u8800 is a very sturdy phone :D - Huawei Ideos X5 U8800

I dropped my phone to ****ty water where it stayed for 5 hours... after that it went to police station where it was 2 days wet in a minigrip bag. After that i washed my phone, blowed it dry with hair dryer. For few weeks my vibration did not work but starded working. Second problem was GPS that did not work. But today it started working. Just wanted to share this info with you. Great phone.

Lucky man my luck it would all be stuff

I can't really agree:
I got in a really terrible rain with my X5 in my trouser pocket, I got soaked. Back in the car I took the battery out of the phone and dried it as best as I could.
At home I removed the SIM card and the SD card and let the phone dry for a week.
It's been two weeks now, the phone starts up, but you can't slide the unlock slider all the way to the right - it looks like the touchscreen isn't working in the rightmost 1 or 1,5 cm of the screen.
Also you can still see a few faint stains under the touchscreen.

I hope I will not have to test it but it is nice to know that a few drops will not harm it..
By the way (excuse me if I'm hijacking the thread) are those screen protectors that use a liquid "solution" in order to apply safe (enter the phone throught the speaker mic etc)?

RIP - Drowned Galaxy S

Went to fix the boiler yesterday, thought best take my Galaxy S out my shirt pocket in case it falls in the toilet.
You guessed it. As taking it out dropped it in the bloody toilet!
Its resting in rice at the moment but as it was turned on I am not holding out much hope.
3 months into a 24 monther!
Oh well looks like one of those Palm Pixies that O2 are knocking out cheap is on the cards.
Best dam phone I ever owned!
SS
I posted a HOWTO further down as I tackled a similar problem succesfully yesterday;-)
May the force be with you

Easy! This phone might not be dead (only in comma).
This same thing happened to my wife last week with an Omnia2 and it looked dead, but she proptly removed the battery and after drying it... It's alive and well again.
Just pray... and wait
You may want to wait a full day before you turn it on again. Please let us know
let it dry thoroughly
and you may want to try another battery
10 years ago i dropped a motorola startac in the loo as I was cleaning it
it still works on the charger!!!
just be patient and let it dry well (two days)
oh man that sucks, update us if it's still alive..
Went fishing last week and after a full day on the boat I realized my dad had put my bag (with ipod) in the live well instead of the dry area. The thing was DEAD for about 3 days and sitting in the rice jar for 48 hrs AMAZINGLY brought it back to life.
Ow and since I´m in Brazil an iPod here costs ARM+LEG so I´m a very happy camper now.
Wait and be happy!
Latest news after a few days drying.
Turns on but screen is grey. It used to show very faint lines. Like the screen matrix lines.
Now it turns on and screen is just grey.
Occasionally get flashes of the Samsung splash screen and I did try the 3 button recovery mode and once I saw a flash of green and the little robot.
Maybe all is not lost. Its back in the rice at the moment! Not sure what we are having with our sweet n sour tomorrow night though!

No sorry was Saturday.
I keep the hope but have always fancied a play with a Palm WebOS.
Still I am missing the Galaxy S. I want it back! Live damn you live!!!
You never know, my son poured a glass of sticky fruit juice on my laptop. Came out of every hole. Turned it off quick. Stripped it down as much as possible, got to unlock all the ribbon connectors, water sits right in there. Soaked it in Isopropyl alcohol. Binds to the water and draws it out. Let it dry for a few days and it fired right up. Also had to strip my SGS, screen was messing about, found the main screen connector hanging off. Anyway comes apart quite easily, just a few small screws and some gently pulling on the bezel edge.

64 quid is better that whats its worth for the whole two year contract lol
Last time I drowned a phone i managed to rescue it by sticking it infront of a dehumidifier and max for a day. Also dont forget if u drown a phone take the battery out ASAP so not cause any further damage.
As soon as I saw the title of this thread, my heart sank. Hope it works but if not its definitely worth the Money to fix it
Put it on a hot place(not to hot)
That help it to dry.
You can also use a hairdryer over the backside. Do it gently and don't make the phone to hot.
When foe put it in the rise jar again for a day or two.

Well guys it is at a Samsung service centre being looked at.
They give cause for hope and think up to £60 to fix it.
Should know if it is viable to fix by tomorrow afternoon.
Keep your fingers crossed!
Good luck with the repairs. Hopefully you get it working 100% without costing you too much.
One warning I have for people with regards to the alcohol bath. I spilled beer all over my old BlackBerry Storm and after I dried it out the buttons were all sticking but at least the phone worked. People kept suggesting to bath the phone in 99% alcohol. I decided to try it. Well it definitely cleaned out all the sticky beer but it also leeched in between the layers of the touchscreen and left some permanent clouds and wet spots under the screen. The phone worked fine but the display looked a bit messed up. I'm not sure if the Galaxy S could suffer from the same effects but I thought I would share this experience in case someone is thinking about trying it.

Dropped my desire hd

So, today I dropped my dhd.... literally 3 feet, nothing crazy..... and it has a full body invisible shield and an otterbox case.... it did land on a corner, wood floor.... now, when I go to wake the phone up.... it turns on. It is randomly powering off since the very, gentle fall.....
It does not make a lot of sense, any thoughts or recommendations appreciated.

try taking out your cards and battery, the drop may have un seated them
first thing I tried.... clips look good, battery looks good, phone looks great.... when I put in my second battery... it seemed to be running well, until 6 minutes ago, when I pressed the power button... silly phone was off again.
I powered down, ejected all 3 items, placed them all back in.... it was such a harmless fall, with a full protected phone....
sounds like something may have become loose, i sense a rma back to htc if a full wipe etc dosnt solve it
not 100% sure, but after pushing the sim card out and in again... has not happened since.... I hope as heck it is ok, such a simple drop, heh!
thx
I'ved dropped my phone like a thousand times but nothing like this has happend too me!
I think HTC will replace on you warranty for this... Ask them!
sim card not making connections properlly will cause the phone to reboot, as i found out when i first got my desire hd, my 15 year old simcard was too worn to make a clean connection. once i went down to the tmobile shop they descovered it was that at fault after i said the phone was knackard.
simcards will compress very slightly over its life causing poorer connections.
if the problem has now dissapeared it may be worth your while getting a new sim if it is of age.

Yep, t-mobile has always been good to me (actually the card was 121 printed on it).
Hello guys,
Funny thing, I gave my dad a DHD to play around with (hoping that he will finally get rid of his BB), just a few days ago in his office he mistakingly dropped it 7 floors down to the parking lot.
Amazing, just amazing, except a few bumps here and there, a cracked Sim cover and a bit broken battery cover, the DHD came back to working without and problem.
I am sure if it did not happen to me I would have been sceptic, but IT REALLY HAPPENED.
Thumbs up htc for a strong unit.
I dropped mine from my pocket and nothing happened, not even a scratch.
I'm gonna report an incident I've reported again in the forums.
When I first got my DHD,about one week if I remember well,I went for a drink with some friends. Before we went to the pub we usually go to,we wanted to eat something,so we went to this fast food. While we were waiting for our food,we were saying the usual bull**** we always say with the guys.Sometimes though we tend to pull the strings, and I told one of them off badly,so he decided to punch my leg.Unfortunately, with his full strength, his fist landed on my new, shiny and unprotected DHD,which was in my pocket. As soon as I realised it,my heart went at the kidney's place, the kidney went at my stomach's place and my stomach went all the way to my head out fear!
Next day?My DHD was like nothing happened and my pal's hand was almost broken.
Yep,thumbs up HTC!
yea, it was pretty weird and once in a while... I hit the power button and it is OFF again, not rebooting... off, hitting the wake button turns it back on.... might be software etc....
but on that day, it was happening every 2o minutes, lol
I love htcs design.

Do you have another battery? Try that. Might also be the USB charging cable. If you can, request another. They should replace mobile if still under warranty.

Thanks for your replies.Yes i tried a new battery. It 's the same.Phone is under warranty.SE should give me a new phone or replace the motherboard. :/
They wont give you a new phone, mine has the exact same problem an they trying to say it was dropped and got damaged that way, they gave me a replacement which condition older than one I sent in, then it died again couple months later. And now they wont do anything. I bought mine less than a year ago.

who know where can get a new motherboard?
thanks
Take it back again and again and again.
Be persistent.
Sorry to hear that mate... if it would be in my hands, I've swapped it...
SEMC official routines doesn't include even Neocore for stress testing, as Desire has, few X10's had also defective Snapdragons, not that many as HTC had tough...
Just try again, maybe it will venture into more skillful repair technician...
I hope but i don't think so..I will try one more time and If they don't fix it i will sell it to ebay if someone want it for spare parts.
Motherboard Issue on x10a
I bought one of these second hand and I got ripped off. Without warranty I was pretty much stuck when the phone began freezing, rebooting, getting hot and just plain sucking. I upgraded the phone from 1.6 Android to 2.1 then to 2.3. Nothing helped. Beautiful phone but this one's a dud.
Well with nothing to lose I thought long and hard, explored the options and came to one conclusion. I was time to open this thing up and see if I could fix it myself. I downloaded the instructions from the net and went to work. The first time I opened it, cleaned it and flattened out the bubbles that I found on the CPU's copper tape.
I wasn't thinking that that was all that was wrong, and I was right. It still acted up and froze/rebooted. Well I ordered a new phone and when it arrived I decided to do something that I never would have done unless I had the replacement phone to use.
I opened up the X10a once again. Stripped out the PCB (mainboard) from the phone, removed all copper tape, and black tape that covered other components on the PCB. I then covered the PCB in tinfoil but clipped out around the CPU to let it bake more so than the rest of the board. I used a convection oven with the fan turned ON, set it to 210 degrees Celsius, let it heat up for a good long time (20 mins). Laying the PCB perfectly level was tricky, but not impossible. I made sure the CPU was facing up. I used an upside down ceramic plate for the baking surface. I placed the plate with the PCB into the convection oven and baked it for 10 minutes.
After 10 minutes, I shut the oven off, left the door closed for a minute then propped it partially open for another 2 minutes. After that I opened it up over half way and left it alone for 30 minutes. After that I removed it from the oven and let it sit for another 30 minutes. After that I put it all back together and prayed. Not literally.
I seems to have worked. Before this I couldn't play a game and listen to music or browse the web VIA WIFI and listen to music at the same time for longer than five minutes before the phone would reboot/freeze. I have been playing music and playing games for WAY longer than that now. Same with browsing and music. No problems..Yet. If you're even remotely interested I'll keep you updated. I recorded the entire process and I will be uploading it to youtube later.
I'm so glad this seems to have done the trick, but with a lot of re-bake / hack reflows It may only be a temporary fix. Well, IMO, better that then having a 1/4 functioning "smart" phone. It worked for me, it might now for you, so if you attempt it and over bake your phone's PCB mainboard don't blame me.
As a side note, I am typing this from a Dell Inspiron 9400 laptop. Last year this laptop died due to a flaw in the video card. I rebaked the video card in my home oven and it fixed the problem. Up until now, a year and counting I haven't had an issue with it. Knocking on wood (literally).

[TOILET AGAIN]Another loser has dropped the SGS right there

Hey, guys. I know there are dozens of threads talking about that, but mine is quite specific. First, the toilet disaster highlights one-to-one:
- phone sitting by the sink, which is close to toilet
- stupid movement and there it was, Skype was on.
- took 3 seconds to ignore all the human dignity I'd had and took the SGS from the water
- removed a crappy silicone cover (this one saved me from a more serious accident) very fast and removed the battery as fast as
- towel, paper-towel, rags
- rice bowl
- youtube video showing disassembly instructions (pretty easy)
- contact cleaner
- rice bowl again
It worked perfectly 24 hours later! Screen on, sound ok... very easy device to open.
Everything was fine until I accidentally hit the voice search and the "sound level meter" didn't move.
Microphone is not working since then. Doesn't work for calls, video with sound, audio note... It works fine with the stock earphone though.
Yes, I restored to factory settings.
Yes, I reflashed and reinstalled the ROM.
When I BLOW (with my mouth) into the mic, nothing happens. But when I SUCK it, the michophone seems to "catch" all the noise. Is this a signal of hope?
I opened it again and sprayed a good contact cleaner, right into the mic. No changes.
ANY HELP WILL BE APPRECIATED!!!
Phone was placed on the sink with "Skype on". Hmmmm

Oh man grodiest i9000 thread ever.
Did you ever think about to replace the mic?? If ya say its easy to open the phone then you wont have problems to replace the mic I actually dont think its too expansive for ya. So actually its funny to read but I fell with ya. But you shouldnt use skype on the toilet my phone is waiting outside of the bath room, when I'm makin the big deal on the toilet xD
good luck dude
24 hours is way to short to remove water stuck between board and smd components. I think you fired it up to soon. Electronics dont repair themselves, once broken you need to replace parts to get things going again.
Only luck or a wallet can save you now im afraid.
Aww dude no way !!!.
I have had my fair share of phones falling into the loo, Luckily not with my SGS, but with my tocco and my spica.
My tocco survived after leaving it dry on the radiator for a day (on low low temperature)
My spica survived but needed a new screen. which was surprisingly cheap (not genuine part)
Just for my own amusement, Was it a number one or a number two you was doing at the time ?
Funny comments, But serious matter. Take their advice and leave it dry out a little more, You could of made it worse by powering it up. But lets not jump to conclusions just yet,
If drying it out for longer dont work. See if you can make a bit of cash by selling it for parts on ebay or similar.
Oh and is it on a contract ? if so do you have insurance ? or are you close to a renewal ?
Good luck, Hope you get a good outcome

Obviously you will have to mention the water damage.
But some people do buy broken / water damaged stuff.
Might not get a lot of money but it could be better than throwing it in the bin
My phone got drowned in the bottom of bag with a leaking water bottle, similar thing, phone worked but the mic wasn't 100% and the center button did not work at all. Purchased a replacement 3 button membrane they call it off ebay for $25 from UK. The mic is built onto this membrane. Funnily enough button started to work the day before it arrived but I will still replace the membrane just to know the mic is 100% as sometimes it comes across scratchy on the other end.
Hope all goes well for you.

Last time I flooded a phone (lake, beer, boat, he he), I used a food dehydrator. 24 hours in that gadget and all was well. Just last week my brother jumped into the water with his iPhone in the pocket. Same procedure and 24 hours later his phone lives.

My phone is currently sitting in a bowl of rice =(

So i was playing table tennis earlier today .. when i stopped , i decided to check my messages on my phone , but it wasnt working . The phone itself worked allright , the controls too but the touchscreen wasnt working at all .
I googled and found that moisture can damage the digitizer... as a desperate attempt i filled a bowl with rice and dropped the phone right =(
God have mercy on my phone
By any chance, have you tried rebooting it before doing said steps?
Yes , i tried rebooting it like 10 times and doing a battery pull .
The touchscreen worked in the corners of the screen only , so it must be the moisture i think .
ive got some good news, near the beginging of augest i dropped my phone in a puddle, dried it out and everything but it didnt work, it took ages to turn on and touchscreen didnt work. no shops could fix it, so i left it on my windowsill and bought a blackberry, i tried it every week and it didnt work.
so the other day i decided to try it again just coz i can. (nearly 4months later) it works perfectly, i was so happy coz the xperia play is the only phone i really like.
so my adivce if it doesnt work anytime soon, if you really want this phone, just leave it for a while, you could get lucky like me!
My Play digitizer stopped working completely due to applying wet screen protector.
Then I put one my Nexus today. And it made to power button stop working, I had to open it to dry it. Guess I didn't learn the lesson the first time.
