[Q] Simple Instructions Please - Confused! - HD2 Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting and Genera

Hi,
After reading many many threads & watching dozens of videos, & downloading & trying loads of files I still can not get my HTC HD2 to multi-boot ,
The only result so far is to get it to reboot to a lot of minuscule text , way too small to read.
I would like to use the latest android gingerbread & linux ( & maybe xp ?) etc without screwing up / overwriting the windows 6.5 mobile. (it is my primary phone / pda but can not get software for some tasks these days )
Phone is the 512 flash version
Please can someone post simple precise step by step instructions to do the above, including the files needed & how to recover from snafu's.
Many thanks in advance.

Extremely simple. Make sure you have the latest stock ROM 3.14 or a custom ROM, but you must have a .50 Radio. Download Android SD Rom. Place the Android folder on the SD card. Run clrcad and haret. Success.

Thank You, please can someone post links to the exact files required ?
Thanks again
M

So you have still WinMo6.5 on NAND with default loader or you have changed loader already (MAGLDR, cLK)?
What radio do you have? It´s written on boot - those red signs on low left corner. You must have 2.*.50.* one.

No 'exact files required' exist, just find a ROM, download it, place the Android folder on the root of your SD card and enjoy.

Thanks for the replies,
ok, more info;
os version 5.2.21869 (21869.5.0.82)
Manila Version 1.0.19211620.0
ROM version 1.72.831.1(82124) WWE
ROM Date 03/01/10
Radio Version 2.07.51.22_2
Protocol Version 15.32.50.07U
CPU Qualcom(R) 8250B
Speed 1024 Mhz
RAM sise 448 MB
Flash Size 512MB
Data bus 32 bits
Storage size 191.31.MB
display Resolution 800x480
Colors 65536
Bluetooth Version 2.1/2.1+EDR
Thanks, sorry to point this out but "download a file & use it" is not too helpful ( WHICH files & FROM WHERE? & in What ORDER ?) - have downloaded lots of files & used them , only succeeded in B**ring the phone to the point of a factory reset & many many crashes.
Sorry about this but I am not an experienced phone hacker/ modifier , just need something that works & works well - any help is appreciated
Many Thanks in Advance
M

OK, you have bad radio version. You have to chnage it to 2.x.50.x (you have 51 actually). Follow this guide to change radio - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=881958 It´s step A. When you follow this guide step by step, you should make it work easily

Yes, do that, or, much less riskily (not involving HSPL or anything along those lines) download the Official Stock ROM 3.14 from the HTC website and flash this. There are full guides on the HTC website. This will give you the correct radio.
@ OP, Download the files and use it is as simple as it gets, all you need to do is download the ROM from the ROM thread (the files will have the same name as the ROM title, choose the one which DOES NOT say 'Magldr' as this is for a different bootloader), place the Android folder on SD card and then run Clrcad and Haret. If you cannot understand this, I am unable to help you.

Many thanks again for the replies,
Upgraded the htc ROM , now can boot both Ubuntu & Android from windows
But...
started installing apps to the android & soon ran out of space
One of the threads recommended re-sizing the data.img BUT when I did that & installed the bigger file, apps market crashes , (as sometimes does the loader)
So great to have android but not so good if it does not have the required space.
ALSO
can not see the phone from either my windows or Linux computer EXCEPT when running windows - neither the htc or windows sync programs see it nor does the file system on linux
Any thoughts on the above please?
Many thanks in advance

Seems odd, I never had any of those issues? Try a different ROM maybe. What ROM have you tried?

[Q] Newbie to install android

Hi experts,
I have a HTC HD2 (T-mobile).I am using it as unlocked with Wind Mobile, Canada.I like to use Android froyo but not sure which rom and version of froyo I should consider. After seeing so many forum I understand that not all roms are for the T-mobile HD2.Does any one has little time to suggest me?As it was an expensive cell phone for me, I want to use all of its features including camera flashing,wi-fi and ofcourse Skype over wifi,G-sensor too.please help me.
Before you can get the correct rom you need to know a few things about your HD2. I have just done this (with a lot of help of people both on and off this forum) so I will sread what knowledge I have.
1) Figure out which SPL you have (restart your phone whilst holding down the volumn down key).
2) Download the correct HSPL for your phone.. so if you have SPL 1.66 then download and install HSPL 2 (as it covers 1.66, .172 etc
3) Verify that your Radio is 2.08 or above. if it is not then upgrade it
4) download your choose Andriod rom -- I brought down Froyo 1.8 mattcleofroyo1.8
5) your SD card has to have at least 2 gig free
6) unpack your android rom and you will get an Android folder - copy that to the root of your SD Card.
To start Android
============
NOTE: the first time you do this it will takes ages so DON'T PANIC - it can take up to 15 minutes
1) make sure you have at least 50% battery power or are on main power for the first start
2) go into the android folder and run the program CLRCAD - it will see to do nothing but that is ok
3) Run the program HARET... this will load and boot Android.
That it.. it isn't as complicated as it sounds. The important bit is the prep work making sure you have the minimum Radio version etc.
Good luck

Sorry I can't answer your questions as I only finished doing this last night. Until I fully sync my contacts - I can't play with android.
I also will be downgrading my radio to 2_12 to improve stability. Obviously it will take a week or so before i can comment especially on battery.
The instructions I gave will give you android but Windows Mobile will still be your initial OS. So you will boot WM then start android.
Like you .. I won't make Android my default OS until I have tested everything you mentioned.
Hope this helps.

[Q] Android and HTC HD2

ok first i wanna say that i have HTC HD2 and i am completly new to all this kind of hacking stuff.
My phone specs:
Hardware:
OS version: 5.2.21869(21869.5.0.82)
Manilla version: 2.5.19211619.0 (idk what it even is)
ROM version: 1.66.479.2 (76641) WWE
ROM date: 01/11/10
Radio version: 2.07.51.22_2
Protocol version: 15.32.50.07U
Hardware Information:
CPU: QUALCOMM(R) 8250B
Speed: 1024 MHz
RAM size: 448 MB
Flash size: 512 MB
Data bus: 32 bits
Ok so the question is: How can i get Android (Froyo please) working on my HTC HD2 and so that i can always return to my previous OS (WinMO6.5 the 1 that came originally with the phone) with all the settings and contacts.
Android --> HTC HD2
ps: sorry if this was discussed before, but i really dont want to risk my phone, this is why i beg you for help.
been discussed a million times b4, but it DOES NOT delete your WM, it runs seperate, so to return to wm its just a case of turning it off and rebooting and it will be like it was b4
<edit> thank you for atleast being a helpfull newbie and posting as much info re: your current set up as you did. had you not, i probably would have posted the link and said search... <edit>
this thread has all the info you'll need..
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=734335
im in a good mood right now, first, read the stickies, then look at the info you psted... you need a newer wm build and a newer radio...
personaly, since you realy need to start every thing from scratch, thats exactly what i would do.
download the latest oem build, hspl, task29 etc.
do a factory reset
flash latest oem
flash hspl
factory reset again, boot into bootloader, run task29.
you now have a clean phone, no left over garbage
flash the wm build of choice.
on to android:
pop the sdcard out, copy any thing you want to save to your computer
format the sd card, if your on windows, dont do a quick format, DO A FULL FORMAT
put android build of choice on the sdcard
folow instructions from the build of choice
note: on first boot, every thread says it takes a while.... its true! theres alot going on, it just doesnt look like it. its going to take a good 20min for it to convert file systems etc (this is why the full format is important)
personaly i recomend even once android boots up the first time, leave it alone for 5 min! dont even sign in! after the wait, do the setup, let it sync, then let it sit for another 5 after the synch.. reboot!
on 2nd boot, go ahead log into google maps, market etc.... search for some apps, play with ring tones, blah blah blah... .
last but not least, folow the link in my sig on battery conditioning....
Actually, there's no need to HSPL the phone!
Since the latest firmware update (the 3.14) will also update his radio to 2.15!
All one has to do is (after reading those stickes etc. of course!):
1. Update the phone as per instructed in the official HTC website
2. Look for a Froyo build in the Android development and follow its instruction
Cheers!
Wow guys, thanks alot. Look like i will have to read all that stuff for all this evening
btw, if i have like 500mb on phone memory and 2GB microsd card, will it be enough for Froyo ?
edit: after reading for like 2 hours i understood that i understand completly nothing. all i kno is that i need something thats called hspl (it requires something thats called spl, and anyways i didnt understood where to look for it) then i need to install like 1 wm rom, then only get android and do some majick with files. blah xD
anyways, thx for help, guys !

no, its not NEEDED, but id highly recomend it.
there are alot of steps people can take as shortcuts, alot of those shortcuts cause issues for some people.
for some one just starting out, esp for some one that pretty much needs to update every thing anyways, i recomend cutting out possable headaches, and wipeing EVERYTHING.
a clean nand and a fresh sdcard go's A LONG WAYS twards a stable system, esp since we need to basicly dual boot. its almost like running in a virtual machine, so any issues in the base os can result in issues in android.

[Q] I dont understand how to install androide :/

I have been reading this site everyday in about a month now - and probably every guide and How to:s.. But I still don`t get it..
I have a HTC HD2 (bought in Norway). I have ROM version 3.14 .. and Radio
ver. 2.15.50..
My question is: I cant find any guide that support this OS version and I have tried downgrade it, but I still cant get the same version on my HTC as in the guides.
I have also problem to find an android that suits my phone. I really want to try android, but I dont understand how to.. and what to choose.
I m sorry for my english skills and if I have missed a thread that is explaining my problem.
Can somebody explain how to do this in an easy way for me?
Best regards Lisa
Lisa
As you have the right radio version all you need to do is download any SD or RAM version of Android
See following post
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=881958
You need to continue from STEP B (Installing Android)

Thank you very much for answering me
I have downlaoded Android Loader v6.0 Final for HD2 and put it in the device memory. (like copy / past - the file is still unpacked)
Should I unpack this file before downloading a SD version of Android?
I have seen many screenshoots of different androids, is it possible to tell me what to choose? I just want one that works, and if possible norwegian language.
Best regards Lisa

If you want to run Windows Mobile and have Android load from within Windows Mobile (so you can reboot back into Window Mobile if needed) then first you want to download an Android Build and extract it to your storage card. *THIS* build is very stable and fast and its the one I used before switching to Android on NAND. Extract the contents of the download file to your pc and then copy the 'Android' folder to the ROOT of your storage card so you will have a folder in the top level of your storage card called 'Android'.
Then run the Android loader v6 app and follow the install instructions. When asked for the folder you want to select \Storage Card\Android (or whatever Storage Card is called in your Roms language.
After you have gone through that you will have a link in your start menu that you can click on to start Android running. It may take a few minutes longer the first time its run but after that its alot quicker. The first time you run Android though you want to shut it down, reboot into Windows Mobile and run the android link again. This is needed to make it work properly.
However if you want to install Android to NAND (internal memory) so that it boots straight into Android and gets rid of Windows Mobile altogether then just click on the guide in my sig and follow the instructions there.
Mark.

[Q] HTD HD2 SD card rom

Hello. It seems i have a strange problem. I am using HTC HD2 with windows mobile 6.5. I want to try out an android on my device but it seems i cannot do that. When i put it into my SD card (folder named Android) i click on clrcad.exe and haret.exe afterwards. The phone reboots and it says that it's switching kernel's. I have left the phone with this state for about a hour and it still did nothing - same message was left on the screen and nothing seemed to happen.
I have read, that at that moment android is creating a file named "data.img" or something like that. As i have seen in guides - that file is supposed to be included with original american android mod but when there is not one - android creates itself. The proccess should take approx 30 mins but even after hour nothing happens. To install ROM into my device i used this guide: http://androidforums.com/htc-leo-hd2/273125-guide-android-your-hd2-start-finish.html and this one http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=957652 (sorry if it is not legal to post external links here).
So i would like to ask you few things.
1) Could anyone upload AmeriCanAndroid (with gingerbread) somewhere where i could reach it? MULTIUPLOAD does not work - it's down all the time.
2) What could cause the kernel switch freezing problem?
3) Where could i download AmeriCanAndroid with data.img inside of it?
My radio version is: 2.08.50.14
SPL - 2.08.0000 HSPL
NOTICE: I need SD version
Thank you for your time
First, I think you should update your radio to either 2.12 or 2.15 ..
1- Sorry, can't reupload; my upload speed is less than a dial-up's download speed (I'm serious, btw)
2-It could be the radio, or misplacing of the Android Files. Try to look at the instructions of that ROM, it may be requiring something particular.
3-I don't think you will find it anywhere, because it is a large file and everyone is having it created, so no need for it to be uploaded.
I hope this help.
thanks for info

[Q] Easy one stop Android?

Ive for an HD2 im going to give to my friends girlfriend to replace her current T-Mobile phone thats junk and has a cracked screen.
I have installed HSPL 2.08 to match the stock SPL, but now ive come to a stand still.
I only have a 4GB card right now (unless someone can tell me how to format one from a WP7 device, Windows wont recognize it).
Im getting confusing info about the US devices and radio's as well.
Isnt there a one step install for Android to SD card? Even the 'easy for noobs' directions has many confusing steps.
Unfortunately, no. The easiest way would be sd android run with haret from within windows mobile, but even that requires an updated radio.
Just put windows mobile back, update the radio (which is relatively easy if you read enough) and drop any sd build on your sd card and then click on "clrcad.exe." then "haret" from File Explorer on your phone.
That's the easiest.
Never took WinMo off but i did manage to get a 16 gig card to use. How do i tell what radio it has?
Go into settings > software information > radio.
That's it.
I recommend flashing 2.15.50 (if you don't already have one that is 2.08 or above)
2.15.50.14? Cause thats the one i've seen said 'use' and 'dont use'.
Ok, its got that radio on it. So i guess im good and can just find an image to put on the SD.
Just go into the SD android development, pick a ROM, download it and extract it into /Android/ on your sdcard.. then follow my first post.
Which Android version it is more suitable for the HTC HD2
I have an HTC HD2 running the original windows professional 6.5. and I m interested to install the Android OS in order to get
a faster an easy OS.
But after reading several posts and watching a lot of vieos on Youtube I feel lost which Android version it is more suitable to my smartphone
and if it is possible to get a little bit of more speed I woul be very happy.
As far as I understand i will require to burn or change my ROM first and then install the Android. But there are the Rafdroid version, the Ice Cream the Jelly Bean and so. Today I read a notice somewhere that a a guy have obtained 1.66 Ghz of speed at the HTC HD2 that it is amazing.
A little of speed would be great but the most important it is to have the Android because it is easy and may allow me to view videos ouside
youtube.
I will appreciate you advice and comments how to decide about the Android version.

Well, i did, i found AmeriCanAndroid. But when i launch Haret it says it cant find the zImage which is not in the NativeSD folder, but in the kernal/boot folder. Also in following the guide for this on YT, when i copy it to the SD its only 123 megs, not 232 like in the video. So im lost as to whats going on.
Also, my ex-wife had an HD2 briefly that had Android on it that you could launch from a shortcut on the home screen. Any idea how to do that?
Ok, i got this resolved. Once i realized MAGLDR wipes WinMo off i found an EXCELLENT video on YT for dual booting WP7 and Android. Thanks to the guy who made it, very thorough and had the links to the required software in the comments.
