Market is typically disabled on all non-phone or non-3G devices by Google. That's why we have to hack a fix to make it work. Google has stated many times that they do not want marketplace on any non-phone or non-3G capable device. That might change with Android 3.0, but for now, we're stuck hacking the fix.
Ooh please let this be true. Kernel source + Froyo AOSP would make me a VERY happy camper. For that matter kernel source + TnT Lite or VEGAn would make me just as happy!

Well, that remains true as of right now.
However, barnes and noble are supposedly releasing a 2.2 + market update to their nook color in january. and for $250. that is a hell of a good deal.
I have also seen people saying they have the market and then come to find out. they didnt have it legally. but i dont thing a big wig like barnes and noble would do that.
it would seem that google is easing up on its market access. realizing that we have tablets now. and we want to fully utilize them now. not whenever 3.0 comes out.
AC had an article that the Nook won't be getting market after all, but will get 2.2.
Anyway this is great news!

Especially considering that Google implemented the "Fragments UI" idea in the latest SDK. From my understanding, this will allow the devs to make apps that work with both tablets and phones, where the UI will scale to different sizes for the different areas, instead of having 2 different apps.

Ok I'm gonna post a new thread devoted to this, I'm SURE someone on XDA must have found a leaked version of this beta apk, because not having it straight away is unacceptable . This is by FAR the app that I've been looking forward to with the Xoom. I'd gladly trade Flash for the next few months before the Weatherbug app! (hate me if you want, whatever)

Adding in the Fragments UI concept is only a few limited lines of code to allow scaling. Doesn't mean that the size of the apps will necessarily be any bigger. Don't forget, theres always Apps2SD
If having scalable UI means that the apps will be slightly bigger but completely functional, it's worth it.

Agreed, however this one is a different story, as it is an app that IS already in the Market, but some sort of glitch (either at the Weatherbug end or the Google end of things) isn't allowing it to be downloaded and installed. After all, as far as the Weatherbug site is concerned, this beta app *should* be fully available for download at this moment. At any rate I just sent an email in to the folks at Weatherbug as I'm quite sure they'd want to know about this so that they can communicate with Google to sort out the problem and make sure their app is fully available.
hey guys
im thinking of possibly buying the vega but wanted to know if theres any chance of it getting honeycomb?
The Froyo build on the Vega is AOSP (slightly modified) using the Nvidia reference libs. So until Honeycomb hits AOSP even the OEM doesn't know how it will work. When they do know they will tell the rebadgers (POV/Advent/etc) and then we may find out.
Unofficially we'll probably know shortly after Honeycomb drops in AOSP because we'll try to get a build running.
I have been holding off myself as it doesnt look to be running that great even on the cooked ROMS. I have been stung before waiting for a ROM upgrade or fix that never came. Not going to buy this until it gets a decent honey rom.
Well, mine runs great. Bang for buck, im super happy.
Performance is good n fast, and it does what i need it to do. Not sure where you got the idea it doesnt run well.
Id love to see honeycombe etc, but if they dont appear for the vega, ill still be happy with it.
Dont be off put due to lack of a particular rom

It runs just perfectly fine on the default roms and addons imo. It should be able to run honeycomb and I think it will in time... but there are no guarantees.
It's a fine device as it is now already though.

That is correct, but strangely all the backlighting of the buttons etc worked out of the box, buttons it is easy to fix if you want.
Just a little test for fun nothing else, also saw that there was support for mdpi so theoretically it could be working on Hero with some manual intervention.

Yes, it is foolish to ask for a ROM that's meant to run on tablets to be made for phones. But I never have never said and never will say no to a new ROM...
Sent from my Hero using XDA App
Yes it's going to run like ass and our screens won't do any good either.
But... as always, I'm eager to see what crazy stuff the ROM-people come up with.
but the sdk version includes some feature of switching from tablet to mobile mode by simply changing resolution... they won't have included it if it wasn't meant to be run on mobiles, and in 3.1, mobile (2.x) and tablet (3.0) development lines shall be joined (says wikipedia lol). moreover, lots of people out here said it would be impossible to run 2.2 and 2.3 on hero, and right now i'm looking at my rooted android 2.3 hero which is incredibly smooth and stable (way better than with stock os). so why shouldn't it be possible? ele just said even backlight of the buttons worked out of the box, which was not case in 2.x. i'm still believing in our developers (although i can't code well enough to support them ) and i'm sure they'll do some magic
greets, Summoner
Do you really use wikipedia for truths? Anyone can add to Wiki?!
no i don't... i just think it sounds possible... otherwise, there would be two future development lines which the consequence would be that there were VERY different features depending where more / the better devs work on lol^^
i didn't claim it was the absolute truth, otherwise i wouldn't have explicitly said it came from wiki ...

The issue is the way the SDK emulates the processor among other things. Its not possible and many skilled devs have tried plus having a $1100…+ bounty.
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
Why do people not use the search functions, or services like google(we all have a google android device right)? Look no HC till we get the source code or can straight copy from device "A" with HC that is the same thing as device "B" without hc. SDK is the preview, it has no graphic acceleration and is ment for computer based emulation or single core emulation, like which is found in the nook color. People leave HC alone, if a DEV makes it, thank them with all your heart, dont stress them with trying to appease the mass. More than likely you should start spamming the forum with request for icecream because honeycomb may never be available to us because of googles decisions with the source.

Source is important to get everything working correctly. However, porting is possible if someone has the knowledge on how to do it. The devs that have these devices are darn good at what they do but we are hurting in this particular area. Not much to be done about it though.

What issues are you having with the emulator?
If you can't get that working take your app in to a store that sells the XOOM (Verizon, Staples, BestBuy, etc), load it up on there to test and then delete it when your done. Not the most elegant solution but it will work in a pinch.

Haha. Very true. The problem is as of last night the project file is 829 MB. Thats why it won't run on the emulator. I don't know how to get it to accept however large that APK file will be once compiled. Other then the emulator just being slow thats my main problem. I can live with the slowness though. Just need to give it a ton more memory. Haha.
O. And the file is only going to get larger if things go as planned. Haha
So I just found the AOKP forums, and I have an Acer A500. I see build 28, but I don't see a thread for it. Is it safe to download the A500 version of build 28? I am also on Thor's CWM recovery version 1.7, which is CWM 5.5. Will flashing this do anything to internal or external SD storage, or the CWM installation?
There WAS one, then it was revealed that the AOKP was using Thors kernel without permission, so it was banned.

So will this overwrite my current CWM install, or format any of my SD storage? I want to be able to flash back to my current ROM without losing anything.
Personally, I'd steer clear. Last time I saw a status update on it, it was pretty unstable, would reboot on suspend unless you turned off animations, and generally pretty crap. The only part that worked properly was their donation links.
The leak-based ROM's on here, or Thor's current release, are FAR more stable.
However, AFAIK, it won't touch your recovery partition or wipe SD storage, but I can't guarantee that.
From what I'm seeing, the later builds are much more stable.
