[Q] February Telus Update

Hey was just wondering if anyone on the Telus network recieved the update yet?
I am on TELUS with LG Win 7 phone and wanted to make sure they aren't being blocked by my carrier as Microsoft said they might be for some networks. I've checked through Zune and still nothing I know it's only been two days but I'd rather know now if I have to start finding another solution to get updates. If anyone has recieved a notification or knows anything about it let me know thanks

I did not get anything either. I have a feeling a lot of carrier based phones haven't got them yet, and I doubt a lot of them are blocking it.
Edit: I stand corrected according to wmpoweruser It seems like telus hasn't pushed any updates but this can be due to the whole samsung fiasco delaying things.

Any chance you can send me a link to that page would love to see what's going on.

it was an informal poll, just people leaving comments saying they had or hadnt gotten it.
I just spoke with a telus rep who wasn't able to tell me anything more about if/when the update would be available (I was on hold while he contacted "the technical team").
The only piece of information I got (which was assumed ... by me anyways ) was that unlike the old system where Telus paid OEMs to create the updates the wp7 updates are "free" to the carrier.

March 1 and still no update. I think Telus is skipping this one. The Telus rep I called didn't even know Telus carried any Windows phones and thought I meant the iPhone, so you can imagine how long that phone call lasted.

The 7008 update is now available for Telus customers. Here's news for the 7389 update (NoDo);
The earliest date that a TELUS customer can receive the Windows Phone 7 software update is Tuesday March 29th, 2011. Microsoft is releasing the software update in a phased approach and it may take up to four weeks for all TELUS customers to have the option to receive the update and upgrade their device software.

The one thing I noticed after updating my phone is that it did not do a backup of it. (There was only 9 steps done on the update process) I thought that the pre-nodo update was supposed to make a backup of your phone.

[Q] Samsung Focus Update

Has anyone done the update yet?
I can't seem to find anything that is related to the Focus update (other than the Omnia 7 fiasco)...so I was wondering whether or not I should update when Zune prompts me to...?

I did some research after I posted and I found only a few articles so I wasn't absolutely sure.
Eitherway, I did the update and had zero issues.

Are you on ATT?

anyone not getting update notification on either the phone and/or Zune software?
I bought my phone over a week ago from the ATT store here Georgia. never recieved the previous buggy update notification, and still have not recieved the new bugless pre-update. even with it connected to Zune it says my phone is up to date. 7.0 (7004)

I'm on Rogers in Canada.

There is a rumor that ATT is not rolling out the pre-NoDo update. Can anyone confirm this or has anyone updated their windows phone (focus or otherwise) through att?

how is the update scheduled? Per region ? or carrier? What about if my unit is an AT&T Samsung Focus and I am using it on a different carrier, how will I get the update? Will At&T has the ability to block it? even sim card inserted is not At&t? I read that it will be pushed, but I never got any notifications at all.

AT&T has not approved the first update. Focus owners will need to wait for the No-Do update now which will be released pretty soon anyways.

No update here. Samsung Fucus. Washington DC. Purchased first day available.

The first minor update was held back intentionally as some users reported it was causing some issue.
It was rolled out again this week, but apparently there are issues again.

I just received mine this morning after notification late yesterday. I plugged in the phone to laptop this morning and it seems to be intalling the minor update. I am on FIDO in Canada with Rogers Samsung Focus.
EDIT: OS Version after update reads 7.0.7008.0
The update took about 10 minutes.

What does the up-date fix?

I beleive this update is only for allowing better/faster install of future updates that actually have fixes or features that we are all waiting for (copy/paste) among other things (Internet Explorer 9, Flash).

Have an unlocked focus in Egypt and no update notifications whatsoever.

It was a rumor with no truth to it at all. I don't expect NoDo to be released to the carriers until at least the 15th (the day of the "big" announcement from Microsoft).

No update here either...AT&T

Reviewing that some International carriers are moving it on Samsung as quoted:

[Q] AT&T or any quantum user... Got the update yet?

I am just wondering if we are all in the same boat. I haven't received the notification, nor will it update if I plug it into zune... Why do I feel like the quantum is the bastard child of the wp7 lineup?

I did this to get the patch update (went from build 7004 to 7008), but no NoDo yet.

I figured there must be a "targeting" string or something in there somewhere.

I'm with Bell in Ontario, no NoDo for me.
I'm honestly not really expecting it. Like at all. I've lost pretty much all faith in MS.

I'm with Rogers here in BC, but using an unlocked AT&T branded phone.
No updates (either of them) have shown up, but I suspect it's because AT&T hasn't released them yet.
I think we'll eventually see the 'NoDo' release, but it might take a while as AT&T are notoriously slow in 'testing' new releases of the O/S...
Have to check out that 'unbranding' thread, tho (since I'm already 'unlocked' from AT&T)...

I feel like m$ screwed up by letting carriers doing testing. There is no way m$ could get carriers to release updates on time and together. AT&T has never had a good IT device department. it is like letting a baby be a contractor and expect a house to be built on time.

None of the AT&T US phones are supposed to get NoDo until May or so I think. It's because they're slow "testing".
I can confirm that the unbranding and using http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1012189 Method 1 works but is a bit tricky to get the timing right.

I went to wpcentral and followed the instructions for "NoDo update hack released--works for every device, every carrier right now" I now have version 7.0.7390.0. It was pretty easy just follow the instructions.

Hi guys... just wanted to let you know that I just got the NoDo update (7390) today through Zune on my 'unbranded' AT&T LG Quantum.
Took about 15 mins.

I just recieved an update message on my phone while it was connected to my computer. It said it was for the Feb Update.

Thanks, I tried the link. I ended up turning on airplane mode, then turned on my WIFI. THen I connected my Phone to Zune and looked for an update. About 20 secs I turned off the wifi and it updated to Nodo.
I still see the firmware was not changed and still dont see all the memory. The EM app is still the same.

And it still freezes with WiFi on. :-(

For all Dell Venue Pro users, a small warning. Using this technique your phone will identify itself as a European (unlocked) phone. Technically Microsoft should still see it as the Dell Venue Pro, but we all know that there is a difference between the European (Indian / Global) and US version of the phone. The first one has 512MB ram, while the latter only has 256MB (approx.).
So, identifying as a European version might not give you a firmware upgrade! Again, as the UK version has not yet been shipped, I can't be sure totally, but it does seem a plausible reason for the differences in 'firmware'. (Some users reported firmware upgrades, while others don't [see above].)

You have no poof of the "early" phones having 256 MB of RAM, do you?

Now finished with NoDo --- total time 9mins to 7390! Yipee!!!

In terms of changing the SD to 32GB, is it better to do so before the no-do update or after? Or does the update really not make a difference?

I doubt it makes a difference. I would definitely not try it during though

I have only gotten the pre-nodo update. Also i talked to a Dell mobility rep about a week ago, and she told me that the firmware update will correct the 512mb issue. She told me this was the root of all the issues.

Dell has confirmed (on Twitter) that NoDo is rolling out now and that a separate firmware update is coming later:

No I don't, but what I meant was that only 256MB is accessible (which we do know for sure). I'm still hoping (and I tent to believe so too) that there is actually 512MB in the device, but the firmware is 'wrong'.
However, the Europe / Global version of the phone has 512MB of RAM already available (different firmware?) and thus not need the same fixes as the US one. So forcing the global version of NoDo on your phone, might not always be a good idea. (I know that, for now, there is no indication that there is any fix from Dell in the NoDo and it might all work out. Still I would be cautious...)

Dell is making weird comments all the time, I would like to see that D2D post before I believe a fix is coming... First they said it would be rolled out with NoDo, now it comes later. Hopefully 'later' does not mean 'by the time the DVP2 comes out', but only time will tell.

I got an update yesterday but was the pre nodo I guess cause no dam copy paste. Oh well. I think its going in the drawer and will just use my Epic till mango arrives. I am over all this crap

I have the nodo, we now know it does not contain the firmware update(that is really what needed) to set my mms, as i had no problems with the phone before, no wifi issues or freezes, but in the 10hrs since going to nodo i have had to pull my battery twice because of freezing and yes it is faster...

You can get one fix but not both This is why the Dell Venue Pro specific update(most likely firmware) is still needed and will hopefully fix all of these issues(hopefully).
BTW, are you on Fido in Canada? If so, I did not know that Dell released a version of the DVP with Fido/Rogers frequencies.

[Q] Anybody rebranding for AT&T specific update??

Anybody thinking of reverting back, rebranding and getting the AT&T specific updates?? Kicking the idea around myself, Data="ATT-US" was the removed string... Please let is know if anybody goes this route...

I just did. Had to roll back to 7008, didn't have 7004. Hope it still works.

Think of doing the same just wanted to wait for someone to report if there are in fact anything different or was ATT just talking.

I'm curious about that too plus want to see if the Debranding then rebranding causes any issues with getting updates like the ones they are expecting for those who used the nodoupdatertools to get updates sooner then the rest..

well i did not do the chevron way i did the spoof way that was done at first so i do have a backup of my phone.

Not worth the wait (and sooo glad I did the VPN hack update)
Apparently the ATT exclusive *features* they are adding is a WISPr protocol that switches you to login into att wifi hotspots automatically when near one. To save you (and them) data bandwidth.
The other feature is to allow you to sync your contacts with your att address book. Even lamer.
So yes ATT made you wait this long for nothing.
Lesson learned. Always rely on the fans and community for support, not the ones you have a contract with.

Yes sir. I will not be rolling my girlfreinds phone back just to get the ATT update, waste of time, especially if you live in a small town and have NO hotspots...

lol same here. 1 starbucks and a few McDonalds...not worth it. plus i've been on ATT for 3 yrs now and still grandpa'd into the unlimited data usage plan...so no worries on data

I did revert to 7008 and re-branded my phone. I am not worried about ATT's feature. I more worried about firmware updates. I know Rodger's Focus had firmware updates.
I did have trouble with it at first. This post solved my problems:

Anyone realizing that ATT made us wait for a feature that switches us to their WiFi hotspots...unsecure open WiFi hotspots. Double stack stupid

There are AT&T-specific changes, and there are OEM-specific changes. I can live without the AT&T crap, but if Samsung has firmware or driver update included w/ the AT&T NoDo update, then you guys may be missing out on them...

If there are firmware updates of any importance for Samsung Focus phones I see two ways of getting them;
1. anyone who puchased their phones outside AT&T or any carrier(say on Amazon or retail store) I would think they would get the update through Zune or directly from Samsung seeing their phones are not "Branded" which is no different from our "debranded" phones..
2. Reverting back to 7008, use Samsung Registry Tool, rebranding AT&T and then getting NoDo with anything else AT&T is offering..

I'm curious about this comment -- where can you get an unbranded Samsung Focus because I have yet to find one? Do they have the AT&T logo displayed below the earpiece and does it have the AT&T apps/fluff pre-loaded? If so, then that's not an unbranded phone.

Your right, I didn't realize the unlocked Focus phones being sold outside of AT&T with no contracts still has AT&T label.. Learn something new everyday..*
Guess the revert to 7008, rebrand and update is the only option, not sure what's going to happen to those who used the ChevronNoDoUpdateTool though???

I doubt it, when MS asked Chris Walsh to pull the updater tool I got the feeling from comments by both MS & Mr. Walsh that both were going to look into a solution to correct the problem, let's face there is no way either MS or the Chevron team will let so many out in the cold on a new start up OS, there was something like 25,000 downloads of the tool..

Will people who got NoDo get this update?
I unbranded, updated, then rebranded.

My guess is your phone will be shown as Up To Date, I also imagine you can go into Zune and choose revert back to 7008 then you should be able to reupdate to AT&T's version.. Grant you this is only my opinion.. Going to be a interesting week for those who rebranded or used the Chevron Update Tool, especially with rumors of a upcoming Microsoft Update concerning Certificates..

I unbranded then updated via the VPN method then rebranded back. For some reason Zune isnt giving me the option to revert back so guess I will see what happens when they start rolling out the next updates.

I just connected my phone to Zune and it shows a Samsung update available. I am updating to it now. Looks like it saw I had the NODO then offered the samsung update.
