Bent Note 4 - Verizon Galaxy Note 4 General

Hey guys so apparently i own an iPhone 6 Plus. I had my note 4 in my back pocket for maybe an hour or so and when i was looking at it the next day, i noticed it had a slight bend in it starting at the volume rocker. Along with the phone bending, it also sent a hairline crack through the display which is really small but its still there. I tried to get a picture of it but its so fine it was rather hard. My question is do you think the samsung warranty will RMA it and also folks, keep those notes out of your back pocket.
Like i said the pictures dont really show the damage well but trust me it is there.

It was a dumb decision to put the device in your rear pocket. These phones are extremely rigid compared to an Iphone 6.
99% Samsung will laugh you off the phone.
1% They might "Hook you up"

Wow.. Seriously.. Lol. . Why would you have your phone in your back pocket to start with?

Why man why?
On a serious NOTE, i dont think they will cover that in your warranty if you say that you put your phone in your back pocket..

True, but some of these guys are mostly chick these days. So thats probably why.

Maybe benjewman is actually a chick. That could explain it. I put (correction: used to put) my phones in my back pocket occasionally too. Can't really explain why.... just wanted to give a little support. Nobody likes getting kicked when their down.
@benjewman, do you have insurance on it?

no i am not a chick
no i do not really know why i put the phone in my back pocket, it is convenient with such a **** huge phone. yes i do have insurance but id rather not pay for my dumb mistakes.
i think the point your all missing is that the phone still bent when it isnt supposed to and smasung put out a video demonstarting that it shouldnt bend under butt pressure but it still did which is why i think they would take care of it.

I was actually going to post the same video. If they're going to advertise like that, they should stand behind their claims. I'm a guy and I put my phone in my back pocket. Why? Well, it would be awkward to walk with it in a front pocket, I don't always feel like carrying it around, and I don't want a belt holster. The only other option would be to carry a man-bag and I'd really rather not.
Edit: I should add that I always take it out of my pocket before sitting down. I just hold it or sit it close by if I'm sitting.

What i am the only loser that carries in the back pocket?
I manage an entire shop the reason I bought an note 4 so that I could have all my documentation with me and take quick notes where else would you put it? I'm only a hundred and sixty pound guy but I must have sat on it 200 times by now and never had a problem. If you say a clip on holster and give him grief then I just don't know what to tell all you geeks, old men and chair surfers. Holsters snag on everything flipping your phone out and when out of style with the Dukes of Hazard and there 4"folding knife. Your front pocket pinches something I would rather not have pinched unless its my wife andd your front shirt pocket looks worse than a pocket protector and also falls out.
Just use your insurance its not like it was a stupid mistake that's what you get it for.
So flame away lol.
But seriously just have it replaced

finally some one that agrees with me and hasnt called me a fat chick. i see it is they say their product can live up to a specific type of abuse and i proved it cant so they should therefor be liable for it. at least a little bit

Why would you be surprised that the phone will bend if you sit on it? I mean... isn't it obvious?

Whole thread is nonsense. Your a bone head plain and simple. Would never carry a $600 device in my back pocket.

Look at this. ...... Galaxy Note 4 Bend Test: http://youtu.be/SDIu-GcX5aM

If I were you, I'd call and tell them it should not have bent from what is normal use. You didn't drop it, and you didn't put it through anything any one of us wouldn't also. They should (should being the important word; who knows what they'll do) fix it, free of charge.
Good luck.
Edit: Wait a minute. Were you walking around, or did you sit on it? Because if you sat on it, you kind of deserved it.

I don't want to go off topic but that mentality is partially, if not mostly in place because of the older generations bad parenting. Simple as that. Children, teenagers behaviors are a big reflection of the level of parenting they had. I do agree with you but the reason for that mentality had to be made clear.
As for the OP, I'm willing to say you got a "bad" device. Just as anything can go wrong with any piece of technology or car. This definitely isn't a known issue so definitely an odd occurrence. But as others had said, I would never put a phone in a back pocket. Not only can you risk breaking it, but it can also fall out.

Please don't sit on your phone and then act surprised when you damage/destroy it. It is an electronic device. I am looking around my house at all my electronics and I am having a hard time finding one that I would sit on (Laptop, Astro A40 Headset, Monitor, Scanner, Printer, TV, PS4, TiVo, NEST Thermostat, Blender, George Forman Grill). I mean really?
Solution for not wanting to put your phone in one of your front pants pockets: STOP WEARING SKINNY JEANS!

Trackball Screwy

Yesterday afternoon the trackball on my N1 stopped working. it'll scroll everywhere but left. Nothing obviously wrong with it, just wont go. thought i'd give it a minute, push and play with it, see if something gives, but no dice. This morning I called HTC, no questions about bootloader which should not affect a hardware issue anyway. Having a replacement sent today.
Now I'll send this phone back, and they will assumably examine and test it. I would agree with any non-hardware issues being rejected due to unlocked bootloader, however if they contact me and say they will not cover the trackball because of this, I will bite the bullet and pay for the repair or replacement, and won't even be pissy about it. I'm just curious what HTC will do, being as this is obviously a hardware issue which unlocking cannot affect.
Seems 50/50 whether they will cover it or not really.
i had a h/w issue and an unlocked bootloader and they still charged me $55 for a replacement
good luck
As of yesterday my trackball has started being annoying, has trouble scrolling downwards, though is not completely broken. I am reluctant to do an exchange, because mine is a special import and has an unlocked bootloader.
Do you have the number for US HTC anyway?

no just curious because I myself am looking into buying this phone. I don't want to repeat someone else's mistakes (if there are any mistakes at all). Not related to this but i've heard plenty of times where someone has said "if I was a little more careful, this wouldn't have happend". I'm trying to find a bunch of those situations so I don't fall for them. Thats it..

i have that as well on cyanogen 506. honestly it should be fine.
if it sticks, clean the ball with a very miniscule amount of alcohol, it'll break the dirt down and youll be good to go. or just dont think about it everytime you touch it (i used to be that way and now im better off. ha)
oh and a friendly tip.
EVERYTIME you're done using the TB, WIPE IT ON YOUR SHIRT or something cloth. thats the best way to clean it. up and down on your shirt. side to side even too

Needless to say I think i've heard every problem you could possibly have with this phone happen. From the screen cracking from a 1 foot drop to the camera app not working, to this post. However, I'm going with the n1 anyway. I'm sure that for every bad nexus one, theres 1,999 good ones. Anyway the only thing I need help with is finding a good case that will prevent damage because I have been known for dropping my phone alot.
My friends have told me to go with the "seidio innocase II" and others have said get a crystal silicone case. What do you recommend?

I've had it since release. I ordered it about 30 minutes after the google.com/phone site was up and running. I am always careful with my devices, and use cases and protectors. My phone has never been dropped or mishandled. By way of example, I also got my G1 on release day, and when i got my nexus I was able to sell it on Ebay for $250 with a review about the immaculate condition of the phone he had received. He said it looked like it just came out of the original box.
I hold babies with less precision and attention.
Easy fix
I had the same problem but mine wouldn't scroll down. After getting the run-around on the phone from HTC, I tried to fix it myself. It took less than 10 seconds.
Just grab the ball using your finger nails or something similar, and twist the ball a little bit. it'll loosen up built up dirt and oil on the sensors, and viola! You should be able to scroll again. If not, then you need a replacement.

You know, I would try this if the replacement hadn't been delivered to my doorstep like 5 minutes ago. Downside = I suppose I will need to run stock for a few weeks in case they refuse to accept the return because of the bootloader. Will make me appreciate devs all the more.
UPDATE: AAARRRGGGHHHHHHH!!!!! I AM RESTORING MY BEAUTIFUL PHONE TO STOCK STATE! OMFGPLSGODWHYISTHISHAPPENINGTOME! WILL BE RUNNING STOCK FOR A WEEK OR SO AFTER. HUGE CAN OF SUCK.
Update: okay, so this isn't that bad. Sigh.

Wow that screen is fragile...

Replace or Refund?
So exactly one week of owning my streak and the screen under the glass cracks. Not one drop, not one knock against something. Went to stand up from siting on a couch with it in my pocket and I hear a crack. Pull out my streak and there is a huge crack in the lcd under the gorilla glass. I wasn't wearing any skinny emo jeans either, just run run of the mill dickie shorts.
So, what do you guys think? Should I take my chances with the replacement that dell offered? Or take the refund before the 30 days are up and go with something else?
Why do our opinions matter, can you not decide for yourself?
take replacement
take phone out of pocket when sitting down (like i do every time)
treat phone like a newborn baby
wrap phone in microfiber cloth when on a flat service
enjoy a scratch free, crack free device
Well it depends if you liked the phone or not, it doesn't seem a widespread issue in terms of it being the hardware and may have been a one off.
I could most definitely see potential screen crack if it was sitting in your pocket.
Of coarse try and get a replacement, you have nothing to lose!

Maybe you mis-understood the purpose of the forum... Are we not suppose to give our "opinions" to questions that are asked???? So if your comment is not helpful then why post it???
Anyway, to answer the question, I did an exchange with my streak and I had my replacement phone the next day without any problems or attitude from dell... So you have to deside if you want to keep the streak or go with something else...Good Luck!

No I think I understand the purpose of the forum, I think I also know the difference between a genuine question and a "look at me!" post. However, you're right I should stick to my own policy of "if you can't be helpful, be silent". I'll do my best to ignore the "I only dropped it from like 6ft onto concrete, sat on it, played football with it" type posts in future

Caught a thief red handed...

Excuse my typing below but its 4:15AM...I've been drinking..
So I went out with a few "car forum" buddies out today. We decided to head to local bowling alley which honestly ****ing hate. So we're playing there and I decide to leave my phone at a chair in the area we're in. So I see an old ex co-worker, he's 2 buddies and some girl. I say what's up, etc. After they dip...within a minute I'm looking for my phone and I'm like ****...looking everywhere..nothing. I don't forget my phone ever so I know I left it on the chair next to my friend's keys, etc. So I tell my buddy to go outside with me cause I just had a feeling that one of these guys might've taken them.... So as I'm walking outside they look over and I call my ex co-worker over to ask him if he's seen my phone which looks like an iPhone (Samsung Vibrant Galaxy S..lol). And he's like nah man sorry. At the same time I notice one of his friends step over a few feet and get next to some beige looking Crown Vic and acts like he's looking at the tire...I paid no attention to that. And I'm thinking to myself..damn I left the phone on vibrate. But then I remembered I purchased an app called "Where's my droid" and set special "words" that if I text it it can switch off vibrate and turn the ringer to the highest volume and even turn on the GPS so I can track it. So I text it with my friend's phone. Within 30 seconds I hear the phone ringing....I'm looking and looking...and I see it at the Crown Vics rear passenger tire. Then one of them which wasn't the one starts to get all defensive...."That isn't my car"...."I drive that car there"....and at the same time Im telling him that I don't think the Vibrant grew legs and walked over by this tire. He's buddy was the one who stole it. My ex coworker and his girl were in shock that their 2 friends just did that ****. Before even a fight could break out in the parking lot my buddy calm me down.

I've never tried Where's My Droid..I have Lookout but I also have another app called SMS Commander that does the same thing and a lot more. You can silence it, set it to loud or vibrate too. You can send it a command to forward all the texts going to it to another phone. You can get the location of your phone. You can set it on Spy Mode and it will fwd SMS messages to whatever number you want, tell you phone #'s that call your phone and even send you GPS location of your phone when the call was answered or placed. You can even send it a command to send someone a text message and it will look like it came from your phone. This app works great. I've had it since my G1 days..I installed it on my Nexus, my MyTouch Slide and my Vibrant.

I, as well as many others I'm sure, have placed a phone in what we thought was a safe spot, and still had it fall, or someone else accidentally knocks it down. I have a 3 year old. I'd love to see you hand a phone to a small child and have them not drop it. Or have it slide out of a pocket. Thanks for playing.

Or people could take better care of their phones rather than deliberately putting them to the test to see if Gorilla Glass is all that good or dropping them from a height!, its a phone not a bullet-proof vest! Pointless thread! All these people seem to be having problems with their phones but mine has been absolutely tip top! I cannot fault it! But people nit pick about the stupid things!

People aren't nit picking, some people have legitimate claims. It's a phone and believe it or not, accidents do happen.
This is where we've reached, fan boys actually blaming the consumer now for accidentally dropping their phone's, instead of blaming the real culprit.

Who's the genius that would hand a 700$ phone to a 3 year old in the first place?
That would be no accident, it would mean the parent is missing more than a couple of braincells.

our little girl plays learning games on both mine and the lady's phone, along with grandma's tablet. All three of the devices have more than stood up to the task. She's only dropped the tablet once, neither phone yet. Also, not everything is out of reach to the little one. Sometimes I'll set it on the wide arm of the couch to charge while I sit there. If I get up, I'm not going to Unplug it just to get a drink in the next room. At $300+ and listed as a " solid, sturdy, durable etc" product, you expect it to withstand a drop or two. My Droid X has been knocked off counters and such by friends( where it SHOULD be safe), dropped by myself, I've gotten hung up in the charger cord once despite my best effort to keep it out of the way, pulling my phone with it. Hit bumps in a vehicle dumping it from the car holder, as it clicked into place, but didn't actually secure. I've had coolant and other automotive fluids spilled on me, or splash onto my phone etc. I was using the LED light to find small puddles in the basement once, dropped it into the water after tripping over something I didn't see, its worked its way out of my deep side pocket while I ran once, fell onto my foot and got kicked across the ground. I don't keep it there anymore but the pocket was 3" deeper than the phone, should have been secure. Point is, you can't predict everything around you, or control it. Accidents happen regardless unless you move like a turtle, even then it may still happen. So can we lose the stupid and stay on topic please?

Still, it is a 3 year old. Why don't you just get her a cheap tablet of her own to remove your expensive phones out of the equation?
Also, even though the rest was painfully hard to read, (wall of text) I still did and I agree that devices should be build more sturdily when they cost 300+$.
Accidents happen in life, but we can do things to avoid them and minimize the damage.

yes,I tend to rant. Other then that, we don't have the money to spend right now. I'm only upgrading because after flashing back to bone stock with no root, my Droid X is still not getting all its calls, which presents an issue when your trying to get a job lol.

+1.....close the pointless thread! £4 a month for phone insurance! You pay $6-700 for the galaxy s3 which is a highly sought after phone and people are giving it to toddlers, and just breaking it out of their own stupidity! I can't recall a time when I've ever dropped my phone, take better care of your phone or wipe the butter from your fingers!

Bunch of ****ing idiots. Are we all 12? Can't read? Can't stay on topic to save your lives? If you have nothing constructive to add to my thread, please keep your mouth shut. Thanks.
THIS THREAD IS NOT ABOUT INSURANCE OR WHAT TO DO IF YOU BREAK THE DEVICE. I SIMPLY WANTED TO KEEP TRACK OF THE BROKEN DEVICES. Since no one on this forum can seem to read, or comprehend a simple request I think I'll just move back to my other forums. Too many incompetent Retards here.

no it doesn't, it boils down to accidents happen. I was working on gathering insurance information from different companies to post along with parts links etc. There are already several threads about broken devices. Once again proving your a bunch of ****ing idiots. This will be the last thread I post here. Pretty pathetic considering its my first, and not one God damn person could post on topic.
Best part is, you guys keep bumping the thread to the top just to say its pointless. That makes perfect sense.

Well stop making pointless threads then! With people giving advice on how not to break your device.....simple, take better care of it and stop being stupid! What does other peoples broken devices have to do with you? Unless your saying that you personally broke them? This thread is pointless and a constant reminder to those whose devices have broken, a constant reminder of their misfortune! Of their bad luck if you wish!

OnePlus One's Trip to the Apple Store

So yesterday I had to go to the Apple Store to pick up warranty for my Macbook. While I was there I had to use my phone real quick to pull up a confirmation number. The Genius/Specialist helping me, took a look at my OPO and asked what phone it was. I told him all about it: the company, the phone's price, build, specs, and mission behind the phone. None of them believed me that the OPO cost as little as it does given the specs, and its unlocked I even pulled up the website on one of the display Macbooks. I kid you not atleast 3-4 other specialists and genius bar guys took a look at my phone and played with it, they felt the Sandstone back and were amazed by the build quality. They all wanted to know how they could buy a OPO and one of the specialists even said "I wish Apple would do something like this with the iPhone 6."
Apart from the invite system, supply, and some issues with the Yellow Banding. The OnePlus One is a definite game changer.
haha I wouldnt of let them touch my phone id just rub it in their faces
Sounds like OnePlus should hire you for their marketing department
Yep we don't all own iphones.

This.
Especially caseless as mine is right now.
After showing coworkers and managers my Nexus 5, and now my Oppo, along with their prices, the company I started working for which is 90% iPhones may be converting soon.
These phones are a absolute steal at the prices they sell them for.

So far I've got the two IT managers and my wife who want to switch to the OPO after seeing/handling mine. I figured this was gonna happen.
The phone's back is a feature in it's own self. Very unique and i've never felt anything like it before.
Next time. just rub it in their faces.
nice story thanks bra
That's how the guy at T-Mobile was. He had no idea what it was when I went in for a sim card. I let him check it out. Told him some specs and the price. He was kinda blown away by it.

Wouldn't that mean that their faces would touch it? That is kinda gross... Don't know if I would want all their Apple face juices on my phone...
Yeah, the IT manager in my division basically pulled a double take on my OPO and then his jaw dropped when I told him how much I paid for it (and how quickly I received it - we're in China, so opposite experience as OPO ex-China, and Xiaomi *in* China)

The big question is.... did he ask for a invite afterwards?
But honestly, I think OnePlus should be giving out more invites and maybe even have a referral kinda system going on involving rewards. Its not much effort to impress somebody with the phone either, its so unique just by looking at it.
I think that's cool that they showed interest openly like that. I would expect the typical reaction from a Genius to be a barely discernable roll of the eyes and refusing to touch it because it's not Apple branded. The OPO is a very nice looking phone, I'm not surprised that many Apple fans will be interested in it.

I was in a phones4you store(UK) yesterday and a couple of the guys in there were looking at my opo and to my amazement one of them rubbed it on his face which took me by surprise, I didn't know what to say to him.
They both thought that it was super smooth but one of them who has a note 3 thought that it was big but I didn't say anything as I was still shocked by him rubbing it on their face.
Plus one of them changed the profile on the phone when they were looking at it and after I got home it took me 30 minutes to figure out why I wasn't getting notifications for my emails.
