Blew my SGS2 up... - Galaxy S II General

couldnt believe it. had my phone since day release and loved it so much, been using CM7 since 1st nightly and i plugged it into my hifi to play some music and as soon as i pluged the headphone jack into the phone it fried it lol.. everytime i plugged my batt into the phone it instanly got very hot.. no screen nothing. tried using jig but no luck.. just a major hot phone around the camera and screen.
took it to be repaired under manafacture warranty...
just cant beleive it!

I feel sorry for you, man.
Something similar happened to me a few days ago, after a buggy shutdown phone got really hot.
Luckily I've touched it before it fried so I removed the batt and let it cool down, scary as hell!

Oh my GOD!If that had happened to me,I'd have gotten a heart attack,a stroke and my balls would fall from the rest of my body!I am really sorry man.
And I am overclocked at 1.6GHz...Jesus!

Thread was a dissapointment.. Was hoping for a story about you being a demolition guy and had left your phone by the tnt and accidently blew it up
But anyway, Unlucky dude, Do you have it rerpaired yet?

So they got you covered, even while you have CM7 installed. Will they like that? I'd really expect them to ignore the whole custom firmware aspect. Maybe the hardware is this damaged, they can't check that.

well they will never know.. its proper ****ed tbh... just dead..i reackon myhifi some how pumped voltage thru to the phone and blew up some resistors or sumut on the phone.
i made sure after i realised i couldnt get anything from the phone that they wouldnt get it fixed as i cooked it to make sure... i left batt in and charger to fry it even more to make sure...
+ tnh honest its hardware related.. cant see why even if they could find out jtagging it they would blame a rom for the cause...

Mine had i problem with the usb.
The S2 kept thinking it was charging which kept the wifi on and caused mayor battery drains.
Luckily I got the phone back to stock when it was a bit stable on the usb and could send it back after doing the jig connect.
Got repaired in 1 1/2 week

Whoops!! I finally had to send it to be fixed!!

Oh well I had to finally send away my Galaxy S to be fixed I managed to break the "Home" button so when I flashed a stock rom I couldn't reboot the phone from that menu,,
And also managed to royally screw up something in it,, which meant I had absolutely no phone coverage in areas which have full 3g signal........... Hmmmmm me thinks I did something to corrupt the EFS files on my phone.....
Oh well!!
4 days without the phone (Bank Holiday due to it being Paddy's Day)
Hopefully they will do it on the warranty!!
lol you must be heavy thumbed lol
Nah my phone get quite a bit of use,, the joys of having an unlimited everything price plan one my phone,, and a few "accidental" drops! hahah ah well these things happen like,, and now I've had to revert to using either the Wave I have or the X6,, depends on my mood tho,,

Just got my repaired unit back from samsung

sent it in for the newton ring repair last week and got it back today, same tablet and they replaced the screen......my tablet came with an unlocked bootloader and they sent it back with an unlocked bootloader.....wondering if i should have even unrooted it in the first place
you do realize that you couldve fixed the issue by putting it in the freezer or bend the back a little bit. unlocked boot loader doesnt do much..

OMG REALLY? NO WAY.....THANKS SO MUCH
of course i knew that, but after putting it in the freezer 10 times, blowing into the port 50 times and attempting to bend it out, i got tired of having to do it every 20 minutes.
Tricks like putting it in the freezer only help temporarily (yes, there may be exceptions - but for most people it does not help).
I had the problem and it was away temporarily after the freezer but it came back and got bigger and bigger.
Only a replacement of the screen with a good one can really help.
I got mine repaired and its fine now.

In my opinion better to get it replaced than all these temp fixes. Why wouldn't you when you have warranty and it's free. I agree it is a hassle not having the tab for around 10 days but for long term it makes sense.

Hell no! Samsung needs to rectify that nonsense. This, unfortunately, is why Apple has 70% of the tablet market. No one should have to screw around with putting their tab in the freezer to temporarily fix a design flaw.
You know what's funny?
If I wouldn't be a xda member I wouldn't read how to fix it myself, I'd just go to the shop either return it or replace or ask for repair.... Just like every normal user would do and just like every apple fanboy would do

No insurance on the phone? I was going to say get a replacement screen on ebay but I just checked the prices and my god its not worth it.
Would probably be worth keeping it. Parts prices will fall in the next few months and could replace the screen pretty cheaply if you hold on to it.
Why did you not ask this question in the other thread you started?

save it for a rainy day. spare battery or whatever isnt damaged. i dont see the need to start a thread to help make a decision about something that does not help anyone else on XDA.

I get that, but I posted late at night and got up the next morning to a lynch mob, its not like I abandoned the thread. I claimed it as lost, It fell off on a very busy road and I wasnt to keen on trying to stop traffic to get it. On the way home it had worked its way closer to the side of the road and traffic was a lot lighter so I decided to venture out (mainly just to see if my SD made it). I had already made the claim though as lost, since I didnt plan on trying to retrieve the phone.

Depends on how dead your S2 is.
My S2 was running CM9 when it died. And when it died, it died totally. No response whatsoever, even when plugging in the USB charger. In this case, I believe Samsung has no way of knowing whether I was running a custom ROM or not.
In the end my S2 was replaced free of charge. I even got a free screen change (I pointed out the infamous bright band at the top due to uneven burn out), and a new battery. Props to Samsung. Apple would probably have wanted to rape my wife and sell my firstborn into slavery.
Im sorry about your loss I think mines on its way too... its slowly going:angel:

I should clarify that the motherboard was replaced. However seeing as they also changed the screen (confirmed due to the bright band at where the notification bar would be), I wonder why they didn't just give me a brand new phone. I can tell that the chassis was still my old one due to the presence of my screen protector.

I really do look after my phone n in disbelief i said put new screen in i want to know it works before i pay... A few day later they rung n said the mother board was damaged.(not under warranty of course) argued my case they gave a quote for screen etc etc. Ending up payin £120 had new screen n motherboard when device returned camera didnt work n was fuming as this took 3month in total. So replaced that myself. Never will i send another phone to them.

[Q] can't be heard

Well, just this week nobody can hear me when I make calls or they call me.
I've had my phone work perfect since September 2nd when I bought from Verizon.
It runs 4.4.4 totally stock. Tried clearing out the microphone port and only helped a tad.
Is there a way to fix it without a return exchange?

You said U R running totally stock. What's the pain of a hard reset? Backup appz and it's a snap to restore phone to pre-wipe state. I have odined back to stock, gone through the whole process to root again and restore everything a couple of times now. If anything, that would be considered a pain but it really ain't chit ...
You can be sure that's prolly the first thing the rep is gonna try in the store before giving you a new phone.

If there is a problem might be best to go through Samsung for a repair instead of Verizon to just get a refurbished device. That's what I'd do.
Before you reset/return...take your battery out for 10 min. or so...and then restart your device...maybe the battery voltage or calibration is causing the speaker interference...it's worth a shot.

Well I think it was the battery. The microphone seems to work now. Did 3 voice recordings. All of them came out crystal clear with and without background noise.
Good to hear...it wouldn't hurt to purchase a new charger too.
I'm gonna hang on to the charger, its the first offical charger I've had in awhile. My DINC, nexus and gs3 all burned through their real charger oddly quick. I think its the weather where I'm from its been 111°-120°f for all of September
