So, seeing as we all want us some Honeycomb, what would it take to get the Honeycomb on Xoom ported to Adam?
Sent from my ERIS GSBv2.1 using XDA App
Honeycomb source AND some packages from NVIDIA for the harmony dev board supporting HC.
We will also be able to port it over from the Malata tablets once they get it.

Here's where he first says it. According to then and their sources, only Ventana can run Honeycomb.

And I believe they've already made the switch to Ventana.

Well, the update they released after that still said Harmony
Most likely because its still 2.2. NVidia says they are only supporting Ventana going forward from 2.3. Can anyone confirm which the Xoom is running?

So I'm guessing that we just don't have a developer with enough skills to get us any Honeycomb love. The Nook is running the SDK and we don't even appear to have anyone trying. Running the SDK at the least would be better than nothing.
get to it then
Sounds like you have your work cut out for you. I can promise if it was currently possible we have ppl on it.

The issue is the way the SDK emulates the processor among other things. Its not possible and many skilled devs have tried plus having a $1100…+ bounty.

Why do people not use the search functions, or services like google(we all have a google android device right)? Look no HC till we get the source code or can straight copy from device "A" with HC that is the same thing as device "B" without hc. SDK is the preview, it has no graphic acceleration and is ment for computer based emulation or single core emulation, like which is found in the nook color. People leave HC alone, if a DEV makes it, thank them with all your heart, dont stress them with trying to appease the mass. More than likely you should start spamming the forum with request for icecream because honeycomb may never be available to us because of googles decisions with the source.

I still fail to see why we NEED to have source. With the similarities between the Xoom and the Adam (same processor etc) what else do we need to make a port? Why is the source so important?

Source is important to get everything working correctly. However, porting is possible if someone has the knowledge on how to do it. The devs that have these devices are darn good at what they do but we are hurting in this particular area. Not much to be done about it though.

Thats what I figured. I would work on it if I had any idea of what to do. I just do some app developing though so I have no skills. Thing is the emulator doesn't work well enough for me to test out my app. Thats why I'm asking what it takes to get this thing ported. I need it running like yesterday.

What issues are you having with the emulator?
If you can't get that working take your app in to a store that sells the XOOM (Verizon, Staples, BestBuy, etc), load it up on there to test and then delete it when your done. Not the most elegant solution but it will work in a pinch.

Haha. Very true. The problem is as of last night the project file is 829 MB. Thats why it won't run on the emulator. I don't know how to get it to accept however large that APK file will be once compiled. Other then the emulator just being slow thats my main problem. I can live with the slowness though. Just need to give it a ton more memory. Haha.
O. And the file is only going to get larger if things go as planned. Haha

Market is typically disabled on all non-phone or non-3G devices by Google. That's why we have to hack a fix to make it work. Google has stated many times that they do not want marketplace on any non-phone or non-3G capable device. That might change with Android 3.0, but for now, we're stuck hacking the fix.
Ooh please let this be true. Kernel source + Froyo AOSP would make me a VERY happy camper. For that matter kernel source + TnT Lite or VEGAn would make me just as happy!

Well, that remains true as of right now.
However, barnes and noble are supposedly releasing a 2.2 + market update to their nook color in january. and for $250. that is a hell of a good deal.
I have also seen people saying they have the market and then come to find out. they didnt have it legally. but i dont thing a big wig like barnes and noble would do that.
it would seem that google is easing up on its market access. realizing that we have tablets now. and we want to fully utilize them now. not whenever 3.0 comes out.

The other guys app isn't fully functional neither, its still considered a beta also. The team win hdmi is free as compared to the guy orrembas(android central) has a trial. He said when his app hits the market the trial will automatically end and not work you will need to pay for it. I've used both apps and only thing the other guys has is sound(which isn't all that great cause it flickers while team wins doesn't). Good luck

Incorrect. One of the kernels to enable the HDMI app was in violation of GPL and that was pulled by the dev in order to comply with GPL rules. The app does not violate anything and neither does the stock kernel with the HDMI drivers.

Based on the Latest post it will be hitting the market pretty soon.
Still no update on if he will release the custom drivers he wrote so they can be integrated into other kernels, although I believe that the drivers aren't needed in the new version, he is able to use the App in software mode.
Hardware mode requires drivers and overclocking which is what was in violation of GPL. Last I checked neither Team win or orrebmas has realeased source code to their Kernels.

Hello guys,
As many of you know, I've become a traitor, and by that I mean I now have the Nexus S 4G.
Simply AOSP is the ROM I have devoted a lot of my time to on the forums here, it doesn't have the user base of ACS stamped ROM's but seems to have a lot of dedicated users.
With my leaving the Epic 4G behind me I will no longer be as focused on Simply AOSP as I had been. I will update it as I can but I'm looking for a developer or two to come on board and co-pilot the ROM with me for a while and eventually take it over entirely.
The goal of Simply AOSP was to basically clone CM6/CM7/AOSP as much as possible for Epic users who love AOSP. I'd like to find someone who also loves AOSP and wants to continue to bring the most AOSP experience as possible to the ROM's users.
If you haven't tried Simply AOSP I recommend you flash it and take a look, if it seems like something you'd want to be a part of please contact me via PM.
I'm open minded with "requirements" for potential developers but please include your experience just so I have an idea of what you're capable of. I will help make the transition as smooth as possible.
That said you all will see me in the Epic section of the forums less and less. Despite some of the interesting drama it's been a blast and I've enjoyed working with and talking to all of you!!!

Yeah it really just needs a maintainer to keep it up to date.. add in some enhancements of their own or of the communities as they are discovered. The update to Gingerbread will take some Themeing skills and possibly a few Simply Settings updates but otherwise.. yeah agreed very easy.

Simply AOSP has been developed entirely with Windows (OK and some Mac OS X but mostly Windows, no Linux at all). The only time you would need Linux is if you were compiling real AOSP or a Kernel. However I didn't write the Kernel it's just Genocide. It's also just a AOSP clone so it's been a customization of the stock Touchwiz ROM which can be done with Windows.
The only real code I've written is Simply Settings which can also be developed in Windows (or Linux and Mac OS X for that matter) with Eclipse. It's not a very complicated program but it would need some Java knowledge, otherwise I would continue maintenance on that.
Biggest things that would be needed would be...
1.) Themeing skills (Simply AOSP comes with 3 themes built in)
--These are a must.. there is a lot of Themeing and it will be the most time consuming part of converting the rom to Gingerbread in the future.
2.) General knowledge about the filesystem layout and what does what. (Easier then it sounds)
3.) Java / Scripting knowledge if you plan to take control of Simply Settings.
4.) Time. It's mostly feature complete as of right now, but needs a maintainer who will be able to integrate future enhancements. When I say this I'm referring to enhancements you make or that the community makes.
Since it's an AOSP clone it's very easy feature wise because it doesn't need a lot of features.
Big happenings recently in the Touchpad realm. Touchdroid, one of the groups who was developing Android for the HP Touchpad, has decided to release a dump of their build, along with instructions on how to install it. I have recorded my own installation in hopes that others might benefit from it.
Two things:
1. Please follow the steps listed here http://touch-droid.com/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=2
2. Be aware that this is not the Cyanogenmod version, and there are a few items that are not quite working yet.
Here is the link to the video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xhWVmMYquYY
Happy Flashing!
Now, the usual disclaimer: If this bricks your Touchpad.... bummer, dude.
Also, I am aware that an amazing build will eventually be released from Cyanogen. I am excited about this. The touchdroid build is just to tinker with.
:::UPDATE:::
If you want to uninstall this, here is a video explaining how:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QKRp3ldtAjU
agreed. Even if their devteam is knowledgeable I will not install their port because of the logs I've read.

This is the beginning of it all...^^ Android is damn near now... thx!
Please keep in mind that this build is incomplete and buggy. That being the case, this is only recommended to those that care less about the source (we already know all about that) and more about tinkering with it. Use it if you like, but keep the arguments out. Thanks.

People, if you don't have any idea what this is, where it comes from, or why it's being posted..... DON'T INSTALL IT!!!!
If some idiot (me ) puts a video on the intertubes, it does NOT mean that you need to follow it. Watch it, learn from it, but if you don't like the outcome.....DON'T INSTALL IT!!!!!
Also, I total get why people bail from giving even the smallest amount of help to others. Nobody asked me to do this video, I just saw a need for it and made it. And... I'll do it again once cyanogen's stuff comes out for it.
Haters gonna hate, I guess.

Also does anyone know if once the CM version is released the flashing process might be a little easier for the average user? CM's release will be soon enough and will be fool proof. Unless you're reasonably familiar with the Linux terminal and ADB you're probably better off waiting. There's not much properly working on this version. You'll install it, play for ten minutes and them have to go back to waiting for a proper release. This is pre-alpha.

after have following the drama, around the stolen/lost code, I really think people should stop there personal [mod edit], and focus on getting android to the tp. So lets all stop the flaming, and wait for the CM, or another teams build! Just my 5 cents
Whats the point of tinkering with the Touchdroid build when the team has disbanded. I would stay away from this build since the CyanogenMod seems to be way ahead of the Touchdroid team anyways.

Let me first start by saying the rom doesnt boot completely. It boots all the way to when the screen dims and vibrates, when it is about to display lockscreen.. Logcat shows everything installing and starting correctly.. It wasn't hard to get to this stage, so it gave me a little bit of confidence in this awesome project.. Froyo was my favorite android version, as it was a huge upgrade for my old hero.
I thought it would be hilarious to release cm6 for the nexus s, heck I would have run it for the rest of my nexus's lifetime.

They are incompatibility. Because Nexus S is the first Gingerbread-device, Androi 2.3.0 is the lowest compatibly OS version.
You also can't install System V(AT&T's Unix system since about 1970) in your computer.

Yes this is true, but the point is that its almost booting.. I knew this from the start, it will require back porting drivers and probably a few kernel edits, but it may be possible.. in the end its just Linux running on a few upgraded drivers and a few kernel changes..

Not without doing some back porting.
This is much easier to do from Gingerbread back to Froyo though, since you are building something to run on the same hardware and software stack (ARM and Android 2.x). The most difficult part would be getting drivers to work, but just as older drivers are made to work on new OS versions with shims and other tricks, in theory this is possible, if not a lot of work.
I'm not sure what will be gained though. Gingerbread didn't seem like a significant resource drain over Froyo, so I can't imagine there are any speed/power gains.

Yeah not really much to gain, but how awesome would it be to be able to be able to add to the list of things that can run on the nexus s.. and froyo on the flagship gingerbread device? against all rules

What about cupcake?
In all seriousness though, froyo would make a great ROM. and It should in theory be faster than GB.

Great Idea! I also thougt already how older Android Versions would run on the Nexus S.
When 2.2 is running, you guys should start porting 1.6 ;-)
Doesn't it help, that the similar SGS already was running 2.2?
Wow...you are amazing swamp goblin.

Yeah, its funny because I tried porting a froyo touchwiz rom from the og epic, and it got to pretty much the same place when booting haha.. hopefully I can get this working, along with other variations of froyo, that would be the greatest achievement for me in any android related stuff.
