So a friend has ah HD2 where his old colleague flashed Android, dualboot. This was maybe around Feb. Now he wants a newer version on as the froyo version hes got drains battery fast and wants a new rom.
Ive never flashed a HD2 befor but have done other phones incl hero, desire, desire hd, o2x, sgs2.
Now this looks confusing with dual booting mode with nand, magldr, clk etc but given instructions I should be fine
So how would I update hes existing Android version to say miui?
Can I delete winOS totally and have Android?
Possible of completly bricking phone beyond repair?
Any recommendations etc
Thanks
It's dualbooting Android and WinMo 6.5 or WP7?
Oh. Well, it doesn't make a difference. Find a SD build, download, on SD delete Android folder, unpack new one in place of his old Froyo, ta-dah. Done. No chance of bricking, no playing with clk/magldr or anything.
I hope he made a backup of his stuff.

No, it does not delete wm6.5 completely if you are running android from the sd card. If you wish to keep wm6.5, install a new android sd rom like you did previously. The dev of new rom will most likely state whether the data.img is compatible coming from another rom.

I didn't flash his phone, it was his ex colleague. He asked if its possible, to completely remove Wimp and just have Android. Is this possible with miui?
Sure. You will have to install magldr or clk, flash a new radio probably and HSPL.
Then find a NAND build that suits you best and follow the instructions to install it.

How would I know if its magldr or clk? Also after deleting winOS is possible to comeback anyhow as a failsafe?
If there is just pure WinMo 6.5, there is no magldr or clk yet. You have to choose which one would be better.
OK. If you want to install Android and ONLY Android, clk would be better. If you wanted to have WP7 or WP7 + Android, you would have to choose magldr. But you don't, so clk is a better option.
It's VERY easy to come back after failing something. Except installing a wrong radio to a wrong device, of course. Or if something is broken inside. And it's hard to fail anything anyway, but... well, is possible.
Ask any questions regarding these thing, I will try to explain you these things and show you tutorials. Of course, finding everything for yourself would save us both time and would be more rewarding, but don't worry, I will not bite you.

Don't quote me on this, but from what I've heard HSPL2/3 indeed are not required, but if you somehow screw up your phone without them, you're basically ****ed. HSPL2/3 should always (well, most of the time) be able to revert you back to stock.

You don't need to upgrade HSPL at all. What you must have (100% MUST!!) is a radio version 2.08 or later (2.x.50 versions, NOT 2.x.51 versions).
Until the recent release of the official 3.14 ROM there was no other way to upgrade the radio to the minimum required other than custom flashing, which requires a HSPL upgrade. (Not 100% sure that 3.14 was the first, but I believe it was).
Either way, it's the radio that's crucial to Android - not HSPL.
(I ain't no Android chef or dev - this is just gleaned from what I've read on this forum, so may not be 100% accurate, but it's never failed for me.)
ok, mine Radiois 2.15.50.14, so that means i don`t need to update radio, rom is 3.14.479.2(wwe) it`s stock one...
I have another question then: after installing android on sd card, is there any changes made to stock wm rom or else? or it`s just installing android on sd, and after formating sd card everything will be stock? thnx...

Nothing else to do - just copy the android folder to your card and then run the 2 apps (clrcad & haret). Personally, I use a bootloader that runs with Windows, so when I reboot my phone I get the option to run Android or "run" Windows. (Windows is obviously already running at that point. It just closes the app if you select Windows.)
You don't need to format your card to go back to your current config. Just reboot your phone and don't run Android.

rather than start a new thread, i have a supplementary question.
It's hard to search for this question, so apologies if it's been covered.
Is it better to run a stripped down custom WM ROM to boot android? or will a stock WM ROM (with the correct radio etc.) run Android just as good?
Does it make a difference?
(I just got a stock HD2 with 3.14 ROM and 2.08.50... radio...)
Hi. i bought an htc hd2, but i did not like windows, so my brother installed android on it. i belive it is MDJ evo ROM, but i dont know what radio i am using.
-anyway, i noticed android is using about 70% of my battery, is this normal? (my older android phone used like 10%) does changing rom help?
1. If i want to change my rom, all i have to do is replace my old one on the SD card?
2. If i backup using titanium, how do i get the restore-file on my new rom?
3. a friend of mine is buying hd2. do he need to flash hes phone to be able to install android? ive read a "definitive guide to android" here on the forum, but from a "new user" standpoint its kinda hard to understand.
So it is:-flash phone, -install rado, -drag/drop android on sd card?

1: Yes, Android is contained in it's own folder on the SD Card, if there's nothing else you wish to carry over to the other build, format the card and put the new build on, then boot in the usual way.
2: titanium backup creates a folder called rather unsurprisingly "TitaniumBackup" on the root of the SD card, copy that over to the new build, install Titanium and select restore and it will give you a list of options to reinstall. Google for the wiki on the program and it goes into a lot more detail about how to do all the steps.
3: Yes, pretty much. Although some users will tell you that you'll need a newer SPL version, so long as you're using the latest stock winmo rom the spl is not needed and radio also get's updated along with it, then it's just a case of booting android.

HaRet is the hardware emulation invoker for Android to boot. ClrCAD is the audio part of android as well, you need to boot clrcad, then haret on all builds else you'll get no audio.
Lots of roms now have dual boot options, they are just an automatic clrcard/haret loader and some come built into roms, yes. Else they are just a cab file you can install yourself.
Hello everyone,
As far as I see, HD2 can run five different OSes: WM6.5, WP7, Android, Ubuntu and MeeGo.
Is it possible (under certain circumstances such as a huge SD card is required) to boot all these OSes on one device (just like my Macbook boots OSX 10.6, 10.7, Ubuntu and Windows)?
If it is, I'm definitely buying HD2 instead of iPhone 4.
Thanks,
~ Vladislav Korotnev
no, cos winmo and wp7 will only run from the nand, and you can only have one of them on nand at a time. Best option in my limited view would be forget wp7, put winmo on nand, and android, ubuntu and meego on sd card.
Four out of five aint bad.
Thanks for a fast reply.
That would be nice! But if I install WP7, I can get WM back on NAND anytime, right? Cool!
Yes, you can.

Hello again,
Sorry to bump this old thread, but i don't wanna clutter the forum with a lot of similar threads by the same author.
I've reviewed all the Android firmwares for HD2 i could find and decided to use Android from NAND.
Will i be able to boot ubuntu from an SD card via a bootloader from Android, not WinMo?
Also, could anyone please point me to a basic installation instruction for Android on HD2 in NAND?
Sorry to bother you.
Thanks
Glad to see you bought your HD2!
You can boot ubuntu from nand android using
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1025499
Or debian from nand android
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1029390
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1095726
But to get USB host to work we have to wait for further developments.
Unfortunately Meego is not yet available on HD2 as stated in your first post.
However, TOP people are on the case, and things can change overnight.
ACA have a brand new nand android (other products are available!), check install instructions of your chosen build.

Not with that HSPL; flash HSPL3 and you should have 2.08 which should work perfectly. You flashed HSPL4 which is only better for certain Winmo roms. Use this.

Hi guys,
Id like to run Android on my HTC HD2, so I think Im in the righ forum.
There are however some confusing points. I get confused with all those different abbreviations and programs. Could someone please clarify, what kind of programs we use, what the difference is and so on... I know that there are two ways: by SD card and internal rom... Whats better/the difference?
What does HSPL, CLK, NAND, MAGLDR and CWM stand for, why do I need those programs?
Dont worry: I've used the search function and read some tutorials, but they are all just for one particular way, and not the other... Id just liek to get the basics, so that I can then decide...
Thanks!

HSPL = When you bought your phone, it was showingspl. After you have unlocked you phone, it will show HSPL. This means that you can flash anything you want.. What hspl simply does is edit security_1 to security_0
CLK and MAGLDR - two different bootloaders. You need these to flash an android rom.
NAND - A "place" on your phone where android is saved.
CWM - Clockworkdmod, a "thing" that's needed to flash android (.zip's)
Tried to explain it in the easiest way, I hope it helped
Also try SD Android before playing with NAND version - you may just dislike it and you won't lose time spent on flash ;-)
SD Android is slower than nand version, but if you want android just for play angry birds etc. - would be enough. Great for beginners - you won't mess anything in device.
Hey guys,
thanks that helped a lot, esp. the answer of yz.hd!
Additional questions:
1. Whats the difference between the bootloaders CLK and MAGLDR? Is one better? Do they have different prerequisits/uses?
2. I dont need CWM for all android ROMs, right? Just for special ones? Is there a program for other ROMs? Does CMW have a special advantage?
Thanks so much!

1. MAGLDR allows you to have more control over how you boot your roms, it allowas you to run a Nand Android rom, or boot from sd, or boot a WP7 rom if you have it installed. It also allows you to boot to CWR (as well as play a kick ass game of tetris ).
CLK gives more of a "stock" android experience as your phone will not have to boot MAGLDR first, when you turn it on it boots strait to Android just like a native phone. You can also reboot right to CWR and you can charge the phone while off which is something MAGLDR currently lacks.
2. If you are going to go Nand and are using CLK or the CWR is a must as all Android Nand roms are flashed this way. It also allows you to backup and restore your rom before making changes so you can go back right where you were if you make a mistake.
Ok, thanks again.
I believe Id like to flash Android (Ice Cream sandwich) to NAND. Using CLK. Also install CWM and CWR, for this nice recovery feature.
Could you point me to the newest/best versions of those programs for a clean install?
- Android ROM, ICS, without any additions like filemanager etc. if possible
- CLK
- CWM and CWR
Great help here, guys!

PS: Also, I read something about not having enough space on the phone for apps. As I usually install apps (in WM 6.5) to SD anyway, this is not an issue for me. However, do I need something special in Android to install to SD or can I easily choose as in WM 6.5?
After several days struggle, I'm burned out. Some of the threads here have 100+ pages, and searches yield too much outdated, irrelevant info. So, I'm asking for some direction (as simple as possible, please).
I'm trying to set up my unlocked HD2 (originally T-Mo, but unlocked and using AT&T) for dual-boot, WM6.5 and Android. As you know, the choices for android rom are mind-boggling. I don't need anything fancy, just something up-to-date and stable. I would like, however, something LOUD.
Here's what I've tried so far:
Using despy1989's March 2010 guide (four years old already!), I have my HD2 booting up asking to choose Android or WM. If I choose Android, it does nothing, and defaults to WM.
I have SUNDAWG-CM7-NATIVESD rom loaded (or I think I do) in the android directory of the SD card. I'm not sure this one will meet my LOUD requirement, but since it won't load, I can't tell.
If I tap the new Android icon, it does nothing. If I tap the Android SoftReset icon, it resets but does not load Android, goes to WinMo.
If I go to File Explorer, and run haret, I get the message "failed to load file \storagecard\android\sdcard\nativesd\zimage"
What do I do next?
ANY help is much appreciated.
How did you installed Android as NativeSD? Did you made a partition on your SD in EXT4 which is needed for installing the Rom? Why you want keep WM 6.5 anyway?

AFAIK, yes it is installed as NativeSD, Did not make a partition (there was conflicting advice as to whether it was necessary. I'm not ready to go "all in" and reformat my old SD card yet.)
Want to keep WM6.5 since it is the only one that works the way I need. I've been playing with a Sony X10a with Android 1.6 and am frustrated. I specifically need LOUDNESS and customizable ringtones and notifications, and relatively easy syncing with my PC.
Thanks for your reply and any further advice.
If you do not make a partition EXT4 it will never be installed so you just messing around that is why is not working. From WM6.5 can be run only SD Android version or there is another way, much longer but it's the way how it have to be.
Install MAGLRD and Recovery, probably this will wipe the phone, make the partition on SD to Install NativeSD, Install the Rom as Native SD. Then flash back the Stock WM6.5, this will wipe MAGLRD and Recovery. Now start again Android from the folder created from the installation. It should boot.

I did this 100 times and HD2 is not that easy to brick, I never heard about bricked HD2 before. Then if you don't want to do it you will never have NativeSD on your phone because the NativeSD have to be installed on EXT4 partition, there is no other way. The only Android which you can use is from this section HERE. Put it on SD with other stuff and run with the application from WM6.5. First boot is very long.

No, wipe (task29) won't even touch SPL parts.
So, unless you're super duper unlucky using wipe command, you won't bricking your device.

Been trying to follow your steps, but when I get to "Native SD Install Recovery", the links are broken. (this is the very kind of frustrations I'm having - there does not appear to be one single step-by-step guide without numerous links to invalid or outdated sites. I don't need advertising either.)
I can't find the 4EXT partition (in W8.1) in order to install anything.
So, now what?
