[Q] "Slide to Power Off" not working - HD2 Windows Phone 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting an

I have the latest mango working on my HD2. Loving it, but I'd like to power down my phone on occasion. When I hold the power button down, I get the window that says "slide down to power off". When I attempt to slide it down, it doesn't respond. Anyone else experiencing this? Or does anyone know how to shut down the phone besides opening it and removing the battery?

There's no other way as far as I know...
But you can try to make a hardreset (they often fix some issues) or use a different storage card as slow cards can cause a lot of strange issues.

Hey, found somthing that might interest you:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1006331
He's talking about being able to shutdown the system view native code. Download the test app, there's maybe a shutdown test.

My HD2 started doing this yesterday. No indication this would happen either. After I unsuccessfully attempt sliding to shut down the hard buttons (green call / home / back / windows / red power) still work, but I am unable to use any of the tiles. I have to press the (red) power button a few times until it will allow me to unlock the phone and use the tiles. The last two apps I installed before this occurred were What's App and Microsoft Unit Converter. I uninstalled both and nothing changed. I was on 7720 and then updated to 7740 and the SP1 update provided. This didn't change the behavior either. Any one with a clue on how to fix this, please assist.
The only time it has allowed me to slide to shut down is when the battery was completely drained and it warned me to charge the phone or it would shut down. Otherwise I have to pull the battery to shut down.
This did make me realize an instant reset / shut down application would be nice.

I had this same issue occur about a week & a half ago. It only got worse. It's probably a broken digitizer. It's been happening a lot lately to HD2 owners. I'm taking mine in tomorrow to get fixed. Check around, I found a place to do it for $50. Or if you feel comfortable changing it yourself, you can order them for around $20 on Amazon. Or if you have insurance, you can get it fixed by HTC.

I am hoping it is not the digitizer as I don't have anyone to fix it for a low cost locally and after watching the process on youtube, do not really want to try it myself.

I had the same issue after SP1,
I reflashed just yesterday my phone again to 7740. Now everything is working perfect now. I will wait for the SP1.5 .

This happened to me too....a warning sign my digitiser was about to go

This happened twice within a year so it really worries me that it will happen again. Especially as warranties are running out

Worked like a charm. Thank you.
One odd tid bit. When I ran the update it said it was unsuccessful. Remember I was already on 7740. It still worked though!

HD2 New Weird Screen wont unlock issue - help

this is a new problem for me. I have been using the most recent Dutty ROM together with Mdeejay Android ROM without any problems. All of a sudden, when I try to unlock the screen after STANDBY, it just wont register my touch, as if I am not touching it. It boots up fine, and on the first unlock works fine, but when the screen lock goes on again (after every standby) it just wont unlock. So I am stuck (I use Exchange and our policy forces the lock after standby, so I have to use it - and its worked fine for ages).
If I boot into Android, it works fine, the unlock works fine, yet strangely when I try to shut the power down, THAT screen also doesnt register me touching it.
I have hard reset but even before I load an app or do anything, the problem exists.
I also reflashed a DUTTY ROM. Same problem.
I tried CHT lockscreen - same issue. After Standby, screen doesnt register my touch.
Anyone have any ideas?
Same problem for me.. Restoring a backup image after being forced to hard reset this morning and now suddenly my HD2 won't wake up after sleeping. Pressing my end key only lights up my buttons but I have to pull the battery to reset. I'm thinking it's related to me having CHT installed, yours however might be a different problem.
I had something similar. It was right after I had installed CHT 2.0 and was looking to make the top and bottom bars transparent. I found a cab that claimed it would do this and installed it. Sorry, I don't recall what cab it was and I have deleted it. When I rebooted Sense would hang and if it got into a lock it would only move the slider a little where it would stop. Luckily, I had done a backup that morning right after I installed CHT 2.0 with Sprite so I restored and all was well.
I don't know if this is of help but I figured I'd throw it out there.
it wakes up, but wont register when I try to swype the unlock screen.

Your lucky you get that far lol.. I don't get any waking up. Plus I now uninstalled S2U2 and still no change. Disabled all locks of any kind and still frozen with sleep of death with in 1 min of hitting power to sleep it. I REALLY don't want to to a hard reset and install everything from scatch.. UGH.
weird update...
It has something to do with which key i witch the device on with. If I use the phone key, I can swype the unlock. If I use the power key, it doesnt register.
Another related issue: when i hold the power key to switch off, it wont register me touching power off or reboot etc. so I have to take the battery out to switch off. Its the same in Android.
Anyone know? Hardware issue?

im having the exact same issue. I have flashed 3 different roms and flashed to the newest radio (2.15).
I started out using energy rom, didnt help. Flashed a newer energy rom, didnt help. Now im using the dusk rom, same issue.
SOMEONE PLEASE HELP!!!!
It's a quite common digitizer problem lately... it seems the HD2's digitizer is failing on some units, possibly because of usage with android? my father's device acted the same way, only it sometimes did register touch and other times, not.
My device doesn't have these problems, yet. But seeing that a lot of people here are experiencing these issues, and with the notion that I use android pretty much all the time since I first booted my device, i'm pretty sure i'll experience it soon as well..
Make no confusion thou, the assumption that android effects the digitizer are purely my own thoughts on this matter, no such thing has been proven and the conclusion that android is effecting our HD2s is based purely on the statistics of touch screen failures in the last few months since android has been made publicly available in a working form.
EDIT:
Those seeking A solution, as far as I know, the only solution is sending your unit to HTC for repairs, you'll get it back with a note that says that they replaced your digitizer or your screen, at least these are the reports I heard from the other folks whom followed this procedure.
Good luck.
HTC HD2 Screen Lock
I have only used Android a few times on this 'phone and it has a standard HTC/O2 ROM installed so it must just be a problem with the top part of the digitiser. With android running the unlock is at the bottom and is unaffected.
Is there any way of testing the digitiser before deciding whether to get a repair sorted,

A friend was complaining to me about something like this since last week. I could not figure it out so I went ahead and installed Android cm7 and still have the same issue.
Until I read this post after searching through the forums all over Screen now unlocks perfectly fine but only using the green Phone icon. If I try to wake the screen with the red Power button, the screen is unresponsive.
Thanks for the info.
Already happened tome its a hardware issue can't be fixed so if you still have warranty on ur phone send it to htc for repairs b because it tends to get worse n worse soon other keys will start to give in I think that's one reason why most android phone been switching to capacitive buttons because hardware causes this sorta issues and send it in for repairs to get it fixed

[Q] phone shutting down whilst screen lock

has anyone faced the phone switching off even when it's screen locked? This happened a few times to me.
1st scenario is when my phone is in a waist pouch which is a little tight for this model. when i take it out of the pouch, i either find it off or waiting at the sim unlock screen. this is caused by pressing the power button accidentally.
2nd scenario is after charging over night, i wake up to find the phone asking me to key in sim unlock pin (it will not be completely off because whenever charger is plugged in, it will power up). The phone was screen locked before i charge it and i did not touch the power button by accident unlike scenario 1.
which ever the scenario, by right the power off button shouldn't work whilst in screen lock right?
The same scenarios happend to me, sometimes more than once a day. Very annoying.
I too have this issue, especially the overnight charging one, which is annoying because then the alarm fails to go off!!! After convincing 2 other people to get the Trophy 7 they also experience this.
I called HTC support in the UK yesterday and all they could suggest to me was that I reset the phone settings, which I've done, and of course ended up needing to put all my settings back in which is extremely frustrating when I expect that it won't fix anything.
I really would recommend calling HTC support in your country and logging a call, because the guy told me that I was the first to report it.
You can get the phone numbers from the htc website, which i cannot post the URL to since I'm a new user, but I'm sure you can find it. Go to "Support" -> "Customer Service" -> "Support by hotline"
Of course, you could not call them to report the issue, but then they'll think that I'm the only user in the world with the problem and not actually resolve it!!! It's going to take you about 10mins and they'll keep talking to you about windows mobile 6.5, instead of windows phone, but the more calls logged = greater chance of resolution.
I've had the turning of when it's in my pocket, but i've never had it turn of overnight when charging.
at least not that i've noticed
Whilst experimenting with android on my touch pro from the very beginning when you couldn't enter a sim code, i've removed it and i'm to lazy to set a new one
All the problems (screen freeze of crazy dancing icons of phone shutting down) solved after FLASHING newest WWE ROM from this forum. Maybe helps, but U have to decide and do it yourself or not.
This has happend MANY times on my trophy aswell.. I ended up turning off the sim lock code (That way the phone starts up again after boot and your alarms etc works)
Yup, I've had the "pocket" thing also happen to me, more than once in the same day... quite frustating.
Qtek S200 (HTC Prophet) After ROM update, its now shutting down whilst in sleep mode
Sorry to dig up an old thread, but recently I upgraded my s200's ROM using the CD utility that came with it. Its now running Build 14928.2.2.0 of WM5.
Before the ROM update it has never done it once.
Some people said they got the problem when it went into lock screen, my lock screen is fine. It will only do it when the phone is in sleep mode, if i disable the "power off" timout setting then its absolutly fine aslong as i dont press the power button.
Did anyone ever find a solution to this problem?
Somebody did mention about flashing the rom from one of OS's on this site, but all the ones I have found contain dead rapidshare links.
Any help appreciated
Thanks
My solution on Trophy is simple, using a Casemate case on my phone. It makes the off button so stiff, that it's hard to shut off.
I guess I never realized why it was such a pain in the case to shut off... this MUST be the reason. Also, since I now have two Trophy's (one for developing roms), this other one I just bought has been through hell, and it's difficult to half press the camera button to focus. The Casemate case I have on my good Trophy makes it far harder to press the camera button, but my year old Trophy that I've always had doesn't suffer from any problems with its camera button.
This is the newer version of the Casemate case I was using on my HTC Trophy. I don't know if this will help you with your older phone, but maybe Casemate makes a case for it. Since it's an older phone, it will be difficult.

LG G2 D802 - Power Button Problem

Hey everyone,
First of all thank you for taking a look in my thread, this is my second post here in this forum but, I just have to tell you guys, I've been around since 2012 and you guys rock!
Anyway enough of chit chat, so I had my phone pretty much hard bricked, thanks to some tutorials I've finally found a way to get it back to life BUT ( there's always a but ), it isn't like before, everything was working very nicely after the fix, the Power button stopped working, the volume rockers are still fully functional but the power button isn't. So I thought "f*ck this, I gotta buy a new flex assembly", that's what I did, it arrived today, so I got to work and put it all together with the new button, but for my surprise it is EXACTLY de same as before, so it seems like it has nothing to do with the flex assembly/buttons itself but something more like motherboard or something..
Have any one of you guys had this issue? By the way another very interesting thing is that the buttton "still gives signal" since if I press on it, it doesn't do anything even with the phone off BUT, if I have the phone turned on, and I press it for 5+ seconds , it shutdowns the phone as it should! So why isn't it working when I do a press, but if I hold it works?
By the way my phone when died even the partition table got corrupted, so I even had to redo that could it have anything to do with it?
Oh and the basic tips of putting the phone in Download Mode and fully revert to stock didn't work, already did it many times since I brought it back to like..
Regards, and thank you for reading this LONG post and spending your time with me :silly:

Hi, i has been a long time until you wrote this topic, but now, in 2018, i got the same problem that you.
I bricked the phone, unbricked with some xda's tutorials, install a kdz image and system got ok, but the damn power button not work.
It work on a very specific moment that is when the phone is on and i press the button, after 5 seconds the phone turn off, but none menu appears, it just turn off. Besides, it won't work to turn on the device. In this case, i aways need to put the cable and when the LG log appears I must remove (if not, the battery symbol is shown, and the device not turn on).
I wonder if you were able to fix your phone or someone of xda had this problem.
Thanks
Nope never got it fixed just moved on and bought another device, besides that is now a outdated device..

20 days, 2 bricked Nexus 6P

I assume bricked is the right term. And I'm pleading for some help here on what I can try before I call Google Support again.
Here is the quick run down: Bought 2 Nexus 6P, (Gray - Me), (White - Wife). Wife bricks her phone in 15 days, screen seems to work when held at different angles, can't seem to get it to stay on permanently, acts almost like an old VCR where it will partially draw the screen horizontally. Almost like a loose connector. It only stays on for milliseconds at a time, not long enough to factory reset or do anything remotely useful. Holding power for 8 seconds doesn't help. Holding power and both volumes does not help. Just to clarify, device is running, screen is black. Not a boot issue per say as a screen issue. Could previously hear her get alerts, can't right now (only see a battery icon). Since the screen is the main issue, I'm flailing in the dark as to where I am at any given point in time.
I assume how she uses the device because mine has been perfect and I can't seem to find a vocal crowd with this issue. However, after she bricks hers, she uses mine for an entire week and doesn't have any problems. Google support is extremely helpful and sends out an entire new device. I set it up and restore the apps, within 3 days (Friday -> Sunday) she has the exact same issue again - bricked. Now I'm completely flabbergasted. This device is still spotless, she has barely used it, it hasn't hit a surface hard, hasn't even been sneezed on. I can't even begin to stress how short a time period this is for a device to brick in. I can't help but feel this is a software app and the restore brought over the delinquent app. However, how come I can't reset the device and get back to a clean slate? Can anyone give me a trick?
Please, please help. She wants me to switch back to Verizon because of these device issues. However, even with 2 people, we are saving a ton on Project Fi and I really need this to work. Everything else has been a joy.
So I got it working. But I have a few questions...
Process:
1. Connected it to charger
2. Held power and both volume connectors
3. Held power again
4. Did both of these actions for upwards of 30 seconds at a time hoping for some response from the device.
5. Put it down on the table to write my forum post (still charging).
6. Battery image came on and off the screen randomly
7. Picked it up and held power one last time and it started booting normally.
I'm not sure which sequence of events led to what and I'd really love to know how to reliably reset it in the future. If this is the case then it means it was a software issue all along that persisted over several reboots.
Additionally, I'm frantically pulling software off of her phone - Elmo Calls, Sesame Go, Snapfish, Pinterest, etc. Fearing that one of these apps that I don't run on my device could be causing this. Is there any way to troubleshoot the software itself and see what device could have had access to the screen power and perhaps been powering the screen off as soon as I attempted to power it on (causing a flicker)?
Thanks.
your experience is really unusual you bought 2 phones but the one you are using does not have problems but your wife has, you switched phone then the problem occurs there is a chance a program is causing it as you already received a new one and it still occurring try to let her use the phone with the same software you are using and avoid which you dont use see if there is any progress.
Did you try factory resetting either phone?
Sounds like a software issue if they both had the exact same issue.

That's what I was going to say. Seems consistent to what a strong magnet would do to a screen. My next guess was a rogue app.
No magnets, nothing crazy. It started happening again yesterday a few hours after fixing it, I've hard wiped the device and bypassed the restore. Only updated the base applications and it is sitting on a charger - waiting to see if it will happen again.

Or, as OP seems to like to get things in 2, get 2 new wives so that if you brick one, you still have one left without having to wait for RMA.
All jokes aside, is there any specific oddities in how your wife uses phones (Does she work at a metal scrapyard with a big ass magnet? Okay, I promise, last one.) Or you could be extremely unlucky to have bought a defective unit, which was replaced by another defective unit.
To reliably reset the 6P you just hold the power button until the phone vibrates as it starts to boot again. Did the screen flake out as it booted up too?

Although these posts are funny as hell, honestly you would be surprised how many common every day things you come into contact with that can wipe data right off any storage medium. Although its definitely a possibility that you received a crap refurb phone, when you get the next RMA I would take some time to monitor your wife's daily routine with her cell (not her tinder activities), she might just be placing it near/on something that is wiping the phone or corrupting the data. Could also be a really junk app, but google is pretty good about keeping them out of the play store the best they can.

Yea, it was flaking out on the 8 second hold reboot - I performed it dozens of times without getting my screen back. What works reliably for me is to hold power and both volumes and then hit power again once the diagnostic screen shows up (whether I can actually see it or not). The reboot off of the diagnostic screen seems to bring the phone back to life consistently.
She is using the phone w/ just the base apps from yesterday - I told her to try breaking it without loading new apps - will see how this plays out today.

Was that diagnostic screen flaking out too? I suggest to get more aggressive and factory reset through recovery and than ONLY connect her google account to get her contacts. Run like that for about a week. Otherwise your other choice would be to unlock the bootloader and try a custom ROM. I would suggest Cyanogenmod, DLROM (mine), Pure Nexus Project, or even Noob Builds.

Was actually going to say this too, is there somewhere she goes or sits which has some kind of strong magnetic field? It's odd that it happened to one and then to the next one, unless they're just both from a faulty batch.
Suppose I will add a follow-up. Since I ripped all her software off the device it hasn't crashed once in the same fashion. So I mean, that is the conclusion. I'd love to say I knew how to dive deep enough into Android to pinpoint exactly which app had such incredibly disruptive and adverse affects (far worse than complete OS crashes). But I don't know Android well enough. Google has the original phone. It definitely seems like an app should not have been able to take over the display so completely.
I'm going to move forward and have my wife install more of her apps. Just wanted to shoot an update out in case I don't revisit this. Thanks everyone who posted.
Maybe a combo of rogue (rouge?) apps? I mean some apps do have the ability to draw over screen, so that might have caused whatever problem you had.
And OP, don't leave us

Yotaphone 2 vol and power switches not working. Phone not charging.

Yotaphone 2 from Tinydeal, so running KitKat.
Suddenly no power switch working, no volume control, and does not appear to charge. Blank front screen. Mirror screen OK on back.
When receiving a call the main screen will light up and work. Battery is 85%.
I've read elsewhere that the tinydeal phones have been flashed (rooted?) so it's inadvisable to try a factory reset.
I can change volume with the sliders on the back screen, but the volume slider does not appear on either screen just by pushing the volume buttons.
Any ideas, or is it another case of returning it to tinydeal?

You first have to run yotaflasher and have it download a firmware. After that you will have a Radio folder in the Firmware folder.

If the hardware buttons (volume) are not working there seems to be something wrong with your phone. This is however where the simcard is inserted. Have you tried removing the simcard tray and inserting it again? If the volume controls don't seem to work after that you phone may be faulty and it is best to return your phone as you seem to be the only one with this problem.
No, I the folder just wasnt there. Though I used the method of first flashing newest 4.4 EU firmware (which worked) and then turned on and Android automatially downloaded 5.0 update. It was ****ing scary I have to say as it took about 0,5-1 hour with phone turning on and off so sporadically that I thought that it was actually dead in between. No HW keys worked during the process (yes I freaked out) and display was turned off. At the end battery actually died even though it was connected to PC by usb. But I didnt know that so as the last resort I plugged it into charger and I got directly to 5.0. Method was actually pretty flawless but the way the phone looked was really scary. (99% of that time time it looked and behaved as bricked) - black screen no feedback from any combination of HW keys.

Well, whilst waiting for advice from tinydeal after uploading a video to them, I left the phone alone and it took about 12 days for the back of the phone to lock, signifying that the battery had finally totally run down. I then plugged the phone back onto its charger and held the power button for about 15 seconds. Suddenly the charger light came on, then went off after about ten seconds, then came back on again. Pressing the power button again brought the front screen back to life!
So I conclude that the problem sometimes solvable with phones with a removeable battery (reboot the phone with a battery disconnection) can't be done with the Yotaphone. The downside here is that the Yotaphone battery takes so long to run down (12 days!)
I have exactly the same problem as the OP. No Sim card tho, just WiFi. I have just had the phone for about 3 weeks.

After my experience I suggest leaving wi fi on to help run the battery down.
Someone else on another website suggests holding the power button and both volume buttons for about 15 seconds to force a reboot.... but that didn't work for me.
I did a hard reset, but no difference, except unlocking the rear screen is easier now (?). I'll let the phone run down as suggested...

Hello, I have the same problem. Suddenly vol up, vol down and power button stop to work. But if I hold them together (vol up or down with power) then they work. So it seems like the software problem for me.
I have Android 4.4.3
update: I flashed my yotaphone to 5.0 and now everything works fine!
Draining battery solved it for me!
As per the title. My keys would not work. I let the phone run until the battery died and now they work again.
Flashing different firmware didn't help me...
I have a CN YotaPhone 2 from Gearbest
