My phone is currently sitting in a bowl of rice =( - Xperia Play General

So i was playing table tennis earlier today .. when i stopped , i decided to check my messages on my phone , but it wasnt working . The phone itself worked allright , the controls too but the touchscreen wasnt working at all .
I googled and found that moisture can damage the digitizer... as a desperate attempt i filled a bowl with rice and dropped the phone right =(
God have mercy on my phone

By any chance, have you tried rebooting it before doing said steps?

Yes , i tried rebooting it like 10 times and doing a battery pull .
The touchscreen worked in the corners of the screen only , so it must be the moisture i think .

ive got some good news, near the beginging of augest i dropped my phone in a puddle, dried it out and everything but it didnt work, it took ages to turn on and touchscreen didnt work. no shops could fix it, so i left it on my windowsill and bought a blackberry, i tried it every week and it didnt work.
so the other day i decided to try it again just coz i can. (nearly 4months later) it works perfectly, i was so happy coz the xperia play is the only phone i really like.
so my adivce if it doesnt work anytime soon, if you really want this phone, just leave it for a while, you could get lucky like me!

My Play digitizer stopped working completely due to applying wet screen protector.
Then I put one my Nexus today. And it made to power button stop working, I had to open it to dry it. Guess I didn't learn the lesson the first time.

Disassemble it and clean it with denatured alcohol / hydrocarbon solution (eg methylated spirits).

I already ordered the digitizer (20usd ;_ ... i still decided to turn it on today and behold! ... Its working again @[email protected]
The only problem i have noticed is that the lower corner registers as the middle of the screen

[Q] Water/Moisture Damaged Legend?

Used my Legend in the rain today for about 2 minutes! The touchscreen is very kinda dodgy! I'm using SuperFroyo 8.4.2 and the lockscreen isn't working, and whenever i try to go to select something the notifications screen is pulled down
Using screen protector? If yes that may be your problem.

Nope no screen protector Thank god it righted itself! Its perfect now, moisture probably dried!!
Lol, I remember when I had this problem with my old Storm, it was like there was a big grey circle in the middle of the surepress screen, I freaked out because it was a new phone and all, I was hysterical when it dried.

Hehe last time i went to brazil on vacation i stopped by my sisters place in Portugal while enjoying the sun and the swimming pool in her backyard.
When i arrived in Brazil i just couldnt understand where my nokia 5140 from work had gone.
When i returned i passed tru my sis's house again for the last weekend before heading back home to the netherlands.
When i wanted to jump into the pool i noticed something on the bottom floor , I dived in and found my nokia5140! while shocked i lay it completely open in the sun to dry , phew hours later i tryed to boot it up while charging , guess what it friggin worked after lying there 2 weeks at the bottom of her pool omg. When i arrived in the netherlands it didnt take long tho to stop working completely ,maybe a week or so. But still that was somewhat amazing that it still worked after 2 weeks of water fun.

Dropped my desire hd

So, today I dropped my dhd.... literally 3 feet, nothing crazy..... and it has a full body invisible shield and an otterbox case.... it did land on a corner, wood floor.... now, when I go to wake the phone up.... it turns on. It is randomly powering off since the very, gentle fall.....
It does not make a lot of sense, any thoughts or recommendations appreciated.

try taking out your cards and battery, the drop may have un seated them
first thing I tried.... clips look good, battery looks good, phone looks great.... when I put in my second battery... it seemed to be running well, until 6 minutes ago, when I pressed the power button... silly phone was off again.
I powered down, ejected all 3 items, placed them all back in.... it was such a harmless fall, with a full protected phone....
sounds like something may have become loose, i sense a rma back to htc if a full wipe etc dosnt solve it
not 100% sure, but after pushing the sim card out and in again... has not happened since.... I hope as heck it is ok, such a simple drop, heh!
thx
I'ved dropped my phone like a thousand times but nothing like this has happend too me!
I think HTC will replace on you warranty for this... Ask them!
sim card not making connections properlly will cause the phone to reboot, as i found out when i first got my desire hd, my 15 year old simcard was too worn to make a clean connection. once i went down to the tmobile shop they descovered it was that at fault after i said the phone was knackard.
simcards will compress very slightly over its life causing poorer connections.
if the problem has now dissapeared it may be worth your while getting a new sim if it is of age.

Yep, t-mobile has always been good to me (actually the card was 121 printed on it).
Hello guys,
Funny thing, I gave my dad a DHD to play around with (hoping that he will finally get rid of his BB), just a few days ago in his office he mistakingly dropped it 7 floors down to the parking lot.
Amazing, just amazing, except a few bumps here and there, a cracked Sim cover and a bit broken battery cover, the DHD came back to working without and problem.
I am sure if it did not happen to me I would have been sceptic, but IT REALLY HAPPENED.
Thumbs up htc for a strong unit.
I dropped mine from my pocket and nothing happened, not even a scratch.
I'm gonna report an incident I've reported again in the forums.
When I first got my DHD,about one week if I remember well,I went for a drink with some friends. Before we went to the pub we usually go to,we wanted to eat something,so we went to this fast food. While we were waiting for our food,we were saying the usual bull**** we always say with the guys.Sometimes though we tend to pull the strings, and I told one of them off badly,so he decided to punch my leg.Unfortunately, with his full strength, his fist landed on my new, shiny and unprotected DHD,which was in my pocket. As soon as I realised it,my heart went at the kidney's place, the kidney went at my stomach's place and my stomach went all the way to my head out fear!
Next day?My DHD was like nothing happened and my pal's hand was almost broken.
Yep,thumbs up HTC!
yea, it was pretty weird and once in a while... I hit the power button and it is OFF again, not rebooting... off, hitting the wake button turns it back on.... might be software etc....
but on that day, it was happening every 2o minutes, lol
I love htcs design.

Water damaged phone.. Help :(

UPDATE: The phone is magically fixed!
Hey guys!
So i was at a party 2 nights ago, and I lost my S2. I finally found it in the morning, it had been outside all night, and then I realised that it had been raining heavily.
I took the battery, sim card and micro sd card out and placed the phone somewhere warm and let it dry for about a day and a half. I plugged it in earlier, and it started charging fine, and then I turned the phone on.
It booted up. The hardware buttons are working fine, and the touch buttons below the screen also work, but the screen is completely unresponsive
EDIT: Just as I posted this, i got signal, so only problem i can see is the touch-screen
Is there anything I can do, or is this phone screwed?
I cant remember if I have Vodafone's insurance or not, I'm praying to god I do :/
Put it in a bag of rice and let it dry out even more

I was gonna say.... put it in rice. Should dry up faster
Had good result with silicate packets (the little bags in shoeboxes and many electrical goods) and rice. But let everything dry for days and don't reassemble - left my old PMP for 5 days after a toilet swim, still working. Smells great too. Honest.
Thanks for the replies guys. I've now put the phone in a bag of rice so I guess I just have to wait and see.
Lol keep us updated!
The problem could by the fact that the digitizer on capacitive screens are very sensitive, it sounds as if that may have been damaged.l I would think that the only thing you can do is to replace the touch screen, because it is gorilla glass and the fact the entire phone would need dismantling, If it isn't insured I would expect it wouldn't be cheap to get replaced. But you should be thankful that you entire phone didn't die, I mean you were quite lucky there. I broke my old hero by leaving it out side for 5-10 min whilst it was raining.
Bad news guys, its still not working.
Cant believe I let this happen, I need some trousers with tighter pockets for this damn phone! (and perhaps not carry it with me when I'm drinking haha)
Luckily its covered under my home insurance.
Do I get a new one or get it repaired?
Edit: Its also bloody ironic that I had just put a pattern unlock screen on my phone, so now I cant back up the contents because its locked! Is there any way to get round this? Or external ways to control the phone so I can get into it?
Cheers
There's insurance that covers phone water damage?
Hazlynch, you really need to keep it much, much longer than one day in the rice.
Trust me, apart from my aforementioned toilet episode, I've also lost phones and PMPs in the snow - all have worked again, but the shortest dessicating time was 3 days.
One day is simply not enough - not saying 100% it'll work after 5 days, but 100% certain it won't after one.
For the record, lost my Cowon S9 (OLED touchscreen) in a snowdrift - 5 days dessicating and worked - still going strong.
Ah right thanks for that info! From what I heard about the digitizer being sensitive I'm not very hopeful, but it wont harm to leave it in the rice longer.
I wasn't with my S9 either, but it surprised me, especially also being a touchscreen device too.
Remember to disassemble as much as you can from the phone - all cards and battery out but also in the box/bag - you need to expose as much surface area as possible of the device to the dessicant.
Try my silicate bag tip posted earlier too!
Let us know wha'ppen?
Ready to give it a try? How's it looking/feeling?
I managed to find some silica packets like you said so I put them in with the rice.
Just turned it on, but still no touchscreen responce

Shame - not optimistic.. A couple more days won't hurt if you have the patience!
Yeah, I wont be able to get anything done about the insurance stuff for a few days anyway, so I'll leave it in there for longer. Starting to miss it now! Haha.
Oh and thanks again for everyone's help on this!
My situation has taken an unexpected turn... Went into vodafone a couple of weeks ago and explained that the touchscreen had stopped working.
They tried to factory reset and do other things to fix it to no avail, so they sent it off to their repair centre to fix.
I received it back today, with a letter which stated that it was thoroughly tested and inspected, and that they found that the fault had been caused by water damage. They explained that water damage falls outside of the manufacturers warranty and they could not repair it.
They also sent a picture which helped to show the extent of the corrosion, which looked a bit nasty.
I turned on the phone anyway when i recieved it, and to my great surprise... it is working - apparently flawlessly.
So it is a happy ending - and has proved to me how badass this phone is

This has me worried haha. My SGS2 has recently took a bit of a bath as well. The phone worked perfectly fine after sitting off overnight drying out. However after about 3 days it started random hang up and shut offs. I sent it in to a repair center a week ago and i am just hoping for the best. I dont have high hopes that they will replace it as it was water damage but i suppose its worth a shot for a $600 phone.
If they dont replace/repair it i will be taking it apart and cleaning it in hopes that i can make it work.
Here is my old sgs2 after a dip in the ocean. No insurance either. What you guys think?

u8800 is a very sturdy phone :D

I dropped my phone to ****ty water where it stayed for 5 hours... after that it went to police station where it was 2 days wet in a minigrip bag. After that i washed my phone, blowed it dry with hair dryer. For few weeks my vibration did not work but starded working. Second problem was GPS that did not work. But today it started working. Just wanted to share this info with you. Great phone.
Lucky man my luck it would all be stuff
I can't really agree:
I got in a really terrible rain with my X5 in my trouser pocket, I got soaked. Back in the car I took the battery out of the phone and dried it as best as I could.
At home I removed the SIM card and the SD card and let the phone dry for a week.
It's been two weeks now, the phone starts up, but you can't slide the unlock slider all the way to the right - it looks like the touchscreen isn't working in the rightmost 1 or 1,5 cm of the screen.
Also you can still see a few faint stains under the touchscreen.
I hope I will not have to test it but it is nice to know that a few drops will not harm it..
By the way (excuse me if I'm hijacking the thread) are those screen protectors that use a liquid "solution" in order to apply safe (enter the phone throught the speaker mic etc)?

Screen flickering or overlay Meizu m2 note

Hello, I actually have a small problem on my phone.. I searched for the solutions but I am unable to find a reliable fix.. Everybody has a quite different type of this problem..
Phone model: Meizu m2 note
Previous os : Flyme 5(stock)
Current OS: Cm 12.1 (by Moyster on xda)
SCREEN FLICKERING
Well, before I start I would like to say that my phone has actually survived a water bath.. The phone fell in the swimming pool when my friends were trying to click a pic.. It didn't switch on, on the same day, but I disassembled it completely, and let it dry for a week.. Later the phone worked completely fine.. It's been 3 months since the incident...
Well the problem now is the SCREEN FLICKERING.. I guess It has nothing to do with the water damage cause that was almost 3 months back and this problem started around a month ago, when I was on flyme 5. And nope, the phone has never fallen off my hands.. The phone works fine for maybe the first 30 minutes after keeping it idle for a long time... The screen flickers even during the bootup, fastboot, and even in recovery..
I have two Meizu m2 note in my home.. The other one is my mom's phone.. And I almost update same roms on both the phones.. And my mom's phone is working completely fine and not facing this problem.. I don't have a warranty for this anymore, but I can still give it to the company's service center.. The main reason I posted this thread is because I just wanna know if this is a software or a hardware problem.. Cause in few other threads they said that this had sumthng to do with the kernel and stuff.. I don't wanna leave my phone at a service center for 2 months if this is fixable at home..
Not the complete screen flickers, but only the upper top part of the screen..
I have attached a YouTube link for a perfect view of the screen.. The phone on the video is my phone..!

I would really appreciate if you would help me on this.. thank you..

Well, I asked one the senior members of XDA, and got this reply.. yes, it was helpful...!
if your phone went in a pool and you disassembled it and made it working again, you might have forgotten to re-sit the cables / cables connectors, and the more you use the phone, the looser it gets....
Considering you said 3 months (and I'll assume India is a humid country), this might be a connector having corrosion too (I know it happens a lot to my cousin in the Caribean islands).
If that flickering keeps happening even after you check cables and corrosion, I guess (considering meizu parts are cheap) your only solution is to change the LCD screen (as this is a miniature part, some water can get stuck in really tiny/enclosed space and make a short-circuit/corrosion).
Assuming this happened 3 months after the "pool drama" ( ) you should probably be able to repair your phone, the board works, the battery works, if it's not the cables or corrosion, it's the LCD display.. And if all that doesn't work, contact Meizu

I'm soo sorry I did not inform you about this! :victory:
Well, it was just like u said.. I disassembled the phone completely and found salt like white powder all over the motherboard.. Even inside the cable connectors!
Soo I cleaned it up using a soft brush with some liquid..
Blew some pressurized air with a small air gun I have, just to remove the small dust contents.. I also noticed that the connectors have turned brownish in some parts. . But..!
The flickering has almost reduced 90%..! Before it flickered all day long and now it happens only once or twice a day..! That too only for 5 to 10 minutes..!
Well it's okay now.. I didn't spend any money, or give it to the service center and wait for weeks..
Thank you @Moyster.. I wud have never even tried this if u didn't tell me to.. I was planning on giving it to the company itself.. Haha... :fingers-crossed:
