A better Siri clone - EVO 4G General

I tried Iris, and it is decent but it needs a lot of work.
I found this one on the market and it is way better than iris, and a lot closer to siri.
https://market.android.com/details?...wsMSwxLDEsImNvbS5zcGVha3RvaXQuYXNzaXN0YW50Il0
If you download this text to voice engine,
https://market.android.com/details?...?t=W251bGwsMSwxLDEsImNvbS5zdm94LmNsYXNzaWMiXQ..
and then try a different voice,
https://market.android.com/details?...XNzaWMubGFuZ3BhY2suZW5nX3VzYV9mZW1fdHJpYWwiXQ..
it sounds a lot less like a robot voice. (unlike the android default)
Be sure to change the default Text To Voice engine and pick the voice you installed for it to work.
This voice assistant is much more interactive, will call, text, schedule appointments, add reminders to a notebook (internally or in evernote) ,and much more. I really like it, amazing app! Just wanted to share my findings, hope you like it as much as I do.

Thanks I'll give this a shot after I get home from work! I tried the iris alpha earlier and it was a little disappointing for me.

gonna try this out. Thanks for the heads up.

Yep, I'd love to hear what others think about it. So far, it has really impressed me.

so far i like Iris more. Maybe this will grow on me. I usually just ask it stupid, nasty questions to get a funny response that has nothing to do with the question anyways. lol

I wast really impressed with iris, siri is very well developed and works amazing on the iphone. i think thats the first compliment ive ever given any iphone, lol

Im curious to see how this one compares

try Voice Actions, its full featured and really well made, Kicks Siri's but in a heart beat!:
https://market.android.com/details?...sImNvbS5wYW5ub3VzLnZvaWNlLmFjdGlvbnMuZnJlZSJd
The devs call it now Jeannie.

Sorry, I tried the one from the OP, and it was terrible. Didn't find one thing I asked, even with the new TTS engine. I'm sticking with Vlingo.

"Jeannie" ("Voice Actions") is the best alternative available.
However, the free TTS voices available all sort of suck.
I really want someone to make a HAL 9000 voice library. I don't even know if is possible to sample the sounds from the lines used in the movie, break that into individual letter sounds and build a voice library, but that would be cool.

I must try this and then slap my friend that got the new iphone
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App

I have to say, I've tried Voice Actions, and it doesn't compare for the things I want to be able to ask.
With speaktoit assistant, ask about your daily agenda or schedule, and you actually get your agenda for the day and tomorrow.
I asked the same question to Voice Actions and it showed me the back end of a dairy cow... wtf?
To be fair, there is a flood of siri clones and each one has strengths and weaknesses. They will only continue to get better and better. I am going to keep voice actions, iris, and speaktoit assistant and see which one develops the fastest.
Has anyone purchased voice actions pro? Any better than the free version?

Certinly is better than iris. Once its trained.

Iris v Speektoit v Vlingo
Vlingo Virtual Assistant
I have been using Vlingo and compared to Iris and Speektoit Assistant the voice recognition and functionality are great! The U.I is far better than the opposing two as well. Just a thought and something to check out in the future..!

Works pretty nicely

Using Jeannie with IVONA https://market.android.com/details?id=com.ivona.tts and download an alternative accent.
Sent from my PC36100 using xda premium

if you use "voice actions" / "jeannie" you should download the SVOX tts pack and voices, makes it soo much more enjoyable. plus they are customizable.

I'm contemplating either to buy SVOX or IVANA. IVANA in my experience is much nicer sounding and the pronunciation is better. I'm just waiting to see that cost of it once it's out of beta.

[News]AppInventor from google

Everyone will be able to create apps soon.
Forget the 1 Billion apple apps, Google will get a Gazillion!
http://appinventor.googlelabs.com/about/
I have 6 great ideas (I think) written down ready to go. LOL. Hope I get an email back soon.
I'll give it a try
now we get even more trash in the market.
How to try it??
I don't think the Market can really get any more trashed. At least these apps ought to be well-designed under the hood and won't FC all the time. I'm eager to see what non-devs come up with.
And if this does cause a further flood of "useless" apps into the Market, it'll spur Google to make it easier to filter the Market, I hope.
dont all of you be so quick to judge. I taught myself how to program code..but I still dont know how to program AND make the userinterface. This will be a great tool for me since now I will just have to drag and drop textboxes and butons instead of trying to figure out how to code them into the app. I'm sure I'm not the only one out there like this.
forget making my own app, where can I get that Hellopurr apk!
You have to sign up for the opportunity to get this in the future. You can't just go and download it right now.

Agreed, its painful to create the layout xml by hand. Eclipse and droid-draw help, but AppInventor looks a lot more advanced.
This looks amazing. I hope that we'll be able to edit the underlying java code... That would make a GREAT starting point for lesser coders like me, wanting to get the ball rolling fast on Android, or even with prototyping UIs.
I'd also like to take a crack at this, while my Java is improving I've got much more background in Visual Basic which this seems pretty similar too. Seems like a great learning tool, although I also worry about 10 million TEST.apk's hitting the market. Hopefully someone will get it soon and it will hit the torrents.

Its a web app. The only downloadable part of this is software that lets your android phone communicate with the browser, and thats already available from the website. You need a beta invite to use the actual "inventor"
Someone already got a mail from them?
IMO should have an "experimental" label on them until x amount of downloads and a minimum X amount of stars on them.
It will increase the total number of android apps yet wont flood the market with more garbage.
P.S 80% of apps are trash or repeats. Doesnt matter what the OS is. You dont have 50-200,000 apps and have most of them be quality.

Agree, it's not like Iphone has more useful apps than android...
But this app inventor will definitely encourage more dev to come to android, which is what google needs the most now.

I really dislike this idea, The market already has enough sub par apps when compared to the Apple Appstore, yes the appstore has its fair share but cmon this will allow EVERYONE to submit an app of their own.
Yea the Market will have a "gazillion" apps, how many of those apps will be Great, not many

Getting Sense UI Widgets on Nexus One, Like Bookmarks

Hey guys. I'm wondering if it's possible to get some of the very nice looking HTC Sense Widgets on our Stock, or Vanilla 2.2 Phones. I have a N1 running CM6.1 Nightly and I'd love some Sense UI Widgets.
Yes I have Beautiful Widgets, and that is nice. But I'm looking for stuff like there Bookmarks Widget, and there Calls or Call Log, and the People Widget, or things like those. Is this possible? I love the bookmarks widget on Sense, that is one of the main things I want. Thanks for any help or suggestions.

Impossible to get the actual widgets on stock android...however you can download LauncherPro and pay for the plus features and it comes with a slew of sense style widgets (resizable too so IMO better)
and for ADW Launcher there are free and paid widgets u can download from the market which work well with it.
I wonder why we can't extract the widgets from Sense.. that sucks.
and I've never gave Launcher Pro an honest try, so maybe I should check it out. but ADW is integrated into CM6. I've looked on the market. There doesn't seem to be any good Bookmark Widgets out so that might be a no go. But thanks!
the launcher pro plus is the way to go...yes it isn't free but it is well worth it. LauncherPro itself doesn't support widgets, the paid version does though it is available thru the app and not thru the market.
just the extra's. I'll be looking into it now I guess. Thanks!

For every post on the forum someone will respond "USE THE SEARCH FEATURE, THATS BEEN ASKED ALREADY" - I think that was the point of his question as it was worded, "...can u lead me to" - not to mention the person who types that response almost never includes the helpful link to the question being asked - I ask "why is that?" Comeon helpful forum community be helpful - for the record I've only once used the search feature n found what I was looking for - this is way too much information to be sorted this old way - SOMEONE NEEDS TO DO A NIGHTLY BUILD FOR THIS FORUM
I use the Twitter, Facebook and Calendar widgets in Launcher Pro Plus and they're great.
You won't be disappointed in the purchase.

This is because HTC widgets rely on large chunks of HTC framework, "melted" among AOSP code. The way to go would be to backport some of it back into AOSP, AND largely modify the widgets to make them not rely as much on Sense. Highly impractical.
If I recall correctly, adding HTC widgets was tried by people online on ADW on HTC phones, and it wouldn't work because you cannot use them outside of the HTC Sense launcher.
For the call log, get the last call widget. Tapping the left will open up the whole call log, and on the right you can make a direct call back.
For the people widget, give picture dial a try.
picture dial is the way to go...

Launcher Pro
I'm running completely stock and Launcher Pro is the best all in one solution I've found. I paid for the full version have not regretted it. There are several very useful Sense-like widgets (Bookmarks, Calendar, Facebook, Twitter, Friends [which is all your social networking feeds in one], Messaging, People [which is your contacts]). It also allows your homescreens to rotate to landscape, gives you a customizable and scrollable dock. I also find that it scrolls much more smoothly than the stock launcher.
Well worth the purchase price.
Dialer one is almost an exact replica of the sense dialer FWIW and free.

That's a pretty blunt way of saying things. You telling me you can prove he stole the code from htc and htc is taking so damn long to pull a cease and desist?
And he's currently rewriting the code from scratch so it should be a different beast altogether in the next version.

Cease and desist between two countries with loose IP laws? That's a waste of time.
Look at his earlier .apks you'll find HTC assets in the res folder that have nothing to do with the launcher at those points. *oops*

Siri-Alternative in beta

Hi there,
I heard of Iris but for me it's.. well.. not that great. So I've created my own app called Risi. You can try it for free on the Android Market.
It would be great for me if you could test it a bit and give a little review of what Risi does well and things that are still missing. I'm going to include that new features then to make it an real Siri-Alternative for those without an iPhone.
Regards,
AndroidChromeOS
i don't know for some reasons its not speaking ... but replying fine!
I think it's a great idea and works but the engine it's a bit hit and miss. Even if the voice to text is recognised the suggestion sometimes is a bit random. Why not use Wolfram engine? No guesses why Wolfram apk hasn't been updated in market for a while.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk
Hi,
The application does not work on HTC Desire HD.
And I think he does not understand French?
Its betfer than iris.
u should include better ui , risi speaking to us.
better brains.

Thanks for all that feedback. Risi will speak soon to you.. I'm currently working on this. The program is already connected to trueknowledge, thats something similar to wolfram alpha. The problem is that the chatbot is before that technology so he have to decide witch informations have to be fetched. But thats what I'm going to fix today. Please stay tuned

or
"what are the ingridients"
I don't know what you've said to him but he only recognizes english atm
She's speaking now!!!!!!1111
Good !
And the French version please ?
I like !
Can it recognize german?
No it's english only at the moment. But I may add other languages in the future
I've tried other "assistants" and they always have that robot "Moon Accent" as Peter Griffin says.
This the same or no?
Yeah sure its the Google TTS-Service.. Write another one frome scratch would take years.
Woow cool its faster than Iris and it has a better chatbot. Keep on your great work.
all i could get her to say was Hi. She would say nothing more.
how should this work? i cant do anything in the app. it only says hi and thats it, cant click the mic or anything. do i miss something?

I had installed it but I could not adjust to it. siwftkeyX is the best
it comes with a pretty steep learning curve and it's still a nascent idea. But give it some time and a whole lot of research and it may rival the best(bar swype, that is). a collaboration between swype and siine would be a wet dream. (they can name it siipe or, yeah you guessed it swiine)
