Nvidia tegra 2 GPU overclock - Galaxy Tab 10.1 General

After some search in this propose I have found that Motorola xoom developers sucedded to overclock the GPU by 33% whick means clock speed of (442.89 ) mhz instead of stock (333mhz ) and a big boost in speed , knowing that we have same processor like the motorola Xoom can any developer here do this GPU overclock ,or should I post this thread in development thread .

this is a question about development so you put it in the right spot.

Sweet!! Let's see if we can get this for our GT's!

It is about the GPU, not the processor!
And no..... imo it's not necessary...BUT the important thing is that you CAN do stuff like that on android (along with tons of other tweaks as you know already).. And it is fun!!! (although there is always the risc of bricking ) Android rocks!!!

i don't think so , the problem with 1080p videos is not hardware related , it is with the drivers support for tegra 2 , the tegra 2 hardware accelerates certain format of 1080 p videos , but doesn't support others so some 1080p plays smooth and others don't , anyway i will asko on the motorola xoom forum if the gpu overclock helped them with that .

yes you are right it is a little higher than the 720p resolution but this has nothing to do with 1080p video playback the original galaxy tab 7 has (1024 x 600 ) screen and can play any 1080 p video

The tablet screen may not play 1080p, but when using HDMI out to a TV or other monitor, it would be nice to be able to output 1080p then...

Definitely would be appreciated to see task work his voodoo and incorporate this in his roms. That guy is talented!!!

I guess it's almost impossible to play ALL 1080p videos with the gpu. But it may be possible to play it with a fast software player. Did anyone try the Android VLC?
edit: just tried a vlc alpha. works, but only a few secs and veeerryyy sloooww - but it's possible (maybe other SW player?)

Riegos kernell actually doesent bring much of a gpu boost, so bump!

My both friends, Yoda and Google, told me about two links for the issue GPU overclocking:
one + two (the dev link for two)
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.tegrak.overclock.ultimate&hl=en

I didn't really see anything about overclocking the Galaxy Tab GPU. The first link provides stock comparisons, the second references the original galaxy tab, not the new one (if you look at the developer's site).

The hardware should allow us to watch 1080p movies but the software dosnt use the hole hardware. so we have to wait till the software is able to use the hole hardware. thats my opinion.
Edit says: RieGo stopt to implement GPU OC because it is to unstable. "dosnt work"

Chainfire3D on Optimus One

The Optimus One has the adreno 200 GPU which supports OpenGL ES 2.0 and meets the requirements for Chainfire3D. I have it running on my Optimus T with 2.2 and haven't noticed anything different when configuring the default settings. Nightmode works, but that's just about it.

Warning: This replaces (from my understanding of the thread) an existing driver with a new one. It requires root.
I would like to hear back experiences from others who have an Optimus one and tried Chainfire3D.
It also requires a 1 ghz+ cpu. Try running a tegra game to see if it works. Don't know if they will even start... HDPI res required.

Tegra Zone doesn't render properly in HVGA but the screen resolution is not entirely the problem. Installing a game from it crashes the device, probably because it was never made to work with ARM11 chipsets.
Maybe it is/will be useful for something we don't know yet.

Problem with Chainfire
I am using an Optimus one Myself and attempted installing this but not only did it fail to install I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling and now it won't even open upthe app to allow the attempt of the installation of the codec. (basically I attempt to launch it, it fails goes back to menu, this first happened when I was able to launch the program and attempt to install the codec) Now my best guess if I had any is It's incorrect ROM or something. I'm not entirely sure I'm still getting used to this phone. Already rooted it and broken once thus fixing/reflashing. So I've learned a few things. But if someone better then me and I'm sure there are lots of you here could just point me in the right direction I'd be very happy person indeed. Also, If I'm posting in the wrong section I apologize I really suck at this forum thing.
Another odd thing I noticed, I was only able to oc to 600mhz when I've heard I could oc it to 1000mghz. Is this something to do with my rom?

anyway, when someone could write a very small app that just toggles stagefright for the player on and off through widget, it would be the perfect solution (until there is a real fix available - which doesn't seem to be yet)

Whoaaa.... Chill out mate. No point trying to call people names., or accusing anyone of lying.
It's true that the Gingerbread-based ROMs (including Overcome RC1) doesn't have ext4 support so it'll make some file-intensive tasks to be slower than it is on the optimised, ext4-enabled Froyo-based firmwares.
Benchmarks, and especially synthetic benchmarks like Quadrant are slightly skewed in that area. As anyone with extensive experience with these tools will tell you, benchmark tools like these do not reflect real-world experience.
However, on non-I/O intensive based tasks, the back-end optimisations on GB does provide for a much more smoother experience. It's just not as properly optimised as the Froyo-based Overcome 1.x series yet...
... And yes, there will be someI apps that will be broken, whenever a new, major base like this is released.
Of course, the best scenario would be an overclocking/undervolting, ext4-supporting kernel for Gingerbread, of which AB86 is currently busy working on in his Batcave...
Trust me, as a person who has extensive experience with ALL Overcome ROMs and kernels, I prefer the current Gingerbread-based ROMs compared to the Froyo-based ones.
Anyway, my point is this... everybody's got their own preference and choice. Some prefer the Froyo-based ROMs/kernels over Gingerbread, just like some prefer Windows XP over Windows 7. No point trying to be fanboi-ish or militant about stuffing your choices down people's throats...
Relax and enjoy the fruits of AB86 labours...

420MB Huge RAM Kernel from China

*Disclaimer*
This is not my work and I am just posting it here in case some of you are interested. I take no responsibility for any problems on your phone. Don't expect any support from me.
**NOT TESTED BY MYSELF**
This kernel is for ICS, made in China.
Basically a 420MB RAM is the only difference from other kernel (although it's a big one).
Not working:
-Video recording
-HW decoding
-Camera FC when changing resolution (seems to be a problem on every ICS ROM)
Working:
Everything else
Original thread:
http://bbs.lidroid.com/forum.php?mod=viewthread&tid=102046
Downloads: http://code.google.com/p/all-roms/downloads/list
The original thread says that the developer tested it with CM9 and AOKP builds.
Have fun!!

OMFG this kernel is AWESOME!!
Working great here!
EDIT:
Gameloft games don't work couse they use a HW decoded Gameloft logo movie at the beginning so the phone restarts.
What about building a new kernel like this one but... In english ?
My assumption that this would be:
The ramdisk or whatever it called has been modified, i have heard this before with my Nexus S, its so called : BIGMEM...

Not a lot of people come here... Hope they notice it? lol
nice
tried on Dark knight.
work very well. but camcorder fc.
interesting
Isn't part of the RAM required by the gpu? Maybe that's why it has hardware decoding issues??
We normally get 340Mb Ram with bigmem kernel (break HD record), he disable the MFC in http://pastebin.com/f5ytsipx so the kernel reclaim 70Mb from video HW decoding, so the kernel got 420Mb, but it's not the way to do things, probally will never get into out mainline kernel
Uuh, if there only was a way to keep HW decoding AND get 420 mb! My SGS sure could use extra 70mb, 330 is just NOT ENOUGH for Android.
Wow, I would love to try it if it were a gingerbread (stock) kernel .
If people want to use multiple kernels, it probably only takes a minute to flash an alternate kernel and reboot your device. that way you get the best of both worlds (but admittedly it is not the best solution).
I just went and read about the thread since I can read chinese lol
The dev there said he based his kernel on this guy https://github.com/ngiordano/ics_3.1.10
and Funnnny was correct, he disabled the MFC so that android can reclaim the reserved ram from that unit, which is about 70MB. But this breaks hardware video decoding and camcorder.....
But he made a compensation in the recovery so that when you need camcorder you can reboot and flash standard kernel, when you don't need it, you can flash back to the huge ram kernel....
dunno if that's useful....
Oh but can't play any games. Giving fc. I'm very interested! If you can override videos in game, you can play. Lets find a way to fix it. Think think rhink

edit:well I downloaded the i9000 one. .it feels good to see 240 mb free ram on the info screen.
hope some developer further develops this idea.

Dedicated RAM isn't necessary of course, but the Exynos SoC have MFC module that expect to use the Ram at a specific address, so the kernel can't touch it (known as reservation).
We can't just take the reserved Ram and use it, because next time when the module need it, it'll only use the Ram at the address it knows, and bang, the phone rebooted like the kernel in OP.
This is not just bad design at software level, maybe bad hardware design too, but I'm not system expert so I can't say anything here, but Exynos is a cool SoC and we should live on with this.

I've tried:
Dead Space
Andry Birds
Reckless Getaway
Hot Springs Story
They does work.
SPY mouse restarts the phone. I guess, it has a video in it.
Anyway, this kernel is rather interesting. I do hope that devs would find a way to trick SGS to play HD videos in software mode to avoid reboots. This way we'll have 70mb extra ram and won't lose anything - even if those videos would lag - who cares?
Also tried this kernel on ics slim and it feels good to have such ammount of free ram.
I also run dead space and reckless racing without any problems.Im assuming gameloft games wont run because they have always a video introducing the game.I just wish someone could break the video aceleration even if we had to loose lets say 20 mb of ram.Still would be very usefull.Ive posted in the stratosk kernel thread about this to see if he is interested on modify this kernel and make it even better

IMHO this is perfectly fine if you don't care so much about the device, otherwise you would be crazy. OC'ng so high will eventually cause in-reversable damage. I know what your doing so no need for me to ask questions But even if its stable for you it wont be for others all depends on the chip and as we know each is different. Also even if people don't use 2.x ghz frequencies tend to jump to the highest for a mili second if even on boot, causing problems with the device actually booting.
Well just my 2 cents on OC'ing...

I believe that the Xplay has good chances of reach 2.0GHZ, running fine, provided has an good thermal solution. In my test, the games run fine for some minutes, before start overheat. Needed of somebody to build an custom cooler, then, make some tests. In my opinion, the safe clock, for sure, is not only 1.6GHZ. Only for default cooler.

Well after doing some research it looks like (Assuming you're rooted with custom ROM, cwm recovery, Google Apps enabled etc.) We can "safely" overclock the GPU.
I used Google translate and found the following Spanish user said, "Tegra overclock (no Tegrak): Default uya the gpu of 200mhz and can come to no problem climbing to 520 (more crashes) and force the 4 cores to stay on. It is quite noticeable in some ways, the vice city to the fullest without almost pulls, n64 emus greatly improved the framerate but less so in the benchmarks. The temperature in my case (I have it out of the box) is no problem. http://www44.zippyshare.com/v/71430637/file.html

ale! to tinker but I take responsibility if it burns! lol"

He was simply quoting a Spanish website regarding Tegra3 GPU clock - this has nothing to do with the O/C app. IF the app is optimized for Ouya, it won't be Spanish only of course.

FYI...I tried the latest version on my Ouya and got nothing. It doesn't even pull the CPU clock speed.

Did you run it on a rooted / custom rom / play enabled ouya? i'm on 519r2 (StockPlus). Would love to give it a go, but a little concerned about heat!

It is working fine for me on 519r2. If you don't mess with the CPU speed, which there is really no reason to, there shouldn't be any noticeable increase in heat. I just have the GPU set to 520 and the FPS locked at 60. It has definitely made games I considered previously unplayable, playable.

In my case, even with "Set at boot time" enabled, the settings are not sticking. I have to do it every time I power on the box - which becomes a bit tedious. Same goes for not being able to wake the Ouya from the controller.
I checked with No-frills CPU Control to see the CPU % use vs different governors and I found (same as on my N4) that "interactive" seems to be the better one.
