Can't root Wildfire (tried everything!) - Wildfire General

I wonder if a knowledgable person could help me.
I have followed the root guides for unrevoked, I have followed the procedures others have used when they had problems, and no luck.
Every time I try to root using unrevoked 3.22, in the HBOOT bit it complains that PC49DIAG/PC49IMG "not found" and fails.
Phone details:
OS: 2.24.161.2
Android 2.2.1
HBOOT stuff:
BUZZ PVT SHIP S-ON
HBOOT 1.01.0002
MICROP-0622
RADIO-3.35.20.10
It has a 2GB SD card, formatted as FAT32.
I have successfully installed the drivers so it shows up as "Android bootloader interface".
I've installed HTC Sync, run it, connected, uninstalled HTC Sync (not the drivers) and rebooted the PC. Still no-go.
PC is WinXP 32-bit.
Can someone suggest a next step? I've rooted/flashed countless phones but this one has me beat!

with HBOOT 1.01.0002 you cant root your phone ,yet.

Yes you cant root with hboot 1.x even if the froyo ROM is downgraded to eclair ROM the hboot remains same 1.x and ya its wrong place for asking this section is only for Rom Developers.

Ach, damn HTC.
Thanks for the replies, and sorry for posting in the wrong place.

hoping with the Alpharev X

You need to make your phone s-off first with an XTC clip.
I sent mine away to get done, cost £20.
I then downgraded to Android 2.1 then used unrevoked.
I'm now running CM7.

Sorry Barclay, I didn't understand that comment, but it sounded like you're accusing me of being annoying/obtuse.
Apologies if that's not what you meant.

One thing I forgot to mention was that I had to make a goldcard as, although the XTC clip is meant to do this, the place I got it done said to remove the SD card before sending the phone.
This stumped me a bit until I realised I had to make a goldcard.

If you had done any research at all you would known your device is not rootable without either an xtc clip. Or alpha rev X (which isnt released yet)

Check ur hboot menu first. If it has hboot 1.01 with S-ON, then it cannot be rooted by unrevoked as now. Only way presently for that hboot is using paid xtc clip which actually makes S-OFF, thus making the nand writable. Also search.

Haha, you couldn't script it.
Cheers for the backup btw scobodon. I may be stupid, but I do search a bit. heh.

No worries mate.

Having trouble rooting T Mobile G1 after OTA Update build DMD64?

I had an incredible amount of trouble rooting my G1 after i got the OTA update. I looked for answers everywhere and there weren't many, and way too many "do a forum search" answers on forums. As if i hadn't tried searching haha.
Luckily i finally figured out how to do it.
The solution is to create the Unlockr's Goldcard. This creates an SD card that gets around the security of your current build.
If you want to skip a lot of steps (1-8) in the Unlockr's method, download the Goldcard Helper from the Market. This gives you the number you need without using adb. If you have a PC you can follow the Unlockr's guide from step 8 on and create your Goldcard.
(edit: from here downgrade to 1.5 and one click root will probably work)
I am assuming that most of you can figure out the rest, since i'm really busy right now, but i want to open a thread to point people in the right direction. If I see people having trouble i'll make a [Guide] when i get some time.
For now, Good Luck, and if you have it, try Super D. You'll feel like that G1 is like new again!

Or you could just slap an rc29 .nbh file onto the sdcard, install that, and root as normal.
In theory...that's what everyone on forums keeps saying, but I was really frustrated because it doesn't work...at least it didn't work for me.
Were you ever able to do that successfully from the DMD64 build, or just rc30?
I don't know for sure, but I think a lot of people who were trying really hard to be helpful perhaps had rooted their phones before the last OTA update from T Mobile and therefore didn't realize there was a new problem.
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
There are a couple of different nbh files for matching the particular region of your hardware. This technique most definitely DOES work, but since DREAM was available as ADP, anybody who ever HAD to was, by definition, either retarded, or bought it from someone who was retarded.
Well, I downloaded every findable .nbh file and none were allowed until I put them on a "goldcard."
Yes, I tried everything in the forums to the letter. I think I chiefly had trouble because everyone responded to other people with the same problem saying "it works, you just need to [insert common solution that I already tried]"
But I don't mean offence because I really do know that you are just trying to be helpful.
I just mean that unless you *actually* have rooted a DMD64 build, and you may have FAIK, you might just be adding to the problem...

All that a goldcard does is it bypasses the CID check. If you do, in fact, have a tmobile branded phone with OEM firmware, then there is no benefit from a goldcard since the CID check will obviously pass since the hardware's CID matches the nbh's CID. Whatever you did differently that made the "goldcard" work had nothing to do with it being a goldcard.
Ah! You are smart! You actually just cleared up what happened with my phone and why I had so much trouble!
Here is what happened: I had just received the phone (Rogers branded) and was extremely new to Android and rooting. I attempted to root got it all done, running with cm6 etc. I overclocking it, but had made a mistake in one of my CPU speeds, freezing my phone. When I tried to reboot to recovery, I accidentally rebooted to hboot and the the t-mobile nbh was still on my SD and it installed. So I ended up with t-mobile stock 1.5. So now I had to go to work, and just left it with the uptake t-mobile Rom. In the middle of the day I got a "there is an update available" notice. I thought it was for an app (noob, I know) and let it update. That is how I got a Rogers branded phone with t-mobile 1.6 DMD64 software and why I needed the goldcard to re-flash the t-mobile cupcake!
Thanks for persisting with me and helping me figure out the mystery.
Cheers!

Thank you sir for finding this solution. I'm in almost the exact same shoes you were in. Noob to Android/rooting. Got this G1 from a friend with 1.6 DMD64 already on there. No root methods have worked so far. Going to try the goldcard sometime today. Will confirm whether it works..
Goldcard was what worked for me! 1-Click method, however, did not work.
Used the text-instructions/downloads from theunlocker.com. I can't post links on XDA yet, so the titles of the articles are "How To Root The HTC G1/Dream" with warnings of how it's an outdated method (but still the only one that works for my DMD64). Then I used "How To Load A Custom Rom On The HTC G1/Dream."
Did not use the videos on those websites...instead used a YouTube video for guidance. Its title is "How To Root Your T-Mobile G1 with Android 1.6 Pt 1."
Successfully running Cyanogen 6 now. Compared to 1.6...Ridiculous UI improvement and a ridiculous battery life decrease.
I tried em all, and gotta say thatv though I wanted android 2.x, Super D was IMHO, without a doubt, the best ROM for the G1.

and even then, now there is a better option after making s-off, as said in the previous post (except for the file name there should be PC49IMG.ZIP)
-just s-off by xtc clip
-install the clockworkmod custom recovery by PC49IMG.ZIP process (that zip file is somewhere in the forum)
-thats all. U can install any custom rom u want
Hmm, I look at this as a guide how to unlock NAND on your wildfire thread, and as that it's fine. Beside that it clearly states in the topic that xtc clip is used. So this is a XTC CLIP guide.
So those of you taking about free rooting, would you please take your business into some "why have unrevoked not rootet my phone free yet".
I see it so many places if some person gets in and talks about xtc clip in an unrevoked thread, he gets the message that he's off topic.
I'm sorry gentlemen but here those persons talking about Unrevoked and free root is actually off topic.

WOOHOO!!! Alot of struggle but I made it, I am happy human now.
Thanks anyway!
Hi all there is a single way of installing 2.2.1 rooted and recovery in one hit.
If you look here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1057524
you'll seem some PC49IMG.zip files i made with everything done for you.
I made them so it was easy for people that don't want a long list of do this and that you just put the file onto the SDCard reboot to the nice hboot loader and select yes when it asks for update.
It all works with no issues i test them myself after i made them.
Its the full hog, System,Data,Recovery,Boot on both images!
Here is a complete guide to generate a goldcard. It is very straight forward.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=8105075&postcount=42
Hope this helps
If your phone was really S-off by xtc clip. The CID should also changed to 1111.
In that case, together with the wildfire goldcard, u flash with the 2.1 offical rom (the one with .exe instead of zip and flash it).

At the moment you can't get permanant root on 2.2. You can get a temporary root, but that wont let you edit anything on /system. If you can find someone with an xtc clip you can get your phone S-OFF which makes /system writeable.
Downgrading seems to be easy based off the 2 or 3 step by step guides I've seen on this forum so far.
Your questions are no different to any of the ones asked before by others, please use the search next time.
Downgrading will work, but, it will still be unrootable. As said above, the only way as of now to root 2.2 is by using an XTC Clip hardware box to get S-OFF, then, downgrade (this is a 'proper' downgrade) and root.

I don't believe this. Because that process was not a newer one and was there long ago. If it worked, it must have became a lot popular by now. And "Universal Androot" is not a root application recommended for NAND locked devices like wildfire. If one has bypassed the nand security with xtc clip and made s-off, then this process might work. And once if u make s-off, there are many other rooting options available. But the point here is to root the wildfire with hboot 1.01 and S-ON dude.... Do not just stick with the thread title. Read the thread, he mentioned wildfire 2.2 clearly.
I doubt whether ur device is wildfire or not (if wildfire rooted or not). Check the below attached "Root and Me" application. In that, go to the root guides and check the compatible devices for "Universal Androot" process. There is no wildfire in that.
Just confirm any process after it worked with u guys.

U might not have asked this question if u know that his process is nothing but "Universal Androot".
Inspite of being aware, i just tried it for u. It won't work and says failed.
If anyone wants to recheck they might. Actually that process is little bit confusing. And im attaching a screen shot of that website below.
The process says to install "App installer" just to install an apk file. Cant we install an apk file from a file manager ? This is ok.
Then the process says just to enable usb debugging alone to transfer the apk file frm PC to wildfire. It not even says from ADB, so i expect it means to transfer through disk drive. Come on stop joking.
I found that this forum

was very helpful I am running droid 2.2 Froyo on a Cherry Mobile Candy
I was able to root my phone semi permanently. So long as I don't clear the data for the Z4root program I maintain superuser status. So far I have had no problems and have been able to remove bloatware using AntTek App manager with ease.
thanks man

Rooting New Gingerbread release

Well it is now official that gingerbread has been leak/released for our G2 and I'm sure lot of us who had soft bricks are happy to know we can unbrick it and now to our next problem rooting it
I have tried 2 ways so far first is the wiki way with psneutur and gfree, and other is temp root with visionary
My results for both came negative,
Gfree/ psneutur gave me permission denied after I pushed it in
Visionary jus gave me black screen
And gingerbreak requirs s-off
So let's gather info and or figure out a way to root new gingerbread if any tried downgrade method let all us know with steps what you did
Here is the info for new gingerbread
Ship s-on
Hboot 0.82.0008
Radio 26.08.04.30M3
eMMC-boot
Apr 13 2011,
So hope we can find solution to root and we can get custom roms back on it
you need to try to gain temproot with gingerbreak. can you please come over #g2root ?
I just said I tempted and it just stuck on trying to root nothing happen and I will go what irc server? Freenode?

Visionary (as evidence by the sticky at the top of the dev phone saying DONT USE VISIONARY TO PERM ROOT) has bricked many a phones that have only now been able to be fixed. I think its just a trust issue and comes to down to each individual and what they personally think and believe I personally would never use visionary again no matter how many times its updated or "fixed". The trust has been broken.
Idk why there's hate on visionary... I rooted my phone the second day the process was released and I've never had an issue since...? And I've rooted 2 other g2s well after and still never had any issues... just followed instructions. I understand it can brick your phone, but then again... was it really visionary that bricked it? Or was it an user error placing blame?? Just saying....

yeah i rooted my g2 using the visionary method and have had no issues. and it seems like a lot of the bricking has occurred since i rooted, so i dont get it.
i did visionary root with success, but put yourself in the other end of ppls shoes who did use visinary an you get a brick and no way out of it, other than have gfree with jus pushing, and everythign else is done for you, i would go that route than a higher chance of bricking,
But this thread is not bout bricking this is about how to obtain root on the new stock rom that is out
Yes please! if anyone finds out how to root the G2 with stock Gingerbread could you please post! thanks in advance!

user error? lol in a one-click root... maybe they were pressing the top right corner of the button and that's their error lol
I don't know, either, but there has to be some reasonable explanation, doesn't there? After all, many people (myself included) had no trouble rooting with Visionary. OTOH, this is my second G2 - the first went back under warranty. With the first one, Visionary was unsuccessful at perm-rooting. This one, worked on the first try. Odd? Computers are NOT supposed to behave randomly - so why the difference?
when someone comes up with the visionary source, there are people that can understand it. until then it's a black box.
+1
I'm in the same boat. I just got a brand new G2 off craigslist, and was very happy to see that it had gingerbread. But to my extreme dissappointment, I cannot root it or downgrade it to gain root. Below are the things I have tried and didnt work.
Visionary
Gingerbreak (v1,0, 1.1, 1.2)
Rage
Super One-click
Z4Root
Androot
Gold card, for downgrading, also tried Gold card with above root methods.
I have also tried taking the stock Froyo PC10IMG and modified the info txt to read it as a newer version, and it loaded it, checked it, then just went back to the bootloader screen like there was no image there at all. Last night I was thinking that if I pulled the internal battery (the little tiny one) then it would lose its info, allowing me to load any PC10IMG I wanted. NOPE. Rom and all its info and settings are still intact. Weird, cuz I thought that's what that little battery was for. So, I'm out of options. I love the rom, it's fast as hell and the battery life is far better than when I had my last G2. I just wanna overclock, add some sounds without using Zedge or something (want internal mods that arent dependant on memory using apps), and do some theming. Oh, and removing that horrible pink bloat >:]
I just know that our awesome Devs will come up with something.
XDA ROCKS!!!!!
Waiting?!
Any updates regarding the root?
I tried everything, and nothing works.
I even tried to resend it to the repair center to get froyo, they returned it back saying that they could no longer Downgrade it!
well this is my argument, you can call them and ask them for one that is froyo
complain to them that you have netflix and paying for a service to use on your phone reason why you got it, and since "THEY" updated and made it unsuably they are obligated to give you one that can use netflix or a replacement that can use it as they have done something that was not confirmed with you if you sent it for simple repair, you did not get your phone back to how it was you got something different...
start this fight you will probably end up with a mytouch 4g

Hi!
The config options that you would have to change are written to the emmc on partition17 (main version) or partition7 (S-OFF, SuperCID, SIM-Lock) so that will not change if you pull any kind of battery.
The only chance to root this rom is that we find a new temp-root method and then do the usual things (misc_version, goldcard, downgrade, gfree, ...)
I do not expect that someone publishes a new temp-root before either T-Mobile/HTC rolled out the OTA or a different device running 2.3.4 really needs it.
Have fun - Guhl

The only chance to root this rom is that we find a new temp-root method and then do the usual things (misc_version, goldcard, downgrade, gfree, ...)
I do not expect that someone publishes a new temp-root before either T-Mobile/HTC rolled out the OTA or a different device running 2.3.4 really needs it.
Have fun - Guhl

Either demand it now and be greedy, or wait and it will be universal. =]

Help to get from 0.80.0008 to 1.00.0001

Hi, I managed to get root rights on my TESCO wildfire, but can't progress because I can't S-OFF most probably becuase my HBoot is 0.80.0008.
Can anyone pls give idiots guide to get me to S-OFF from my present HBOOT?
I've scoured this forum and cannot one bit of useful advice regarding how to get S-OFF with a HBOOT @ 0.80.0008.
Somebody help PLEASE :-(

you need to run a ruu to update your hboot the use revolutionary to s-0ff.

thanks for the reply, but its not idiotproof enough for me :-(
the linked post doesn't tell me anything. If I need to run an 'RUU'....then can you please post a link to an appropriate RUU ?
try http://shipped-roms.com/
just update with a current rom. the executable lets you easily "update" your firmware. please make sure you save all your data before updating your firmware. after that you should be on 1.00.0001
ok heres the plan man. follow this guide, it should have all the links and info youll need.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1145035&highlight=how+to+s-off+hboot+1.01.002
now, this says that some people are having trouble DOWNGRADING there h-boot but this shouldnt be an issue since your upgrading. use thee link in the post above and download the ruu HTC Froyo WWE and flash it. then ignore the first step in the tutorial as you should now have hboot 1.01.0001 and start at revolutionary.
just follow the rest rest of the guide and you *should* be able to get it done. (i dont know as ive never done it)
good luck
ok thanks, I found out what the problem was. I have a TESCO model and there were two roms. 1.28.1107.1 & .2. I had the .1 on my phone and it wouldn't update. As soon as I put the .2 rom on, it allowed an auto update which set my HBoot to 1.01.0002
next problem..........I can't run the step1 on the BUZZ downgrade package. I run it as an admin but its as if the abp code isn't working ( I'm on win7 if that helps ).
I have got past this point before when I updated my daughters wildfire, but the PC I had at the time was on XP.
And also the goldcard gen site is dead :-( http://psas.revskills.de/?q=goldcard
bizarrely .. http://psas.revskills.de/?q=goldcard seemed to open.
and the rest is history,
I'm running revolutionary as I'm typeing this post....
so how did you get on my friend?
