Hey was just wondering if anyone on the Telus network recieved the update yet?
I am on TELUS with LG Win 7 phone and wanted to make sure they aren't being blocked by my carrier as Microsoft said they might be for some networks. I've checked through Zune and still nothing I know it's only been two days but I'd rather know now if I have to start finding another solution to get updates. If anyone has recieved a notification or knows anything about it let me know thanks
I did not get anything either. I have a feeling a lot of carrier based phones haven't got them yet, and I doubt a lot of them are blocking it.
Edit: I stand corrected according to wmpoweruser It seems like telus hasn't pushed any updates but this can be due to the whole samsung fiasco delaying things.
Any chance you can send me a link to that page would love to see what's going on.

it was an informal poll, just people leaving comments saying they had or hadnt gotten it.
I just spoke with a telus rep who wasn't able to tell me anything more about if/when the update would be available (I was on hold while he contacted "the technical team").
The only piece of information I got (which was assumed ... by me anyways ) was that unlike the old system where Telus paid OEMs to create the updates the wp7 updates are "free" to the carrier.
March 1 and still no update. I think Telus is skipping this one. The Telus rep I called didn't even know Telus carried any Windows phones and thought I meant the iPhone, so you can imagine how long that phone call lasted.
The 7008 update is now available for Telus customers. Here's news for the 7389 update (NoDo);
The earliest date that a TELUS customer can receive the Windows Phone 7 software update is Tuesday March 29th, 2011. Microsoft is releasing the software update in a phased approach and it may take up to four weeks for all TELUS customers to have the option to receive the update and upgrade their device software.
Keep your smartphone running efficiently by using the latest available software.
The release of OS software 7.0.7389.0, provides the following benefits and enhancements for your smartphone.
Introduction of copy and paste functionality.

The one thing I noticed after updating my phone is that it did not do a backup of it. (There was only 9 steps done on the update process) I thought that the pre-nodo update was supposed to make a backup of your phone.
i have a telus lg optimus 7 unlocked and now on the sasktel network. my question is am i screwed for getting these updates because sasktel doesn't recognize the phone as one of there models and i am not on the telus network so they wont push it to me? i cant justify paying 400 bucks for a phone that i cant get the new updates the Microsoft rolls out.
If you do not get this update, you will get the next one (By mid March) definitely. Microsoft has confirmed that much. I contacted Telus, and it seems they have "no information to offer at this time". Basically, Telus is the only carrier in North America that has yet to offer update for their WP7 devices, but two weeks is not that long to wait, right? Especially considering that this update does...nothing, and all updates are cumulative.

I'm planning on giving Telus a few more days before complaining loudly, as the rollout was to be staged, so maybe they volunteered to be last on the list :|
Personally, I'm fairly concerned about this as Telus doesn't have the greatest record for updates in the past, and holding this back isn't a good sign (imho).
Even if this minor update is rolled into "no-do", there's no guarantee "mango" won't be an 'odd numbered' update, or that we won't be weeks behind others getting either/both.
From the windows phone team blog
(http://windowsteamblog.com/windows_...-answers-about-our-first-software-update.aspx)
Q: I still haven’t received an update notification yet. When can I expect it?
A: It’s hard to predict because it depends on many factors. It could be days—or even weeks—before you’re able to update your phone.

So as the rest of the world gets copy/paste, theoretically we telus users could just be getting the pre-nodo update.
I'm right there with you I had the same thought when I read that article. I don't understand why Rogers and Bell both have launched it but Telus hasn't I tweet'd customer service about it and they answered back they had no information about unreleased updates.
I am hoping that maybe Telus wanted to "save us" from the trouble of doing 2 updates in a fairly short period of time. At least we know that they can't block nodo. Out of curiosity does anyone know how Telus is with android updates?

I've been looking around all the standard places for more info but haven't come across anything. My fear is that the wp7 userbase on Telus is small enough that they don't consider us a priority.

I hope that we are considered a priority. I'll do my part and call and bug them maybe if everyone jumps on board we'll get this update.
i spoke to sasktel and they have already rolled out the patch on there network. but because my phone is telus branded and the zune software see the phone as telus it wont give me the update. sasktel does not recognize my phone for updates so i would assume that's because they don't sell the phone.
I'm in the same situation as you kazman. Have an unlocked Telus branded Optimus 7 running on the Bell network, and wondering if I'll get the update when/if Telus releases it.
Will report if I do.
I cannot believe we can't find a solution to get the update...
Like Android, installed custom ROM of WP7 to avoid carrier blocking.

So I emailed client care about the update, (your gonna love this)
"Hello Justin,
Thank you for taking the time to write to TELUS via e-mail.
Windows has not released any official updates yet. Please refer to the following link for details:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsphone/en-us/features/update-info.aspx
When an official update is released from the manufacturer, it's also posted on our equipment page specific to your phone:

Thank you for using TELUS' online service and have a great day."
So I have emailed back asking that he double check the site and not just send me to the page that tells people what the next update is but infact to check the update page (http://www.microsoft.com/windowsphone/en-us/howto/wp7/basics/update-history.aspx) Still waiting on an answer but it's great that they took the time to really look into it So I have emailed back and shown them the link and also shown them Bell and Roger's pages releasing it as well as a few carriers with the same phone (LG Optimus 7) that have released it. (because you know that's where they would go next) Will post results on here if I get them.
that is completely ridiculous. i called a telus store yesterday in Saskatchewan and she told me that they don't know about updates and recommended that i move the date on my phone ahead a year and i should get the update then. but she had just told me a minute ago that there where no updates. they need to get a clue.
So it seems like Telus just doesn't know what to do with updating the phone. I am a bit surprised and doubtful that Microsoft didn't tell them though. It just shows a huge lack of communication within Telus.
as I posted in the other thread, I talked to a telus rep who also no idea about the update; but was able to confirm they didn't have to pay MS for it, so we should be getting it.
I've got a 10 year old account with them and made it clear I would be willing to switch carriers if they dropped the ball.
Hopefully we can get enough people telling telus the same that they'll get their act together.
i would like to know why we cant just get the update from the zune software. and if a carrier such as telus hasn't released the update how does the zune software know not to offer you an update or does telus need to respsond to microsoft that the update is out on there network. how about a new rom from bell or rogers that would solve all our problems.

It's going to be something like that (e.g. telus tells MS it's approved, WinPhoneUpdate sets the flag to allow it).

I'd assume going to a differently branded rom would solve it, although that'd likely negate access to the telus app store. Another potential issue is that the telus optimus7 is a different model number from the european one. I have no idea which version the mexicans got so there may not even be a viable alternate rom. :|
An unfortunate truth
Look guys, this first update was OPTIONAL for carriers. It did not provide any new features and was just a test update before the real update in a week and a bit. Unfortunately for you guys, TELUS decided to not push this one in favour of just sending one update later. You shouldn't be upset at TELUS ... yet. I had an Android phone with them before and just about lost my mind over the update issue, but I think WP7 will be different because MS has more say than the OEMs do regarding Android. I feel bad that you guys are suffering, but it isn't really TELUS' fault.

That doesn't really disuade any concerns.
It's not just a test and no user visible features does not equal not necessary - think API changes before mango
My main fear is that something I'll deem critical will be in one of these minor updates, and telus will make me wait 6 months till the next major update instead of just pushing me the fix.

Just because I feel like nitpicking (I'm just being a smart-ass, don't take it seriously/personally ):
There are three "entities" involved in getting my phone updated
1) Microsoft - they've released the update, not their fault
2) Myself - I've connected to my computer and forced zune to check for updates, not my fault
3) Telus - They're not pushing the update for whatever reason ... pretty sure it's their fault
optional or not this still makes telus look bad when all other major carriers in canada are pushing this update but not telus.

There's a technical requirment that makes them unable to disclose when the update will become avalible... doesn't make too much sense but I do agree with all of you. It's not that I desperatly want this update or that it's really negativly effecting me in anyway, it's that I fear this pattern may continue on to updates that improve the phone. We'll see what happens in March hopefully Telus pulls it together or at least has a better answer then just because.
Has anyone done the update yet?
I can't seem to find anything that is related to the Focus update (other than the Omnia 7 fiasco)...so I was wondering whether or not I should update when Zune prompts me to...?
They are resuming the rollout.

Are you on ATT?
anyone not getting update notification on either the phone and/or Zune software?
I bought my phone over a week ago from the ATT store here Georgia. never recieved the previous buggy update notification, and still have not recieved the new bugless pre-update. even with it connected to Zune it says my phone is up to date. 7.0 (7004)
I'm on Rogers in Canada.
There is a rumor that ATT is not rolling out the pre-NoDo update. Can anyone confirm this or has anyone updated their windows phone (focus or otherwise) through att?
update?
how is the update scheduled? Per region ? or carrier? What about if my unit is an AT&T Samsung Focus and I am using it on a different carrier, how will I get the update? Will At&T has the ability to block it? even sim card inserted is not At&t? I read that it will be pushed, but I never got any notifications at all.

AT&T has not approved the first update. Focus owners will need to wait for the No-Do update now which will be released pretty soon anyways.
No update here. Samsung Fucus. Washington DC. Purchased first day available.
It's a rumor, but hopefully it comes true:
http://www.wpcentral.com/ATT-focus-get-pre-nodo-and-nodo-monday
The first minor update was held back intentionally as some users reported it was causing some issue.
It was rolled out again this week, but apparently there are issues again.
http://news.cnet.com/8301-1035_3-20039227-94.html
I just received mine this morning after notification late yesterday. I plugged in the phone to laptop this morning and it seems to be intalling the minor update. I am on FIDO in Canada with Rogers Samsung Focus.
EDIT: OS Version after update reads 7.0.7008.0
The update took about 10 minutes.

I beleive this update is only for allowing better/faster install of future updates that actually have fixes or features that we are all waiting for (copy/paste) among other things (Internet Explorer 9, Flash).
Have an unlocked focus in Egypt and no update notifications whatsoever.

It was a rumor with no truth to it at all. I don't expect NoDo to be released to the carriers until at least the 15th (the day of the "big" announcement from Microsoft).
No update here either...AT&T
Software version: still: vOS version: 7.0.7004.0
Reviewing that some International carriers are moving it on Samsung as quoted:
"I just updated WP7 here in Singapore.
LG Optimus 7.
OS version: 7.0.7004.0 to 7.0.7008.0
Successful Update. No glitch. Very Smooth.
3/5/2011"
this kind of explains it ?

Anybody thinking of reverting back, rebranding and getting the AT&T specific updates?? Kicking the idea around myself, Data="ATT-US" was the removed string... Please let is know if anybody goes this route...
I just did. Had to roll back to 7008, didn't have 7004. Hope it still works.
Think of doing the same just wanted to wait for someone to report if there are in fact anything different or was ATT just talking.

well i did not do the chevron way i did the spoof way that was done at first so i do have a backup of my phone.
Not worth the wait (and sooo glad I did the VPN hack update)
Apparently the ATT exclusive *features* they are adding is a WISPr protocol that switches you to login into att wifi hotspots automatically when near one. To save you (and them) data bandwidth.
The other feature is to allow you to sync your contacts with your att address book. Even lamer.
So yes ATT made you wait this long for nothing.
Lesson learned. Always rely on the fans and community for support, not the ones you have a contract with.

I did revert to 7008 and re-branded my phone. I am not worried about ATT's feature. I more worried about firmware updates. I know Rodger's Focus had firmware updates.
I did have trouble with it at first. This post solved my problems:

There are AT&T-specific changes, and there are OEM-specific changes. I can live without the AT&T crap, but if Samsung has firmware or driver update included w/ the AT&T NoDo update, then you guys may be missing out on them...

If there are firmware updates of any importance for Samsung Focus phones I see two ways of getting them;
1. anyone who puchased their phones outside AT&T or any carrier(say on Amazon or retail store) I would think they would get the update through Zune or directly from Samsung seeing their phones are not "Branded" which is no different from our "debranded" phones..
2. Reverting back to 7008, use Samsung Registry Tool, rebranding AT&T and then getting NoDo with anything else AT&T is offering..

I'm curious about this comment -- where can you get an unbranded Samsung Focus because I have yet to find one? Do they have the AT&T logo displayed below the earpiece and does it have the AT&T apps/fluff pre-loaded? If so, then that's not an unbranded phone.

I doubt it, when MS asked Chris Walsh to pull the updater tool I got the feeling from comments by both MS & Mr. Walsh that both were going to look into a solution to correct the problem, let's face there is no way either MS or the Chevron team will let so many out in the cold on a new start up OS, there was something like 25,000 downloads of the tool..

My guess is your phone will be shown as Up To Date, I also imagine you can go into Zune and choose revert back to 7008 then you should be able to reupdate to AT&T's version.. Grant you this is only my opinion.. Going to be a interesting week for those who rebranded or used the Chevron Update Tool, especially with rumors of a upcoming Microsoft Update concerning Certificates..
I unbranded then updated via the VPN method then rebranded back. For some reason Zune isnt giving me the option to revert back so guess I will see what happens when they start rolling out the next updates.
I just connected my phone to Zune and it shows a Samsung update available. I am updating to it now. Looks like it saw I had the NODO then offered the samsung update.
I have 16GB unbranded and unlocked Omnia but I don't have the official update yet. Has it been released in the UK yet?
I have unbranded locked omnia7 in UK and got the update as soon as Microsoft started rolling it out on Wednesday. I was running the 7720 RTM.
Sent from my OMNIA7 using XDA Windows Phone 7 App
Hmmm, wonder di you get it because yours is locked to a network. Dont know how it works when the phone is not locked to any carrier. MAy have to go the zune forced route but would prefer the auto update.
i had a dev unlocked handset tied to Orange and received the RTM update and the samsung update on Wednesday but lost the Orange Marketplace (had it in beta2..)
Seems so far then that it is only carrier operated handsets that are getting the update. HAs anyone with an undranded AND unlocked handset got it yet or am I the only one??
Its definitely not just the carrier operated handsets that get it as im on T-Mobile and they have said on the forums that they wont be releasing the update for a couple of weeks.
They are probably busy taking a **** on the OS so it says T-Mobile everywhere.

Not just that, but making it so everything automatically sets to google, so when you hit the search bar it will load a Google page :/ Google doesn't even work properly on WP7 -.-
I got the update Wednesday too running RTM, and mine is a "3" branded (although has been properly unlocked with a code) Omnia 7 8GB. If you are getting impatient you should just update to 7220 RTM and it 'should' (I am not guaranteeing anything here, I'm just suggesting it because I was on RTM and I received the updates on Wednesday night too) then push the (I think it said 10? Wasn't paying attention cause I was excited to finally be able to use Bing Vision effectively and such) updates to the phone.
The three store and app things were still on my phone while I was on NoDo, but the store itself dissapeared when I went through the unofficial Mango RTM update process - I don't see the Three apps anymore and to me thats a good thing. Although I can't speak for the Tmobile apps the 3 apps were all useless (especially considering I was on a different network) and they were all horribly programmed.
I'd say Mango is well worth losing your network specific apps from what I saw of the "3" apps.

I lost Orange MarketPlace after updating from RTM too.. but after a few days it returns mysteriously
I think it's to do with the way that the update logic works - different servers id the phone & the carrier (thats why disconnecting the internet at the right moment tricks it into updating the phone even if the carrier isn't ready)
I'd like to buy Samsung Omnia 7, locked T-Mobile. So, has anyone in the UK received Mango update for their Omnia 7 on the T-Mobile network?

I have a T-Mo UK Omnia7 and was running the 2nd Beta of Mango when 7720 was initially released. I got the 7720 update as soon as the first releases happened, so was quite suprised earlier this week when I get another update notification.
I haven't done this latest update yet as I'm running 7720 and am quite happy with it. If I update with this latest notification, will I run the risk of having to roll-back to my NoDo backup first, or is that process now dead and gone?
Does the T-Mo UK version really have internet sharing If so, my iPad is getting a new lease of life!!!
