Samsung Focus vs HTC HD7s - Focus General

I originally I started out with the Att 8525, then moved on to the HTC Fuze, which was a great phone but I had some issues with it, after years of hardwork and abuse, so I needed to get a new phone. I eneded up getting the HTC Aria but I wasnt happy with the Android OS, so I just bought a Samsung Focus.
Now AT&T is releasing the HTC HD7s in a few weeks, so im thinking should I return the focus and just wait for the HTC HD7s instead?
The only complaint I have about the focus is the bluetooth dips in and out when I use it in my car.
Just want some thoughts and input on this, Thanks

I had the Hd7 on tmob and have a focus now. I prefer the focus for its screen and size. Both run about the same other than that. I would go in and put the focus up next to the Inspire ( Inspires screen is a little better than the tmob hd7 imho) but will give you an idea of size difference. All the rest will be the same with the exception of nodo lol. Not sure if we will ever get it and the hd7s comes with it

I love my Focus, but the S-LCD on the HD7 should give comparible performance. However, I think AT&T should start carrying more models with a hardware keyboard as well. The LG Quantum isn't bad, but it's not for me. I'm waiting on something similar to the HD 7 Pro.
HD 7 Pro, S-LCD screen, HSPA+ or LTE = perfection (or close to it).

I have to agree. The only thing you pick HD7s over Focus is the better chance to get updates. S-LCD makes it better than T-Mo HD7 screen but still not up to par with S AMOLED. Otherwise, both phones are about equal with the exception of storage (8GB on Focus vs 16 GB on HD7s). Given the multitude of problems with SD cards on Focus, you should just forget the expandability of storage on Focus.

My bluetooth goes in and out as well. Is this a known Samsung problem, I thought it was my headset but $50 later and I still have the problem.
I bought the samsung and haven't been happy with it, can find a working MicroSD for it. The Gorilla Glass is very scratchable (what gives). And now stories of the phone catching on fire. Let alone Samsung single handed derailing the whole phone update process.
I don't think I would recommend Samsung, go with the HTC you will get alot more dev resources over there as well.

Super LCD screens are comparable to AMOLED screens. The Super AMOLED technology is still superior to the S-LCD. You get deeper blacks and a much better contrast ratio on the Super AMOLED, but then again, the colors aren't as much over saturated on the S-LCD screen.
Windows Phone 7 (and the Metro UI) was clearly designed with Super AMOLED tech in mind, so I'd still favor that.
With that said, I must admit that my Samsung Focus did die on me, and now I'm just stuck with a brick because there isn't any community development going on the Focus (hence no ROMs) like there is for the HTC devicse.
I really loved my Focus, but I think I've had enough with Samsung devices for a while and HTC seems to be the better choice now.

I and eagerly looking forward to see how good the screen looks on HD7s. While I was happy with WP7 even though I miss Swype and GoogleTalk (multi-tasking) I just couldn't hold on to Focus for more than 2-3 weeks mainly because of the missing LED notification. I am so used to it on my X10.
It's strange that Samsung doesn't have LED notification on most of their phones. Also, Focus was my first Samsung phone and I couldn't stand that UGLY huge SAMSUNG label on the front of the phone.

Well this bluetooth issue with my phone going in and out, is really annoying and its unbearable to have a conversation on.
I believe it to be an issue with the phone, as all the other phones I had paired with my car, worked flawlessly.
I made up my mind to return the phone and exchange it for the Htc Hd7s, if its available in the next 30 days, if not then I will purchase it when it becomes available.
I also agree with there not being alot of support for this phone. There are soo many users and developers for HTC.
Thanks for the help guys

The bluetooth issue is a known issue for the phone, not your BT headset, although I'm not sure if it is Samsung specific or WP7 in general.
BTW, according to the spec sheet I found from AT&T site, HD7s only supports 850 and 1900 3G bands while Focus supports additional 2100 Mhz 3G band. This means you will not get 3G in Europe and most other countries and no signal what so ever in Jappen using HD7S. This is a bummer but not supprising beause the last HTC phone I owned (HTC Pure) also lacks 2100 band.

I have a Focus and a T9193 HD2 running WP7. I far prefer using the HD2, and I will be selling the Focus and getting the HD7S.
The build quality of the Focus is atrocious. It's a cheap piece of plastic, and I'm afraid it's going to break every time I need to swap SIMs. The HD2 is a far better built phone. The screen brightness of the Focus is nice, but it is noticeably smaller.
I hope the HD7S is at least close to the HD2 in build quality. I'm actually tempted to get a HD7 from Telstra to avoid whatever shenanigans AT&T is going to do with updates for the HD7S.
I also have a lot more faith in HTC hackers than Samsung hackers for getting things on the phone.

Which WP7 is the best?
Hi guys, I want to ask for opinions which WP7 is the best. I was considering as the best the Focus model of Samsung mostly because of the S-AMOLED display, the MicroSD expansion slot, and the 1500mAh battery. But we dont have that phone in Europe, so if I want to get one I should buy it from USA. Here, in my country, on the market we have HTC Mozart, HTC HD7, and LG Optimus 7, so if someone can tell me which of these models is the "best" (I know that the word "best" is relative, but still ), or maybe it is worth to purchase Samsung Omnia 7 or Samsung Focus from abroad.
Tnx in advance .

The advantage of Focus is just a microSD slot. Given that it doesn work for majority of microSD cards out there, do you still think it is an advantage?
Otherwise, Omnia 7 is quite similar to Focus. They both share the same screen and fast NAND storage. Unfortunately also the same crappy Samsung firmware that gave Mircosoft so much trouble to push the updates out (Samsung almost single handedly stop all MS WP7 updates).
So, if you like the screen and speed of Samsung phones, just pick up a Omnia 7 with 16GB of storage. Getting a Focus from US has following issues as well:
1. It is locked to AT&T and only a few places have unlock code for it.
2. Even if you get it unlocked, you still need to manually switch/re-configure the internet connections and MMS is a big headache to change.
3. It only supports one band of 3G for Europe (2100MHz). If your carrier of choice is not using 2100Mhz for 3G, your phone will only be running at much slower EDGE speed.

Thank you very much foxbat121.Do you have any idea about the battery life of the Mozart and the HD7? I want to know how is the battery life of Mozart compared to HD7, whether the difference is big? If the difference is not so big, I will rather buy HD7 because of the larger screen (the camera is not so important to me ).

I had the T-Mobile HD7 and loved it....hardware-wise, I mean. The AT&T HD7 will be even better with the S-LCD. My Inspire has that S_LCD and it's gorgeous. But I now have a Focus and really am appreciated the style of it. I'm a bit concerned about the SD card and camera, but am hoping, when the NoDo update gets here, they will be resolved.
50/50 on which ever way to go. I don't see any harm in either decision. The Focus screen is plenty large enough to be just as usable as the HD7 screen.

Sorry I have no experience with those two. Currently, Samsung WP7 phones (Focus and Ominia 7) are top notch compared to HTC and LGs in following areas:
1. Speed. Samsung uses high speed NAND chip on the mother board for storage while others use cheap class 2 microSD cards (not user accessible without break the seal). As a result benchmarks consistently show two Samsung phones are faster than others when loading games and apps. Not sure what's the impact of NoDo on this.
2. AMOLED screen. Simply the best screen out there. The original HD7 comes with cheap low quality LCD and LG is similar. The new HD7s with SLCD is better but still not up to par with AMOLED screen, IMO.
3. Size, I've tried phones with different size screens. 4.3" is simply too big. 4" AMOLED screen is a perfect size balancing between screen size and portability.
The downside of Samsung is poor quality control and buggy firmware.

You have any idea what class sd card would equal the Sammy NAND speed?

I have not done any speed test on the Focus NAND storage because there is no easy to do so. However, if my Samsung Captivate's built-in 16GB NAND storage is any indication of Focus' speed, it is easily class 6 or better. I've reached 8 to 9 MBps real world file writing speed when using it as a USB mass storage on a PC, on par with most class 6 SD cards. My class 2 16GB Micro Center branded microSD card is around 3 to 4 MBps.

I never saw a class 6 Sandisk card in that compatible list. I might try one some time in the future but for now, the class 4 should be much better than the HD7's class 2 card. It should allow the Focus to run at least faster than the HD7.

If I were you, I won't use any microSD card in Focus for now. Those with NoDo updated didn't seem to improve this much. So, it remains to be seen that the microSD card issue can be fixed by a firmware update or not.
On my son's launch day Focus, my 16GB microSD card lasted about two months without problem. Then one day he reboots the phone and lost access to entire storage system. It's really a pain to re-configure your phone after two months of usage.
Just got a Focus a few days ago for my wife. It comes with newer firmware but I decided not to take the risk with microSD card again.

So, why did you choose Samsung Galaxy over the other Android phones?

Hi fellow Samsung Galaxy S owners,
I'm at the verge of buying my first Android phone now. However, I still have a few things to confirm.
I've ruled out Evo completely as it does not work in most part of the world, despite the gorgeous screen size that I absolutely would love. I want something that is at least four inch in screen size, gives me good visibility under bright sunlight, comes with at least 16 GB internal memory, front camera, and something that runs Froyo 2.2 ( in other word, the vendor must already have that ready for upgrade now).
Is Samsung Galaxy S the one?
It has everything u wanted apart from the 2.2 update which is expected to be released in ~4 months.
Thanks leoon,
Do we have any official statement yet from Samsung guaranteeing that they will release an update in 4 month's time?
The next question is, in the event that they abandon the phone and refuse to issue any upgrade, is there already a good cooked Froyo that I can use now?
I understand that there is a great performance improvement moving from 2.1 to 2.2, so am really keen to get on 2.2 ASAP.
It is confirmed officialy about korean version 2.2 so we can be sure about others also.
SGS is much faster than evo, I don't understand why you even consider about it.

Maybe, if you are into 3d....
But in normal use, the EVO feels faster (I just played with one for a while last night).
The Evo exhibits no lag at all and feels peppier than my SGS.
Is SGS really faster than EVO? Any link that I can see the benchmark comparision?

the sgs is much stronger in graphics
cpu wise they are about the same, can't say how much the same cause i don't have one xD
but i'd rather have the hummingbird processor
+ this screen
Froyo (2.2) has already been announced for Asia. It will come in early August. Samsung said that International users will follow soon.
I chose SGS over Desire for its screen, better processor and GPU, better looks. I come from a series of iPhones (2g, 3g, 3gs) and I don't miss them at all.
SGS has some lags from time to time, but nothing really frustrating.
I use it all day and the only con is the battery duration. It needs recharging every single day (from 18-24 hours of usage).
One more thing that i don't like so much is the application for exchange email, but I'll look for a better one.
Other than that and of course the lack of paid applications due to my location (Greece), android and SGS fulfil my needs.
Why did I choose the SGS? (previous I had a Nexus One, previous to that iPhone 3G)
1. 4" screen
2. Better quality touchscreen than N1 (no axis swap bug)
3. PowerVR GPU
So, other than Nexus One, nobody has froyo 2.2 yet? I didn't want Nexus as the hardware is outdated by now, but its main attraction is the ability quickly keep up with Google's latest firmware.
BTW, to Dexter666, the key attraction of EVO to me was the 4.3 inch screen size. I was hoping that they have a GSM UTMS version. But since they only have CDMA version, the use is very limited, hence it's greatest weakness. It is not possible to use it even if we want to in Australia and most part of the world.
Also don't forget it has best video player compare to any other android handset as well as music player.
Support for almost all the native video codes, in DIVX & MKV up to 720P. No need to wait for any video player.
Music player with EQ. SRS WOW 5.1 through headset. Best screen to watch high quality videos.
Look at other forum section where owner of other (HTC) android handset always asking for good video player. I use to be among them once,
not any more though.
It hold batter 3G signals then my N1 and Desire and good battery life too
HD video
I was considering getting the desire but felt like it was a little old now and the new iphone 4 might have had to be my option though I so didnt want to go there! Then the SGS came out in the UK just last week and it had HD video capture an excellent screen and 2.1 so I was so there, had it for 5 days now and it has to be said it is one massive jump from what I had with the G1. The video capture might be the best in the mobile space! I compared it with my mates iphone 4 and the audio is crap on his in comparison... basically he is a massive apple fan boy but was looking at this phone with real envy as the screen did look better on a quick comparison!
couple of bugs with the clock, and browser but im confident that these are just teething issues with my hand set as I dont see many people talking about it on the net (yet)
I always had Samsung phones before and my Omnia i900 with WM had to be replaced. I went for the specs (the speed/sound/screen) and the look (and no I'm no iphone fan, just incase ) Never had experience with android but I must say I made a good chooise.

and mine is actualy a little faster.
Since your from Australia, the Optus plans for this phone are dirt cheap consider what you get. You pay what, $800 give or take online for the 8gb model, $850 or so for the 16gb (used to be a lil more pricy, add $50 or so) when you buy outright. Great caps, coverage is okay and decent data. Phone is fast, customizable and fun to play with. Typing is also really easy and the screen has awesome quality. Loving Vilingo for when I drive.
It was a pleasant change from Windows Mobile.
Edit: I also have to say, I ordered this phone online and got it within a day or two (ordered Monday night, received it early Wednesday morning). Optus staff are great and very helpful. Had to transfer my number and I got a very nice lady to sort out my issue within a few minutes. Very happy with this phone. Touchwiz UI is good but I did change mine.
Was going to get the HTC Desire, but it was not available anywhere. So I ended up getting the Galaxy S instead, just waiting for the delivery to arrive.
why sgs?
android, super amoled, touchscreen quality, 1ghz, gpu, microsdhc, presumably good coverage in these forums
disclaimer: not all of those might be unique to this device
All of you have posted some good points. To summarise, among the current top end Android phones
- best screen especially under bright sun
- best video recording sounds, in HD.
- best GPU
- best video and music player
- better touch screen than all HTC phones (but is it true multitouch like in iPhone?)
- one of the few Android phones with front cameras
I understand it does not have flash for the camera, right? This is one of the negatives, but in view of the other positives, I'm prepared to overlook this.
Another few questions outside this topic:
1) Is there any FREE software to sync my outlook contacts and calendar to Samsung Galaxy S?
2) Is there any FREE software to sync my musics, videos, podcast from iTune to Samsung Galaxy S, maintaining the playlist, ratings, and album artwork?
3) Can I get TomTom or Navigon Australia for Android yet?

+1 for why I choose the phone,
but I should also have check the software..... and as per now, it lack some feature that shoucd be std (ie proper contact synchronization, repeated lag, erratic GPS positioning) I could understand if it was samsung's first android phone, but it's not the case AFAIK
I thought all android are equal: we are not there yet....

omnia 7 or wait for focus

Hello. Sorry for asking this question again in forums. I saw a similar topic about 3 months ago but my question is rather different than just the design of the product.
In Brazil there's not too many choices for wp7 since it wasn't released here so my only option is to buy from ebay-like sites.
Omnia7 seems to be a nice device, i was looking for something smaller and lighter than hd2 (hd7 does not seem to be an option). Focus was my primary but its kinda hard to find it here and its more expensive than omnia7.
My question is should i wait for a good offer and get focus or omnia7 is good enough or even better than focus?
technically they are pretty much the same. I read that focus camera is really good, i was wondering if omnia has a good camera as well (this is important for me).
Some points:
- microsd is not a problem...im fine with 8gb
- camera is important
- weight/size is important
- known problems of both???
- some other choice i should consider?
thanks in advance
Few people will be able to answer you with true knowledge because the Omnia 7 in just in Europe and the Focus is just in the US. Not many people will have tried both. Engadget reviewed both, you could start there.
I just switched from a HD7 to an Omnia 7 (broke my HD7 switching the SD Card, decided to buy a phone where I wont be tempted to do that again and get a zune HD). I can't compare it to the focus but I can comment on your points.
- Camera:
The camera is actually pretty awesome, takes some nice decent shots and is miles better than the camera that came with the HD7.
- Weight:
Much lighter than my HD7, I think this is the lightest phone I've had in a while.
- Problems:
No problems so far, it performs quite good and games load up really quickly.
If you don't care about MicroSD Card slot then just go for the omnia, from what I can tell the focus is pretty much the same phone anyway but just a different shape and with a SD Card slot.
This is going to be a really weird thing to say, but one small annoyance is that it's made from metal. The phone back is literally freezing to touch in cold weather
As I know these two phones are nearly the same (foucs US only, omnia 7 worldwide), though it seems to me that omnia have far better build quality as almost whole body is made from aluminium (only top and bottom is plastic-wich is better because of scratching). And I'm actually impressed with the quality, 2 months of use and still no scratches without any protection, I also drop it once. It also feels extremly solid in hand. Far better than my old iPhone 2G (got scratched everywhere)
I have Omnia 7, build quality is top notch. Focus looks plasticy to me :] Camera is good as Samsung can make good cam phones :] Well, no problems on Omnia7
thank you all. we have a winner. Omnia7

Is the Trophy the best all round WP7 device?

I have been considering the jump from Android to WP7 and was wondering if the Trophy was the best all round device. I was considering the LG but it doesn't seem to get as much interest on here compared to other WP7 devices plus I am not all that convinced by LG. As to the Omnia 7, having owned the original GS I am not all that sold on super AMOLED screens. As for the Mozart well that I might consider, if only it was sold SIM free in the UK.
Actualy, hardware wise, all wp7 models are outdated. Take the HD2 and you have the basic windows phone. The Trophy is the cheapest model and considering the fixed hardware base, it's a winner. The screen is big enough, the perfect size for a phone. The build quallity is excellent, the materials too. Buttons are easy to pres. You get all the basics.
The screen, talking about the latest models, is a S-LCD, not the best black on the market by far, some ghosting effect is here to be seen too, but the touch is very responsive. Brightness is allright in dark places and on direct sunlight the phone is still usable. Battery is not the strongest point here, compared to the HD7, but a full day of use is what you get. With moderate use you go for 2 days without a problem. GPS connectivity is almost instant in open areas.
One problem with all HTC phones is the "internal storage" and the lack of the accessable SD Card slot. So with 8gb of space you are what limited. If you have in mind to expand the Trophy, you have a moderate level of difficulty when opening it. The Mozart is the hardest one, the HD7 is the easyest, you can change the card there with absolutelly no traces or warranty void.
Performance wise everything is the same, exept the difference in write speeds on the SD Card compared to other brands like Samsung. HTC are using Sandisk Class 4 cards but they are not very fast somehow. ( i have a class 2 card in mine atm. and i cannot find a difference , if not faster it's the same for me )
Last but not least is the price. The Trophy can be found for 180-200 EUR, a device with enough power in a very low price tag. I thing that with mango on the horizont the Trophy will become a very tasty product.
It's a personal decision, but i recommend the phone after using it for a month and comparing it to other HTC and Samsung devices on the market.
Thanks for your feedback on it. As you say it's a shame that all the range of WP7 models are slightly off the pace when it comes to the current generation of hardware.
No, not the best, but nice
If you have a choice, go with LG. They can be unlocked using some tool even after NoDo update from what I understand (do your research though, I haven't tried it since I don't have an LG). I understand tethering is also possible with it.
Focus has better screen (or so everyone says).
I love my Trophy, but I didn't really have a choice - that was the only device available to me. So I am not going to "disrecommend" it, but there are definitely better devices out there (depending on what you value).

Having looked into this some more doesn't the LG have some kind of issue with its Bluetooth chip?
Well IMHO, the Focus is the best wp7 out there today:
GOOD
======
-Screen - AMOLED and bigger than the trophy's
-Memory - expandable
-Camera - takes great pics and videos
-Super Lightweight and feels good in the hand
BAD
======
-Plastic body feels a little cheap.
-ATT (sorry not a big fan of them, even though I've been with them for 3 years now).
I've been waiting for Verizon to finally get a WP7 phone so I can switch back, unfortunately the Trophy is not the phone I was waiting for. The wife who's on Verizon right now is also dying to go WP7, but going from the droid x's huge screen to the trophy's tiny screen (relative to most smart phones out there today) just didn't cut it for her.
But hey, if you like the Tophy, go for it! It'll do most everything a WP7 phone can do just as well as the others.

Keeping your phone?

So I was pretty convinced that I would be picking up one of the second gen WP7 phones (probably a Focus S or Titan) but really I cannot see the point right now. My Focus still does everything I need, looks great, is fast and has zero problems. I think I might wait until the 3rd gen phones come out.
Is anyone else planning on keeping their Focus for a while or intending to trade up sooner?
A poll would have probably served you better.
Keeping it. As much as I like the design of the Focus S, I need my storage space and 16 GB just aren't enough
I've been very interested in the Focus S but unless there is a 32GB version I'll be keeping my original Focus (which has 40GB on it and yes, I'm using nearly all of that).
I've been more than a little perplexed at why the vast majority of WP7 phones are 8 and 16GB. If they had an SD expansion slot (that and the OLED screen were the big reasons I bought the Focus) it might make sense but to have such a beautiful multimedia/gaming phone and then cripple it with such a small amount of storage drives me nuts.
Heck, I upgraded my Wife's HTC Trophy to 32GB after it became readily apparent that the roughly 11GB of usable storage on the unit (after apps, etc... were all loaded) was simply not enough for her music collection and a few videos.
Keeping my Focus. I see no reason to invest in a Gen 2 device, no advantages for me.
If I hadn't run mine through the laundry, I'd definitely be keeping it. Unfortunately, I'm desperately waiting for the second-gen devices.
Likely buying the focus s. Faster cpu, but for me, I have the Inspire 4g too, and that .3" difference makes a big deal to me. Though I dont have as many issues using he wp7 kb as it is on the focus right now vs my inspire, I just would like slghtly more space, while Im already used to the res

Im deciding between keeping the focus and getting the new Nokia (or Focus S)... Big draws for me are Nokia Maps and the extra HSPA bands. I'm moving to Asia making Bing maps useless... Nokia maps from the demo at least appear to be in a different league performance wise than any of the google offerings. I also would be interested in getting something with longer battery life... Jumping ship in a heartbeat! Faster processor, 8 mp camera and front facing one are you kidding me. Then a Super Amoled plus screen. I'll be at ATT on day one.

Nexus One Still Good to this day?

I joined this forum actually to get some android help from ya'll you see well I live in Brazil and my parents in the USA, so I dropped my iPhone 3G (yes 3G not 3GS) and the touch screen cracked, so I would like to know from you guys that have more experience with Android if the Nexus One is a good phone still - compared that I only had a iPhone 3G which is not that great nowadays lol. So like the title of the topic says, is the nexus one still a good phone to this day compared at least to my old phone?
The community is also very active with updating it to the latest android it seems, and besides all I do with my phone is send SMS, read e-books and play Angry Birds and other games of that type, and a better camera would be welcome also.
Thanks
Yes, the Nexus One is an awesome today still, but something that's a tad annoying is the power button. It might start to fail relatively early or just completely die and a replacement costs as much as a used Nexus One.

I read online that if you root your phone, you can use the trackball to power it on and other methods, does it still apply to the latest version of android that N1 runs?

and is not about newer or such it is more about cost and as I am in Brazil, the phones here are expensive and I don't have much to work with anyways, so the N1 is a good and very affordable option and already comes unlock, well I could root the Desire HD but hey, the N1 already comes unblocked lol

To be able to unlock your screen with either the volume buttons or the trackball itself, you would need to flash a custom ROM.

I would recommend partitioning your sdcard (512mb-1gb ext4, no swap, no secondary ext) through 4ext recovery and then install this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1416894
First wipe everything three times (just to be sure)
Then install through 4ext

I don't know what planet you live on, but it's not the planet called "Reality." I have a SGSII and it has all of these great specs, but quite honestly, it's an inferior phone to the Nexus One. The Galaxy nexus and the Nexus S just blow it away.
There are so many things you can do with native android that you either can't do or are just a plain old pain in the ass compared to my nexus one.
The only things the Galaxy S II has on the N1 are internet speed (only in certain areas), camera and screen size/brightness.
Get the N1 and don't listen to spec hounds. Specs don't mean crap.

I believe you're the one that needs reality check.
A phone with extremely annoying and non-repairable touchscreen problem, faulty power button construction that makes it vulnerable and prone to failure, lousy sub-par GPU, slow USB transfer speeds, and you're suggesting it over much newer and better ones?
And to the OS argument - plain Android OS, at least till ICS, is crap - and IMHO, ICS adds nothing in exactly those areas that need adding. Any overlay will add LOTS of capabilities to it - be is crappy TouchWiz 3, much better TouchWiz 4 or also much better Sense 3/3.5. I posted enough comparisons of my own that show exactly where and how pure Android or CyanogenMod fall short and can't reach, no matter how you try.
Shortly - for the price of used or new N1, there are MUCH better options today. Sorry to disappoint.
It's not a bad phone, and some of my friends are still using it. Its quirks are livable with, if you don't demand gaming capabilities, and if you don't mind to occasionally turn off/on the screen when everything messes up, especially during navigation. If you already have it, there isn't much pressure to upgrade, if you can live with it. But if you're making your decision today - N1 is a bad decision.
And personally, neither me nor my wife found its quirks to be livable with. I lived with it for a year, because there were no better options at the time. My wife moved to another phone after 3 or 4 months.
If you want a good phone - see what fits your network. Being in Brazil, you probably need 850/1900MHz band phones, and all good MSM8x55 family models (Desire HD, Desire S, Desire Z/G2, MyTouch 4G/HTC Panache) are 900/2100 or 1700/2100 band. If some of those models exist with the bands you need - the suggestion is indeed to move to one of those. It'll be completely another world from Nexus One.

Way to lose all credibility in four words.
There are plenty of phones that came out after the nexus one that are better candidates. As others have said, the nexus one has a few too many hardware flaws that make it really crappy as a daily phone versus being a nice tinkering phone. The buggy digitizer and abysmal internal storage are two things that irritate me daily.
I would recommend checking out the Sony Ericsson Neo. The mytouch 4g is nice too; also known as the htc panache. If your budget is really tight you can look at the LG optimus one or something equivalent. You will still get the Google services with tradeoffs of using manufacturers' skins.

This.
As much as I love my Nexus One (power button and touch screen problems do not affect me that much), I wouldn't buy one now. Other phones with equal or better performance are in the same price range.

My iPhone 3G that I let it fall and crack the touchscreen -.- I mainly used it for sending SMS and calling, reading ebooks, and playing games such as Angry Birds, Jetpack Joyride, so nothing heavy on the phone, hell I barely used the camera since I always had my digital with me when I wanted to take a picture.
And I totally forgot about the BAND stuff, because when I bought my iPhone 3G to Brazil from the USA, I just unlocked it and voila I was using it, so now you got me, and I was reading a topic (not on this forum) about the Galaxy Europa (or Galaxy 5) and there is many differente basebands you can download, so I don't know if specific basebands only apply to Android phones or all phones, and I just got lucky with me iPhone 3G

Thanks mate, I will check on them, currently on eBay I see Nexus Ones going around for 70-100
mostly are around the 80s, so if I do buy one for 80 bucks is it worth it? The chances of having a headache with the phone are they common?
If there are any other phones in the same range @ eBay 80-100 (max 110) could you guys please help me out
Thanks
EDIT: Internal Storage, but can't you use a microSD card and plug it into the phone and it will extend its memory, or is the SDcard only used for certains items and the internal for other stuff - but isn't there something that lets you choose the partition size?
mighty nexusone
nexusone in question is an HTC phone made carefully for Google for developing android os in its first days and was the best in those days and still it is one of the best ones i believe, you just have to bear crappy start button which in some phones fail to operate and the Sonys freaky super LCD screen seen on late models. in my option super amoled screens are waaay better which can be seen on first models which i believe are better in quality from the newer ones ı used both and the early model which ı still keep as a spare phone is still working with no problems while the late model one which i sold did had problems with screen digitization and start button and comparing two of them ı sold the newer model as ı kept the older one so if you are buying a nexusone it is like lotary you can be lucky or unlucky depending the factory conditions while it is been made if you ask me i would recomend to buy one with amoled screen and buy it by seeing and touching it fizically.. but with the money you may spend on a nexus you can get a samsung galaxy S 16 gb and it will run flawlessly the new versions of android and plenty of memory in it if you are in to games with its 3d engine it will be great for you while you can keep lots of books to read in its huge memory yes it is not good looking as nexusone but it will last longer because it is plastic and drop resistant because of it....coming from iphone you will get use to it quicker since they look similar goodluck
I have been checking the price of nexus one in ebay for the last few days, it seemed that the ones in the 80-100 range mostly have problems while a functional ones will cost you 130-150 at least. I would highly suggest you to get a mytouch 4g instead for around 150.

Today I found an AMOLED Nexus One on ebay for sale, and it says it is the T-Mobile one but it is still unlocked to other GSM carriers worldwide right?
The Galaxy S is bit to pricey for my budget at the moment.

I did not metion samsung as i know they are crappy. I have both n1 and Desire HD and Desire HD just outpreforms the n1 on every aspect. The n1 is still a good phone, but not a good choice to buy right now.

Right now it is not the best choice. Definetly you can find better phones around. But we are talking about a smartphone quite old. But I love it, great community even if now the interest on this phone is gradually decreasing.
Sorry. Didn't mean to start a flame. I should have been more respectful in my words.
That said. The Galaxy S II Hercules would be a great phone if it had dev support or native android. Since it doesn't it loses a lot for me.
The Nexus One Desktop Dock is fantastic. There's no bloatware and the phone is pretty fast. Again, it may not have the specs of nearly all phones coming out today, but being a developer phone with native android makes it very competitive with most. When your talking about spending less than $200 for one versus $800 for the super phones of today, to me, it's a no brainer.
I'm using the GSII because it's faster and has a bigger brighter screen, but the bloatware & TouchWiz are just awful. After 48 hours with the phone, I rooted it and found that the choices for ROMs were paltry. I'm running "Dewizzed" and the battery drains in 10 hours.
No matter what the specs are I find these issues very troubling and dang near unacceptable.
I'm saving my sheckles for another Nexus. Either the S or the Galaxy...maybe both.
So is it safe to assume that on a tight budget of 80-100 bucks the best bet would be to buy a Nexus One (since it is already unlocked, and not a bad phone and great community support and hell even made it to use the 2.3.7) Also I would acquire one that was in good condition and with charger batteries and etc
So is my notion above right?
