I've read about HD2 performance since it was released, but now it seems that it is getting even better, with full android support and soon WM7, but is it true?
I want to change my X1 and was nearly going to get a Desire because i seem to like android, but i found that HD2 might support WM7 in the near future, and i want to have it too.
but is having HD2 and running on it other OS (Like android) a good choice for everyday use or just for hackers who like to push the device to its limits?
I'd say its more for people who like to mod there phones. It takes a lot of work and research to get android running well.... and it will probably never run as well as you can get a native android phone running. If you just want to run android and want a phone that will easily work, get an android phone. If you want to use winmo and android, and have the time, patience, and willingness to hack and play around with your phone until it works the way you want, then the hd2 is perfect.

i don't know, i personally like my HD2 with android and ubuntu. aside from having to load a winmo rom so voice and sound would work correctly, the whole process following the FAQ was less than 1hr. i'm not saying there aren't risks, but i do like the reward.
I do little modding on devices I use (computers, routers, mobile phones), and with my X1 i did many experiments and used many ROMs just to get the functionality i want, and still i am not very satisfied with it.
Currently i am trying the X1 version of android, which is quite fast and stable, but there is no support for the camera, wifi is not always working, and it is a huge battery eater (not more than 2-3 hours). but i liked the interface, can be changed easily, many apps in the app store, that's why i wanted an android.

What do you mean by using a desire HD rom in a native mode? The hd2 will never be a native android device and you can't flash android phone roms directly to the hd2. It has very good android port... probably one of the best... but it will always be a port. If you don't want to put the time in to do research and mod it the way you want, then the hd2 may not be for you. Expect to come across problems that will take time to research and find workarounds for. There will be a lot of trial and error to get it to run even close to as well as a native android phone will work out of the box.

I personally like my HD2 very much ! It's a really high-end device which can be modded as you wish... and I think that the HD2 is even the most customizable phone ever created on market... So I really.. recommend you the HD2, if you will dislike Windows Mobile, this is not a problem at all.. I also dislike it xD... because I've realised that Android is the future... but .. after some Android use & gaming, I was really feeled like.. I wanted to return back to WM.. so I can easily do it.. or even change to another OS like Ubuntu and try it whenever I want.. but if you buy an Android Phone.. you will not have such a customizable OS feature at all .. you will stay locked only on Android... so .. that's why I really like the HD2... and btw.. very soon will appear a NAND Version of Android .. or smth. like this which will allow you to wipe your Windows Mobile from your HD2... and you'll stay only on Android if you like so... and if you'll want to return back to the WM.. just simple .. you will install an Official HD2 ROM.. and you'll have the WM back.. ... so .. it's up to you to decide which phone you take.. but I highly recommend you the HD2 !

by native i mean what Danny1911 said, and it seem there is some research on this this will be great, so, i am a step more to get hd2....
I ordered an HD2, will arrive tomorrow night.... LET THE FUN BEGIN !!!!

Be careful what you do with your hd2, if you really know what your doing you would always leave a windows mobile build as the resident rom, if windows wasn't to boot first, android would run but would be a service and driver nightmare and would need a bigger rom space on the hd2 to add many recovery sectors to not brick the hd2, the hd2 wasn't intended for resident android use, windows is still the master os at booting into things n shuttin down quick (bluescreen. lol) anyhow, android works great and fast enuff on my hd2 winmo 6.5.x custom rom (spl3) running android 2.2.1 dl desireZ v3.4finalz (webkit 3.1). I come from the dos and basic unix/bsd times, aah the times when DOS Shell with a booted mouse driver using a floppy was great to browse file systems quick n boot many things, cut copy paste ect, and bad because would forget vital entries then back to installing 9 o so floppies again, windows 3.1 saved us all for a long time as regards to media sound and streaming techniques. i went off topic, don't get a hd2 if you don't love windows mobile 2003se and above, if you really educate yourself with more knowledge of mobile devices and framework you would understand that windows mobile is very stable and responsive if you dnt load crap onto your phones memory and create trouble folders especially whilst using a corrupt windows pc os when transferring over to phone storage or mem card, not to mention not formatting the mem card the proper way!! good luck, the hd2 is still holding a little price, i say get it if you like winmobile, you may never be able to do a good custom flash on your hd2 and could brick it if your laptop cuts out half way through, i say use a pc when flashing hard-spl3, custom rom and radio to you hd2. research very good before doing anything with it ok. bless

Um not trying to be a butt hole here but have you not checked out the NAND Andriod ROMs? They seem to be running pretty good. I have talked to plenty of people that use a NAND Andriod ROM as their day to day OS on their HD2.

This is very good advice. Windows Mobile is not your average users OS. All of what you said above is great advice.
nand on hd2 is way better than on a mid level Android device.
This thread is from 4 months ago... no reason to revive it.
It seems as if the HD2 forum for the people who would use SD cards for their Android builds is dying, if not dead already due to NAND. I came from a previous Android phone, having to plug in my phone to get the builds and flash them to my phone. I like to see developers going back to the SD scene.
Me too. If it makes you feel any better I'm trying to convert some nand builds to SD but I'm having trouble and they wont boot.

The rush to NAND builds seems really stupid to me. With SD you have the best of both worlds. You can flip-flop between operating systems on the fly. I still use the WM6.5 but I like to play with Android, why should I have to give up either.
Come on developers, keep up the good work with SD builds. My ideal senario would be to have WM, Android & WP7 on the same phone at the same time and choose the one I want that moment...

sorry to break it to you but sd is not in demand anymore, nand has better battery life and overall performance plus clockwork recovery going for it but i think it will pick back up once mag can boot wm6.5 and android from sd without the extra things u have to do, most people aren't that tech savvy with android so they are waiting for an update from mag...

I was just curious about which OS is used the most, and which OS is used the least. Please submit your vote, so we can get an as accurate as possible picture. By Daily driver I mean which OS you're using right now to text, call and just use for your daily life.
A short list of the options and their definitions:
Stock Windows Mobile 6.5.x - You're using the stock rom that came with the device, or an official update.
Custom Windows Mobile 6.5.x - You've flashed a custom rom like Energy rom. Chances are you're changing the rom on a regular basis.
Android SD/RAM - You're running Android old school from your SD card, or you're using a RAM build.
Android NAND - You're using the latest and greatest NAND (Internal memory) build(s) out there!
Windows Phone 7 - You're loyal to Microsoft and decided to flash Redmond's latest and greatest.
Ubuntu - You decided a mobile OS just wasn't good enough, and you gave your HD2 a full desktop/netbook experience! Unlikely you're using this on a daily basis though
MeeGo - You're using MeeGo. I'm not sure if it's possible, as it hasn't been released yet, but it's worth a shot.
- If you're dualbooting, just choose the main one.
I'm curious what the results might be. I'm currently using Windows Phone 7 for texting, calling, some gaming and just for the general experience. I've also partitioned half of my SD card for Darkstone SuperRAM, just for Angry Birds and Scooter Hero. I think most people are using a Android NAND build by now though.
Android SD/RAM - Utterly smooth, I haven't changed builds for five weeks because I have no problems with this. First time my phone has been flawless in the 24 months I've had it (I'm including the Blackstone days! ).
I am very keen to go NAND. I'm just waiting until the ROMs have had a month under their belt so they are watertight. I would normally be flashing like mad, but I'm just too happy with my phone for now.
Not too interested in WP7. If it was as easy as switching memory cards, I'd probably give it a week's fair chance. But I think Android's got my heart!

PAST Windows Phone 7 - Was using it but after 2 days I decided to change back to Winmo becouse it had too much limitations to my country and I didn't want to use an other Windows Live profile, but it is a great development. STOCK Windows Mobile 6.5 - Back to stock, it is OK but not perfect. See my Windows Phone 7 story why Windows Mobile. Why the stock version? I want to keep my warranty and Android SD builds are good enough for me.
Android SD/RAM - You don't need NAND when you use RAM builds. It's very fast. Android is good and I like it, when i'm going to put Windows Phone 7 next time on my phone I definitely putting Android on SD as well on my phone. The best combination ever.

I used WP7 but am going back to Android right now... WP7 needs more work from Redmond before I might give it another chance.

Iv just been running the Core Series ever since i got my Leo.
Sergio76 from the Core Cell Team has been working hard on their first CoreDroid HD NAND version. All i can say is your all in for a big surprise!!

I used winmo stock for the first 3 weeks i had my Leo. Just while i got my head around the differences from my diamond. Then flashed an Energy 6.5.x build and not looked back (that was almost a year ago). I've used a couple of android SD builds and i came to the conclusion that it wasn't for me. It feels like an open source iphone for teenagers. Hell, i've used my sisters desire with the stock rom and the feel of the whole phone was lacking compared to my HD2.
This poll is a good idea there is just one problem with it. Android users are very vocal about their love of the operating system. Winmo users tend to be much less so. I think this has a lot to do with the user bases age range (ie alot older than most android users). I also think it has something to do with the original demographic Windows CE was aimed at - IT professionals. Winmo has grown from this and taken people like me with it. I find the integration and compatibility with the windows based networks i run to be the best feature of windows mobile and i'm yet to achieve that using android (and not for want of trying either).
I will try out WP7 but i'm waiting for the february update first. Copy/paste is a must for me.
using android nand atm. so far its awesome! battery life is great, runs really smooth and its pweety :3
i havent tested wp7 yet, although i really want to. Maybe when i have the time next week...
I'm still using nandroid at the moment although already bought a new sdcard to use for WP7. The reason I haven't moved to wp7 yet because I'm so questioning why there is no support from Cotulla, DFT and other Developers (they've disappeared since wp7 on hd2 issued) !!! Probably they're working hard for a better WP7 version, or they can't reach any more progress for WP7 on HD2, or some other reasons. Who knows???
BTW, my nandroid from RaiderX303 is really good now, so I'll wait to see what will happen to wp7 so that i can decide move to wp7 or not!

I tried WP7 on my HD2 but could not get past the Live Services verification step. I've given up for now but I absolutely loved the interface and the web browsing. It made me seriously think about getting an HD7 as my next phone until I realised nothing is as open and moddable as Android. I've switched back to Android 2.3 on NAND.
Edit: Finally SUCCESS!!! I got the verification. Going to try WP7 for a while. A seriosuly annoying thing is that some apps that are free on Android Market are charged on WP7 Marketplace.
Last 2 days, I've used WP7 inc. live services and Android on SD Duel Boot. The best thing about WP7 is the smoothness of the OS although the multitouch sucks compared to Android.
I'm most likely gonna go back to Nandroid and use SD to test other Android builds.
So basically a duel boot android/android.
WP7 for me, well at least for the last four days...here is why
GPS...Instant no waiting at all for a fix, using Endomondo for running, the route is spot on, best i have ever seen on any of my other phones, or even this HD2 running WM to Android.
SOUND...the sound quality, through headphones on WP7 is second none, why on eaarth its so much better than Android I really don't know and the ZUNE player and online stuff is simply fantastic
OFFICE...miles better than WM office, Android office apps just don't cut it
GAMES...try Harvest wow can't believe my HD2 is actually running this. loads more to try, also loving AlphaJAX bit like scrabble and wordsmith on Android only slicker.
INTERFACE...slick super fast, makes Android and WM on the HD2 seem antiquated
SOCIAL...the people update is simply perfect, facebook and twitter apps never look so good, loving the swiping about
KEYBOARD...never used such a easy to use keyboard, not sure why its so much better, I can type faster then on swipe, weird
Camera and Video... well this is hands down miles better than anything else for the HD2, did some filming at the weekend and the clarity is amazing
CALENDAR...quick easy and perfect for me to add and adjust my busy schedule
PHONE and SMS...sound quality and signal just work
Ok there are few teething problems but hopefully between XDA and Microsoft these will improve, ie...cut/paste, flash would be nice, but uses to much of my 3g allowance, Multitasking not that it needs it, it runs so fast, but perhaps being able to run my online radio with the brilliant rescoradio and do other things would be nice, otherwise you can have music running all the time and do other things, lets see what happens...
BTW you should cross MeeGo, 'cause it's not been released yet, not even a beta.

Lately I've been running MDJ Gingerbread CM7 flashed from recovery. I like being able to quickly create a clockworkmod backup, swap sd card, then flash WP7 or ubuntu just to mess around with. Afterward I can just flash back clockworkmod, stick my other sd card back in, restore and go right back to gingerbread.
Looking at the poll results thusfar, it seems that the HD2 has to be called an android phone xD
well, my hd2 runs on custom wm. have been jumping between energy and dutty rom. I must say both are equally good and rock stable. But i decided to stay with dutty because his comes with chinese input. tried andriod SD but it's eating battery as if it's free! so decided to stay with wm.

Actually, knowingly didn't add them as they don't support phone functions so they can't be used as a daily driver.
Guys using Stock Windows Mobile 6.5.x on device like HD2 don't deserve to be on XDA
so i have one of sergios cooked roms as my main rom. and i love it. zero bugs and zero issues with interface. i do like the android booting from the sd card. i dont think im quite ready to ditch wm altogether and go nand. so can i load wp7 from my sd card just as i do android? im hesitant to go nand wp7 due to the fact that it still has bugs and want a very solid very capable daily use rom like i currently get from core cell v3.
You can't run WP7 from SD, and I don't know if there's any plan to make it possible. You can have WP7 on NAND and Android running from SD, so you can reboot and switch between OSs, but that's currently the only option to do so.
Incidentally, if you're curious about WP7 then it really is worth trying. I know that there's quite a few issues that have been raised by various people, but the majority of people are having no problems (myself included when I tried it).

and how hard is it to go back to wm. because ive really been held on to by wm. ive really had a hard time getting used to android and that's why I haven't gone nand. is it worth it to go to wp7 and should I just bite the bullet
To flash WM back is easy. You just start the phone in bootloader mode and run the installer.

Im just bought a used hd2 and just doing some investigating on xda on what you can do on it. And i must say, you can do A LOT on it. I was thinking of using a sd android rom as it is the easiest way. But now it leaves me with a decision with what OS to boot on NAND. Windows Mobile is old but its still good, WP7 is new and i dunno, kind of stuck in between the two. Can anyone help with my dilemma? Thanks
Why not just try WP7? It isn't going to take more than 5 mins to have everything ready. Beware it will format your sd card, so put in another one.
wp7 is a great os... go for it
best thing would be to try out wp7 and experience it. it's definitely worth installing and trying out. like wm6.5 or android, wp7 has it's own ups and downs. really depends on your preferences but again once you've tried it only you can decide which os is best suited for you. cheers
As to me, i still love WM 6.5.5 and i am going to stick with it for a very long time! Sense UI is so ****in great! loooooooove it! Android is not my stile and WM 7 is weird... my opinion though maybe later on i'll try both of them!

Just like others, I would strongly encourage you to test all the roms available here
I once, used SD Android, then WP7, then NANDROID, then going back again to Dual Boot WM 6.5.x and SD Android. This is the best combination for what I need it from my HD2. But, it will be very subjective.
So, go flashing it and share your experiences with us

If you are mainly going to run Android, then why not run it Android NAND?
If you prefer the dual boot but still mainly use the Android on the SD, then does it really matter, as you switch on your HD2 then when WP or WM boot up you use the system to close and load Android.
Personally I still like WM, as it is open and completely customisable. I regularly switch between WM and Android (SD). Android for the apps and WM for the apps not on Android. If all the apps were available on all operating systems (WM/WP/Android) I would not move away from WM.
