Hey all. I installed Mango 2 days ago and had 0 issues with it up until today. Today when I plugged it in to charge, my focus immediately turned off and restarted. I left it off charge for a few hours, and now when I try to charge again, it keeps restarting. The phone works perfectly fine while not plugged in, but whenever I plug it in, it goes into a constant restarting cycle.
It doesn't matter whether its plugged in via USB or to the wall. I have no idea whats going on. Can't charge my phone :s
Did you ever get a fix for this? I'm having the same issue.

I don't know the problems are same but i am sure the symptoms are. I have Omnia 7 and I was facing the same problems for a while. In the end I fixed it.
I think battery had some conduction problems. You can try to clean this and make sure battery is not loose. Mine was shutting down with a tiny shake when it's not connected to charge. While in charge it was looping at the boot. I've tried everything to make it work. In the end, i figured it out, the battery had no charge to open itself and the electricity coming from USB is not enough to operate the phone sufficiently. I charged the phone via wall charger, it restarted few times and became stable.
My english is not very well for explaining this situtation and I hope it helps.
And yes, Mango might have a role in this because it's a really good battery drainer.
My Samsung focus i917R keeps restarting
Hello everyone,
Please be patient and bear with me while I try to tell you my story.
Background:
I bought the Samsung Focus i917R in September 2011, it had NoDo OS version that time. I read a lot about the microSD card issue and I really needed more than 8GB space on my phone. I had options to go with other HTC phone and not ever deal with Samsung ever but at that time Samsung Focus seem to be the best Windows Phone in the market to me (Amoled screen). I did a lot of research for a compatible microSD card and found that someone broke open an HTC (I believe it was HTC, don’t remember 100%) phone and found that it is using Sandisk class 4 memory card. So, I went with a 16GB Sandisk Class 4 memory card. My phone didn’t really give me any problem. I used up almost 17GB out of 22GB total memory.
Actual Story:
Then I updated my phone to Mango in end of Oct. I don’t remember if I started to have restart issue right after Mango update, but I noticed if I use my phone for a long time, like playing games or use the internet or use IM+ Pro or use Slacker Radio, it gets warm and then restarts. At that time I thought may be because I am using microSD card.
So, in Dec I formatted my phone and installed the newer Sandisk Mobile 8GB Class 4. I noticed I still have the same issue. This is very disappointing. I am only using 3GB space out of 15GB. So, I removed the microSD card and formatted the phone again. Now I have only 8GB and no microSD card. I still have the same issue. I will give you guys some examples of the issue.
Issue example:
If I run the Slacker Radio for over 10 min or so, the phone will get warm and it will restart.
Use the native Microsoft bing map app for a while and the phone feels warm and it will restart. I don’t think the phone gets hot or anything. This much heat for a mobile device should be acceptable. I was using iPhone 3G before I bought the Samsung and I don’t think the Samsung gets any hotter.
Let me know if any of you ran into similar issue. I don't know what to do. I bought the phone from a guy (he bought it from Rogers) and don't have the papers, not sure if it is still under warranty. Somewhat disappointed in Samsung.
I have same issues mentioned by albertleao, but could not find any solution. Can anyone post a solution too, please......

I have the same issues!
I thought the problem is related to the battery - so I purchased a new one - didn't make a difference!
I am using my Focus as a phone only, not a smartphone.
When I start running any program it starts a re-booting cycle. I have to turn it off for about 5 minutes before it will start up again. As a phone it will work 90% of the time without re-booting.
I noticed that this has accrued after the AT&T upgrade. I a thinking about installing the original rom!
Any suggestion will be welcomed.
G.E.

Today my phone again seems to let me down even more. I lock the phone, than press the HOME key only to find out, it won't unlock/wake up. Pressing all buttons and nothing wakes it up. So I asked my coworker if he could record it with his Droid (to show proof since HTC doesn't believe me). I have to take out the battery to get it out of this mode. This happens about 3 - 5 times a day and the phone is only 3 weeks old.
This is only one of the MANY of bugs I have with the phone. I've called T-mobile and got nowhere (soft resets, hard resets etc.), I've called HTC (run around answers), got nowhere, this is ridiculous. SENSE UI is bug ridden and nobody wants to take the blame or investigate it. I've called the T-mobile store where I got it from and they are on back order (going on 1 week), so I'm on a waiting list and I got 9 days left on my 30 day buyers remorse to exchange for a brand new HD2 or I'm ****ed
I can say I've had this happen too. I don't think I had this happen with a clean rom and I was guessing it was the gtX theme/mini lockscreen that might have been to blame so I'm going to do a hard reset (was planning on doing one anyway).
I've had this happen like twice. Hasn't been really an issue.
I know its sad to say but try flashing to a new rom. It works wonders.

This was one of the things that made me return mine. Happened to me 4 or 5 times the day I bought the phone. I'm like i'm not about to have to go through all this constant flashing with winmo again to get this thing to work right and took it back.
its called sleep of death and has been an issue since the hd2 launched. There are several long threads discussing it and trying various things. (I think one is titled 'hd2 died...or did it'' in the normal hd2 section)
Most cooked roms have cured it by now. Certainly i havent seen it since i moved away from stock roms.
It happened all the time on my Stock Rom. A few times on other roms. One thing is is uncheck 4hr time out.

I have had the same problem sense I purchased on Mar 24th, after trying to restore the devise 4 times within a 2 week period, I finally took it back and exchanged it for a new one, less than 24 hours, the new one froze up on me too. I searched through many forums such as this, and found that many users are having the same problem, I also read in one that the cause may be in the SD card that comes with the devise (the way it's formatted for use with it), so, 4 days ago, I removed the SD card, and the devise has worked flawless, no freeze ups, and for the last 2 days, I have not turned the devise off, and still no freeze ups. I plan on giving it a week, and if it does not freeze up on me, I'll put the card back in. I reformatted the SD card to get rid of the Double twist program, and the other apps such as the demo games, and put my music, Documents, and Photos back on it, hoping that it will work as a normal SD card when I put it back in.
Give it a try as I did, it just may be that simple fix everyone has been looking for.
Also, just for info, I'm running the stock USTMO ROM, with Cookies Home tab version 1.7 on it, Awesome and Flawless, if you don't want to flash a new ROM, you have got to at least install this add on.
I'll keep you posted on whether or not my test is successful or not

happen to me twice here's what I did removed the battery for 15 - 20 mins works fine after that.
i've seen people buying faster sdcards and they've notice differences on how the phone works. I'm bout to buy class 6 sdcard this coming week.
but anyhow, i've had this problem for like twice since i bought the phone. I think some of the culprit is leaving 3rd party apps or games opened then pressing the home key. I think the phone is getting confused on what to draw/show in the screen. That time that my phone froze up on me on that lockscreen thing was when i was playing chop sushi then went back to home and accidentally locked the phone. The phone never went back on. The other one i can remember was when i was playing bejeweled 2. in both cases, i was playing a game, then went to home screen to check a message that came in, then having my phone locked.

Funny you mentioned that. My phone does this about 6 times a day. Just now it occoured again. instead of removing the battery, I removed the SD card. it awaked as normal. this generally happens to me when I'm listening to music (located on the SD card), and try to wake it for a track change or I get a call and screen turns off as it is placed to my face. I have other SD cards, I'll be trying those on this phone with general use to test results.
In the mean time. Since other roms have removed this issue, is there anyone who can isolate the issue in the stock rom and fix it?
Well, just to let you guys know, I'm on a stock T-mobile US HD2 rom, I have no 3rd party programs installed, and I always make sure there is NOTHING running in the background. The phone is a freezing machine lol, I've never encounter sooo many freezes on any phone I ever own, and I've owned a lot.
It just froze for about 10secs while typing a text back to my fiancee, ugh. I have now taken the sim out and put it in my iPhone.

Have you a) done a hard reset, and b) tried running for a while without the SD card that came with the phone? Each of those has restored stability for some owners.
6 times just today
This is becoming a joke. Probably 6 times I've had to pull the battery Today. I'm totally stock tmous rom, no games, minimal other stuff. I took out sd card, moved data, full reformat, then put it in phone and did a "format sd card" in the phone, then transferred most of the data back on to card. NO change. I had an 8gb card which I tried last week. NO change. This is really absurd. Paid $500 for this turd. I'm gonna wear out the rubber sleeve removing it so often. Hope someone figures this out. Good luck to us all.
Hardreset 20x also.
Never had this problem.

I'm on my 3rd hard reset, haven't tried the SD Card Removal, will do that now, thanks!
So far I guess I have been lucky. I bought 2 for one and no freeze ups I did replace one because the speaker stopped working two days out of the box but no freeze ups. I wonder what is the difference. mine is completely stock from Tmobile.
Maybe I am not using enough of the features to cause the freeze.Sorry you guys are having such a time with your phones that truly sucks...
Aloha Paul
And folks said I was "exaggerating" when I said this was a major issue with a lot of these phones.
For about 2 months since I have owned this phone it has given me nothing but crap. I always kept my G1 in my pocket and I always dropped it, even had it in water 3 times! (never had any problems) The G2 however if I kept it in my pocket, dropped it, or open/closed the keyboard repeatedly the phone would shutoff! Very Very disappointed at first. I missed many calls and text messages.
So How come NOW I can drop it, open/close the keyboard repeatedly, and keep it in my pocket without it shutting off?
I did a little investigating of the battery and contact points on this phone, it turns out that there is room for play with my battery. SO every so often the contacts would lose connection with the battery!
TO fix this I put a small piece of folded paper along the top edge of the battery opposite of the contact point to the phone, it made a more secure and snug fit to the contact points.
The battery does get Hot so I do not recommend this as a permanent fix as it is now a small fire hazard.
BUT, to this day I have had ZERO problems.
I am sooooo now with my G2 any questions or other comments please leave them below.
CYANOGENMOD 7 RC1
Class 10 4gb microSd
1500MAH battery
Hard rubberized black graphic case
Talk about going backward! I remember the old nokia 5160s that everyone and their brother had folded up paper in the batteries about 10 years ago! LOL

Meh... I don't think anyone else has this problem. If they did then they probably exchanged it.
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 running Cyanogenmod.
I have this problem.
I can't exchange it because I bought the phone on ebay.
If you search through the threads and on google, quite a few people experience this random freeze / shutdown where you have to do a battery pull.
I've tried flashing different roms, using only basic apps etc...
I don't think it's software related anymore, and if it is, it's too hard to diagnose. Many suggestions have been made, micro sd card slot, battery connections, software, weird app, different rom... I haven't tried removing SD card yet and my battery connection seems ok, it's pretty tight in there...
Don't know what the problem is and I wish someone could figure it out as it's frustrating to drop too much $$$ on a phone and have it act this way.
Random Reboots
I have a similar problem with my G2. It randomly reboots when its siting stationary on my desk or in my car.
This problem is made stranger though because it NEVER does this while I'm using it!! If I have it playing Pandora or Youtube - no reboots. But, like clockwork, if turn off the screen and set it on my desk, reboot... never fails... it will reboot 2 or 3 times then seems to be ok for a little while. Very annoying because I can't make or receive calls while its doing this.
Like others I've read plenty of posts on this but no working fix I can find. Some people say they returned their phone 2 or 3 times and still have the same issue. Some people say its related to signal strength but it does this will full bars or no bars.
I've tried custom Roms: CM6.1.1, CM7-RC1, & Virtuous 1.0.1 and the problem remains.
Does anyone know how to fix this? This is the only negative about an otherwise HOT little phone.
At least yours reboots! A lot of others just freeze (like mine)! And then you don't even know it.
I'm trying out another theory... Installed CM6 a few days ago. Had the same problem.
But I just started OC using CPU Tuner and the stock CM6 Kernel., the lowest option I have for clock speed is 700 something for some reason, so I just used that. So far, 36h, hasn't done it. I THINK, it might be related to the phone not getting enough juice for some odd reason - even on stock, so when you OC it and set a higher clock speed for idle, it might help. NOT sure yet but testing. Will post up if it "fixes" the problem for me.
My G2 was randomly shutting off a lot, usually right after I stuck it in my pocket. The solution? I exchanged it. The new one never does that XD
Possible fix for random reboot
I think I may have found a working fix for my random reboots. Credit goes to the OP.
I installed the Pershoot kernel and since then I haven't had a reboot and up until now it has rebooted like clockwork.
I'll see how it goes.
I had this problem while using the Red ChiChi/EVO batteries, but I believe my problem to be with the back cover. I might have dropped it and the cover got slightly tweaked, or perhaps it was the chichi battery, as it wasn't exactly a perfect fit. If a certain spot on it gets touched or pushed in, the battery loses contact with the pins and kills the phone. I have to pull the battery and let it set for a minute b4 putting it back in and powering up.
I used the same method, with a piece of folded paper on top for a while.
Perhaps its a different problem than the OP, but this only happened with my ChiChi batteries. With stock battery, it always seemed to be a good enough fit, and the corners kept it in place.
I ended up buying an extra stock battery for around $20, and now I carry 2 Stock batteries at all times.
Solution finally?!
I think I found the solution for my phone:
set OC profiles so the phone doesn't go below a certain mhz threshold.
On CM6 stock with CPU Tuner, it defaults to 700mhz lowest. Did not notice any increase in battery drain.
Uptime - 70 hours. Finally fixed!
//UPDATE: I did experience a freeze around the 100 hour mark, but so far that's the only one in the last week or so. In any case, it's doing MUCH better than before...
//OK I lied it still does it but so far just once or twice a week. Better than once a day.
So far there are apparently three problems/solutions:
- Micro SD slot loose connection / improper close - Check micro SD card slot
- Idle voltage too low, freezes phone / use OC kernel and set screen off speed higher
- Bad battery connection / manually fix
After many tries and diagnosing I think one issue is that on stock settings, the idle / screen off profile is set too low, which can freeze the phone (although I did have it freeze once while I was actively texting... not sure why). But 99% of the time it happened with the screen off. Hopefully it doesn't happen again, will keep phone on to see, but I don't remember it going more than 48h without freezing lately.
I have tried the following which did NOT fix the issue for me:
Micro SD check
Uninstall programs (skype, launcher pro, various others)
Revert to "stock"
CM6 "stock"
Checked Battery
Used stock battery / China battery
All those solutions still led to the random freeze / battery pull situation, but could potentially work for you.
2 G2's did the same thing. T-Mobile states known problem. After 14-hour shut down pulled mSDHC card and Sim and replaced battery which was drained in the off-state.
Solved problem and bought a Nokia N8.
Customer Service at T-Mobile and HTC is totally unconnected and unresponsive. Their answer wait for the FOTA.
Hope they don't send it to my Symbian ^3 jewel!
Was Shutting down multiple times a day - FIXED!
Hey Guys,
I've purchased my G2 from ebay so was not able to return it. So I've been trying to fix this problem for ever.
I have not found anything that works until now (knock on wood).
I installed the Cyanogenmod (cm_vision_full-32.zip) and updated my older CM version. The phone has not shutdown once in 4 days, which is a first.
Note: my GPS does not work with this version. I'm about to try a clean wipe to see if it will activate. I'm guessing however that the shutdown issue is 100% tied to the GPS so if I'm successful the problem will return. If a wipe does not work I'll try new radios.
I'll update any progress.

Caveat emptor.
I know. Live in Canada and only way to get the phone.
Me too, although my phone is at uptime: 211 hours right now
CM6 with cpu tuner with the settings posted above... basically make sure it never underclocks below 700 mhz.
Hey guys, would love to get some help.
Flashed 2.08HSPL to my phone a while back with radio 2.15.50.14
Using Transcend 8GB Class 6 Fat32 format with 32kb buffer.
I've tried multiple Android versions (MDJ, PPDSHIFT, DL Desire) and they all often freeze. Either within a day, or literally after I load the ROM for the first time and doesn't seem to be stable. The longest I've ever had a ROM with no freezing is PPD Shifts 2.3.2 V6 Gingerbread series. Then one day it started freezing.
As in freezing, the screen freezes, I can't turn the phone off at all. I leave it hoping it would un freeze, but nothing works. The only way is to take out the battery.
Is there something wrong with HSPL 3? Should I try to reload it? Or fix the radio?
I've upgraded from a class 2 SD card and I thought it works better, but no avail.
Should i stop going SD but go to NAND? Would that stop freezing?
Or is it my phone?
I'm running Stock Windows 6.15
Please, any help would be great. This phone has so much potential but it just freezes.
It sounds like the quite common overheating problem some hd2s have. Mine gets really hot in the bottom part under heavy usage and freezes afterwards. I think it its covered by the warranty though.
I'm having the same problem. Once it gets warm the phone freezes and when I turn on data connection also. Without a sim card in place phone works just fine hmm..
I got the same issue few times.
I am guessing you are heavy user too!
Mine even got reboot automatically when its overheated -.-!

Anyone managed to sort this yet?
Its happening to my hd2 all the time.
If I turn data and GPS on....game over...freezes straight away and sometimes loud buzzing
Noise.
Have to pull battery out to reboot.
Hi, I was bummed when my HD2 running Energy Rom 6.5 Titanium was beginning to freeze on me and it kept progressively getting worse and worse for a month. It got to a point where it became unuseable as it froze every 2 minutes and even my Android SD MIUI Rom could not even load in half the time and when it did it just froze after a few seconds. I thought my hardware was failing me and was contemplating either sending it in with my warranty or just getting a new phone completely.
BUT....I have since taken the sim card out as I can't use the phone and put it into my HTC BLUE ANGEL (God bless it, still chugging along nicely after 8 YEARS!!!!) and I notice my HD2 all of the sudden running smoothly! Its been running smoothly and fast for the last 72 hours on 6.5. I just loaded up my Android SD with no problems at all! Has anyone ever heard of a sim card causing the same problem symptoms as failing hardware? I HOPE this is the case as I'm trying to find anybody else that can shed a light on this. I love my HD2 and hope its not dying!
P.S. I put the sim card back in and noticed a slight slow down and a few instances of unresponsiveness but no freeze yet. My sim card is about 4-5 years old.
P.S. 2 - My phone finally froze after watching a 5 minute youtube clip in Android. Cant discern whether it is phone hardware related or app related or even Rom related as my Android always freezes atleast 1-2 times a day every since I had an Android SD Rom.
yes, sim cards fail / get old and can cause issues, non booting, random hard resets, gl;itchy screens, all kinds of things. phone your operator and ask for a new one.

Thats what I like to hear. I think my HD2 is not messed up after all. About 80 hours on Winmo no freezes w/o sim card and only one freeze on Android SD in 8 hours. Thanks!
i got a Venue Pro from a us ebay seller, originally ATT locked and running nodo 7392. guess i got very unlucky cause my device was freezing after a couple of moves, not just under intense stressing, almost immediate freezing with any usb cable connection, random freezes even in standby.
just once i was able to upgrade the sys to Mango before usb crash, and i still got the same problems.
So i tried replacing the original microsd Sandisk 16Gb class 4 with a LEXAR 32 Gb class 10, and no improvement at all!
then i noticed that the device it s kinda lasting longer before freezing when there s no simcard inserted. But STILL with or without wifi activated hte sys crashes, it s just a matter of time.
ANYone can help at this point?
tks

At this point, you've done a lot. Have you considered a few resets in a row. You have already tried without the SD card, so leave it out. Also, on setup, don't log in. Let in run without windows live for awhile...no apps, no wifi. Just to if it would work out of box. Consider that you're not trying to get it to work the way you like, but rather just getting it to work period. No login, no apps, no wifi. See if that helps
You've already tried most of what is suggested
tks 4 reply! tried everything u suggested but it didnt get any better,
i even followed all steps shown in the "how to unbrick dvp" , succeded to get running that old 7004 Tmobile rom on it, and....same as before!!random crashes, even with every connecivity disabled, even with no sim, no way to get this dvp working i guess...
Looks like a broken hardware, sorry...
