transformer stolen - Eee Pad Transformer General

probably the worst way to get your transformer stolen out of town....

ouch! sorry dude. hopefully insurance can cover it?

now that sucks but if you have good insurance maybe a tf prime?

You didn't just leave it sitting there on your passenger seat, did you?
Sorry to hear about it getting stolen.

Should have installed gotya from market. It's only about $2. It will take a picture and send you an email of the coordinates and picture of the whereabouts of your stolen device. Can even help the cops get the SoB.

i must have i know i had a pillow up there but the windows are extremely dark they must have seen it from the windshield, because my dr dre beats were in the floor and my sisters ipad and phone were in the back so idk, they only took the tf, i bet they dont even know what it is, im assuming they thought it was a laptop. but yeah

I'm assuming you're talking to me. From now on, put on all your devices a security app like gotya. I started putting it on all of mine after they stole my gps right out of my car.

dont wanna be mean, but the funny part is that it happened at a frys. LOL. security footage from the stores. im sure they got cameras outside.

Maybe if the people who stole it are dumb you can install the gotya app from market.android.com?

True that. they gotta have it connected to wifi... unless they wiped it. highly doubt it though.

There's an old saying....out of site, out of mind. Leaving a car full of electronics in plain site is just asking for it.

lol we talked to them and gave the security Guy our Info he said there wasn't a view from the cameras, he checked

Try the Plan-B app from Lookout. Worth a shot.

Those security apps are only good if the criminal is incredibly stupid. I mean not that I would steal something like that, but if I did, the first thing I would do is a factory reset. Unless they build the security into the firmware like that crap that you can activate in the BIOS of a computer so it can't be disabled, there really isn't a good way to catch a thief.
Hey, maybe I should patent that idea before Apple does?

Unless he has a lock on it, like I have the pattern unlock enabled (mostly because i take it to work though. i work in a network security company so leaving phones/tablets/laptops unlocked usually leads to a crude e-mail sent as you to everyone in the company haha).

The simple fix to BIOS passwords, CMOS reset jumper or the old battery trick. Nothing is secure once physically compromised. (Unless it is sealed tight in some Titanium that's capable of withstanding 10kg of TNT)
Moral of the story is: Don't leave valuables in the car and definitely don't leave it out for everyone to see. Heck a teen could've taken it due to iPad craze (thus the TF, oh the irony). I'm sure it was an impulse theft, a professional thief would take more time to throughly look through every cabinet of the car as they already went through the risk of breaking the window... That is just my opinion though.

Most theft when an automobile is involved (unless they are actually stealing the car) is a smash and grab. Especially if it was mid day, it's much quicker to grab what you see than to comb the car for everything they can find of value.

Assuming the OP didnt have a screen lock code and the thief connected the TF to wifi then yeah that would work.

Purposely brick a DX

Ok guys, weird question...my screen is totally scratched up, no idea how it happened, but I am really pissed off about it. Anyway, I have the best buy extra insurance (Black tie?). I want to brick my DX so they can give me a new one. ****ed up I know, but I am paying for it, so I might as well take advantage. How do i do, or what is the best way to make it irrecoverable?
If you bought the accidental plan, just drop in in a puddle. I told them i was gonna hack it when i bought it and they said no problem but if anything happens and I have to bring it in, I better make sure it doesnt power on at all.
Best solution, pop it in the microwave for a couple seconds. It will nit power on after that.

Hes turning in the phone, so they are able to repair it and give it to the next person that breaks their phone. This saves us cost, because the other alternative is him reporting it lost and just keeping it.
You could always do the OTA then sbf 2.1. done brick. and you dont have to break anything, and now best buy and asurion will lower our insurance costs! jk

Big Brother Lives In CA & Coming to A State Near You

First let me start off by saying I'm a noob, a virgo, and like taking long walks on the beach LOL. I have been lurking around for the past couple of months and have learned a lot from the great people that like to help and share information. This is indeed a great community of people. This is my first post so if it seems long winded I apologize. Now my reason for my thread title. I live in Phoenix AZ (I know it's a dry heat), I was watching the news tonight and they did a story on the search of cell phones by the police. It seems that in California if you get stopped for anything, traffic ticket, jay walking, ect. and your cell phone is within arms length of you, the officer can ask for your phone and can search through it no search warrant needed! Yes that means anything and everything that is on your phone is free game (I find that a little strange since last year a husband went to court over accessing his wife's email and reading it.) But as the story was told California Supreme court upheld the ruling which again states that any person who comes in contact with a law enforcement officer can have their cell phone "looked at". This means call history, web sites visited, your phone book, and any and all information that is stored on your device. The only catch is that the device has to be within arms reach of the person. I am not a criminal, never even had a traffic ticket, but the thought of someone going through my phone drives me crazy. I keep my phone locked with a passcode, so would that mean that I would have to unlock my device for them to snoop through it? Anyway I found this interesting and I thought that I would share it with anyone who cares. My question is, of all of the talent that is in this community, has there ever been an app made like a "kill all pill", something that with just the touch of a button your device would be reset to factory settings and/or scrub the sd card? Just a thought. Once again thank you for allowing me to gain more knowledge of my device and to share in the community. Keep up the great work!

I have news for you, I will never consider living in that state.
That is ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS and a step away from the government having video cameras in your house.

If I just had pr0n on my phone I wouldn't even care. But that never touches my phone. Nor my computer; felt the need to add that. I'm talking serious business. Not that 'phone tapping' couldn't be possible (yes, it can happen to us all) but anything to shut an effort down. I'd even smash my rooted device and give up a chance of rooted glory for all the bull**** that could come of it. I hate cops. I've had some horrible experiences with them in the past. I'm not a 'blah blah f*ck you' to the face anymore, but I don't play that ****. You can instantly tell when a cop is on the push, and usually it is because you are in a bad situation. But some trivial ****? Nah, I don't, and won't, play that.

I don't think it works like that, provided this was similar to the talk before ... your 'ish' gets plugged in and by some 'miracle super duper government cop pull' they jack any and everything off your phone.
I'd like some clarification though. I haven't seen a link, but this sounds pretty similar to the talk before.
I'd honestly laugh if this was a, "Gimme your phone son. Ok, how do I see your 'texties?'"

They have a device they can hook the phone up to which copies all of the data.
Yeah, that's what I'm saying this sounds like. 'That talk before.'
If you could honestly lock your phone and deny access, well, that's a massive failure on their part. That is what I was saying. It sounds like all that business mentioned a month or two ago.

I suppose you can wipe the phone but, as we all know, the only way to truly destroy data is acid.
Right. If I am remembering correctly it was mentioned as such before. That's what I was saying. I wouldn't be surprised if this was being considered in Illinois. I should make a point of turning my phone off / removing the card everytime we / I get pulled over. Swallow the card if it appears suspect and smash the phone. I'd totally get tasered over as much.*

Just another reason for me to hate living in Cali. I must have missed the report but I remember about a month or so ago some state in the north eastern part of the us displayed a new device just for cell phones that police were beginning to use. Basically it comes with universal plug or what ever and totally scans phone in a matter of seconds. All contents are then stored in said device for further review. files included absolutely everything! Pictures, videos, internet history/cache, emails, call history etc. Welcome to socialism! California is leading the way.

Just use titanium backup and dropbox. Then if being pulled over just boot to recovery and format all. Might still be able to recover the data though. We need a secure format option.

Police officers can ask for lots of things. You don't have to give it to them. If an officers asks if he can look in your trunk you can say no, if they ask to come into your house you can say no, if they ask you anything you can remain silent. So if you have something on your phone that you don't want the police to see, just say no when they ask if they can look at it.
I have seen police go to apartments where the neighbor reported that someone was smoking pot. They can smell the pot, but if no one answers the door, or the person who answers does not let them in they can't take any further action.

While I won't dispute Cali's socialist leanings, this is NOT evidence of it. Evidense of Fascism? Sure is! Socialism? No. There are big differences between communism and socialsim, and both can be facist...but so can democracy. Fascism is the real evil. Socialism and communism are only theoretical evils that tend to die off as time progresses (though either one work very well in small communities. Funny thing: almost any humane fiscal system can work, and work well, on a small scale...it is when one starts dealing with larger societies that the sh1t hits the fan). But this is all far more political than is allowed.

That's rough, man. Similar thing happened to me the other day. I set down my transformer on a counter three feet away for about a minute while I was ordering a coffee and when I went to grab it, it was gone. Also, my T4 tax form was in the sleeve. Anyhow, I panic, go home and drink a bit, started mentally spending my impending tax return on a new tf, but then about an hour later, I get a phone call from someone who starts quizzing me on my phonebook. After they are satisfied that I am me, they give me an address to meet them at and I ended up getting the transformer back. It was terribly stupid of me, I know... I'm just glad to have it back.

Yep, drunk drivers require punishment, but we need to make sure they connect the punishment to drunk driving.
I almost got my transformer stolen while on the bus. They tried grabbing my bag that had it inside. I had lookout already installed but that feeling of knowing that I could have lost my transformer really made me sad. I still have it though, cause when they grabbed it I still had it wrapped around me and they fell back and ran away.

Bent Note 4

Hey guys so apparently i own an iPhone 6 Plus. I had my note 4 in my back pocket for maybe an hour or so and when i was looking at it the next day, i noticed it had a slight bend in it starting at the volume rocker. Along with the phone bending, it also sent a hairline crack through the display which is really small but its still there. I tried to get a picture of it but its so fine it was rather hard. My question is do you think the samsung warranty will RMA it and also folks, keep those notes out of your back pocket.
Like i said the pictures dont really show the damage well but trust me it is there.
It was a dumb decision to put the device in your rear pocket. These phones are extremely rigid compared to an Iphone 6.
99% Samsung will laugh you off the phone.
1% They might "Hook you up"

@benjewman, do you have insurance on it?
no i am not a chick
no i do not really know why i put the phone in my back pocket, it is convenient with such a **** huge phone. yes i do have insurance but id rather not pay for my dumb mistakes.
i think the point your all missing is that the phone still bent when it isnt supposed to and smasung put out a video demonstarting that it shouldnt bend under butt pressure but it still did which is why i think they would take care of it.

I was actually going to post the same video. If they're going to advertise like that, they should stand behind their claims. I'm a guy and I put my phone in my back pocket. Why? Well, it would be awkward to walk with it in a front pocket, I don't always feel like carrying it around, and I don't want a belt holster. The only other option would be to carry a man-bag and I'd really rather not.
Edit: I should add that I always take it out of my pocket before sitting down. I just hold it or sit it close by if I'm sitting.

What i am the only loser that carries in the back pocket?
I manage an entire shop the reason I bought an note 4 so that I could have all my documentation with me and take quick notes where else would you put it? I'm only a hundred and sixty pound guy but I must have sat on it 200 times by now and never had a problem. If you say a clip on holster and give him grief then I just don't know what to tell all you geeks, old men and chair surfers. Holsters snag on everything flipping your phone out and when out of style with the Dukes of Hazard and there 4"folding knife. Your front pocket pinches something I would rather not have pinched unless its my wife andd your front shirt pocket looks worse than a pocket protector and also falls out.
Just use your insurance its not like it was a stupid mistake that's what you get it for.
So flame away lol.
But seriously just have it replaced
Send from STOCK NOTE 4

finally some one that agrees with me and hasnt called me a fat chick. i see it is they say their product can live up to a specific type of abuse and i proved it cant so they should therefor be liable for it. at least a little bit
Why would you be surprised that the phone will bend if you sit on it? I mean... isn't it obvious?
Whole thread is nonsense. Your a bone head plain and simple. Would never carry a $600 device in my back pocket.
Look at this. ...... Galaxy Note 4 Bend Test: http://youtu.be/SDIu-GcX5aM
If I were you, I'd call and tell them it should not have bent from what is normal use. You didn't drop it, and you didn't put it through anything any one of us wouldn't also. They should (should being the important word; who knows what they'll do) fix it, free of charge.
Good luck.
Edit: Wait a minute. Were you walking around, or did you sit on it? Because if you sat on it, you kind of deserved it.

I don't want to go off topic but that mentality is partially, if not mostly in place because of the older generations bad parenting. Simple as that. Children, teenagers behaviors are a big reflection of the level of parenting they had. I do agree with you but the reason for that mentality had to be made clear.
As for the OP, I'm willing to say you got a "bad" device. Just as anything can go wrong with any piece of technology or car. This definitely isn't a known issue so definitely an odd occurrence. But as others had said, I would never put a phone in a back pocket. Not only can you risk breaking it, but it can also fall out.
Please don't sit on your phone and then act surprised when you damage/destroy it. It is an electronic device. I am looking around my house at all my electronics and I am having a hard time finding one that I would sit on (Laptop, Astro A40 Headset, Monitor, Scanner, Printer, TV, PS4, TiVo, NEST Thermostat, Blender, George Forman Grill). I mean really?
Solution for not wanting to put your phone in one of your front pants pockets: STOP WEARING SKINNY JEANS!

Keeping the note 7 safety strategies...

Well, because the guy at the T-Mobile store screwed up and rang my original Note 7 as EIP "paid off" while trying to exchange it for a "safe" one, the Note 7 I eventually got in the mail was FREE to me. So I'm keeping it. My only concern is, what's the safest operation method? I've been told to disable Quick Charge, and put it in front of a fan or cooling source while charging. Anyone else keeping the phone? I welcome any suggestions on how to minimize any risk of it catching fire.
Why not just leave it in water when you're not using it?

I wouldn't take that you've got a "free" phone to the bank. They'll likely figure out the mistake and want to fix it. At your expense.

Interesting you mention that, they tried twice and I was able to reverse it twice it seems settled now. But I'm curious about any best way of operating this phone without fear of it exploding. Do you have any suggestions?

I'm operating mine the way I always did. No quick charge and nothing that will make it work hard.
This is how I'm leaving mine at night, so if it does catch fire it will burn the tape and fall in the water.

Man.... I get where you're coming from with the 'it's free and it's great so I want to keep it' thing but if anything were to ever happen not just to you but your property, someone else or their property, you would be fully liable since the gov has stepped in and said return these flamin' phablets.
That's another reason that I will comply.
Every party is doing what they can to limit their liability right now. You don't want to be the one left holding the flaming bag of $hit when something goes wrong.
JMHO and best advice.

Because there is not a single smartphone in the world that is "Water Proof" . But there are phones that are water resistant. People just assume that what they see is fact. Yes it can withstand water but not over a certain depth and only for 30 minutes at a time and even then your still damaging the phone.

You just quoted the threshold for the ingress rating that doesn't mean it can't surpass it.
I doubt at exactly 30 minutes it will cease to work.

I believe the phone is waterproofed pretty good everywhere except for couple spots, like microphone, where protective membrane is rather flimsy and could fail after a while. Also pure water won't do anything to the phone, even if it got inside, it's the impurities inside it, that do damage, like short circuit, erosion etc.

The amount of lithium in a cell phone lithium ion battery is so minute that pouring water on it is no issue.

What would you expect T-Mobile to do? They didn't take any of your money.
Wait until it officially becomes a recall. Samsung will have to deal with it then.
