MIUI is now opensource! - Galaxy S I9000 General

I'm so happy to be the first to write this news!
It's something we all hoped for ages and now it's here!
MIUI, know as the coolest but the closest Android interface, finally went opensource.
Here's the official message from MIUI team on Facebook:
MIUI port projects officially go open source
http://www.micode.net/portal.php
Here you can find the information and source code you need to build an Android-compatible device. Android is an open-source software stack for mobile devices, and a corresponding open-source project led by Google. We created Android in response to our own experiences launching mobile apps. We wanted to make sure that there was no central point of failure, so that no industry player can restrict or control the innovations of any other. That's why we created Android, and made its source code open.

I'm still speechless for the huge event this represents!
Now we have not only a page (which is still in chinese) http://www.micode.net/portal.php
But a pubblic and matching the cyanogenmod way Github repository!! https://github.com/MiCode
Big day for Android! Big day for the community
Have a nice day!

Good news,
I like MIUI File manager and Call manager.

OMG this its HUGE, really really big dat for Android and Open Source

Great news for future development progress, kudos to the miui team for taking the right decision

Agreed MIUI has the best file manager set up out there, looks great and functions great

Xiaomi is doing the right things, not all source codes are opened, but a big step though.

If that means that on every rom you could have miui apps
how do i install this apps?
or it will be available later?

Great now maybe I can get this on my Cliq
Sent from my GT-I9000 using xda premium

We already have miui locker, camera, compass, music apk files running on our roms. Whats the benefit of this? Will we be able to use MIUI themes in other Roms?

Looks like only a few apps are open. Moving along...
Sent from my GT-I9000 using xda premium

The file manager is flame! As long as that and the theme manager get ported, I am happy!

MIUI sourse is material 4 brainstorm )))

i'm from Xperia X8
i'm not a expert developer, but i'm seeing the code of FileManager and trying to build it for another roms, but i'm facing real problems, don't know why, still seeing.
My intention is to make it work (of course) and make it in PT-PT and MDPI (and maybe LDPI)
But this is a pain in the *you know what*
i hope i face the problems and the solutions
edit: it is missing the net.micode.fileexplorer.R (r.java file?). am i wrong?

Great news ever...

Great nice to hear that... but changed that anythink?

CyanogenMod 6.1 is on its way! And its easy to get on Captivate!

Sorry if this has already been posted.
I apologize for not keeping the site up to date, I’m a slacker We also had a database issue and lost the last post about 6.0′s release, if you were wondering why it went missing.
6.1 is the current work-in-progress and is coming together nicely. There’s a few new features like touch-to-focus in the camcorder, dismiss notifications by swiping, kernel updates for most devices, and improved performance. There will also be support for a few new devices- Acer Liquid, HTC Wildfire and Samsung Vibrant. My eye is also on the new HTC phones that are about to get released like the G2.
A lot of people ask me about adding support for their phone, but we can only support phones that we actually own. The CM team is always looking for new hackers to join up with us to add support for their favorite device. Get in touch with me if you’d like to help.
CyanogenMod is open source. The quality of code being added to CM has vastly improved because of the code review system that we’ve put in place, Gerrit. It’s the same system used by Google to manage the Android Open Source Project. It allows anyone to submit code to the project in a highly-visible way and gives us a way to examine and improve it before it’s actually merged. We want your code, so send us your patches. If there’s something you don’t like, change it.
Nightly builds of CM are always available if you’re brave and want to try out the latest code. If you’re running nightly builds, the best way to stay up to date on new changes is to follow @cmsrc on Twitter.
Our user base is approaching a quarter of a million users. This project has come a long way Thanks for all the support, we are only as strong as the community!

Porting a vibrant rom to the captivate is not hard
no wayyyy this is finally coming to our cappy, i'd be beyond happy
Hate to sound like a douche, but is there anything in there (besides maybe some of the features of CM6.1) that we havent known for a long time? No release date, we know thier working on it, and we know they are working with the vibrant.
Well if you look here it still shows as in progress for version 6.0...They have said in the past that the vibrant won't be supported till 6.1 and then someone will still have to port it to the captivate..
https://spreadsheets.google.com/lv?key=0Aledx886TFpZdHdwNzNKZzJLczJjTnA5ekFWRzNxX2c&hl=en&authkey=CNf7ie8G
So I don't think we will be seeing anything soon...
so, i'm sure everyone will get a good laugh, because everyone talks about how this is the best thing about to come since sliced bread........
but what is SO great about this?

Froyo! Plus lots of custom stuff.
well i knew it was based on 2.2....but the "custom stuff" is what i meant. What are some of the big things it does that are so great
I'm new to the whole Android scene so excuse my ignorance but can someone explain how CM6.1 can possibly be put on a GalaxyS phone when there is no source code for the kernel?

The other custom roms seem to use the 2.1 kernel.
I checked that spreadsheet about 3 weeks ago, and it was still in development like it is now for the vibrant.

Its not really about a wealth of extra features. Cyanogenmod has extra configurability. In addition it is a bit more cohesive than typical roms. I definitely preferred it over the stock Nexus One rom and the stock nexus one rom is better than stock Captivate.
The rapid updates and support is enough for me to use Cyanogenmod.

But 6.1 is Froyo, all the ROMs I've seen are Eclaire... How are they using a 2.1 kernel with Froyo?
I was under the impression the reason for no Froyo ROMs on the Captivate was due to lack of source from Samsung?

i'm sure when this comes out you'll be able to strip the FroYo out of it and make it your own, and better
CM6.1 will come to the captivate after is released to the vibrant, kernel differences are minimal between the two so porting CM6.1 to the captivate will only require few kernel changes.
yeah i'm sure the port will be done in the time it takes to heat up a pop tart.

[Q] REQ: Vanilla, just plain old Android, nothing else

Any chance of a vanilla rom?, no Samsung software, no themes, just plain old regular Google Android?. I dont care if its 2.1 or 2.2, I had a very nice vanilla rom on my Droid X, and I miss that. As it is I hate this phone intensely due to the lack of finding a Vanilla rom.
Does vanilla exist?
no the rom is not functional yet, but why don't you just apply the aosp theme
Super Clean, adw, asop theme. About as close as you'll get at the moment. It works well and looks stock.
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
Jt's super clean and aosp theme by retro kid is what I use.
The feeling I've gotten is that it takes a ton of work to make AOSP (vanilla) run on this device, making sure drivers work etc. There's not a whole lot of reason for them to make all that effort when 2.2 is around the corner. Once 2.2 and its source are released I think we will see an AOSP rom, but not likely before. As the others suggest try a rom like blackhole and go with an aosp like theme.
Actually, there are a lot of really cool functions that you lose if everything was aosp
Should not be in the development forum.
As far as vanilla android, its being worked on but right now there are no developments. Samsung hacked together the RIL used to communicate with the cell radio from a 1.5 device to work with our device, not easy to work with
If the new update is not out, well the sad truth is we will not see 2.2 for a long time. Ive swapped my phone out so many times Verizon has given me the choice of choosing a different phone.
I might have to move on myself...ive given android enough time to tickle my fancy. And im just sad the developers just dont want to make decent apps. Its so weird that a phone with such great specs as the galaxy s just isnt supported by devs, the carriers or even samsung. There has to be much more of a problem with the phone than we actually know about.
It is supported by developers. Very much so. However they cannot work with the garbage code, and this 1.5 ril bull****.

Edit: noticeit says sent from my ADR6300? Tired of waiting.
I wasnt really talkin about the Hacking Community Devs. I meant Market Devs, carriers and manufacturers. Hacking community can only do so much!
BTW off topic did anyone see how Microsoft is workign together with HACKING DEVS? Smart move , good for them.
Did you see that the big hack was for a whopping custom ringtone? Damn. Go Microsoft. Hack in a song that plays when someone called. I've only had that functionality for the past 5+ years.

Far from. Microsoft is in no way supporting hackers they just aren't taking an Apple stand against it. Go google the article they basically tell you if you mess up your device you're on your own. Same story different wording. Microsoft will never enable homebrew. Think about their history.
Actually they jailbroke wp7 then microsoft got together to work with them on opening restrictions.... very cool move!!!
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
BTW if you use custom roms and root your android phone.........your on your own also!!! Warrenty is dead!!
Noone gives you warrenty when you alter the software. NOONE! But i think its a great move by microsoft.
I personally have alot of respect for microsoft. I think that windows phone 7 is a great product.
BTW we are way off topic haha.

[Bid/Developer Hunt] Making an "iOS7" concept a reality

Watch this video first:
I'm here to propose a community funded effort in finding(and funding) developers interested in making a design concept a reality. Looking over the video a few times, I began thinking how easy it would be to do this with android especially with all the customizable apps and widgets. the only problem is that some of the applications would need to be coded from scratch. Or maybe some apps can be themed to look like it (IE ubermusic app theme). I personally like it and would like to see if anyone else is interested and thoughts/opinions. I'm extremely open to criticism and critiques. I would take on this project myself, but my Java knowledge isn't that extensive, as well as my C/C++ skills, however, I am willing to make the necessary image files if need. I may also contact designer behind the iOS7 concept and see if he is willing to contribute as well.
In Final:
Looking to find and fund developers willing to either make a custom rom or applications that are similar to the ones in the video. If it a custom rom, I would it would be CM, Kang or Slimrom base! yee.
dude, fix your post. Your links are unfriendly!

That concept video is basically just a bunch of features that already exist in android. As for the design language as previous commenter mentioned it's very much like MIUI. Just start looking at different launchers and widgets available and you'll soon be able to knock this up. I could probably get a decent replication with a combination of Apex launcher, UCCW and some icon packs.

Oh they can all they want. Every developer knows that all they do is take codes from others. Even their theme settings are built off of CM coding. The whole look of the rom is a copycat off someone else. Apple is gonna have a field day with them the min they try to sell internationally and so is the GPL lawyers.
No real dev takes them seriously.

What about this app project?

Hey guys!
So I was finally able to get some free time, and I decided to make a new project: this time it's a theme switcher app, compatible only with Stock ROMs, or Stock-Based ROMs without modifications into core framework files (like framework.jar and so on).
This idea came up to my mind a lot of time ago, and even users like taalibj01 contacted me a while back for asking me if I could make something like this. I'm still working on this but here is a video preview to show you how's working (sorry for bad quality).
First of all, when I talk about this app, with theme I mean both SystemUI.apk and framework-res.apk (will add Semc framework too): infact, this app basically copies those files into your /system directory.
It supports 3 user themes, that will be loaded from specific folders, and a default theme included in the app itself (the original SEMC theme).
So guys what do you think about this? Is this a waste of time or do you think it may be useful for you?
I will release this project once I know if it's useful, and once I include all the changes needed to make this app as user-friendly as possible.
well this project is uniqe in gb roms and i really like to see it released on xda
but we have something like this in ics roms (changing wallpapers is not still presented on that)

As I see there isn't much need for this app.
Anyway, I'll release it once I make some major modifications (e.g. using themes as .zip files instead of .apk's placed around, make the app create core folders by itself and so on - shouldn't take much time) and upload the sources, since it'll be Open-Source to assure that anyone can improve this project.
Let me know if anyone has any idea
