I am trying to SIMUNLOCK my mytouch 4g with gfree. I have Virtuous Unity Rom 2.39.0 running on it. More information below.
I am not one to post in forums and get help from other members. Before I freak out and give up on something I tend to google information about it for weeks. Well gfree has broken me. Be a bit easy on me, since this is my first post ever in this forum.
For starters I will give you information about my Mytouch 4g. I don't know what kind of info you will need to help me so I will give it all just in case
I found this information under settings:
-Android version= 2.3.4
-HTC Sense version= 3.0
-Software number= Virtuous Unity v2.39.0 (Glacier)
-Kernel Version= 2.6.35.14-UNITY-V9-gdfc9a05
=mdj(at sign)mdj#5
-Baseband Version= 12.28b.60.140cU-26.03.02.26_M
-Build Number= Virtuous Unity V2.39.0
-Browser Version= WebKit/533.1
I found this information from BOOTLOADER
-Glacier PVT ENG S-off
-HBoot=0.85.2007 (PD1510000)
-Microp= 0429
-Radio= 26.03.02.26_M
-eMMc= boot
-SN= HT0AWRM03827
-LCD-SH-C2
-Os Ver. -1.14.531.1
-CID- T-MOB010
-RAM- 768MB
-eMMC- Sandisk 2223MB 4554751sectors
Okay so that's everything I could find, some of it may be useful some of it may not be. I am trying to turn Sim lock off on my Mytouch 4g. I followed the instructions for gfree. When I do it through Terminal Emulator I keep getting these 2 errors:
-attempting to power cycle eMMC... Failed.
-Module failed to load: No such file directory.
So I booted my phone into bootloader and I see a SIMUNLOCK option. So I figured gfree worked even though it told me it didn't. When I click on SIMUNLOCK I see this:
-Fat32 init ok
-open MCCMNC file fail
-open CID file fail
So my question is: What am I doing wrong? I followed it step by step and continue to get these errors. If anyone could help I would greatly appreciate it.

1) why don't you just call Tmobile and get an unlock code?
2) which method of rooting did you use before?

Well... long story short I had to cancel my Tmobile account and now have AT&T and a windows phone. I'm going crazy without my Android. I tried calling Tmobile but they said since I was no longer a customer they could not help me. So that option is out for me. I used a guide from unlockr and it used visionary app.

ah i see.
so you used the root.sh method?
i'm not sure on why gfree didn't work, maybe bad download?
The method i used. /gfree -f command should patch everything. Read thoroughly. Goodluck

saranhai- yes I used root.sh I downloaded it from somewhere on here. I read that there was a different version but I could not find it anywhere.
formeforfree- That's the exact same method I used but it keeps giving me errors.

hmm... well the only way i can think of right now is to wipe the device, restore back to stock 2.2.1, and root via the gfree way, see if that works.
I actually have the same issue. I rooted with g-free months ago, 2 weeks ago I did the commands to simunlock and got errors...followed the commands to the T and tried about 4 times.
I finally figured it out. I did some more searching on google and found a thread about gfree. I was on android version 2.3.4 gfree only works on 2.2.1 they said. So I flashed a froyo rom, rooted it again the gfree way, simunlocked it, tested it, flashed my rom back on and IT WORKED!! You should try it that way lowandbehold.

any idea where you found that info? i keep getting the same error trying to restore to stock and cant figure it out. I am not finding anything helpful on Google
This "secret info" is scattered in virtually ALL the rooting threads of MT4G since Gingerbread is out. Google search will show it a zillion times. The requirement for downgrading the OS if you're not on 2.2.1 is specifically mentioned in this sticky, for example:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1281085
Yep, Jack_R1 is right, as usual. Gfree is written to work on stock Froyo ONLY.
Thanks for clearing that up in yet another thread.
BTW, I tried to recompile it under Gingerbread to work on Desire S, but unfortunately it looks like the vulnerability doesn't exist in Gingerbread anymore.

(cannot link the url because this is my first post here)
but i am not able to go beyond the first step.
in the hboot it does not pick up the sappimg.nbh file.
can you try it and see if it works. want to know if its the build or my device thats the problem.
thanks
First off, wrong section, this should be in General, not Development.
As for what your trying to do, try using the SuperOneClick method, found here. Your probably trying to root using the goldcard method which will work, but isn't what you want to do. Use the method I linked and let me know if it works. Hopefully, it will and didn't get patched.
frg83d build breaks 1 click root.
just read this article on theandroidphone dot com
2.2.1 is out, breaks 1-click root
1 click root will not work on this phone

I heard from somewhere that the 2.2.1 update fixes that flaw so the 1-click method is probably not going to work. If he uses the goldcard method it will downgrade his radio too since I am pretty sure this new update will also come with a new radio. Just recently, I used the update.zip method of flashing to the new radio and it went flawlessly. Not noticing any difference in it though regarding performance.
And yes I was feeling... dangerous when I flashed the radio.
EDIT: Oh! Thread moved.
LOL. Yes we do get the new radio. Saw someone post their system info on the t-mobile forums that had gotten the update. Hopefully we'll see a fix for one of the one-click root apps soon.

One click worked for me on my 2.2.1 without problem. What gave me problem is that new update was restoring origonal recovery after reboot. I believe best way to do it is flash 1.5 SAPPIMG or whatever that file called, than install rooted 1.6 and then already rooted froyo. Dont foeget to install recovery from amon ra or clockwork when you will be on 1.5. Tutorial on how to do it is in dasansrule post, link is in my tutorial: development/[custom Radio SPL] sticky

I am about ready to take the plunge and PermaRoot my MT4G. I do not believe I would be flashing every single type of rom out there - my intention is to install CM7 (one of the unofficial nightlies - i.e. grids 55 - or a variant of CM7). I have read both guides and threads to get PermaRoot and I am still unclear as to which of the two procedures that I need to do (the ULTIMATE guide seems like it has the potential to really brick the phone permanently - maybe I read that wrong?):
"Guide to permaroot, s=off AND s=on!!!!!"
-- or --
"TRUE PermaRoot and the ULTIMATE S=Off!!! Check this out even if you're rooted!!!"
perm rooting
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=858996
would follow these steps plus the engineering hboot, thats what I ended up doing and have no problems flashing roms.
I rooted via theunlockr.com. I have s =off too. No problems flashing roms. Great how to videos also.

i've done it both ways, and they both worked...the ultimate is of coz the best, as it gives u the eng hboot, and also unlocks the phone so you can use it with other sim card..it's a little deep, if you dont know what to do..but once you figure it out, it really is pretty routine..
Thank you all. Rooted and happily running cm7 9.

I wonder if a knowledgable person could help me.
I have followed the root guides for unrevoked, I have followed the procedures others have used when they had problems, and no luck.
Every time I try to root using unrevoked 3.22, in the HBOOT bit it complains that PC49DIAG/PC49IMG "not found" and fails.
Phone details:
OS: 2.24.161.2
Android 2.2.1
HBOOT stuff:
BUZZ PVT SHIP S-ON
HBOOT 1.01.0002
MICROP-0622
RADIO-3.35.20.10
It has a 2GB SD card, formatted as FAT32.
I have successfully installed the drivers so it shows up as "Android bootloader interface".
I've installed HTC Sync, run it, connected, uninstalled HTC Sync (not the drivers) and rebooted the PC. Still no-go.
PC is WinXP 32-bit.
Can someone suggest a next step? I've rooted/flashed countless phones but this one has me beat!
with HBOOT 1.01.0002 you cant root your phone ,yet.
Yes you cant root with hboot 1.x even if the froyo ROM is downgraded to eclair ROM the hboot remains same 1.x and ya its wrong place for asking this section is only for Rom Developers.
Ach, damn HTC.
Thanks for the replies, and sorry for posting in the wrong place.
hoping with the Alpharev X

You need to make your phone s-off first with an XTC clip.
I sent mine away to get done, cost £20.
I then downgraded to Android 2.1 then used unrevoked.
I'm now running CM7.

Sorry Barclay, I didn't understand that comment, but it sounded like you're accusing me of being annoying/obtuse.
Apologies if that's not what you meant.
One thing I forgot to mention was that I had to make a goldcard as, although the XTC clip is meant to do this, the place I got it done said to remove the SD card before sending the phone.
This stumped me a bit until I realised I had to make a goldcard.

If you had done any research at all you would known your device is not rootable without either an xtc clip. Or alpha rev X (which isnt released yet)

Check ur hboot menu first. If it has hboot 1.01 with S-ON, then it cannot be rooted by unrevoked as now. Only way presently for that hboot is using paid xtc clip which actually makes S-OFF, thus making the nand writable. Also search.

It looks like you have received the gingerbread update already. As of now, there is no method that will work to root your phone.
have you tried the unlocker method? is the only method that worked for me.

Has anyone tried using Fre3vo for the Gingerbread myTouch update?? On the website "TheUnlockr" there is a guide for downgrading on the G2 because no other rooting process would work either (like our situation).

Your only hope is to downgrade. No root process will work on your system as it is.

I had the same issue then i found this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1178912 follow the G2 method, when you get to the part where you put this in # /data/local/tmp/misc_version -s 1.19.531.1 make sure you put the version you want like 1.17.531.2 not 1.19.531.1 I used PD15IMG_Glacier_TMOUS_1.17.531.2_Radio_12.28b.60.140e_26.03.02.26_M_release_155771_signed renamed it PD15IMG then put it on sdcard
This is a thread from Nexus One forum:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1059116
You need to use PD15IMG instead of PASSIMG, the rest is the same. Change the file inside the stock 2.2.1 PD15IMG archive and try it.
Look at this post in the thread, someone has done it for Desire.

I've seen it asked and unanswered in random threads but I've never see a thread dedicated to the subject...
Is there anyone out there that has successfully downgraded and rooted their myTouch 4G with the 89 bootloader? If so, please break down the process for me because I have tried every possible method out there and gotten nowhere.
89 bootloader is gingerbread I think which has no way to be rooted yet is your phone gingerbread (android 2.3.4) If so u have to follow one of the downgrade guides back to froyo and a 85 bootloader then go about rooting your device with anyway u want
MyTouch HD (Black) - Virtuous Unity 2.39/Demonspeed v7/Beats/Bad Screen (DAMMIT)/Good Emmc
ah, i guess it's possible i'm asking the wrong question then. i assumed the bootloader number went unchanged after the upgrade to gingerbread and i'd always had 89. thank you for clearing that up. who knows what my problem is then, none of the exploits for downgrading have worked for me.
Theres a downgrade guide in the g2 forums for g2, mt4g, dhd & others. I used it last week to downgrade & it was a piece of cake. Did u give that a try? If not, check it out, it'll def work
