[Q] Android 3.0 on Xperia X8? - XPERIA X8 General

I have heard that some guys managed to port Android 3.0, better known as Honeycomb, to the G1, HTC Magic and to the Nexus One.
This are of course very beta versions, but the phones boot with it.
So, I wonder if someone could port 3.0 to our Xperia?
The HTC Magic and G1 were the first phones with Android, so our Xperia must be much better than them and, theoratically, it could work on it with just fewer lags than on the G1.
There are so many 2.2 and 2.3 ROMs available for our Xperia, so why not try to port 3.0?
If you think this is a stupid thread, just remove it, but I just wanted to know it.
Thanks in advance for your answers.

USE SEARCH FEATURE ON XDA AND YOU WILL FIND IT. Don't be lazy

You must be new here!

you will get burned at the stake by the guys here for opening such thread xD we are struggling to get a 100% bugless working android 2.2 and you bringing up android 3.0 which is meant for tablets with big screens xD lol
Edit : also such question is not meant to be in the dev section....

It was just a noob question...I also said that the versions for Nexus One, G1 and Magic are very beta versions.

There used to be an early version of Honeycomb somewhere here but the project has been abandoned. And no wonder - our kernel cannot even run Gingerbread without bugs, not to mention higher versions...

Even the kernel supports it, maybe phone will be too much laggy, as the HoneyComb suggests the need of 1.0Ghz processor, that is not our Case

So why they can run it on G1?
Does it have an unlocked bootloader, so you can flash a custom kernel?

Probably yes, Xperia stills locked and cannot boot custom kernels
Some dev are trying to make the bootloader bypass, but is not easy. :/

not easy and i think they already gave up

Graveir and aldee_s are right: someone has already ported it, but development is currently down.
here is the thread to it:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=982384&highlight=honeycomb

Blagus was disappointed with that, the only one that i saw making some progress was maxfron, but I didn´t saw him anymore

That had it ported but far to laggy m8 r CPU 2 slow at the min but I think I may still have that download ill cheack for u and upload it if so
my civic

Is because our phone is not ARMv7 & above and the processor speed is not super fast..if u port it into x8 it will buggy & lags in all of the function

Lets wait for 2. 4 but google need so much time : #

You can edit this in build.prop?
Do you mean the line:
Code:
ro.build.version.sdk=8
, so you would only have to change the number?

I think new Android will be 4.0 "Ice Cream Sandwich"
Not 2.4

[Q] Ginger-Sense---Anyone Interested

Ok so here goes i'm thinking of working on a NAND ROM based on 2.3.1 (Gingerbread) Build: GRH78 FOR THE HTC HD2...but guess what...... i'm gonna try and throw HTC SENSE into the mix and see if i can get them to play nicely together....since this could take some time i just wanted to know if anyone is interested at all???? Just Post and ask if your interested......this ROM is going to based off ofMDJ's CyanogenMod 7 v. 2.3 with MDJ's Kernel: MDJ S10.3 OC (or whatever new Kernal MDJ releases between now and when i get this rom complete) and the Desire HD Sense including the Sense Camera...(THESE ARE MY GOALS FOR THIS ROM)I Will Be Posting Frequently Since I Will Need Testers to find all the little bugs that i miss....
( I WILL ONLY POST ROMS THAT I THINK ARE SAFE...BUT THERE IS THE CHANCE THAT IT STILL CAN BE BRICKED SO BY FLASHING MY ROM YOU KNOW THAT YOUR VOIDING YOUR WARRANTY AND I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE IF YOU BRICK YOUR DEVICE )
EDIT: Im Gonna Try My Hardest to have a Version posted so everyone can play with it by 01/15/2011 - 01/16/2011....
EDIT: I just sent a message to cortulla....mainly if he has any tips or tricks that might help out with this build....01/14/2011
EDIT: Ok I'm sorry for not posting for so long i haven't forgot about you guys...i'm still working on this rom..its harder than anticipated...plus having the free time to do it gets tricky...work is having mandatory overtime since the iphone is being released on verizon...(SCARED MUCH AT&T????)..SO JUST WANTED TO UPDATE AND SAY I DIDN'T DITCH THIS PROJECT.......02/03/2011
Thanks Everyone and remember we couldn't do any of this if it wasn't for Google, Cyanogen, Cotulla & (DFT), MDJ, Markinus, gauner1986, danij3l, gpc, LeTama, Rajko and others...and if i forgot to mention you im sorry just yell at me and i'll be sure to add you to the list =-)....

Also very interested...
And I'd like to be a beta tester.
Totally interested in this. Gingerbread has come along a great length in the last copuple of days. Latest stock release dated the 14th shows working lights and usb! Would be awsome to have sense built on top!
Please work on it man
Good luck. It's almost impossible; most of sense is dependant on the HTC framework and most libraries, which are in turn interdependent with the android version they run on (2.2). You pretty much have to replace the whole build with 2.2, which, in effect, makes the build a 2.2.
It would be easier to add to 2.2 the keyboard and animations from Gingerbread, along with the launcher. It's close, but it's not really 2.3 either.
Good luck anyway.
for me it's enough to have the desire hd cam on gingerbread. will it ever be possible to provide only the hd cam tool?

+1.
It's hardly possible to get sense rosie.apk (the launcher) working on stock android... (afaik nobody has done it to date)
plus I bet its impossible to do it on a different android version.
Yet I would be interested.

Why?
Use Camera 360 or a similar app. They do the same (may look worse but who cares?)
(maybe no facial recognition - yet do you really need that?)
it seems to me that Gingerbread mostly enhanced aosp anyways, it tweaked the UI and didn't really have that many enhancements.
If you could just port the Gingerbread keyboard, icon set, Nexus S LWPs, and the screen-off animation to a Sense build then you basically have it.
(may look worse but who cares?)

yep, and that's exactly what i want: a good looking camera app. technically i'm satisfied with the gingerbread cam, but it looks awful in compare to hd cam app...

2.2 Sense ?
Sense HD would be cool but I imagine more work
I'll look forward to it !

What features the X10 misses after Gingerbread (what do we need from developers)

I am just trying to combine all the required things in here so that it is easy for a developer or a newcomer to the world of the Xperia X10 to know what the phone really lacks.
1)Real Multitouch:
After the debate whether the chip of the X10 is Cypress or Clearpad, no progress was made in that direction even fixing the buggy dual touch we have (cross-axes problem) giving us a full dual touch.
2)16 million color:
yes, it may not be so crucial to anyone, but really why don't we get a puppy while we can unleash a dragon, and who doesn't want an extra feature in his phone?
(Thanks Z for the Bravia Engine and the FPS uncap).
3)Unlocked Bootloader:
This is the big deal and the door to unleashing the X10, Custom ROMs and Kernels will be much better, features that SE don't want us to get will be easily achieved (MT, 16M, even porting other OS like WP7 or MeeGo or ice cream sandwich :O), developing for the X10 will be easier and more open, and we would really get a phone that can compete with the Arc.
P.S.: I would like to thank the developers working on the X10 now Z, J, Ericwill, Achotjan, Wolfbreak, Cobrato, Doomlord, kxhawkins, Androxyde, ThJap, viousAD, & Trip.
Guys, without you the X10 would have been a bulk of **** staying in the eclair era with one touch and nothing would have improved, your work has saved us a lot, and we are asking you not to leave us because we really like you.
Please if you have a feature or anything that you feel missing from the phone you can post it, it is just a collection of the flaws in the X10.
I agree with op as well. We certainly need the bootloader its what keeps us from unleashing the beast heck I wouldn't be surprised if x10 is faster than arc

couldn't we achieve the custom kernels on gingerbread using the bootloader bypass thing?
I think the devs are waiting for se to release kernel sources

I Agree.
I think the problem is and always has been having a developer who can write the drivers. Until then, I don't think it matters.

It's much more complex that it seems.
Not even OEMs (SE, HTC, Motorola, you name it) write the device drivers for themselves.
Most of the source is provided by the hardware manufacturer (qualcomm, atheros, broadcom) - and a huge part of it is under NDA (non-disclosure agreement).
Without the thorough documentation and source code examples, it's highly unlikely to write any device driver by your own
Obviously, you could try to reverse-engineer stuff, but it's a "rocket science", even for experienced developers/companies.
Cheers,
z

Stop calling developers some glorified copy pasters of cyanogen mod files.
True.. without source code it becomes string theory.

I meant to mention things that aren't yet developed for the X10.
A feature that was exciting but was pulled back is the ability to dual boot two roms using xrec 1.0, I liked it despite never using it because it would be beneficial for the future usage :]
At least I thought that in future devs can make dual touch fully working but Z says its not possible without sources

Wifi Proxy
I thought this new GB will include the support proxy setting. I have seen in some ROM I forget which one it was that have the proxy setting in it.
I know, this is sad, for lots of school, and corporate that have proxy server, most android phone/tablet are not able to connect to the net. This is a big thing if the android want to get to some of corporate and the education sectors of the market.
I hope the DEV would do something that could enable this proxy feature.
Since day one that I have the X10, I have been disappointed with the lack of this feature.
Not to mention that it also lack of the Cisco IPSEC VPN setting as well.

ICS or not ICS: that is the question

As in title, can we hope to see Ice Cream Sandwitch on our Tattoo sooner or later (maybe through CyanogenMod)? The Android team said that EVERY phone that had Gingerbread can have ICS: it's the same for the Tattoo or it's not doable due to the limited hardware (I also mean screen size)?

i really hope we can see this happen
but for now i think it's to early to say. high end phones have no info yet, so we gotta be very patient ICS source is not out yet...
so for now, we are happy that we have 2.3.7 which isn't on many high end devices
this is a nice read
http://www.androidcentral.com/ice-cream-sandwich-what-happens-next
We have to wait until Google releases the source-code. After that, we can see if our device will be able to run ICS
I have actually given up the hope to upgrade my tattoo further than 2.3.7, because I don't feel that my phone can use the new features in 4.0 so what's the point ^^ GPU Accelerated UI and better dual core support isn't very much for the tattoo. The ride with my tattoo has however been really nice, and it was a really good way to get introduced to android Galaxy Nexus here I come?

Looks like there's a chance to get ICS in our Tattoos
I have checked it yesterday.
stelios97 has ported it to both X10 mini and wildfire,
so there is very good chance that we can have ics miui for tattoo.
But then I wonder, is there any dev still holding a Tattoo to help us.
Would be really nice to have MIUI on our tattoo.
It would even be better than having ICS!

The other day I read that 2.3.7 source for MIUI was released
http://shrewdgeek.com/2012/02/04/xiaomi-makes-miui-gingerbread-2-3-7-open-source/
all we need is to get it compiled for ARM v6
Where are the developers for tattoo roms?
Arco? Kalimocho? rallapag? you've also done some ports, didn't you?
can someone port MIUI to our tattoo?
i don't know much about android rom development, but i think it wouldn't be much more work to port this miui rom than port some sense roms. a wildfire version is already available.
Its more some driver related things, i think
can someone try it please?
Hi .dot
You know, I am not a dev.
What ever I do, I am afraid it will be incomplete like my sense 2.3 rom port.
We need a real dev, unfortunately Arif-ali as well gave up working on Tattoo yesterday has indefinitely stopped android development.

You can do the same here: sharecash.org/report.php?file=2719513
100% fake , this sites which states that their "tool" will "update" ANY phone OS , are never real. The hardware is highly different and almost never this "tools" upgrade anything , or if they do , its highly possible to brick your phone ...
It's fake. The only real places to get info and updates to the latest Android version are xda and similar forums. Arco was developing a CM9 ROM for Wildfire, he even posted a video of it booting up and running, but as far as I know official CM9 support will be removed for Wildfire, as it has no dedicated GPU. A dedicated GPU is one of the requirements of ICS. I guess arco has stopped development of CM9 on Wildfire and moved to another device because of this. The ICS UI will be pretty laggy running on a phone without a GPU.

My personal opinion is that hd2 and devices with same or lower specs are dead devices for new android versions. With 4.1.2 allready lags in many ways and i dont think that this will magically get fixed.I am also really sad that many devs that started the hd2 android project arent anymore in the scene. The only hope to get a fully working 4.1.2 and 4.2 is to have all devs that worked in hd2 to work again on it.

First, sorry for my English.
Why do you think HD2 is dead device? Last week WP8 was ported to the HTC LEO and Desire C have almost the same hardware. As I remember that phone is supported by CM. Anyway I don't like buy a new device because have bigger, more numbers of CPU/GPU/RAM etc etc if my phone works enough fast. Why, Why I need buy a "new" device?? Because is supporting official by HTC?
BTW// HTC was twitt photo of HD2 and write some about working OSes on in it but nothing more...
My previous phone was HTC Magic and that phone had only one year fully supporting. Official still have Android 1.5 in Europe!! I'll never trust that company about support in the future.
Now I think even tytung (who is greatest small user) or DFT support that phone longer. Another devs did and doing great stuff of course too
Do you remember Desire HD and complain about Sense 3.5 or Desire about update to 2.3.. I don't have words for this.
