atrix vs inspire - Atrix 4G General

I own a inspire now and someone wants to trade me a atrix for it. Im not a big fan of motoblur but the has the better hardware. My biggest concern is battery life and reception. Neither have been that great on the inspire. Im hoping that the atrix falls under the tradition of motorolas great reception. Has anyone ever had the opportunity to compare the two well?

I have no problem with the reception, and the battery life is definitely better than Inspire. If you don't mind the smaller (4" vs 4.3") screen, do the trade.

I'd say its worth it considered getting an inspire at one time, but then just decided to keep my Atrix
Sent from my MB860 using xda premium

I'd say that's a good trade for you. I have the atrix and my wife has the inspire and there's no way I'd pick the inspire over my atrix.
My atrix has better battery, better signal strength, better GPS, and if I remember correctly, more internal storage. I even like the screen on the atrix better. Just my two cents. Hope it helps.

Yes, it is.
O wai- this isn't the Inspire forum.
The Atrix is much better than the Inspire. Why? It's qHD, and you'll NEVER notice the Pentile. Same with the build quality. HTC has produced phones with build quality like the Atrix before. Namely the HTC Aria.
No, seriously, if you are trading, than the Atrix is smaller, lighter, and much faster. It has some issues playing back higher bitrate media the Inspire wouldn't, but that's just encoder stuff. Overall, I would choose the Atrix over the Inspire, 100 times out of 100. If this was the Sensation, or Titan (yeah, I know), then I'd be a lot more on the border, but this is Inspire vs Atrix.

Atrix all day!!!

Lol im trying to speed up the trade process guys. Hopefully it happens.

Atrix battery life is atleast 10 times better than the Inspires.

Inspire was my first Android phone. Terrible Battery life and poor reception - just like you said. Antenna design is worse than iPhone 4.
Traded in for Atrix and have not regretted it once. Reception is better plus 4G is more 4G-y. My Inspire would barely do 2mb/s and my Atrix averages 3-4mb/s. Battery life is no comparison. Inspire I had to give two bump charges a day. Atrix will go all day without a bump unless I plan on going bar hopping til 2 am. And I am a heavy user that syncs two exchange email accounts, two gmail accounts and google voice.

I have both and the Atrix beats it all day. The Inspire is a nice backup phone though

I'm hoping this is truth. I just did an insurance replacement for my Aria, and since it's discontinued, they're sending me an Atrix (best $50 ever spent?).

I used to have an Inspire, and sold it and bought an Atrix.
Basically: Atrix: Better battery life. Front camera. Inspire: Better/Bigger screen.
There is not perceptible speed deference on daily use.
I miss the size of the Inspire screen. But like the battery of the Atrix better.

In my house hold there is two atrix and one inspire, lets just say I'm glad I own one of those atrix lol...
But seriously, I'm always hearing my sister complain on her crappy battery life and horrible reception. Neither of which I have a problem with, plus its much faster especially if you get off that crappy motoblur stuff. Only downfall I see for the Atrix is the built quality and the camera, I give that round to the inspire. Other than that, can't see why you wouldn't go for it... hurry before they change their mind!

Returning inspire getting atrix

I decided after playing around with the inspire that I'm gonna return it on Tuesday and move up to the atrix. Anyone else doing this? Root has been obtained for inspire but its pretty complicated for a noob like me.
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
Same here. I really liked the Inspire, think I'll like the Atrix more.
I'm also exchanging my Inspire for the Atrix. While I love the screen, I found the phone itself to be too large for my tastes.
It's likely that root on the Atrix, if it is achieved, will be far more difficult than the Inspire. The Inspire is just an AT&T version of the Desire HD which has been available for some time and is well understood. Being a "newb" and not understanding how to use a phone or do certain things is not a good reason to return one for another phone that will be as or even more complicated...
I already returned my inspire. I liked it but the battery issue was a deal breaker for me. I want a phone that at least will give me 8 hours of battery time, the inspire died in my pocket before lunch one day.
Same here. The battery issue and slow CPU.

I am all in for the Atrix, but you would be hard pressed to find a phone other then the Atrix, right now that keeps up with the Inspire's CPU scores.. Not Dual-Core, but not slow.
Lol I know being a noob isn't a good reason. Yeah battery does suck though, sound sucks, led notification works half the time, and I'm getting some crappy yellowish tints on a lot of my pictures. In willing to take a $35 hit on restocking fee, plus extra $100 that atrix cost for the extra processor, ffc, and hdmi out.

Edit: ran smartbench because I was curious..got 861 productivity, 1273 games index...yeah reallllly low scores...I think quadrant favors snapdragon

I am just wondering. Does a Dual core phone with 1GB RAM (not sure how much is usable) make so much difference in usage as compared to Inspire with 768MB RAM and 1 Ghz processor?
It's not like we have to use processor intensive apps like "matlab" or something

I am getting atrix as well and I am on inspire right now. yes it is a slower cpu then the one in atrix, but does it feel slow? inspire feels like the fastest android phone I have ever used up to this point. I really dont think it is atrix will feel any faster just because it has faster hardware. May be it will handle things better in the future. For now it has been great.
Inspire's already old tech. Good choice on returning it.
You got to admit... The inspire is built well. Man, that thing is a nice slab of metal! I would say it's the best built phone I've ever used. I too will be returning for the atrix (shipped tomorrow to my local at&t store) just for the battery life alone as the inspire's battery is real bad... My concern is the built QLT of the atrix. All cheap feeling plastic? Weird, as MOTO usually makes a solid feeling device... hmmm
I got the Inspire last week. Best thing about Inspire is Sense IMHO. It has the best email, phone and calendar software of any devce I know. BUT I think the camera, screen, battery and sound are all inferior (I also have a CaPTIVATE that has a perfect custom ROM so everything works). I will also give the Atrix a go and then decide which to keep.

Well... yes, depending on what you're doing. The dual core processor os going to let you do things faster, and help keep the phone from slowing down when running cpu intensive apps like games and sstuff.
The ram will help keep thongs open; with 512 I.can have a browser and maybe aan app pr two, but open a game then switch to the browser, and the game resets because android tries to run it all in the background.
More RAM will allow more things to stay open in memory along with allowing a smoother overall experience.
Captivate 2.2.1 Paragon
do you have to pay in order to return the phone? and/or is there a fee to exchanging it to an atrix?

So which phone are you going back to?

Have had it in use for more than a day. Battery life sucks, data speeds suck, screen is less than unimpressive...and when compared to my no-longer outgoing ATT Nexus One, its subpar in nearly every way that I seem to use a smartphone.
Its going back tomorrow. Who else is as turned-off this quickly by the Atrix?

The Atrix may have larger performance numbers on paper but I'm saying that for how I use a phone the Atrix isnt great...its not even good.

Oh, and I'm coming from an iP4 and an Inspire as my last 2 phones. Inspire batter was just horrid for me, but the Atrix has taken a full day's punishment of being used heavier than normal and I still have about 40% remaining. That includes tons of gaming (crazy snowboard and Angry Birds mostly) and some music, YouTube and browsing.

How exactly does it blow it out of the park when stock Nexus S gives 1200 to 1300 in Quadrants and the Atrix gives 2800 COMPLETELY STOCK? Super Saturated Amoled Screen? No thank you.
What makes it so great for you guys?
I prioritize battery life, data speed, customization, size in hand. With those considerations the Atrix disappoints.
It may be great for some, but im still tallying the list of what I can no longer do in giving up the nexus for the atrix. So I'm headed back
I'm not looking to piss off folk, but just see if others see it the same way. New is not always better, QED.

Umm what nexus s gives that stock stock I pull 1969 non 2978 on voodoo kernal and 2.3 works with the ui to speed things up a feature only in 2.3 not froyo and 2.4 will be even better witch you will need a atrix 2 to see 2.4 I bet.

Funny how your FULLY customize Nexus S needs all that to stand BESIDES the Atrix. And get your facts straights. 2.4 is Gingerbread. Which all new phones will see soon enough. Atrix I'm guessing even sooner.
I think it's just personal preference is all. I prefer the speed, display, screen size of the Atrix. It also absolutely smokes flash video. Speakers aren't tinny and have tons of clean volume which is a welcome change. Storage is also very nice, especially not having a small app storage. The fingerprint scanner is working perfectly for me and I find it easier to unlock my phone while taking it out of my pocket. Voice quality is a ton better for me as well. Gaming is way smoother than the N1 and multitouch is better.
Those are a few of the things that make is pretty great to me.

I dont own an Atrix (yet) but had a chance to experiment with the device.
Customization and size can be considered very similar to the nexus 1. Data speeds is got to do with the AT&T network, not the phone. And my guess is that the battery life also better.
The only disappointment is the screen as compared to the captivate (i own..). The amoled screen though saturated colors is still better than the Atrix. The angry birds on the Atrix had the colors very dull. (i mean very disappointing.) Also the brightness with the max setting is equi9valent to say 25% brightness on the Amoled. But maybe thats bcoz i have got used to the captivate screen.
Otherwise the phone is super fast and responds very well. Quality is far better than the captivate.
Ah for nexus s its 2.3 gingerbread and the atrix wont taste icecream like the nexus s will good luck with even tasting 2.4 and roms fat chance #smh but enjoy moto helo moto

still testing it out and i think its too soon to say i'll switch... but if xperia arc is available within 30 days i might be tempted... and my backup would be HTC Inspire 4g
so far my issues are battery life, moto blur, locked bootloader, data speed, some unsupported apps (due to resolution) and random lag
what i like is the weight, screen resolution, hdmi out, duo core speed, speed and of course more speed... I also like the "idea" of the accessories like the laptop dock, but will probably never purchase one
I'm sure the battery life will get better after a few charges, it is the first day after all and possibly with a firmware or two the data rates will improve as well.
If I do return it will be on the 30th day so I can get the full feel of the atrix express before I make a final decision
Just my two cents

My battery life is MUCH better on the Atrix than the Inspire was for me. Ringer/notification volume is loud and clear vs the Inspire as well. I can set the phone down in the car and hear nav instructions easily even with music playing in the car. Flash video plays pretty well on the Inspire, but it gets smoked by the Atrix. I also love the docks such as the car dock. It's amazing how much easier it is to use in the car with a custom dock.
Battery life is better on the Atrix. I'm coming from a Nexus One.
The touch sensor on the N1 is also garbage. Typing on the Atrix is much improved.
720p video quality is much improved, although grainier than my Captivate.
Atrix loads faster than Nexus One.
I would rate the Atrix a "fair" upgrade. Just fixed some things about the N1 that I grew tired of.
P.S. Crippled upload is a bummer considering the front facing camera.

Atrix overated

Ive had the Atrix now for a few days and honestly its overrated. Its stutters alot when i have the live wallpaper on.
Even games ....they look better... like samurai and backbreaker but they still stutter like on other android phones.
Tegra 2 as of Now is nothing special. I thought the OS would be faster but its not. Blur stinks
The reviews said this was a FASSSSSSSSSSSSTTTTTTT phone. Ummm compared to what? My friends iphone seems faster, smoother and honestly better..
I think im getting rid of it , at best ill hold onto it till iphone 5 comes out. nyone else diapointed or expected more?

You must be on drugs if you think the iphone 4 is faster than the Atrix. I have an Aria, iphone 3gs and I had a Craptivate for a while. My wife has an Evo that I use for side by side comparison along with the 3gs. The Atrix is faster than all of them even when the Evo is overclocked. It's not even close epecially rendering web pages and scrolling through photos is buttery smooth. The Atrix plays flash videos that look like a slideshow with the Evo and Craptivate. You can't even watch those videos with an iphone 4. The Atrix also has better battery life than the other phones I've mentioned. I went 42 hours after the first full charge.

Inspire is NOT faster than the atrix! I had both and used them to compare many things. Inspired is fast but the atrix shines on somewhat more intense apps/games. As far as the iPhone 4, it is fast. But I'm bored with the OS! One hardware button is old and dumb. Iphone 5 will be nice but if they keep that small screen I will never go back.
The isnpire would have been a keeper if it wasn't for the low volume on EVERYTHING. That at the poor battery life it had to go back. I do miss it though!
i would think the atrix specs should really kick as5 but looks as tho its getting mixed reviews.
i wouldnt say the atrix is over rated, i think its expectations might of.
what do i know as i dont own one or have had the opportinity to try one but the atrix is one of top phones i was considering get if i decide to get a new phone..
The problem with the Atrix vs Inspire is that you're comparing a phone with GPU acceleration (thank you HTC) to a phone without it (no thanks to you Moto).
Atrix will be awesome around November 2011, when it finally gets Ice Cream.
Yeah I guess. I have 4 months to wait and see and HOPE it gets better.
i totally dont agree. I have had the Atrix, Inspire, Captivate, (HD2 etc)
this is by far the slickest, fastest and best devive I have ever had. No stutter, good screen, great video and camera, great battery life, fantastic sound quality. Totally a keeper for me (FINALLY!)

I had an iPhone 4, and I liked it. However, I love the android experience. That being said when ATT decided to step up their android game, I was eager. I got the inspire on launch because I am impatient. For a little I thought I would keep it, because generally it was an all around great phone. What it came down to (in the short run) is the battery life. I wanted a high tech phone I could play with and enjoy. The Atrix is just that. I don't have any issues you retarts are complaining of. the display is nice, the battery is huge, the phone is fast, (motoblur does kind of stink, but ADW launcher is really nice/is the default for the cyanogen mods so thats cool)... overall, rules. Captivate is great after installing certain roms which I have done. I had the inspire for a week and couldn't justify spending the full retail price for a larger screen and the ability to run aosp cm7. Yes the build quality far exceeds my captivate, but it didn't offer enough to warrant me keeping it. I have zero hate for the atrix its still just a phone after all. I actually am considering buying it and if I don't see enough reasons to keep it, then ill simply return it. There are some serious devices slated for this year and we will see some incredible tech and just like any other phone it too will be outdated very quickly.
I love the phone and I think the network is the issue here ...

If the 3D is locked down the way they say it is, flashaholics will either have to go through rehab, or get another maker's phone that isn't so locked down.
Yes. If the 3D is locked down. Coupled with Sammys new desire to change their bad rep.. with the Galaxy S looking to be one of the first phones officially Upgraded to GB. This phone is looking SO much better.
I just REALLY hope it doesn't have a crappy physical keyboard. I want it just the way it is. Sammy phones also have excellent battery life right out the box so waiting for a solid root method/custom roms/kernels won't be an issue.
3D is a gimmick at best. If the Samsung's battery life is significantly better than that of the EVO 3D, I'll have no choice. For me, personally, performance, battery life, and display quality are the most important things on a smartphone. The SII was overclocked to 1.5GHz yielding 4000+ Quadrant scores. That's impressive. The battery life is also pretty good coming from some reviews. I feel the 3D feature and camera on the new EVO will guzzle that battery. And I don't care how good qHD is, that Super AMOLED Plus 4.3" screen is pure sex. The slimness of the SII doesn't hurt either. I don't know about you, but I'm somewhat over my EVO's shape/style... hoping for something different and the EVO 3D doesn't really offer that.

While I agree about the 3D portion being a gimmick. It won't be killing the battery unless you're using it.. which is optional. I doubt people that think of it as a gimmick will use it much.
I am 100% with you on your points tho. Performance, battery life, display quality are most important. Samsung repairing their rep is also really starting to win me over. My mom has the mesmerize... that thing looks awesome and has excellent battery life. Plus she is about to get a GB update...
I love HTC.. but I just feel liek the new Sense 3.0 will bring the same poor battery life even with a bigger battery. It may be a little better.. but prolly not much. If the bootloader is encrypted.. then forget about it.

That is the determining factor for me, if it does have a physical keyboard then count me out.

Sadly, I agree with you.
I somehow don't think it will tho. The commercial I seen on youtube was showing off how thin it was by sliding it under a door... I would hope they don't plan on killing that by adding a keyboard.

So I'm really reconsidering the EVO 3D now.

What about this is "OFFICIAL"? Is it that it's coming to Sprint or the name? I read the link but didn't see an official source, sorry if I missed that.
I dont care if the 3D is locked down or not this will be my next phone. Thats all I needed to hear.

It's a picture of a case with it naming Sprint as one of the carriers for their device.... can't get much more official except for Sprint coming out and admitting to it

I made a case for it and it's going to be called the Samsung DooDooHead.
Official?
I'm pretty sure this will not have a physical keyboard, look at the case. Case in point (pun intended).

This is one tempting phone. If it comes with no keyboard then that is my next phone. Pending a few months after release to see reviews and reliability on this sexy beast.
Nexus S looks so old now.....

My next phone will either be this or the Nexus 3 depending on where it goes and when.

I'd take this over the 3d. HTC seems to always have battery issues with every phone, and I know they did with every phone I or a friend has had. Couple that with a locked down bootloader and this guy is going SGII (as long as the build quality is good).

There is no physical keyboard, the phone is just 0.33 inches thick (Evo is 0.47"). You just had to click the link in the first article and you get a full review of the phone:

Yes, it was the same way on the Galaxy S 1. Once it came to the US, each major carrier got a different version. Verizon/Us Cellular looked about identical with AT&T varying only a little.
As we know, the Sprint Epic 4G was the bastard child of the galaxy S line... horrible.

just upgraded!

i just got off the phone with Sprint.. I upgraded to the S from an EVO.. anyone on sprint with one? any issues? etc.. the camera on my evo SUCKED .. never was good..
anywho.. thanks!
ck
ummm... do some reading on here.
besides radio signal issues on some of the handsets (some users don't experience it), i like pretty much everything about the ns over the evo. the camera doesn't shoot 720 like the evo does, but somehow it looks a lot better.
oh yes, welcome!
I came from an EVO as well. Besides the known issues like signal I am loving things phone. EVO feels like a brick after using this.
cool.. well my camera sucks.. so.. anything would be an improvement..
Upgraded from the hero. No signal issues in my area. Its a greaaaat phone IMO
yeah, I too came from an Evo and having no issues... phones faster, better battery, better screen, lighter, less bloatware-y, etc... glad I upgraded
it's a great phone, it will be better once they resolve the signal issues that are plaguing most users.
I switched to the NS4G from the EVO 4G as well and not one regret here. Luckily I am not having the signal strength problem. The people on the EVO forum that think that just because the processor is the same speed as on the EVO that it is not an upgrade. I disagree. The hardware in the NS4G is much better than the EVO and this thing boots in mere seconds. GPU intensive gaming is amazing compared to the EVO, and seriously the only thing I miss about the EVO is the larger screen, but believe me the higher resolution on the NS4G and the super amoled screen make up for the size difference. It is slimmer, lighter, faster, better battery life and just an all around better phone. I hope you like it as much as I do.

Good points, but fyi, it's the same resolution as the Evo.

Yeah I notice it. Its because it has a better sleep policy...I notice that it turns 4g to idle when not in use.
I just upgraded from a Samsung Moment which is one of the worst phones in the history of phones. I'm not used to having a GPS get a lock in under 5min and no data lock-ups randomly. Plus the battery life on the Moment is seriously the worst so even thought this phones doesn't have the best battery life, anything is an upgrade over the Moment. Only thing that sucks is the radios are not strong in the Nexus S and hope they fix it soon.

Yeah same resolution but is smaller screen so it looks better, and the amoled makes the evo look washed out.
Anyways I came from the evo, and I like it so far GPU is better and for some reason it feels faster then the evo, the hummingbird processor is better then the evo's processor, the camera takes better pics and even in the dark it works better then the evo even tho it doesn't have touch to focus, 720p wasn't a big deal I use my videos to sent by email and 720p were too big, I got a point to shoot the records 720p /60fps for that, no radio problems here, mmm what else? ?? Oh yeah the speaker in the back seems to be less loud then the evo but the speaker up front (the one you use to.make calls) is really good, 4G seems to kill battery faster but that's something that I would expect but it does kill battery slower then the evo (you won't notice unless you have measure time on both, GPS seems to lock 2-5 seconds while the evo lock GPS really quick, overall I'm happy with the NS4G and I can't wait to get Ice cream this fall/winter

I also upgraded from the Evo and I am very happy with the Nexus S. The whole phone feels snappier and smoother. I'm getting 65fps on fps2d compared to 50 with the evo. The first few days when I got it it kept irritating me because it couldn't keep a wifi signal very well, but then I remembered that by default wifi turns off when you turn the screen off, so changed to never turn off and now it always stays connected. This is def. an upgrade from the Evo.

Congrats on your Nexy! Hopefully you don't have any problems with reception like a few people had around here. I for one, have no issues with signal and absolutely love the performance of this device.

I get the best battery life with 4G on while steaming music and running 25 widgets while manually syncing every 10 seconds with GPS locating.

compared to the evo you should get a day when actually using the phone. Not the look my phone got a three days when getting three sms and five minute phone call.
The dev support was amazing on the evo. But no one (well for me) could stop my evo from draining battery draining like a sieve
