Is there any real chance of getting the kindle tablet rom, on to the nook color
It could be interesting as amazon has a much stronger infustructure compared to BN with movies, etc,
Also the irony of it would be high as well.
I don't know enough about android, nor have a looked at specs enough to know what's possible but thoughts?
I seriously doubt that Amazon is going to release its source code, so probably not.

That's kind of what I assumed, but oh well. these forums will have enough doing when ICS finally hits.
plus the Nook Kindle Fire is a totally different architecture. Dual Core.
Possible, but unlikely.
We'll know much better when it's released.

I fail to grasp why anyone would want to do this? I suspect that many techy people who buy the Fire will want to put CM7 on it.....
With CM7 on a Nook Color what cannot be accessed from Amazon? I have on mine:
Kindle App for books
Amazon Marketplace for apps
Flash so Amazon movies probably play
What is left?

Newby here so excuse my ignorance... with cm7 is flash not available?
You have to install it separately from CM7, which is as hard as going to the market and downlaoding it.

Open Market right on the NC, search for an app, hit few buttons so that it would download, install automatically ............. is so hard for you?
What else you consider less complicated than that?

I was able to get some information from Viewsonic via a direct message on twitter. Please understand, that if you ask Viewsonic about this publicly, they will more than likely deny it:

Cool.... I'll start on the ubuntu ROM....
Um why not just make it public? Things like this make me wonder...
Really hope this is legit! Then the fun can really get started!
what does this mean? does it mean the kernel will be unlocked and we can overclock? or use the 2nd core?

It means that they are going to release the Kernel Source and we can compile our own kernels.

TnT and VEGAn are both using the 2nd core as far as the devs know.

Does this mean we could finally get a "stock" Android build, with Market and everything integrated?

Market is typically disabled on all non-phone or non-3G devices by Google. That's why we have to hack a fix to make it work. Google has stated many times that they do not want marketplace on any non-phone or non-3G capable device. That might change with Android 3.0, but for now, we're stuck hacking the fix.
Ooh please let this be true. Kernel source + Froyo AOSP would make me a VERY happy camper. For that matter kernel source + TnT Lite or VEGAn would make me just as happy!

Well, that remains true as of right now.
However, barnes and noble are supposedly releasing a 2.2 + market update to their nook color in january. and for $250. that is a hell of a good deal.
I have also seen people saying they have the market and then come to find out. they didnt have it legally. but i dont thing a big wig like barnes and noble would do that.
it would seem that google is easing up on its market access. realizing that we have tablets now. and we want to fully utilize them now. not whenever 3.0 comes out.
AC had an article that the Nook won't be getting market after all, but will get 2.2.
Anyway this is great news!

The Nook will be getting a "market" but it will not be the Google Market. It will be like what Viewsonic provided for the G-Tab.

Yes, I have Fruit Ninja. I copied the apk from my Galaxy S and put it on the kindle... no joy. It's funny too because I hadn't tried to open it on the kindle until I read your post here lol.
At any rate, I simply uninstalled it, went to the Google (not Amazon) Market and redownloaded it. Once it installed it played beautifully.
I downloaded the full version from another market..... Can't say which one though. Plays just as good as the app on my SGS II.
i got the free version from the amazon market and it looks great.
thanks for the reply guys!
man then i definitely fear something is weird. i downloaded it from amazon's marketplace.
attached is a picture of the problem. as you can see the circles are squished.

This may not be the helpful but I had downloaded the HD version onto my HTC flyer from Getjar. Not sure if it's still offered there or if it's downloadable onto the fire but it's another place to look.

So I'm new to the Android community. I only just joined when I got my Kindle Fire. I've heard that "Cyanogenmod 7" can be put on the Fire. I've looked on their site, and I have a vague idea of what it is, but not the full picture, so could someone explain to me what it is, and what good it would do to get it on my Kindle Fire?
Thanks.
cm7 is an alternate rom, has nothing to do with amazon and the kf will be like any other standard android tablet. all the special features from amazon will not be available.

They are not available by defualt, but their are ports. It's very easy to get them on Cyanogenmod. It allows you to run more games on it since it has the gingerbread on it. It's also pre rooted.

the rom is the os - stock and cm7 are both based on android 2.3.4 (gingerbread) but that are different - let's say - distributions, with different look and feel - there are many pictures on the web about that - just google for it

I'm beginning to understand, and I prefer that UI to the stock, do you think it's worth the transition? Thanks.
And, is there a difference in battery life etc? Anything bad?
that decition is up to you - i'm using stock with golauncher ex - have changed the language (german in my case) - i'm quite happy with that

I think I'm going to give it a go. Just one question. The kindle fire has no buttons, so when I install CM7, the default bottom bar that is used for navigation on the KF will surely be gone, is there a solution to this, and you think it'll be a problem? EDIT: Oh, and does CM7 come with root access by default?
this would be a good point to start:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1390773
and read,read,read to avoid problems
the navigation is no problem - saw pictures where it is integrated in the bar from cm7 at the right side
you need a additional app to regulate the loudness
and i think cm7 comes rooted (i have never used it)
read the above thread - all you need is in there
good luck !

No. There is a bottom bar on CM7 aswell. So that is not a problem. The version I run is detected as being pre-rooted by KFU. I used the "Standing on the shoulders giants" version.

yes, i meant volume
I definitely think that Cyanogen Mod is a great way to go. It improves the performance a ton, and in my casse, makes the kindle more useful.
There's no such thing as an unrooted CM ROM.
Welcome to Android. What is a ROM?

The stock rom is nice, but cm7's performance is outstanding especially when using flash in the browser, I just watched a video review on IGN full screen, HD setting, and it ran flawlessly I couldn't do that in the stock rom. Been very impressed running cm7 on the fire, this will hold me over until the devs get ICS stable.

Hey there guys, it's me again. Is there a good GBA Emulator to play Final Fantasy and Pokemon on? I'm a total nostalgic nerd , I have bought new GBAs and PS2s to play these games already. I now want to play the old pokemon and final fantasies on my nook. I need detailed instructions, because I have no idea what I'm doing!

I don't know how to get the Google Play store, and I can't download apps. Whenever I download, it downloads, and when I try to open is says error parsing info. I think I may need to unroot and reroot with a different method or something....
I'd be happy with a GB emulator, as it is already B&W. And there are plenty of cool games (pokemon, tetris, super mario land, gargoyle's quest, to name a few), and they are quite small in size.

Well, Google broke the Market on these things, so side loading will probably be your only option for now. I'm not sure how well it will work, but GBCoid might work.

What if you use the NoRefresher app ???
Tried, still looks awful. Too bad.
I tried a GBA emulator and it wasn't really worth playing even with the refresh hack. On the other hand, I downloaded GBC A.D. from SearchMarket and used the refresh hack playing Pokemon Yellow. It's very playable and I am on the second gym leader so far
Which is why i want to make a romhack of some Pokemon game with pure black and white images. Who's with me?
Would love to see a video of the original B&W GB with no refresh and multitouch...
No sounds makes it kind of useless though. I mean, the music is what also defined the series!
To me anyways.
Sorry for going so off topic..
Since there isn't music, I just listen to remix albums of the games. http://ocremix.org linky
Well, there is sound if you want to plug in a USB audio adapter.
