stuck on a black screen for ever and no coming back to official ROM ??

JTAG will fix it. (dont ask, look it up if you wanna know what it is)
what is a nand ?

the internal memory chip, the read only memory, , the internal storage chip, it is 'nand' flash memory, hence we call it 'nand' or 'the nand' as in ' im dual booting wp7 from the nand, gingerbread android from sd'
i gurss you haven't check the 4th point of WLAN

didnt bother reading that far, , , there are no differences in wifi.
and what about loudness of speaker in comparison to touch diamond ?

couldnt say. what i CAN say is its very dependant on what you are running, most winmo roms are fine, i think i remember hearing that wp7 was a bit loud, and i find android just a little quiet.

Q. does that mean i can't use this device in India ?
you can use this device in india
Q. can we flash Win 7 to nand ?
we can flash win7 only to nand. android is installed in SD
Q. what you suggest a T-Mobile HD2 or the HTC HD2 ?
its same. because NAND is just a ROM, where win 7 will be installed. As stated unless MGLDR 2 doesn't come out and you want to install both OS in NAND. it makes no difference.
Q. any site with internationl shipping(and what maximum price you suggest) ?
i bought from ebay. waiting for it to get delivered.
Q. what are the different-different models available for HD2, like HD2 T8585 , HD2 Leo 100 and some others.....are they any different ??
HD2 T8585 is HD2 Leo which is HTC HD2. Its mentioned here:

well, since you picked that post i shall assume you are using vodaphone, , , gsm will work because the hd2 (both types) are quad band, so that handles calls, gprs, and edge, and voda india puts out hsdpa at 900 and 2100, and both regular and tmous can handle 3g on 2100, while the regular can also handle hsdpa at 900, and you may find (i'll let you look it up, cos i couldsn't immediately see it) that in some countries more rural areas use 900 for 3g (beter range) while cities have 2100, (better building penetration) so it may be worth checking that you get 2100 in your area.

i supose the real clincher is if you need the 900MHz to get 3g.(honestly, i dont think i'd like a tmous, i like the white keys of the regular, and i get too smoked late at night when playing with roms to feel comfortable with a phone that has an instant brick switch built in, so it'd be a regular hd2 for me, , im already 6 months into my second)

t8585 - regular hd2
t9193 - telstra hd2, which is a regular hd2, but with different 3g frequencies, probably not what you're after.
leo 100 - htc code name for the t8585

problem is a lot of so called new is not 100% new.
if lucky they have a few & they are old stock but unused.
If unlucky it could be handset returned after a few days with odd faults or service centre repaired units used for warranty exchange.
Chinese are experts at repackaging & tagging so you can be clueless.
Check the sellers feedback carefully: http://www.feedbackselector.com/
contact a couple of people who purchased hd2 or other similar listed phones from this seller.
I have had a few personal chats with xda members (last one was from india too) with bad eBay Hd2 experiences but most have been used Hd2s but do remember it so easy to lie & sell the sh1te you can't via standard retail via eBay at good profit level so buyer must take care.
Hope you have good purchases, best of luck

@samsamuel :
thanx man you are a life saver, is there anything i can do for you ??
BTW last set of Questions ........ any possibilities of magldr 2 release in near future ??
and is the speaker sound loud enough for ringtones ??
what do you mean by "im already 6 months into my second" and "instant brick switch built in"(i guess the second phrase is for T-Mobile, bcoz of the radio bricking problem)
i also like the white keys of regular one(so i guess i'm going to order a regular one only, but lets wait for tanush's order when his is delivered, i'll ask him about the frequencies)
can you suggest me a good seller on ebay(who sells genuine item only not refurbished ones)
thanx again
@Mister B :
i'll remember that sir , thanx
@tanush : good luck brother, do let us know when you get it
@samsamuel :
