they do work to some extent. samsung will probably decide the millions of sgs1 owners can just upgrade to a sgs2 or a sgn, and we'll be ignored unless we make our opinion known.

Making our opinions known will not change the fact that it will cost Samsung money, and possibly prevent them from making money off of us buying newer phones.
If you want it that bad, either cross your fingers or wait for an unofficial release.
Honestly really not much point in doing so. I'd be surprised if Samsung made ICS available to the i9000, but however no petition will make them listen. Developing ICS for the i9000 will cost them a lot of money they will not be willing to spend as the phone is outdated by the SGS 2.
All this threads about ICS while it's not released yet make me feel concerned about xda mods mental sanity for the months to come.
I would MUCH rather we got a petition together to get Samsung to release driver details and source code for the i9000 so that the Cyanogen team can fix the RIL and 720p recording issues

if they do, it will be much easier porting ICS(or anything else, really) to our lovely device, where can i sign?
start a petiton stating if samsung drops firmware support for their still best selled device you will move to a brand that can deliver such updates - as "Galaxy Nexus" branch or any other phone maker that will continue to support their devices not promote/force you to use their latest devices to get updated firmware

Well, I am starting to think that we can't find one that has Android in it... Look even Google doesn't support their Nexus One that is more than capable to handle ICS. In less than 2 years time they will drop support for Galaxy Nexus claiming it is too old again... It's simply a shame.
It hurts me to say this but I am starting to admit that Android has failed in its purpose of proving that it was different in terms of policies than Apple. It's the same s***....
nexus one never was a primary phone for google - it was nexuss, but still i am suprised that they droped 'nexus one'
at least google will not get distorted like samsung with all their devices to release buggy firmwares
google devices always her latest and well developed updates & support - samsung fails to do that
and on the top of that 2 years is normal contract lenght (and most of us got 'contract phones')
so best time to sign new 'pact with the devil' and get new google phone
if nothing will change from samsung on that i will surley not buy samsung phone (but samsung+google yes due to 'working updates/support)
to be honest i see even wave/bada getting more attention/love from samsung

Don't be so sure that Google will be better than Samsung in that department. I don't think Nexus S will get a new major Android update after ICS but let's see...
This idea that you have to buy another phone every 2 years is completely out of reality. I don't want to spend 400€ for a new phone every 2 years. It's completely unacceptable. And if this rumor that I9000 is not getting it becomes true, then I will try my best to discourage Android for anyone I know and is thinking in getting a new phone. I suggest everyone else that feels like this to do the same and try to stop these companies of doing those practices.
NexusS will be supported until the phone that will follow Galaxy Nexus, something simmilar that we witness now
i get my phone for free every 2 years =) thats why i do not see a problem in exchanging it in this time period :]
trust me, no ics for i9000 is not an option, i9000 is their best seller for the moment.
leaving all shose people wo latest firmware upgrade would not be logic.
they are aware how many people would be pissed at them due that fact.
they were ahead when releasing sgs/nexuss now competition is catching up very quick
i do notthink that they are ready to piss so many people
question is how long will it be supported with ics updates and i guess this will decrease untill sgs3 release after witch it will stop
you all need to take a chill pill. think of it this way: until samsung will release an update for the existing phones they will release an ICS device and after that they will try, hopefully, to update them and that could take some time and i don't think they will update a phone that will be so "old". it's logical... if they update the sgs and sgs2 to ICS why would you buy the next phone? if you were stuck on 2.1 or 2.2 on your sgs you would have taken into consideration to buy sgs2 but knowing that the differences between sgs and sgs2 are in terms of camera proc and size you are not willing to do this... damn that was a long message that no one will read

Your thinking is wrong. If Samsung doesn't update their 400€ phones that are 1 year and a half old (And don't even care to do proper QA), then why should you buy another one that will get no updates after that period, even when the hardware can handle it very well? And then you look at Apple that updates their old 3GS (that runs at least twice as fast as the Galaxy S stock)... What reason has Apple to update the 3GS when they just launched the 4S? This is how you gain customer loyalty!
If at least the phone worked well stock, then I wouldn't complain much. But take JVT firmware as an example. It has so many bugs and is so slow!!! How can they do it with this hardware??????????????????
i will not buy SGS2/3 if i will not see ICS on SGS1, i would not want to get stuck again with no updates because they want to sell me their next, new phone
also with ICS on SGS i am aware that it could be missing some features from Galaxy Nexus version, and that it will not be as fast as on newer devices
i do not think that i am the only one that when considering GT-I9000 purchase was looking at this info/fact also

@boliveira2 it's called consumption market... they want you to buy the newest ones otherwise they could just try to develop and optimize android os for all version (a little exaggeration i know) so you could run it on any phone... cyanogen released 7.1 for the Moto Cliq that didn't even get a 1.6 update here but they managed to do something about it... it's all marketing... why would they waste money and time and man power to update an old phone? i know it is disappointing, i am in the same boat as you... i'm not happy about this but this is it... i hope that i am wrong but... BTW is gingerbread official for all sgs's? i mean anyone can upgrade using kies?
us carrier variants seems to have froyo still same as some countries for gt-i9000 did not upgraded due to the bugs in gb (ex poland)
looks like samsung got overwhelmed by the variety of devices they support and obligations to google to update asap to latest firmware version (that "with Google" partnership) what resulted in overall mess ;]
I think in the end if you want the latest updates for a long time you have to buy the Google phones, period.
It's a shame but that's just the way it is. I think if many people turned their noses at the Samsung/HTC/Motorola-branded phones until they improve their updates they might actually get the picture. As it is most people rush out to get the latest, shiniest closed-driver carrier-specific device and then complain about updates later.
Perhaps this will change now that many Android users are more experienced and have learned their lesson, like so many of us here. If a huge chunk of us ignore devices other than Nexus they might get the point. One thing they may have to do if they really get serious about better updates is tell the carriers, especially the glacial ones here in North America, to screw off and stay out of it. Apple and Nexus phones get their frequent and timely updates mostly because the carriers are out of the loop.
What most have also forgotten is Google want ICS to stop fragmentation but what's happened is its made it worse.
Doing a petition to google to force samsung to roll out ICS
Samsung are clearly using this to sell devices as always
Then after that you have networks to sort as Vodafone in the UK have not released any updates to the Galaxy s past 2.3.3
Google phones get updates faster then from samsung and networks but the Galaxy Nexus is not that good i'll wait for the Motorola Nexus next time round
The rom is designed to work on the Nexus s and the specs are almost the same as the Galaxy s
Fragmentation Kills Android

This is based on the Galaxy tab announcement. Since Verizon is likely to carry the TAB and the Tab and fascinate are nearly clones.
"The Galaxy Tab will include Android 2.2, called Froyo, and will be upgradable to Android 3.0, called Gingerbread, Hong said."

Samsung just said today the TAB will get gingerbread.
Verizon is the carrier most rumoured to be carrying the TAB. All the spy shots have been of a CDMA version of the TAB. The TAB and the Fascinate are clones sans the front camera.

Probably because samsung isn't reliable when it comes to android upgrade promises.
cyanogenmod seems interested in Galaxy S phones, so there will be gingerbread for fascinate.
Just not from samsung, probably.
Let me clarify. I think it'll get it. Eventually. Just don't expect it anytime soon. It will HOPEFULLY see Froyo by the end of September, but Samsung isn't known for speedy updates (Verizon either), so we'll have to see.
Word is that Samsung is taking the Android line pretty seriously though, so there's still hope for them yet.

Do you always insult people who has different opinion from yours?
Samsung Behold II gets upto 1.6 and apparently can't even be upgraded to 2.X while HTC Dream/Magic are getting 2.2
Samsung i7500 gets upto 1.6 but samsung does not support upto 2.2, saying it's "impossible". unofficial upgrade to 2.2 available.
Samsung Moment gets 2.1 but not 2.2. Moto Droid, which has similar spec as Moment is capable of 2.2
Samsung Spica gets upto 2.1 but not to 2.2, unofficial update to 2.2 available.
I don't have information on Intercept.
Samsung does not have good track record of longterm support for its devices (usually one upgrade and one only, 1.5->1.6 or 2.0->2.1). It is safe to assume that SGS will most likely meet the same fate.

Actually, your comments are moot. Samsung said we will be getting 2.2 this month and um, we probably are? Sure companies are human and they make mistakes. Just take a look at apple and htc. But if you can't see the fact that this phone is Samsungs cashcow, and they are going to juiced the **** out of it, I won't be able to hold a knowledgeable conversation with you. Not sure what phone you have but if that's your only reason for not purchasing a sgs, too bad.

I thought this thread was about gingerbread, not froyo.
I think SGS will get froyo (most likely anyway).
I just can't think this is a mistake. Mistake is something one makes once(maybe twice) and by accident.
Having less than satisfactory long term support for almost all of the android devices made by samsung certainly isn't "mistake".
Samsung gets money by selling their phones, not by upgrading OS. Although if they keep up this weak long term support, they might lose future buyers.
Yeah, samsung already shipped 1+mil SGS devices, so this one might be different. It is still hard to ignore the company's history.
I'm still getting Fascinate, since it's the only decent smartphone that doesn't have encrypted down bootloader or weak battery life.
This is just my view on how things might turn out. I have my reasons for saying this and you have your reasons for saying that.
Calling someone else's opinion "the dumbest ****" just reveals how closed-minded you are and is the least likely way to have a "knowledgeable conversation" with others.

The Galaxy Tab is coming to the major carriers in the US.
Verizon will be getting one for sure.
There will be a press event on Sept 16 in NYC where Samsung will launch a new Android device. This will most likely be the Galaxy Tab, the US version. Its possible that the Tab might come in different colors depending on the carrier preference. The original is said to be black and white.

I don't have the reference handy, but I believe one of the more promenant blogs (bgr, engaget, etc.) mentioned that honeycomb will actually be 3.0 and more tablet oriented while gingerbread will be a 2.x update with a heavier focus on UI improvements than on under the hood functionality.

As far as Gingerbread goes... who knows? It's not even out yet so we'll see. Cynogenmod will most likely port it and if not, someone else will. Galaxy S's are too wonderful to be put to waste.
Even then, Froyo is good enough, honestly. Just give us some Froyo GOD DAMN.

The Galaxy S line is Samsung's first serious Android offering
Samsung is publicly and openly in competition with Motorola to overthrow HTC as the premier Android manufacturer
The media will eat them alive if they let the Galaxy S line flounder, and this will be counter to their publicly stated mission above.
Who the F**K cares because everyone who trolls here is going to ditch their phones around Spring of next year when the multi core phones start rolling out.

You make some good points, but although I think boodies was outta line, he's right, this ain't a moment, a behold or a Spica, this is the galaxy s. I think Samsung will be different about how they deal with this phone.
Just look at the GPS fixed in the leaked rom. There trying, I was all on board when this phone released, then got off track thinking Samsung has done it again and screwed us, then all the sudden bamn a leaked rom with much much improved GPS.
First i must say i do love my XOOM !
Having blamed Motorola for ages now i suddenly realised it may actaully be Googles fault that we Euro Xoom owners are not yet using 3.1 on our devices.
First i spotted a blog post about the Galaxy tab 10 inch over at TheUnwiredViewwhich clearly indicates Google are having issues with 3.1 releases and timing, and then after posting the story myself at TECHELD.com i received a Tweet from MOTOROLA indicating that it is indeed Google who have not yet released the European build !! Who to believe ??
How true this is isnt clear when you see Asus releasing 3.1 to Europe in contradiction to all of this but it does offer a glimmer of hope for the near future.
It also indicates that may be we should be less quick to jump at Motorola without first examining the possibilities that our beloved Android creators Google may be the source of our long wait for Honeycomb 3.1 ....

Very interesting post. However all the evidence points to Motorola being the problem.
Firstly they have broken promises regarding the SD Card activation. Is this Google's fault also? This is a classic case of a big US company ignoring its overseas customers and not even having the courtesy to release a statement as to why the delays have occurred.
I like many others in Europe liked my Xoom at first but will look elsewhere when purchasing again and will never consider Motorola as a viable option again. Motorola are a disgrace and I am a very very unhappy customer. If I could return my Xoom I would....
You may be right, but why is there virtually no information about this, coming from Motorola .... except some non-information about the release of 3.1 for Canadian Xooms? Whoever is responsible for this, it will be Motorola's reputation that's going to suffer ... and reputation translates to $$$ in terms of profit and shareholder value.
As so often happens, communication is lacking!
Gordon1M
Google or Motorola ?
Google or Motorola ?
Who should we blame ? - im not saying im 100 percent correct with my findings but i have to say Google are pretty slow in getting products working outside of the US,
eg- Google Voice - not working here in UK
eg- Google Music - not working here in UK
eg- Google Books - not working here in UK
eg- Google SMS - not working here in UK
im not having an all out anti Google Rant here but lets just consider that as the Xoom was the device Andy Rubin held in hand on stage and told us all was the genuine article , a proper Google Experience tablet with no fragmentation issues we should be aware that Google may be the ones holding the reigns ..
Im not a huge Motorola fan either and since they seem to think users installing apps on phones makes phones go faulty i dont exactly hang on every word their press team says - but we do need to keep an open mind.
Roll on 3.1 update !!!
Whoever's fault it turns out to be, the whole situation is a mess.
I think if Moto or Google just gave us some info, some communication on whats going on, then most people would cool down. Its the lack of any info / news that really gets people irate.
Samsung made the same mistake with the Froyo update for Galaxy S and everyone jumped down their throat....I think sammy learned a lesson from that, lets hope moto do to.

Thats the point!!!!
add to the list that Amazon AppStore is US only - that winds me up too
although i thought i read somewhere that google pushed out updates for US 3g/wifi version, and Moto were responsible for the rest...
This rumor looks highly credible and in my view, this is clearly Google being Google. They have traditionally let their vendors take the heat for delays/deficiencies in order to preserve Android's image. Vendors have been willing to do so as Google has an inbuilt way to enforce compliance, since the Vendors compete yearly to produce the next Nexus device, and Google has shown they are very willing to withhold cooperation from vendors that piss them off.
In this case, they have screwed the Xoom in Europe for the time being, but they have even dealt a lower blow to Samsung, who has been one of their biggest backers and the source of the number one Phone series in the world right now, the Galaxy S. The new Tabs now have to sit in storage all across Europe for two months....the inventory hits alone will be staggering. If this is how Google treats it's partners, I would hate to be a company they don't like. Then again, screwing over its partners does Google's supposed main rival, Apple, a big favor. Counter productive much?
So HAS Google blocked HC 3.1 in Europe for two months....if so, Why? It could be something due to EU regulations, or some kind of internal Google politics. Supposedly part of the reason that Google won;t release the HC Source is because they are embarrassed by certain flaws in it....but if they are really working on improving the 3.1 code, then why release it in the US in the first place (and then release more devices in the US that run it in a few days)?
All very strange, but one thing is clear if these rumors are true....everyone who has been saying they will never by a Moto product again due to the Euro upgrade delays owe Motorola an apology. Frustrating, sure...but not Motorola's fault.
Has the Asus Transformer 3.1 update rolled out in Europe yet? It was supposed to this week I think....but now I imagine it will mysterious not appear. So much for everyone howling about Asus punking Motorola on 3.1 and how they should have bought a Transformer.
Good thing this is a big boat we are all in.
asus 3.1
Over now to ASUS..
ASUS it seems have proven that 3.1 is available to uk manufactured or shiped devices but im uncertain as to this availability being due to the fact ASUS have a non 3g device for it to install on.
this could mean the issue holding 3.1 back for Xoom is simply a 3g-H problem, the US model is CDMA i think so this could be a clue, so good luck to ASUS pad owners who have no sim card to worry about..
PS non 3g Xooms ( wifi only ) can upgrade by flashing the US rom !!

If it IS canceled, will Google take the blame, or will Asus blame some technical snafu with the OTA...or just remain mute about it?

All very strange, but one thing is clear if these rumors are true....everyone who has been saying they will never by a Moto product again due to the Euro upgrade delays owe Motorola an apology. Frustrating, sure...but not Motorola's fault.

I don't believe as paid customers we own Motorola any apologies what so ever for the delay. Since Motorola have not give us any meaningful info on 3.1 update schedule outside the US.
We've paid our money to Motorola for both the hardware and software, they are responsible for repair and updates. If there are issuers with Google, it is Motorola's responsibility to sort it out and keep their customers informed.
Two months of more waiting for an update thats already out in the US is nothing but a joke. Especially we need the update to fix many bugs in 3.01. I'll not buy another Motorola product if I've to wait until August, and likely swap the Xoom for an ipad if there are significant improvements in IOS 5.
I got the felling that Honeycomb is just a stop gap in Google's road map for tablet OS until ice cream sandwich arrives. Isn't there a theory around that one of the reason Google did not make the Honeycomb codes public is they don't want people to see how bad the codes are hacked together.

First, remember part of why you have gotten no info from Motorola is that Google may not be ALLOWING any info to be issued. That is very very Google.
Second, yes I agree about ICS. I am quite sure that Honeycomb is a dead end that will not go beyond 3.1. After Google has changed their roadmap, and is now focusing on ICS as a single version for all devices. Personally, I have hopes we will see an official ICS update for the Xoom. If not, I am sure someone on XDA will hack together a ROM from the released sources.
And speaking of courses....yes, the prevailing wisdom is that the Honeycomb code is inherently flawed and patched together, lacking elegance. Therefore Google doesn't want it exposed. I personally believe that.
I am still waiting for Wednesday. If Thursday dawns and the Transformers are still running 3.0.1, I will take that as confirmation of the rumor that Honeycomb is being blocked in Europe by Google.
blame who
yeah..
going back to the comment about Moto's silence - this could well be Googles silence in fact... and Motorola despite manufacturing the Xoom probably dont have much control over the software entirely because this is a 'Google Experience' device.
it might be worth noting that when the update surfaces it will most likely hit the air waves via a Google server, Google=Control !
despite all this i must say that we all knew the Xoom was early to stores with half baked software and non functional sd card etc, i personally still love my Xoom and once a few more months pass by and more dev work is done ill be flashing a custom rom anyway! - gotta look at it from the long term point of view.
nearly 2 years ago i bought a HTC HD2 knowing that i would love Android to run on it, it took about 7 months before that goal was realized but the process of getting linux working on it was just about as much fun as i ever had with a device. - my point ? early adopters are always faced with bugs and trials to overcome, !!

Was this in the US or Europe...hard to work out location.
It is very easy for Motorola to blame someone else.
SD card slot not functioning? Blame Google ...
Still no LTE update? Blame Nvidia ...
No 3.1 for European? Blame Google ...
What next?
Where is their responsibility?
In the future, Motorola will release next version of Xoom, and say
"RAM will be increased in the coming months" ....
"Toaster functionality will be activated in the next software release" ...
And people will still flock to buy this kind of new dirty marketing tactics.
To my surprised, in the US, people usually file class action lawsuit. When will that happen? ....

For the SD card...blame being a Google Experience device. Asus has a working SD card on release due to a proprietary hack (likely similar to the one used in XDA to enable the functionality). As a Google Experience device, Motorola CANNOT hack the code before release...and the Samsung Tab 10.1? Doesn't even have the physical slot for one.
For the LTE Update....that is probably a mix of Moto screwing up the logistics of a hardware update to already released products (the idea was stupid to begin with, just sounds like a nightmare), and the carriers not having the networks ready to support it, thus delaying the whole thing. However I agree the lack of info is ALL Moto's fault on this score.
No 3.1 in Europe...This still seems like Google putting the brakes on this, no reason for Moto to do so that I can think of, at least not for the WiFi models. Asus may have gotten away with it due to the lack of Google Experience restraints. I will be VERY interested to see if the Samsung Tab 10.1 comes out in Europe soon.

Click to collapse
Taking the first 3 of these, there are very good reasons why these are not available in the UK.
Firstly - Google Voice: The US phone market works very differently to that in the UK (and the rest of Europe).
Firstly, in the US, there is no such thing as a mobile area code (think 07xxxx numbers in the UK), so your landline can often have the same area code as your mobile, and the cost for calling either is identical. In the UK, mobile numbers are handled via the 07xxxx dialing codes, and are charged differently from local and national calls.
In addition, if you call a mobile number both the caller and the call recipient effectively "pay" for the call. This might be real money, or it might be out of inclusive minutes, but the net effect it the same.
So, in the US, if you have a cell plan with say 1000 minutes, that 1000 minutes of calls both made and received within the US and there is no difference in cost between calling a mobile or a landline. In the UK, that 1000 minutes only relates calls you make - you can receive as many calls as you like without cost or reducing your inclusive minutes.
If Google were to launch Google Voice in the UK "as is", it would cost them a fortune every time someone use GV to call a mobile number.
There are pluses and minus to both systems, but personally, I'm not keen on the idea of having to "pay" to receive a phone call from a cold-calling double glazing company!
Next up - Google Music and Google Books: quite simply, Google has to come to a licensing agreement with the copyright holders in each individual territory. This has been done in the US, but not in the UK. It will likely come, but will need to wait until those licensing agreements are in place. This is no different to Google Navigation - in the US, Google "owns" all its map data and can therefore do with it as it wishes, but the UK they licensed maps from Teleatlas and had to come with an agreement with them for use with turn-by-turn navigation.
Although Google is a massive multinational, it's primary operations are in the US, and so it's natural for them to prioritise the US market.

Dave
I was just looking at Engadget, and I saw this: http://www.engadget.com/2011/12/17/bell-mobility-hints-at-ice-cream-sandwich-release-dates-for-gala/
Here is what the article it says:
"We've come across an internal document from Bell Mobility that's bound to raise the hopes of a few good Canadians. Yes folks, we're talking Ice Cream Sandwich. The carrier to the north estimates that it'll have Android 4.0 ready for the Sensation in February, which is to be followed by the Raider's update in March -- this handset may be more familiar to AT&T customers as the Vivid. Pulling up the rear, users of the Galaxy S II are to expect the upgrade in April, and while the Optimus LTE is also mentioned, there's no specific time frame for that one. Certainly estimated release dates don't always come to fruition, but at least we know what Bell's aiming for, anyway."

I think that is the date the Galaxy SII will get ICS on that carrier. Remember that a lot of carriers delay updates to their phones so they can be "certified". Also, if we already have a pretty much working build of ICS (give or take a few force closes and battery life), how can it take them so long to polish it?
At this stage i have to say im a bit pissed off that we still haven't been given ICS for our SGSII why cant they just release all the necessary code required so developers can do their thing.
Bell is very, very slow at releasing official firmware updates. As far as I know the SGSII still comes with their carrier branded 2.3.3
If they're releasing in April and that happens to be at the same time as ICS goes global, I'd be very, very, VERY surprised. Just a possibility.
I will be issed also if it isn't released by February by the latest, if it isn't i think ill be getting a nexus phone next year.

I think I am going to get the next nexus phone regardless of when we get ICS for the GS2.
to be honest i hope they dont rush it , it isnt just building ics for their hardware it needs intensive testing as well
the sgs2 has shipped over 10 million units now , releasing a firmware with bugs in it could do more harm then good and id rather wait and get a rock solid ics for our phones and for the devs to have a solid base to tweak from
lets face it they got the firmware the phone shipped with pretty dam good and i hope too see a nice stable ics release from them too
i use my phone to much to be using beta software and ive had enough nokias in my time and had enough of unstable buggy firmware and waiting for patches to come to fix the bugs
i think april sounds about right for a genuine samsung firmware that has been fully tested for stabillity and compatabillity with apps and extras
Does not sound like an xda developer member...just sayin'

This really means nothing for international GS2's. More than likely Samsung's ICS will release in late December/early January and those on XDA will have it looong before Bell in Canada.
Bell is an North America carrier which does not have any Apple vs. Samsung court cases.
Yet, rest of the world do. That's why I can certainly say that Ice Cream Sandwich for SGS II & Galaxy Tabs will be the fastest delivery of an Android distribution (from Google release to End users) Samsung ever made.
That date is for carrier branded phones.
For international phones it would be much sooner.
I'm expecting mid Jan

Now after release of the leak version, lots of stuff are working but unstable, but now no any news of CM9 for galaxy S2. It seems we have to depend on Samsung rather then cm9 team for ICS. Developers pls don't be hurt. Almost all devices are getting ICS except S2. It really feels bad that we are deprived of the same. Thanks

Its actually samsung's fault they haven't got it working yet. Samsung hasn't released kernel sources yet. I think the main obstacle right now for cm9 is the RIL is unstable. Codeworkx said once they can stabilize that they'd probably have a beta soon after. Kernel sources would give the cm9 team what they need to get RIL stable. So when we get that or a leak with stable RIL we should get cm9. I totally believe the cm team will get to the finish line long before Samsung. The other devices already getting alphas and betas of cm9 must just be easier to get working. I've read the galaxy sII is "unique" to code for because of the hardware.

There's still a lot of work to be done by Sammy.
They can't release something they don't have - makes sense, doesn't it?
As for the second part of your statement: They did. KP1, nuff said.
Definitely for that carrier.
KP1 is already released and all the major functions work. So another month max it will take to release the stable version.
And I didn't pay 600 US$ to Devs, but Samsung, so it's their responsibility to release it at time, hence I don't give a damn what Devs are doing.
Still I think Samsung should take a little bit of extra time, if it's needed, it's far better to release a Stable version than releasing a non stable one in a hurry. Also Google said that they would like the manufacturers to use 4.0.3 as the base version, so I don't know if Samsung will give us 4.0.1 like KP1 or directly 4.0.3.
Google also wants 4.0.3 as the base version of Ice Cream Sandwich to be used by Android handset manufacturers.

Goes by and no sign of JB for the 8013. Sadness. I really thought it would be out this week. Anybody have any whispering about the wifi 8013 updates ?
Here are some things that are odd compared to Samsung's normal s/w roll outs:
1) The German ROM was for a carrier and not Samsung's own unlocked devices that are sold direct-to-consumer. Typically they roll-out their own devices first and carrier's generally prefer that so they and their customers aren't guinea pigs. So while a production ROM by its quality and features it could still be a leak. Are there any N8000 owners from Germany here that received the OTA directly rather than installing it via Odin like the majority of us? If so was your Note from mobilcom-debitel?
2) The German ROM is 3G. Historically Wi-Fi devices have received intermediate updates before 3G devices. For the OG G-Tab ICS update one region got a Wi-Fi update (UK) and another region got a 3G update (Italy). They were both released on the same day and were for Samsung's unlocked devices sold direct. The week after that other regions began receiving both updates.
3) There are no carrier specific apps or branding on the German ROM. And the lock screen short cuts were disabled but still packaged in the ROM as people that changed their CSC got them back. Both items are unusual.
4) Samsung released another 4.0.4 update for Argentina after the German JB ROM was outed. That doesn't make a lot of sense with JB so seemingly close to done. I've been using the German ROM since the day it became available and it's rock solid so it wouldn't seem as if there's a lot left for Samsung to do on it.
So it could all mean something or all mean nothing. But I've never seen Samsung treat a major update like this one by releasing a single carrier ROM then stopping.
I am not expecting JB until at least around Christmas (it could even be later)
I'm not even expecting a JB update.

I can only speculate on the oddity based on my personal experience, which I will relate by way of a story.
Back in the mid to late '90s I worked for U.S. Robotics. One day they called a meeting to introduce the features of the latest software being made available for the Courier modems, the only flashable modems we had at the time. The engineer that was talking, very frankly, explained that we were adding the stupidest feature ever to our modems and that it was going to cause a ton of support calls. He went on to explain that the reason they added the feature was that a saleman had promised it to big client and that the direct sale of 20,000 modems hinged on the feature being added. Considering we made well over $100 on a direct sale, that was over $2 million profit and about $12 million in total sales.
So it's entirely possible that Samsung was looking at a big order from someone in Germany that was contingent on JB being released on the Note 10.1. Money will make companies do a lot of strange things.
Just flash the 8000 JB and change the governor to onDemand. Then you have a flawless Jelly Bean Rom until the 8013/8010 firmware is released.
My husband has an Asus Transformer Infinity tablet and he got JB last weekend. I have a Galaxy Nexus phone and got JB in Sept. He has a GIII phone and has no JB. I would expect he will get his JB update for his phone before I get an update for my Note 10.1. But then again, we are on Verizon. Maybe neither of us will get the update. I really don't understand Samsung not giving US Note owners JB. I know about how awful Verizon is about updating the phones.
Well I can now guarantee that JB will be released very shortly for the 8013. How do I know this? Because I finally broke down and flashed the German version on mine :victory:

You don't have to. It only replaces the PDA (MD5) file which doesn't affect your apps, settings, and data if you use desktop Odin to update it. If you're on a 8010/8013 you will see some funkiness because the 3G ROM is looking for h/w that it can't find.
Looking at samsungs firmware update history at sammobile, the updates for all the other devices / regions comes around a month after the first update. So itll be december for us sadly :s

But somewhat tells me that the actual JB was not completely finished, not buggy but usability flaws:
Annotate pictures, ok you can draw on the back of a picture, fine but to view it you get in that (paint)-editor again
did that make sense ? or did I overview something? Would be nicer with an airview support.:fingers-crossed:
Also in S-note when pressing the button on the s-pen while hovering, nice that it changes the pre-selectable writing tools (pen, pencil, brush, eraser) and cycle only through them. Edit: (works now)
My language is set to German, but got some French/ English texts...
I did 3 screenshots but didn't find out how I've done it! I know about the sw-button and the s-pen+button+press, but I was just looking through menues. Strange...
But otherwise, I like it. SApp- and Play-store works, also I didn't lose any data on the InternalSD (did move Tita. & Nand. backup to the extSD and computer)

Yes. I haven't been keeping up with the WIP thread but I'd guess their trying to figure out how to disable the 3G features in the ROM so it doesn't do strange things. I have a N8000 so anything I've shared is from using the ROM on it; not a Wi-Fi Note. So if your fellow Wi-Fi brethren have flashed the 3G ROM and the only issue has been wireless-related flakiness you should be fine. I'd read up some more on their experiences and make sure it's something you're comfortable with. I like JB but I was perfectly content with 4.0.4 which was very solid.

This hasn't been the case for some time - for example, Ice Cream Sandwich came to unlocked Galaxy S2 last, after all the carrier-branded ones got it.
The rationale is that Samsung needs to tailor (test and fix bugs) each carrier branded device to that particular carrier's network, but the unlocked one needs to be tailored to *all* carrier networks and so needs to benefit from the sum of all the bug fixing/testing from all the other carriers. I don't necessarily agree, it's just what was said at the time.
I've never seen Samsung treat a major update like this one by releasing a single carrier ROM then stopping.

It could mean that they discovered bugs that needed to be fixed. They may be treating this german release a little like a public beta.
Here's another possible reason we're not hearing anything. The SGS3 JB roll-out doesn't appear to be going very well. This is from the SGS3 forum. If Samsung's rolling back SGS3 updates that's not a good thing for us as I'm sure the SGS3 is a higher-priority product based on sales alone and may be diverting attention from other devices. Purely speculation of course.

I just read that as, they are testing to see if it's capable of running it. Not that they're actually doing anything about it. I just want 5.1.1 and the lack of that is bloody annoying. Come on asus.

High expectations, high disappointment. Just like 5.1

Don't wanna be too optimistic and rude at the same time. But isn't testing it on those devices implies plan to implement. Otherwise why test if there is no clear plan of development? Again am not being too optimistic just looking at all possible angles.
Just my two cents.
I was trying to analyze the message ARP_ASUS said, if they are testing it on ZE551ML and ZE550ML. Then definitely there is a source code available and optimize already for x86 device.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but u can't test something on a x86 device if you don't have a Android M source code specifically for x86 right?
Asus is not even capable of giving us 5.1. Forget about 6.0.
Just my humble opinion.
Nothing to see on this line
Man, I sure do love Monday morning volatility and vitriol, don't you?
Short of an announcement on their official pages, I'd still take any confirmation of the Marshmallow update, even on the official forums from a mod as a response, with a bit of salt. That being said, this is quite interesting. It seems like it is a firm statement that the pre-Zenfone 2 devices will not be updated by ASUS to 6 (not extremely surprising but it's a good gauge for us as to potential expected device support longevity).
Indeed, testing implies development. There have been times in the past where a company has tested an update and, in the end, chosen not to finalize and push it out (Atrix 4g comes to mind, since the development builds were eventually leaked showing that work had been done trying to get it to work). With the relatively close system requirements changes between Lollipop and Marshmallow, that probably won't be a factor in it. I'm not sure how those x86 Intel sources factor into it, but with actual testing being done that builds up my optimism!

Yep and am pretty sure it's gonna be wild and filled with rants and complaints for the next few days in zentalk once the first gen or pre Zenfone 2 subgroup people read this and starts to sink in their heads. Lol
Not a clear road map as posted. But hey something is still better than being blind as to where zf2 is heading right??
nc and all but we don't even know if they will ever release it, just like that 5.1

Hey - I can't really comment on what that means. Testing sounds great which gives me hope we'll see Android M, but that message in and of itself doesn't sound official enough for me. Again, I'm trying to help by asking HQ a ton of questions and seeing what the plan is. These things take a ton of time because they need to go through a lot of people. All I can ask is for your patience and understanding.
I plan on following up with HQ about this.

Thanks, Keep us posted if something comes up.
I don't see why there is all this whinging about the Zenfone 2 on the forum.
It has got twice the ram and 4 times the storage of my previous phone (S4) for less than half the price of the S4.
Data and phone signals are as good or better than the S4 in my experience, and the phone is faster and smoother.
As to the ram leak, with 4gig who cares., and with 64gig internal and 64gig external I don't give a toss about the bloat.
Battery - with my usage the battery lasts 2 days, the same as my S4 now that it has lollipop.
Asus is putting out firmware updates regularly, they may not be 5.1.1 or 6.0, but if they improve the phone experience so what.
My only gripe with my phone so far is that I had to get it from Hong Kong, if Asus can sell it in France then they can get off their asses and sell it in the UK.
While I would fully expect Asus to provide an update to at least 5.1, or even 6.0, I believe in you get what you pay for. For a $300 phone, you get good bang for your buck, and I appreciate Asus having a rep stay active in the forum, Reddit, and ZenTalk.
There's nothing that says Asus has to provide this update, since it's not a Nexus device, and looking at models like Samsung LG, or Moto, it takes months to get their phones to what is or was the current iteration of Android.
I did however stick my faith in Asus for what I think is a good product, and this will be the determining factor as to if I ever purchase anything Asus again. I think a lot of people feel that way. We could have gone the Moto or even OPO route, but when went with Asus. It's up to them to keep us happy and coming back.

I saw it being sold on Amazon.co.uk, the ww version that was being shipped from Amazon UK, which is great if you have a problem and need to return it. Though I would suggest getting the US version if you are set on getting this phone, because it has more bands unlocked, which I will admit their bands are a huge plus on this phone. Keep in mind that the second sim only works on 2G voice/text and data is software blocked.
Hoping for fixing battery drain Android OS crap with 6.0

To think about it i dont have so much hope in asus
But can you like flash a dev 6.0 rom or something like that from dev for zen
To be fair, Asus is still better than the likes of Oppo - many of their phones are still stuck on KitKat.
