[Q] Phone think it is still connected to charger - myTouch 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

MYT4G Glacier / Virtuous Unity 2.37 (others too)
I have been having a problems recently. When I connect my phone to charger and then disconnect it it still thinks it is connected to the charger. The Orange light or the green light indicator stays on, the full says battery is full (if green light) and will not show the battery depleting. I was having this issue in another rom . I have wiped and reinstalled the roms, but the problem still remains. I have formated my SD card and no go either.
Any one running into this issue?

I do experience this some times. But not exactly the same problem.. I would suggest you swap batteries., factory reset.. or just go to T-Mobile authorized dealer they might be able to help.

Same thing happens to me as well occasionally only that when I unplug it from the charger the charger light stays on but the screen refuses to. Happened to me on stock T-Mobile gingerbread

The reason I said take it to T-Mobile store is because about 2weeks ago I had a co worker who couldn't charge his phone for nothing tried every chargers, took the battery out, nothing happened. Then we drove to a t-mobile store and they used their "special" charger lol.. and the phone started charging and was working.. wasn't sure what the guy did, but try the t-mobile store it should help.

X10a wont turn on !

MY phone died the other night and wouldn't charge. It blinks red when plugged in and will blink numerous times when you press power. Sometime when its plugged in and i press power it will only blink red once.
Its rooted with 024. Im screwed eh?
Also im with Rogers in Canada
I vaguely remember having this sort of problem before.
What was happening was the cable wasn't working properly for some reason, and my phone wasn't drawing enough power to charge. Therefore it not working, and the red flashing light. It wasn't actually charging.
Is it plugged in to charge via AC or USB? It might not be drawing enough power if it is charging through USB.
If it is charging though AC, have you left it to charge overnight? If a Li-ion battery enters a state of deep discharge, it may take a while for it to charge enough for the phone to be able to power on. This shouldn't be the case though, the battery should have failsafes to prevent this from happening.
If neither of these things do anything, I'd try either swapping the wall adaptor and/or the usb cable or the phone battery itself, and if those things work, you're out of luck.
Hope that helps.
Have tried two wall chargers different outlet and my two pcs. left it overnight twice. Im screwed lol

Tell Rogers that one of their Sales Reps burnt the phone while trying to show you how to charge it
Im going to take it back to walmart it is only 3 week old
I had the same issue with mine... it completely died out and would not start charging. Found it weird the phone couldn't be charged while being powered off (my old KRZR could do it)....
Anyway, I called up Rogers and told them the situation and they exchanged it with a new one. I don't let the phone go below 5% now in fear of it not being able to charge if it the battery is completely drained XD
was your phone rooted?
No... it was on the original firmware and all...
For some reason I forgot you rooted it when you replied. Rogers might not want to exchange it... Wal-Mart on the other hand will probably not even look at it and just exchange it.
Other option could be to buy a new battery?
it actually looks as if the usb port itself is chipped.
ok, i had the same problem with my old SE phones.
everytime i tried to charge it, it did not charge. other phones were charging thru same cable.
the problem in the OS.
what i did is upgraded thru SEUS.
try to plug it to PC thru USB cable without battery. then go thru procedure as u would go for upgrade and then put the battery back.
it might not work if your battery complitely dead, thought worth a try
Yea, cant connect to seus
your batter yshould be fine. it's just dead.
dont buy any battery just yet. i would replace the phone if i were u. without spending extra bucks.
this is the quickets solution i can think of.
however, for the future reference i will buy me extra battery just in case
good luck
Just had it turn on and it said less than 2% remaining connect to charger. It was connected. This happened before and it just shuts off.
yeah mine would open from time to time but instantly shut down also. Seems like it didn't have enough time to detect it was plugged in...
try returning it
This may sound weird but it worked for me. Try taking out the memory card and leave it out and plugging it in.
Yea. I tried every combination. Brought it to walmart qndvthey gave me a new one. 30 day replacment woo. Im nervous to root now

same problem... no solution ?
Hi, I'm new to the forum and I found this topic is describing the same problem I have. I bought an x10 mini pro (U20a) unlocked and it doesnt turn on with my service provider SIM, but if I try another service provider SIM card or without SIM card, it turns on normally. It's the same behavior, cause it wont charge either. Other users are reporting the same problem in SE support forums and it is related to X10, X10 mini and X10 mini pro. It seems to be related to software since a factory reset or a repair using PC Companion solves the problem partially, but for some users the problem starts again when their batteries dries out and want to charge their phones. In case anyone find a solution that really works, please post it here.

I'm disappointed because I have the exact same problem, but I'm outside of AT&T's 30-day return period (and they're being typical idiots about the issue). They have no replacement batteries (of course) so I've had to request one directly from SonyEricsson, which will take 5 business days to deliver. (!) Hopefully, this will resolve the issue; however, before you returned your phone to Walmart, I noticed that you thought you had a problem with a chipped mini-USB port. Do you know if that was part of the problem?

[Q] Phone freezing while charging

I have used several NAND roms on my HD2 and I there is this bug that I have been encountering on ALL magldr ROMs.
When I leave the phone to charge overnight either with the AC adapter or the USB cable, there is like a 50% chance that the phone freezes. Most of the time it will hang after the charging is complete (hangs with green LED indicator on), but sometimes it will also hang with an incomplete charge (hangs with orange LED lit).
I have two HD2s, an EU model and a TMOUS, and they both have this problem.
I have been searching for the past couple of weeks for similar reports, but cant seem to find any.
Has anyone else encountered this problem? Have you found a fix?
Do you mean it freezes when your phone is off? If so you should read more, MAGLDR is like that. It doesn't charge your phone when off.
No, I am not talking about the phone being powered down, but just with the screen off.
Anyobody else face this problem?

What is your MAGLDR version?

Do you use your phone while charging? Watch out for temperature, if so. Too much can lead to damage and on xda full of such stories, look for it
I have MAGLDR 1.13 on both devices. Actually, when I am using it while it is charging, it has not frozen on me with MAGLDR 1.13. Instead, it is freezing while the phone is idle.
I cant rely on my phone as an alarm clock since it randomly freezes during the night while charging.
I am new to debugging, but I know that logcat contains all error messages, but it is wiped clean after reboot from my understanding. Is there a way to put it to test overnight and find the error it died on when I reboot the phone?
Any suggestions?

Yes, I have the exact same thing!
I have to this problem
I've been dumping logcat to a text file and checking it after my phone has frozen overnight. But, I cannot seem to find anything significant in the last debug lines. So it seems like it is nothing from the software level.
Could it be a bug in the kernel or is it possibly MAGLDR?
Have you tried using the phone with no sim card in... sounds odd, but seems to be working for me- no freezing while charging anymore and no restarting! Some sim cards apparently do this... so need to change the sim- try using the phone for a day with no sim, and if it fixes it, then it could be the problem!
Very sympathetic, as this issue is proposed to replace ROM try.
Are you using the stock charger? I seen this problem when people use one of the third party USB wall chargers.

I do not think that it is related to the SIM card, more than it is to the radio itself. When my phone was in airplane mode when I had been travelling, I did not experience a freeze.

I am actually using the stock HD2 charger, or a USB cable directly to my PC.
I too have been plagued with this problem for the last week. Magldr 1.13 here

Battery/LED Issue

Hi, I'm hoping someone can help. On plugging the charger into my wife's Desire Z, the LED momentarily went orange (as per usual), but then started alternating between green and orange. Also, from appearing as if the phone was actually charging, it seemed to stop - and indeed has now lost all charge.
The charger works fine on my Desire HD - so it's definitely her phone.
After alot of googling, I've seen mention that this can happen if the battery is overheated, but I can't see how this battery has become so hot - plus, it's been off a day now and still won't work at all.
I'm guessing it's a battery issue, but just wondered if anyone else had experienced a similar thing/had any other ideas?
Thanks in advance.
Sounds like you should get a new battery and try that. The micro usb port might be broken. Does this issue occur when you plug it into a computer?

It does exactly the same when plugged into the computer.
Strange!
Will see if I can get hold of another battery at the weekend to try it.

[HELP] Phone freezing when trying to charge when phone powered off

Hi all,
Hope someone can help.
Running cm nightlies though my phone freezing when trying to charge when phone powered off
Red charge comes on, but can't switch on phone and need to remove battery this only happens when USB connected.
Charges normally when phone is booted and can switch on normally when USB is not connected.
Anyone have any ideas?
Sent from my HTC Wildfire
That is due to a bug in clockwork mod. Try flasghing the 3x one with offmode charging

Phone wont charge anymore!

So my SGS4 phone wont charge anymore!
- I went out on Sunday, and later came back home at night. I plugged in the phone and went to sleep.
The next day came over (Monday), in which my phone had full power and battery started draining for normal reasons. During the daytime, at one time, I noticed in the status bar, it said "T-mobile update" , I immediately lowered the status bar, but it was gone. Weird, I thought to myself as I didn't click any "yes" or "ok's", which I wouldn't press anyways. So the night came and I went to charge my phone to realize that it wont charge at all!!!
I tried:
- 3 different charges
- Charge by connecting it to PC (phone is not even detected)
- Let it plugged in all night powered off... woke up, still 2% batt. (Didn't charge)
I don't know what to do.
I might have to send it back to T-Mobile.
Info about my phone:
Rooted CF Autoroot.
No ROMs (Stock)

Have you tried turning it off and charge? See if the adapter pins are not broken on the phone?

Had a similar problem with s3. But it will super slow charge.. pc won't even detect but.
Samsung replaced the usb port and gave me brand new wall charger and usb cable. So get it serviced!

I'm sending the phone back to T-mobile.
My phone is rooted with CF-Autoroot (for the 9505).
Will I need to unroot, or change firmware????
Send it back. Unroot if you can.
where can I find the original firmware, or un-rooting way?
charge
Do you have another device to charge the battery? I wouldn't recommend trying to unroot your device without a battery with already 50%charge. Also, have you tried doing a battery pull for a few minutes to see if it will charge? I'd try doing a data wipe and factory reset before trying to unroot. You can find the stock firmware in the Android development forum. . just make sure to use the stock firmware instead of the prerooted firmware. I just worry that if you try to do a warranty claim, ttmobile might blame it on custom firmware and deny the claim... probably wouldn't happen but I'm overly cautious.
Try usb
After two monts, my S4 just stopped charging. Woke up one morning and saw that while plugged in all night, battery was at 40%, lower than when i plugged it in. I had been using a couple of old chargers and a dock...all had previously been working for a fairly speedy charge
So, plugging into a wall charger will not even get an acknowledgement from my phone, however, plugging into a turned on and charging laptop via USB will charge my phone. It takes longer to charge but works.
I am rooted and do not want to unroot and take my phone back to ATT unless i really have to. Hope to find a wall charger solution. Even the charger that came with the S4 is useless in the wall.
