First of all, what about people like me without Facebook?
Second, how often do Facebook polls actually yield results?
Could not find the play on that list
could not find play on the list either, but man do I miss MIUI from my incredible.
there is no Xperia Play but vote for X10, once the x10 has miui it wont be to difficult to port it to Play/Arc/Neo
X10 has miui roms. I used to use one about 6 months ago when I had it

Google MIUI, or YouTube search it. It is Chinese based Android ROM that kind of a blend of iOS features and Android. The Theming and be able to change every single aspect of MIUI make it the number one desired ROM all on ANDROID PHONES. The INFUSE phones just got the ROM yesterday. First someone has to PORT CM7 over, then MIUI is possible. One you use a MIUI ROM, it is very hard to return to stock. I have it on my X10 mini, Captivate and Infuse, just waiting for it for my PLAY!

I really hope MIUI comes to the play! Its the whole reason I would root my phone.

I have heard that some guys managed to port Android 3.0, better known as Honeycomb, to the G1, HTC Magic and to the Nexus One.
This are of course very beta versions, but the phones boot with it.
So, I wonder if someone could port 3.0 to our Xperia?
The HTC Magic and G1 were the first phones with Android, so our Xperia must be much better than them and, theoratically, it could work on it with just fewer lags than on the G1.
There are so many 2.2 and 2.3 ROMs available for our Xperia, so why not try to port 3.0?
If you think this is a stupid thread, just remove it, but I just wanted to know it.
Thanks in advance for your answers.
USE SEARCH FEATURE ON XDA AND YOU WILL FIND IT. Don't be lazy
You must be new here!
you will get burned at the stake by the guys here for opening such thread xD we are struggling to get a 100% bugless working android 2.2 and you bringing up android 3.0 which is meant for tablets with big screens xD lol
Edit : also such question is not meant to be in the dev section....
It was just a noob question...I also said that the versions for Nexus One, G1 and Magic are very beta versions.
There used to be an early version of Honeycomb somewhere here but the project has been abandoned. And no wonder - our kernel cannot even run Gingerbread without bugs, not to mention higher versions...
Even the kernel supports it, maybe phone will be too much laggy, as the HoneyComb suggests the need of 1.0Ghz processor, that is not our Case
So why they can run it on G1?
Does it have an unlocked bootloader, so you can flash a custom kernel?

Probably yes, Xperia stills locked and cannot boot custom kernels
Some dev are trying to make the bootloader bypass, but is not easy. :/

Graveir and aldee_s are right: someone has already ported it, but development is currently down.
here is the thread to it:

Blagus was disappointed with that, the only one that i saw making some progress was maxfron, but I didn´t saw him anymore
That had it ported but far to laggy m8 r CPU 2 slow at the min but I think I may still have that download ill cheack for u and upload it if so
my civic
Is because our phone is not ARMv7 & above and the processor speed is not super fast..if u port it into x8 it will buggy & lags in all of the function
Lets wait for 2. 4 but google need so much time : #

Do you mean the line:

Since we are now deep into CM7 betas is there any reason we do not have miui yet? I can't wait for miui.

Because we don't have a final version. Looks like you'll have to wait.
that is because its not in beta yet, no thread in the developers section. When that happen look for miui to be released. in my opinion miui looks like ios i dont like it but that just me.
Has anybody seen enough of miui to know of it is worth it (vs CM7)?

It depends entirely on what you want out of your phone. Playing around with the Nook Color port for a bit, I found some features that I would love to have such as baked in data use monitoring and shutoff when reaching your monthly cap (probably more accurate than something like 3G Watchdog) and the ability to specifiy which network types apps are allowed to use data on.
It also looks and feels very iPhone like, which I'm not a big fan of but it has a decent theme engine in it so if you wanted you could install a theme and alternate launcher and have it run like any other android rom.
Not being Open Source is a bit of a downside but not enough to stop me from trying an Atrix port when one shows up. But CM7 is pretty good as it is and most of MIUI's extra functionality can be added to it through the market. Its a matter of whether you want it more integrated with the OS.
Has anybody tallied up which there are more threads of? Impatient bastards who cant wait for cm7 or impatient bastards who cant wait for miui but gotta wait for cm7 first anyways?
I voided my warranty.
As for miui vs cm7 in my opinion it just feels a lot more polished. It has a ton of features i could not even begin to describe because its just a lot of small improvements in functionality that as a whole make this rom what it is.
Also one of the main features is the weekly updates that just constantly add new functionality. These updates are nothing like CM nightlies as you get an astounding amount of new code put into this rom each week. You can just check out their website and see for yourself.
I personally never looked vack after putting this rom onto one of my previous devices. The only reason im using my SGS2 right now and not the atrix is because im running MIUI.
I've found something interesting here.

I think this is a customized OS based on Android.
I owned a "Meizu M8" previously and this also had a similar looking OS. It was Windows Mobile 6 with some "apps" on top developed by Meizu (chinese cellphone company) that changed the whole look to what you see in the video above...
When I was leaving the Meizu scene there were some rumors about the next phone gen using Android as OS...
Oh and I don't recommend porting... It hasn't had that much additional functionality in the past and was full of bugs. Everytime two bugs where fixed four new ones appeared... This could be because of WM6 but I think it's also because of Meizu not being that experienced at developing (compared to Google/Apple). And of course it would be a hell of work to get this (chinese) thing adopted to western language - there were several compatibility issues although we had some very good coders working on it.
It does actually look good, anyone want to try it?

This is a poll thread where you can freely state your facts and opinions on your favorite type of ROM (Sammy-based ROM, MIUI or CM)
This is also a thread for the people who want to know what kinds of ROMs are being used worldwide.
IF you want, you can even comment down below and say why you like them
I use MIUI myself, but I did come from a Sammy-based ROM and even tried CM for a few weeks.
Voice your opinions, and let us know why!
**Sammy-based ROM = stock as well
If you happen to want to try the ROM type which you are not using, click on the links below.

This thread is NOT a question, just a poll. I don't want to post a favorite ROM post because new ROMs get released by the day and its hard to keep up ^_^
I haven't tried MIUI yet, so I won't vote. But I've been playing with the stable version of Cyanogen Mod for a week now and like it. It's heads and shoulders better than the stock ROM.
CM-based ROMS are nice, but video hardware decoding support is spotty. I use my phone to play 1080p/720p videos quite often, which are often unwatchable using software decoders. So I have no choice but to stick with Samsung-based ROMs for now...

I never tried MIUI because it looks to me like a clone of iPhone, when I want iPhone I buy iPhone...
I used CM7 because of its configuration options and theme chooser, hope CM9 will get them too...
I've tried all of them.
I prefer Samsung based ROMs at this time. They just seem to be the smoothest, most reliable ROMs which is not a surprise really. I did go through a phase where almost everything was stock but I've gone back to Go Launcher and Go SMS as I found the Samsung launcher too limiting (even though it is smooth, though Go Launcher isn't far behind) and the same can be said for the Sammy SMS app, also I find it a little slower than Go SMS in terms of responsiveness.
Cyanogen ROMs I feel do not run as fluidly as Samsung ROMs, and generally contain more bugs. As another poster said, they lack some of the codec support of the Samsung ROMs. Also, and I realise you can change this with themes etc, but the AOSP Android is a bit bland, at least in pre-ICS form. And CM9 simply isn't ready yet as a daily driver IMO. I look forward to revisiting CM9 when it is more polished.
MIUI ROMs I really like in terms of features. Everything you need is there out of the box, however, I find them resource hogs, and go a step further again than Cyanogen in not running as fluidly. You can see this when jumping from screen to screen or navigating menus, it feels like I am running an old Nexus One again in terms of speed. It just isn't fluid. This was a while ago so maybe things have changed. If they sorted these issues out, it could be the most fantastic ROM.
So Samsung ROM for me at the moment.

Well, I dont see how this post is the same as those noob questions on whats the best rom you see, if i posted one of those questions, it would be all those "there is no such thing as a best rom, only what fits you" kind of answers all over the place. This is only trying to get people to know what kind of ROMs we are all running, and also its the kind of stats that gets people knowing how many people are using what kind of rom.
hehehe and also you wrote android development, meaning you like Sammy-based ROMs, should have just entered it in the poll.

As stated, you don't have to write why you like it, just click on what you use in the poll, and people who are actually interested would actually care about the stats. No ROM discussion is required if the repliers don't want to reply. Just a poll.

true Sir i did not see the poll you already had above as i was on the phone. but anyhow android development is not just sammy based roms you have MIUI in there plus CM7 like builds and ICS but personally for me..I like so far yes you got it right Sammy based roms....But as soon source code gets released and Siyah is out for CM9 and they get it more stable i am making the leap straight away....
Cheers...Still find this pointless thread but anywhoo
I also prefer stock ROM's.
Not to ditch efforts of all custom ROM makers, but two reasons my stock preference. I really don't trust enough to 3rd party applications much. That's even true for my desktop computer.
Second of all, I'm a bit lazy to deal with any problems, bugs or other stuff that may occur and obviously more chance of bricking phone with 3rd parties.
Third reason unlike most, I really like TouchWiz and additions that Samsung did over standard Android. I have two other Android based devices, one of them is default, other is HTC. I know they lack a lot of free utilities and touch & feel, (and no Sense does not cut it)

Does MX video player rely on samsung codecs? because I use it with my stock rom and the latest versions play almost everything in Hw decoders.
Older versions used to play some video files in sw decoders , but now everything is hardware accelerated and I even use it instead of the default player.
So my understanding is that if an update made the app support more video formats in Hw decoding mode ,then it should be indpendent of the rom we're using ,right?
Anorexic stock for me. Never liked MIUI, and appreciate the stability/100% functionality of stock over CM every time.
Used the ROM kitchen on my SGS1, got used to having no bloat, and haven't looked back since.
The ROM in my sig ticks all my boxes.
I like Samsung Roms firstly for the Email app for my Company's exchange account. Also for the Enchansed camera app, for the BEST stability and Siyah Kernel for Speed and Battery life!
I voted for cyanogen, but honestly the best ROM is always the one I just flashed

I'm so happy to be the first to write this news!
It's something we all hoped for ages and now it's here!
MIUI, know as the coolest but the closest Android interface, finally went opensource.
Here's the official message from MIUI team on Facebook:
MIUI port projects officially go open source
http://www.micode.net/portal.php
Here you can find the information and source code you need to build an Android-compatible device. Android is an open-source software stack for mobile devices, and a corresponding open-source project led by Google. We created Android in response to our own experiences launching mobile apps. We wanted to make sure that there was no central point of failure, so that no industry player can restrict or control the innovations of any other. That's why we created Android, and made its source code open.

My intention is to make it work (of course) and make it in PT-PT and MDPI (and maybe LDPI)
But this is a pain in the *you know what*
i hope i face the problems and the solutions
