It seems that the majority of Nexus owners here aren't too impressed with the new Nexus S. The manufactor is samsung, the specs are tame, and the hardware is at the current market's standard; more or less. The only reasons I see for an upgrade is for having the status and guarantee of getting future update first, pure google experience, and a slight update to the Nexus One. Gingerbread is moot since we'll be getting it as our last priority update.
With that being said, what device will stray you away from the best android phone ever? Any dual core slut? A hardware beast like the EVO?
The only phone that's stopping me from purchasing a Nexus S is the LG Star with dual core. However, do we know if this phone will follow Samsung's strategy of releasing to multiple carriers? Will it be a pure google flavor? Updates will surely be slow but how will the development community be for this phone?
Honestly my only criteria comes down to which device will be supported by this community. Software is a moot point when you have great developers improving it in everyway possible. I would really like to know what device Cyanogen will fall in love with!
Fairly cheap (yeah right)
Dual core
5mp or higher camera
Sexy looks
Notification led (seriously, why are manufacturers leaving this off?)
Hard keyboard (preferably)
Camera flash
HDMI out
Trackball
Good battery life (I guess this can be worked on by devs)
Seperate audio out jack
Good screen (bright, scratch resistant, non smudge, etc.)
No pointless search button (it just annoys me)
At least 1gig of ram (at the VERY least!)
Decent internal storage
Can't think of anything else.
Yeah... I think ill be waiting a while

Non-Samsung stock android phone.
I for one prefer Samsung hardware... sure it may be more plasticy than HTC phones, but the hardware is superior. The Galaxy touchscreen is far more accurate and smoother at tracking, can also handle up to 5 simultaneous inputs (MT4G can only do 4 and choppier). You'll never have dust under the screen with their AMOLED screens since the glass is practically on top of the screen, unlike HTC devices. The camera unit is superior to all HTC 5mp sensors (just by looking at it, the aperture is larger). The external speaker on the Galaxy S line is also superior to the N1's, MT4G, G2, etc. - better bass reproduction and less tinny, also louder. The quality of audio through headphones... also better because of Samsung's sound chip. All in all, there's not many things from a hardware perspective that HTC does better. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Camera nexus one is better - more pixels not mpx but some more pixels, sound through headphones is dependent on equaliser and stuff so with CM6 and poweramp u get mind blowing sound, EVO and incredible can handle infinite touches, u can stick any glass to the screen. Thing thing is if glass breaks screen is gonna break 99% and if its not stuck to screen there are chances the display will remain good. It has both good and bad points. Every screen doesnt have dust under it, None of my HTC phones ever did, dont know about speaker but audio through did sound awful on galaxy s

this and decent build quality, like the nexus one.
one thing i'd really need is a better/louder speaker, the n1 one sucks soooo much.
I'm hoping the Motorola Olympus on ATT will be as good as the rumors - I'm on an ATT Nexus One since March, and have got the upgrade bug for a few reasons:
1. bigger screen - 3.7" is too small for me. 4.3" would be ideal, but I need a phone on ATT because I'm due for an upgrade and I can sell the N1 for about what I'd get a new phone on contract on ATT.
2. better touch screen, the N1 has occasional (although rare) issues with touch screen accuracy, not to mention no true multitouch. (not really a problem, other than in an occasional game or rotating in some apps)
The additional upgrades, such as the rumored 1GB of ram and the upgraded cpu/gpu, are all icing on the cake. Hopefully it'll be compatible with Netflix's requirement for additional DRM on Android phones, and that's gravy on top of the icing on the cake.
1GHz+ Dual core processor
3.7" display
1,024 MB RAM
850/1900 MHz 3G bands
Aluminum unibody design
At least 16 GB of storage (whether onboard, or available slot for expansion)
Better speakerphone
Dual Core!
1GB Ram
3.7" (no larger than 4")
SD Card Slot *cough*
Non-plastic
Stock Android
I guess it's pretty much the same thing as the Nexus One but Dual Core and higher Ram. I'm hoping next year's Google's "baby" will be back to HTC (please don't make it Samsung or Moto)
I know we're all excited about dual core but do you think Android will take advantage of it? Is the speed really going to be noticable?
I really just want dual core for the battery savings aspect and better gaming.

You're almost guaranteed dual core will make battery life worse, not better.
For a dual core to be any better, the computation efficiency needs to have a sharper gradient than that of the power efficiency. Or else, running a single core for X time might mean less power than running 2 cores for Y time.
Besides, the reason i hate my nexus one is the abysmal touch screen. It gets confused ALL the F'ing time.
* 1gb Ram
* min. 8 GB internal Memory
* outside microSD Card Slot
* Audio Jack
* phy. TRACKBALL with notification (frozen bubble anyone?)
* sexy design like my N1 <3
Like the N1 the use of a next Gen chip.
Comparable or superior camera/camcorder than iPhone.
SOME kind of colored notification system. Whether led or led trackball.
Min 4" screen preferably 4.3
HD display.
App storage...Touch screen...GPS/wifi/3g etc..batterylife.
None of those things should be an issue.
Give me at least 2-3 of the top portion...and all of Tue bottom I'd switch asap.
Hmmm
The Nexus One is near perfect.
If I had to upgrade I would consider the following:
Sexy Looks
1ghz Processor; probably Dual Core since that seems to be the direction we're heading
4" Max Properly working Super/Amoled Screen
Front Facing Camera for laughs
Enough Ram
Rootable Android
TrackBall or Smart Dpad
I LOVE the trackball on the Nexus. I have a BlackBerry Tour with an optical sensor and I hate it. While it DOES work, it lacks sensitivity and accuracy. Both gaming and office/texting/website entry all benefit from having a trackball. Selecting text on my Blackberry is a pain. Also using a full touch method blows chunks too, similar to the iApple and Android Web Browser method. It's hard to select JUST the text you want.
Other stuff should just work. Also a hot-swappable microSD card would be nice. Although I really never have to remove it using Android, the occasional pulling of pictures and stuff is faster to just pull the SD card = no phone.
Even though I don't currently use the Desktop or Car port, I think the idea of having such is great. I'm wanting a few Desk docks for my office and bed side but waiting on some good prices.
Honestly, I don't see any amount of hardware changes that would make me switch, that is until Honeycomb comes out. The Nexus, while having it's fair share of issues, is getting Gingerbread before even most new phones will get it and will run the new software just fine. So to me there's no point switching to any other phone except the Nexus S and that's only if you want the latest gadget/tech toy. I know alot of you guys drool over dual core but it's not like android is pushing 1st gen snapdragons to the limit yet. I'll let the software catch up to the current tech before I make a switch.
My dream phone? It'd have:
fastboot oem unlock
A trackball, or an optical one but with a rim that lights up (for notifications), a la E71
A processor speedy enough to carry day-to-day stuff, not necessarily dual-core
A LARGE /data partition (at least 1GB)
Working multi-touch
A keyboard (I got used to touchscreens for typing, but I still consistently type faster with my N900, even though I barely use it today)
At least triband HSPA/HSPA+ (900, 1700, 2100), like the Nexus One has, when I have to go to North America (I'm currently in Europe, and no, we don't only use 2100 MHz, we're slowly switching everything to 900 MHz)
Quality materials, like the N1 has
Basically, I want a Desire Z but easily unlockable by supported methods, and tri-band HSPA+. I know it's stupid to avoid the DZ because of the radio, but if I buy it in Europe with the right keyboard layout for my language (French AZERTY), I also want to be able to use it in NA.
For me, it would have to be the camera and hardware of the phone (style). I don't really give a toot about processor speeds.
One phone that really fits my criteria is the Nokia N8 but, unfortunately, the software on that phone is terrible. If it had Android on it, I'd buy it in a heartbeat.
I originally I started out with the Att 8525, then moved on to the HTC Fuze, which was a great phone but I had some issues with it, after years of hardwork and abuse, so I needed to get a new phone. I eneded up getting the HTC Aria but I wasnt happy with the Android OS, so I just bought a Samsung Focus.
Now AT&T is releasing the HTC HD7s in a few weeks, so im thinking should I return the focus and just wait for the HTC HD7s instead?
The only complaint I have about the focus is the bluetooth dips in and out when I use it in my car.
Just want some thoughts and input on this, Thanks
I had the Hd7 on tmob and have a focus now. I prefer the focus for its screen and size. Both run about the same other than that. I would go in and put the focus up next to the Inspire ( Inspires screen is a little better than the tmob hd7 imho) but will give you an idea of size difference. All the rest will be the same with the exception of nodo lol. Not sure if we will ever get it and the hd7s comes with it
I love my Focus, but the S-LCD on the HD7 should give comparible performance. However, I think AT&T should start carrying more models with a hardware keyboard as well. The LG Quantum isn't bad, but it's not for me. I'm waiting on something similar to the HD 7 Pro.
HD 7 Pro, S-LCD screen, HSPA+ or LTE = perfection (or close to it).
I have to agree. The only thing you pick HD7s over Focus is the better chance to get updates. S-LCD makes it better than T-Mo HD7 screen but still not up to par with S AMOLED. Otherwise, both phones are about equal with the exception of storage (8GB on Focus vs 16 GB on HD7s). Given the multitude of problems with SD cards on Focus, you should just forget the expandability of storage on Focus.

My bluetooth goes in and out as well. Is this a known Samsung problem, I thought it was my headset but $50 later and I still have the problem.
I bought the samsung and haven't been happy with it, can find a working MicroSD for it. The Gorilla Glass is very scratchable (what gives). And now stories of the phone catching on fire. Let alone Samsung single handed derailing the whole phone update process.
I don't think I would recommend Samsung, go with the HTC you will get alot more dev resources over there as well.
Super LCD screens are comparable to AMOLED screens. The Super AMOLED technology is still superior to the S-LCD. You get deeper blacks and a much better contrast ratio on the Super AMOLED, but then again, the colors aren't as much over saturated on the S-LCD screen.
Windows Phone 7 (and the Metro UI) was clearly designed with Super AMOLED tech in mind, so I'd still favor that.
With that said, I must admit that my Samsung Focus did die on me, and now I'm just stuck with a brick because there isn't any community development going on the Focus (hence no ROMs) like there is for the HTC devicse.
I really loved my Focus, but I think I've had enough with Samsung devices for a while and HTC seems to be the better choice now.
I and eagerly looking forward to see how good the screen looks on HD7s. While I was happy with WP7 even though I miss Swype and GoogleTalk (multi-tasking) I just couldn't hold on to Focus for more than 2-3 weeks mainly because of the missing LED notification. I am so used to it on my X10.
It's strange that Samsung doesn't have LED notification on most of their phones. Also, Focus was my first Samsung phone and I couldn't stand that UGLY huge SAMSUNG label on the front of the phone.
Well this bluetooth issue with my phone going in and out, is really annoying and its unbearable to have a conversation on.
I believe it to be an issue with the phone, as all the other phones I had paired with my car, worked flawlessly.
I made up my mind to return the phone and exchange it for the Htc Hd7s, if its available in the next 30 days, if not then I will purchase it when it becomes available.
I also agree with there not being alot of support for this phone. There are soo many users and developers for HTC.
Thanks for the help guys
The bluetooth issue is a known issue for the phone, not your BT headset, although I'm not sure if it is Samsung specific or WP7 in general.
BTW, according to the spec sheet I found from AT&T site, HD7s only supports 850 and 1900 3G bands while Focus supports additional 2100 Mhz 3G band. This means you will not get 3G in Europe and most other countries and no signal what so ever in Jappen using HD7S. This is a bummer but not supprising beause the last HTC phone I owned (HTC Pure) also lacks 2100 band.
I have a Focus and a T9193 HD2 running WP7. I far prefer using the HD2, and I will be selling the Focus and getting the HD7S.
The build quality of the Focus is atrocious. It's a cheap piece of plastic, and I'm afraid it's going to break every time I need to swap SIMs. The HD2 is a far better built phone. The screen brightness of the Focus is nice, but it is noticeably smaller.
I hope the HD7S is at least close to the HD2 in build quality. I'm actually tempted to get a HD7 from Telstra to avoid whatever shenanigans AT&T is going to do with updates for the HD7S.
I also have a lot more faith in HTC hackers than Samsung hackers for getting things on the phone.

Which WP7 is the best?
Hi guys, I want to ask for opinions which WP7 is the best. I was considering as the best the Focus model of Samsung mostly because of the S-AMOLED display, the MicroSD expansion slot, and the 1500mAh battery. But we dont have that phone in Europe, so if I want to get one I should buy it from USA. Here, in my country, on the market we have HTC Mozart, HTC HD7, and LG Optimus 7, so if someone can tell me which of these models is the "best" (I know that the word "best" is relative, but still ), or maybe it is worth to purchase Samsung Omnia 7 or Samsung Focus from abroad.
Tnx in advance .

The advantage of Focus is just a microSD slot. Given that it doesn work for majority of microSD cards out there, do you still think it is an advantage?
Otherwise, Omnia 7 is quite similar to Focus. They both share the same screen and fast NAND storage. Unfortunately also the same crappy Samsung firmware that gave Mircosoft so much trouble to push the updates out (Samsung almost single handedly stop all MS WP7 updates).
So, if you like the screen and speed of Samsung phones, just pick up a Omnia 7 with 16GB of storage. Getting a Focus from US has following issues as well:
1. It is locked to AT&T and only a few places have unlock code for it.
2. Even if you get it unlocked, you still need to manually switch/re-configure the internet connections and MMS is a big headache to change.
3. It only supports one band of 3G for Europe (2100MHz). If your carrier of choice is not using 2100Mhz for 3G, your phone will only be running at much slower EDGE speed.
Any idea about the battery life of...
Thank you very much foxbat121.Do you have any idea about the battery life of the Mozart and the HD7? I want to know how is the battery life of Mozart compared to HD7, whether the difference is big? If the difference is not so big, I will rather buy HD7 because of the larger screen (the camera is not so important to me ).

I had the T-Mobile HD7 and loved it....hardware-wise, I mean. The AT&T HD7 will be even better with the S-LCD. My Inspire has that S_LCD and it's gorgeous. But I now have a Focus and really am appreciated the style of it. I'm a bit concerned about the SD card and camera, but am hoping, when the NoDo update gets here, they will be resolved.
50/50 on which ever way to go. I don't see any harm in either decision. The Focus screen is plenty large enough to be just as usable as the HD7 screen.

Sorry I have no experience with those two. Currently, Samsung WP7 phones (Focus and Ominia 7) are top notch compared to HTC and LGs in following areas:
1. Speed. Samsung uses high speed NAND chip on the mother board for storage while others use cheap class 2 microSD cards (not user accessible without break the seal). As a result benchmarks consistently show two Samsung phones are faster than others when loading games and apps. Not sure what's the impact of NoDo on this.
2. AMOLED screen. Simply the best screen out there. The original HD7 comes with cheap low quality LCD and LG is similar. The new HD7s with SLCD is better but still not up to par with AMOLED screen, IMO.
3. Size, I've tried phones with different size screens. 4.3" is simply too big. 4" AMOLED screen is a perfect size balancing between screen size and portability.
The downside of Samsung is poor quality control and buggy firmware.

You have any idea what class sd card would equal the Sammy NAND speed?
I have not done any speed test on the Focus NAND storage because there is no easy to do so. However, if my Samsung Captivate's built-in 16GB NAND storage is any indication of Focus' speed, it is easily class 6 or better. I've reached 8 to 9 MBps real world file writing speed when using it as a USB mass storage on a PC, on par with most class 6 SD cards. My class 2 16GB Micro Center branded microSD card is around 3 to 4 MBps.

I never saw a class 6 Sandisk card in that compatible list. I might try one some time in the future but for now, the class 4 should be much better than the HD7's class 2 card. It should allow the Focus to run at least faster than the HD7.
If I were you, I won't use any microSD card in Focus for now. Those with NoDo updated didn't seem to improve this much. So, it remains to be seen that the microSD card issue can be fixed by a firmware update or not.
On my son's launch day Focus, my 16GB microSD card lasted about two months without problem. Then one day he reboots the phone and lost access to entire storage system. It's really a pain to re-configure your phone after two months of usage.
Just got a Focus a few days ago for my wife. It comes with newer firmware but I decided not to take the risk with microSD card again.
Anyone think I should sell my Note 1 for the new Nexus? I love the power of it but I am worried about going to a smaller screen. Storage isnt a big deal to me. Anyone made the switch and are happy with it? I love pure google, quad core, and 2gb ram with the low price.

Power of note 1? The note 2 doesn't even stack up to nexus 4. The screen is so much better imo.. The note has big icons that make the phone sorta look like a toy. The screen on this phone is amazing and the size is perfect.

I was referring to the Nexus 4. I don't plan to keep it stock so my Note 1 doesn't have big icons. How does the camera stack up to the note 1's camera? Nexus 4 has a higher pixel density but is the display actually better? And I thought the Adreno 320 was faster than the Mali 400
Im having the same debate. Here are my thoughts:
Im pretty happy with my note. However, for the following reasons, I am strongly considering a nexus 4, and infact have one preordered and scheduled to arrive in a week or two:
1. Most importantly: SLOW TO GET UPDATES, thanks to samsung and AT&T. I understand this is the process, and I expected it upfront, but it is irksome, none the less.
2. While I love the larger screen, I do find myself thinking quite often, damn i wish i had a phone i could use easily with one hand
3. Its pretty slow at times, which is a common complaint, and locks up here and there.
But my concerns with the nexus are the obvious ones:
1. No LTE - Yes, my note is fast, but I don't often stream things like Netflix, etc, so would I really care all that much? Plus, As I have come to understand, you can get it to support LTE...maybe. (keep i nmind I have AT&T which is one of the 'supported' bands...)
2. No removable battery - I dont really care about getting a larger battery though, but my concern is what happens when the battery starts to give out?
3. No external storage- I don't really use my SD card now, and 16 is more than enough, considering most of my data is on the cloud already. If i were a heavier user of 3rd party Mods / roms, and rooting features, I am sure this would be a deal breaker. Fortunately, I am not. For the record though, I am rooted
4. Made by LG:
I've heard the refresh rate is not great on the screen, and with jelly-beans purported "liquid butter" experience, it is fairly noticeable
I've heard about the issues with the shielding on the earpiece components.
SO my question is - what do fellow owners, or even other phablet owners think? Will i miss the larger screen for web browsing? The LTE? or will i be happier witha a more portable phone, that has all the latest android goodies? Opinions? thoughts?

The current widespread LTE band that AT&T uses is NOT the one in the Nexus 4.
If the battery starts to give out, buy a new battery and replace it. The back comes off easily with some time and a small screwdriver.

Ok so I've been rolling my N4 for just over 2 years now and although I love it I can't help feeling I'm getting left behind. I'll just say that its been the best phone I've ever owned. Everything works out of the box. Google maps and nav for example. Simple, free and every other phone I've launched in anger at the necessary to me but total garbage navigation apps they provided. Nothing the N4 does I dislike.
I thought I liked the 'development' side. I played a lot with my HTC hd2 and ran that on android until it died but since moving to the nexus I'm a vanilla convert. My life is too busy to go rooting. Some may say I'm a iPhone wannabe owner but thats another blood boiling story so we'll skip that. I just love the updates, the simplicity the support and how much nicer android is over the competition.
So I ask. If I want or need a new phone, where do i go?
As I said I love the google updates/support
Size is important. The N4 to me is almost the perfect size. I'm not a phablet fan at all. The N6 launch was hugely disappointing for that reason.
Not sure how I'd cope with bloatware and a different interface like touchwiz coming from a vanilla android handset.
I suppose the reasons for a possible upgrade is LTE. Its getting more widespread in the UK.
The N4 has started to show some gremlins. Nothing bad but makes me question how long the handset will last.
Camera is utter ****. I'm not too bothered by breathtaking quality. Its still only a phone and if I want a proper pic I'll use my SLR, but convinience rules and the n4 camera is slow, unreliable and makes me look a fool who misses that important moment.
& I suppose storage. I like some music. Have a lot of pictures. & apps take up a lot of space. I don't see myself needing expandable storage but 16gb absolute minimum is a must.
So where do I go from here. New nexus? When will that be along?
Nexus 5? Or is that too old as well?
Or are there any other good android experiences from other manufacturers?
Interested to see what others have upgraded to and how they found moving on.
Cheers
I have a nexus 4 . I am Walting the next nexus (7) . I hope in a 5 inch and a waterproof device. Becaus of. The last update (5.1) of its lire. good chiose friend
Same problem here. Tried a Fire phone, too may issues . Saw in several articles that they are going to made a 2015 version on the Nexus 5 . The Nexus 6 is too expensive

I still love my N4 but it's definitely time for an upgrade. I'm holding out for the nexus 5 2015 (assuming the rumors are correct obviously). I've been rooting and flashing roms on the N4 since I got it, at the moment I'm running the Chroma ROM with hellscore kernel and it's probably running better than when I first purchased it. Because of this I can easily wait for the next nexus release, there is no other device that would suit my needs to be honest.

Well, the Sony Xperia Z3 Compact has official Cyanogenmod 12.1, although it's still in "testing". Or you could leave it stock, but it wouldn't be vanilla Android. Sony doesn't go too crazy with their UIs though, and you can always use Nova or whatever launcher to give it the AOSP feel. The Z3C is a significantly smaller phone than the Nexus 4, but only sacrifices .1" in screen size. Plus you'll get like double the battery life or more. And front-facing speakers, 128gb expandable storage, waterproofness, etc.
Or you could wait for the Saygus V2. It's not out yet, but it's basically an Android enthusiast's wetdream. Think of every cool feature on all the different flagship phones, and cram them all into a single device, and you get the V2. 5" 1080p screen, front-facing speakers, IR blaster, wireless broadcasting, waterproof, removable battery, fingerprint scanner, 20mp OIS camera, TWO microSD slots, 64gb built-in, 3GB RAM, dual boot capability, rooted (or rootable) out of the box, and damn near every LTE band on the planet.
No, the Nexus 4 is NOT forever device. I'm back to using mine as I sold my M8 (needed the money) and it's SO slow compared to the newer phones out there. Plus the lack of 4G is a bummer

I sold my M8 too, but not because I needed the money, I much preferred my Nexus 4.

I've been using my Galaxy S4 for quite some time now. It's due to be replaced, and I've been following news about the Nexus 5X for a while, very much looking forward to it. And then the official specs came out... 2GB of RAM (same as my over two year old S4), max of 32GB of RAM.
The RAM I could probably live with in reality, but I'm not convinced of the 32GB. I added up the amount of storage I'm using now on my S4 combined internal and micro SD card, and plus the system ROM itself, that is going to add up very close to 32GB. I was really intending my next phone to be a 64GB.
I was hoping to keep something in the same size (closer to 5" than 6") instead of the "phablets". But this kind of threw a kink into those plans. Now I'm wondering if the 6P is actually the direction I go (or possibly a Moto X Pure). But I really don't want a phone that big, nor one that costs that much.
Am I missing something? Are there other smaller devices out there that have good/current generation specs? I was looking forward to the unlocked phone being carrier independent, that really puts a crimp in the options. Am trying to sort out my disappointment. I just feel, I don't know, like this is not at all the device I was hoping for.

Sounds like you need Sony Z5 compact. However I will say I love my Moto X pure and once you get used to the size it is not bad. I started out with the S4, then G2 and swore that 5.2 is my limit, then moved to 5.5 and swore that was my limit and now I'm at 5.7 and love it. It is a lot smaller than the 6P so I recommend it
The thing is the 2013 nexus 5 still feels as fast as any phone with google's android. Upping the processor but keeping the resolution means it will be even more capable. I mean it has 1080p but the same processor as the G4 which people feel is a great phone. It is going to run like a dream. I wouldn't be surprised if it outperforms WQHD phones running the 810. Just backup your photos/videos and delete them from the phone once in awhile.

Hey man, I feel your pain. I cancelled my order of the 5X after contemplating for a while. It has the specs of the HTC One M7 I had two years ago. It's just unacceptable. If you're someone who has music stored on your phone, has MANY pictures, this might not be the phone for you. If you stream your music, use google photos (online), then you probably be OK with 32GB. 16GB is just a no no.
Like I told someone else in another thread, make a nandroid backup, have a couple ROMS loaded into your phone, you'll already have your storage full on your 16GB phone lol...
I'm really just going to watch many videos and full reviews of the 5X when the time comes; if I hear great things about it I might consider. Like someone said, I agree with Nexus 5 (2013) phones working great and buttery smooth even til now, so why wouldn't the new one?

I'll take a look at the Z5, that wasn't on my radar. Thanks for the feedback. And yeah, a couple people at work here are telling me that it is just a matter of getting used to the larger phone, that once I do I won't care anymore. I'm skeptical lol...

Yeah, I've definitely heard how well the 2013 Nexus 5 kept up - and I guess that's what I was hoping for in the new phone, but it seems the specs are more oriented to "today", not "tomorrow". I think the processsor is fine, RAM I can live with, but that darn 32GB storage. Yikes.

This is the EXACT situation I find myself in on my Galaxy S4. Fortunately because of my SD card, that isn't an issue. Given that the Nexus doesn't offer that, it just seems like the 32GB will fill up very fast. I don't want to move to my new phone and then be fighting storage problems all over again in 6-12 months. Apps, etc are only getting larger and fancier as time goes on.

I'd be perfectly willing to pay for the $50 or whatever to step up from 32GB to 64GB, just like you would typically do. (Well, I still think $50 is overpriced for that, but I'd do it anyway!) But it isn't even an option on the 5X.

well i dont think its that simple. adding one more option adds to the cost of manufacturing and logistics etc which changes their bottom line and marketing tactic or whatever.
I'm more let down by the ram than storage space... 2gb... really? I know my note 4 doesn't have that much more, but my previous phone had 2gb, and I was running low on memory at times.
5X is physically WAY bigger than the LG G2 and there is no wireless charging. 16GB storage with no microSD slot shouldn't exist. This thing is definitely a dud.
I ordered the 32GB version and was annoyed to have to pay $50 extra for it. The 2GB of RAM is beat.
Y'all can't keep comparing an older phone with older processors and operating systems to a newer phone
"I ran out of ram on my 3 year old phone with 2gb of ram blah blah whine whine cry cry"
My newer v6 jeep is faster and more efficient in every way than my old v8 jeep. Same concept. Newer design. Newer technology. Different device.
Between marshmallow, sensor hub, 808 processor, and other newer aspects of the phone. 2gb is fine.
My Nexus 6 running M Preview hasn't used more than 1.4gb ram. And the hardware in the n6 is inferior to the n5x
BEFORE CONTINUING TO CRY ABOUT THE 2GB OF RAM.. PLEASE WAIT TO SEE REAL WORLD RESULTS AND REVIEWS

I'm mostly worried about the max of 32GB storage, not the 2GB of RAM (the RAM is just... annoying).

I've personally never ran out of space on a 32gb phone but I can definitely see this as an issue for some. For instance those who nandroid alot and those who store their music locally on their phone. An OTG would be a solution but a hassle to have to constantly plug in when you want to use it.
Personally I'd rather buy an OTG for those cases for super cheap than spend an extra $100 for a higher capacity phone
I was so hoping that Google would put a device that was true to the original nexus roots..I felt so let down by the N6
The specs of the N5X are mediocre at best.
16GB mem?
No wireless charging..c'mon..
Don't get me wrong - you're getting a fair bit for the money but I feel they've let the ball drop in a couple of key areas. Had they included those this phone would have smashed all the others..
6P is just way overpriced - huawei trying to get in at the top end of the market. It wont work.

An S810, 3GB of RAM, a top of the line camera, fingerprint sensor, and a full metal design for $499, you think that's overpriced? I'd have to disagree, as most if not all phones boasting the same specs are at least $150 more.
Now onto the 5x, yeah, max 32gb rom is a let down, but at the same time, you can work with it. If it doesn't work for you then this isn't the phone for you (why I ordered the 6p). The more important letdown was the 2gb of ram (the bigger reason for me getting the 6p).
There are plenty of people who cannot and will not fill up a 32gb phone, I see it everyday. Just gotta get the device that's right for you ?
I feel my Nexus 5 is still as fast as the best of them today... which just shows how much technology has plateaued. The 1080p display still wows me compared to other 2K phones, and the processor is still fast to me. I don't think I'm willing to give my storm trooper up just yet... maybe the S7 or Nexus 5X2 will have the 820, 1080p, 4 GB of RAM and an awesome camera for 2016 standards.
After having wireless charging for over 2 years, I've sworn to never buy a phone without it again.
It is a wireless phone!
The only time, and I mean the only time, I plug anything into my phone is when I'm flashing it.
Music? Bluetooth. (Or I use a FiiO)
Hands free? Bluetooth
Charging? The official nexus charger is on the side of my nightstand so I can see the phone if it goes off in the middle of the night, and the standard LG WCP-300 elsewhere.
Synchronizing data? Wifi. This happens automatically every night when I'm at home with the "syncme" app
I mean sheeet...I am quite aware the new usb-c is more rugged than micro-usb is, and less annoying since it plugs in every way...but once you charge your phone by just literally setting it down...you're so glad to never have to fish for that stupid cord again.
I even borrowed a router (the woodworking kind) and made a hole in my desk for the LG charger...it sits flush on my desk now and it's like it is never there.
Screw cords. It's 2015.
If a home cordless phone that I buy for $30 or even less can charge without fishing around for a stupid cable to plug in, than DAMMIT, my $400+ cell phone should be able to as well!
Why sit around and cry about the ram and storage? If it isn't for you, get something that is for you, end of story. 32GB of ram is much more than I'd need, I keep all my music downloaded on my tablet, and never play games or do any heavy duty tasks on my phone so the 5X would work just great for me. Everything is made to fit the needs of some people, not all people.
To the guys that say 2GB RAM is not enough. Are you all talking about for heavy multitasking, gaming or general use? Genuinely curious about the need for >2GB RAM on a phone.
