any suggestions??

It looks like you have received the gingerbread update already. As of now, there is no method that will work to root your phone.

have you tried the unlocker method? is the only method that worked for me.

nah u got a link

Has anyone tried using Fre3vo for the Gingerbread myTouch update?? On the website "TheUnlockr" there is a guide for downgrading on the G2 because no other rooting process would work either (like our situation).

but, i didnt realize youre already on ginger update though so i dont know if it will still work.

Your only hope is to downgrade. No root process will work on your system as it is.

Any ideas on how to downgrade cause keep getting installed version newer.... and I've tried goldcard method and it doesn't work same error

I had the same issue then i found this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1178912 follow the G2 method, when you get to the part where you put this in # /data/local/tmp/misc_version -s 1.19.531.1 make sure you put the version you want like 1.17.531.2 not 1.19.531.1 I used PD15IMG_Glacier_TMOUS_1.17.531.2_Radio_12.28b.60.140e_26.03.02.26_M_release_155771_signed renamed it PD15IMG then put it on sdcard

This is a thread from Nexus One forum:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1059116
You need to use PD15IMG instead of PASSIMG, the rest is the same. Change the file inside the stock 2.2.1 PD15IMG archive and try it.
Look at this post in the thread, someone has done it for Desire.

all of the how to's are exactly the same. just different information in each one.
I unrooted my phone and followed This Walk-though and it worked perfectly. no if/ands/buts about it.
If that seems to complicated you can always follow The Unlockr's method it's REALLY simple and easy to follow.

MAKE SURE YOU BACKUP ANY USEFUL INFORMATION OR APPS FROM YOUR PHONE, BECAUSE YOUR ROM IS GOING TO BE WIPED.
First download the attachment. Remove the numbers from the name of the file so that it is renamed PC36IMG and place this on the root of your SD card. Power off the phone, then boot into your bootloader by holding the volume down and power buttons at the same time. Accept the update. If everything went OK, that should get rid of that Revolutionary at the top of your bootloader and flash the phone back to S-ON.
Next remove the file from your SD card by either rebooting your phone or going into your RECOVERY. I'm not going to give all the details for this.
Next, download this file.
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=VSFLE9CD
Rename it PC36IMG, place it on your SD card and follow the same steps as you did with the first PC36IMG file.
Let me know if that worked, because how to unroot the phone has seemed to be forgotten around here. Everyone is just happy to root.

That doesn't work completely for Gingerbread.
You can downgrade the ROM back to Froyo, but the S-ON tool will not work with the new bootloader, and the bootloader will not downgrade by running any of the PC36IMG Froyo files or RUUs if Revolutionary was used to turn S-OFF.
Assuming that you mean to unroot and regain S-OFF on an Evo 4G that was rooted using Revolutionary...
It seems that this has been worked out.

Oh by the way, thanks for the S-ON solution Captain. I thought of your idea about a week ago with the bootloader, and have a hex editor, but did not think it all the way through at the time.

You need to flash an unrooted stock ROM to roll back your HBOOT to an upgradable version. I assume you used the modded 6.17 HBOOT to S-ON, but didn't flash a stock ROM to restore your HBOOT to stock?
Because the modded HBOOT is a higher version number than Revolutionary, most likely it believes you're already rooted.
I used RUU to update my phone to latest stock Rom and flashed the attachment on this thread

You essentially have two options:
- Run the RUU (ROM Update Utility) for the latest stock ROM on your PC
- Flash the latest stock ROM, in PC36IMG.zip format through FastBoot
Files for either/both of those can be found in my post here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=17206283&postcount=5

You can easily sell the phone with S-OFF. It can actually increase the value to so wanna be tech nerd who's too afraid to turn S-OFF himself.
Seriously go pick any phone and look them up on eBay. The rooted ones usually sell for more than the unrooted ones.

Root it real quick!
All you need is to put the 2.2 PD15IMG.zip on your SD card and reboot into bootloader and you'll have a 2.2 phone pretty quick. Then you can run Visionary and you'll be set. Should take a total of 15 minutes, including the time to download 2.2 and Visionary.
Then you'll have a fully rooted S-Off phone to sell on eBay. Be sure to put that in big letters in the auction description.

This is the thread you need if you have S-OFF already and want to root it:

The first PD15IMG.zip in that thread gives you Clockwork Recovery, and then you can boot into that to apply the Superuser zip:

Also if you have S-Off already, you can downgrade to 2.2.1 using the appropriate RUU or PD15IMG.zip, and it won't care about version number.

You can if you have the downgraded bootloader can't you? And if he's got S OFF I assumed the bootloader was already downgraded.
In any case, it's super easy to downgrade it and fully root it no matter what the steps are. And if it's rooted it's worth more on eBay

Downgrade and unlock sim

So I'm running vu 2.39 on my phone and I had rooted the phone using the root.sh/visionary method, not the gfree method. Now that I'm comfortable with it, I was trying to figure out how to unlock my phone. After backing up my phone, should I install the rooted stock rom, unroot using visionary, and then root using the gfree method OR install an unrooted stock rom (which I assume will restore everything back to factory) and then gfree OR something else??

You need to flash not only the stock 2.2.1 ROM but also the appropriate bootloader and possibly radio, to run Gfree. The easiest way to get all of that at once is to PD15IMG.zip or RUU back to that ROM after doing your nandroid backup. Then follow the full instructions for temp root and Gfree, and that's when you can enter the command that gets Gfree to SIM-unlock your phone. Once you've installed Clockwork again, revert to your nandroid backup.

I followed this yesterday from stock 2.3.4 unrooted and it worked. Its rooted running Virtuous unity, and unlocked I tried my friends simple mobile sim and it worked.

By the way 2.3.4 is Gingerbread, I have a MyTouch 4G, and I have the stock ROM from T-Mobile update on it. My question is, is there anyway to root 2.3.4?
[Not Edited, but thought I should add] If there is no way to root 2.3.4, I will downgrade to 2.3.3. (If someone wants to help me with that, please, I will be glad)

Fine, guy. I did research, just wanted to see if there is any current ways, because everything I read is from 2011 about Gingerbread not having any roots for 2.3.4. Guest ill just downgrade, thank you anyways.

you must downgrade to 2.2.1 froyo
there are "methods" to root from 2.3.4 but all don't work or will brick your phone.
most of them are the one click methods which you should avoid anyway.
downgrading only takes a sec just follow this thread to downgrade

then this one to root

After doing that, how do you get back to 2.3.4 without losing root privileges?
You install custom recovery and flash a pre-rooted 2.3.4 ROM.
There's always an option to remove HBOOT from the 2.3.4 PD15IMG.ZIP and flash it through HBOOT, and then install a custom recovery and flash su.zip in it. But it's a bit more complicated.

download a custom gingerbread rom
here is one that's pretty popular;
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1504718
If you are S-Off
Grab Froyo 2.2.1 zip from this forum. Make sure it is called PD15IMG.zip and place it on the root of your sdcard
Shut phone off & boot into HBoot (vol down + pwr button)
Have it load the PD15IMG.zip file and once its done your phone will be back to running Froyo.
Now grab Visionary+ & root.rar (from this forum) & a terminal emulator & a file explorer.
Put visonary+.apk on your sdcard and run it via file explorer for temp root
Extract root.sh to /sdcard/root
now load up terminal emulator and type:
su
cd /sdcard/root
sh root.sh
Let it run (takes a minute sometimes)
Once that is done go back to Visionary+ and "Perm root" reboot and you should have perm root.
Now just Clockword Rom manager and you can flash whatever ICS rom you want. (running CM9-unofficial personally)
I wish i could remove a thanks.
This will only work if the phone has a good eMMC chipset. If they have a bad one. it will not work.

This will only work if the phone has a good eMMC chipset. If they have a bad one. it will not work.

Not completely true. I've already rooted a few mt4g with bad chips. 2 being my girls and my brothers mt4g.
Using root.sh? Or perhaps using gfree?

The "bad" chip only roots with gfree. I tried root.sh. It just looked at me ans scoffed.

Never used gfree since I don't own a PC. All bad chip mt4g I've rooted have been rooted within the device with visionary and root.sh method from the unlockr.
I have only ever followed the guide on XDA for ultimate S=OFF rooting guide using visionary, seems to work the best.

I used gfree without a PC. Terminal emulator ftw.

trying to root via gfee and can't get visionary to work, it just says "rooting" forever. I'm on stock Froyo... any idea?

Gave up on root.sh? Lol. Make sure usb debugging is enabled and reboot between attempts.
Ya figured gfree was better plus Sim unlock. I did both of those. Still same thing
