Phone wont charge anymore! - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So my SGS4 phone wont charge anymore!
- I went out on Sunday, and later came back home at night. I plugged in the phone and went to sleep.
The next day came over (Monday), in which my phone had full power and battery started draining for normal reasons. During the daytime, at one time, I noticed in the status bar, it said "T-mobile update" , I immediately lowered the status bar, but it was gone. Weird, I thought to myself as I didn't click any "yes" or "ok's", which I wouldn't press anyways. So the night came and I went to charge my phone to realize that it wont charge at all!!!
I tried:
- 3 different charges
- Charge by connecting it to PC (phone is not even detected)
- Let it plugged in all night powered off... woke up, still 2% batt. (Didn't charge)
I don't know what to do.
I might have to send it back to T-Mobile.
Info about my phone:
Rooted CF Autoroot.
No ROMs (Stock)

Have you tried turning it off and charge? See if the adapter pins are not broken on the phone?

The pins are fine.
I have tried charging the phone ON and OFF with 4 different chargers.

Weird.... I don't know what else to do... :'(

Had a similar problem with s3. But it will super slow charge.. pc won't even detect but.
Samsung replaced the usb port and gave me brand new wall charger and usb cable. So get it serviced!

I'm sending the phone back to T-mobile.
My phone is rooted with CF-Autoroot (for the 9505).
Will I need to unroot, or change firmware????

Send it back. Unroot if you can.

where can I find the original firmware, or un-rooting way?

charge
Do you have another device to charge the battery? I wouldn't recommend trying to unroot your device without a battery with already 50%charge. Also, have you tried doing a battery pull for a few minutes to see if it will charge? I'd try doing a data wipe and factory reset before trying to unroot. You can find the stock firmware in the Android development forum. . just make sure to use the stock firmware instead of the prerooted firmware. I just worry that if you try to do a warranty claim, ttmobile might blame it on custom firmware and deny the claim... probably wouldn't happen but I'm overly cautious.

Try usb
After two monts, my S4 just stopped charging. Woke up one morning and saw that while plugged in all night, battery was at 40%, lower than when i plugged it in. I had been using a couple of old chargers and a dock...all had previously been working for a fairly speedy charge
So, plugging into a wall charger will not even get an acknowledgement from my phone, however, plugging into a turned on and charging laptop via USB will charge my phone. It takes longer to charge but works.
I am rooted and do not want to unroot and take my phone back to ATT unless i really have to. Hope to find a wall charger solution. Even the charger that came with the S4 is useless in the wall.

It won't work with usb. are you using the wall charger?
Sent from my X10i using XDA App
Yeah it's being charged from the wall using the apple usb wall plug.
I recommend only charging the phone when you're able to unplug it from the wall. The x10 doesn't seem to like trickle charging so you're better off keeping track rather than letting the battery cycle like 3 times while you're sleeping.
Ok i seem to have resolved it. I removed the apple usb and replaced it with the original. When it turned on again I plugged the mini usb down towards the battary which then stated that the phone was charging. If i knock it it will stop charging and I will have to do it again. Guessing fualty? by my means or its own?
Sounds like you weren't getting enough voltage out of the Apple USB charger (which makes no sense, but...) or your micro USB port is screwy.
I think it was the port, I tried diffrent micro usb leads to no avail. I put it into repair with o2 today =/2 weeks wait now though,

[Q] epic 4g permanently bricked on 2.2???!!!

I had my epic 4g and Odined to Dk28 with gps fix, clockwork, etc.
I played paintball and some of the dust went inside but when i got home i wiped the keyboard and slider. slider seems fine
I had the GPS running for about 2 hours until I got home. There was about 1/3 or 1/2 juice left but then It shut down and restarting, stating it only had no power left.
I took out the battery and it still boot loops (it gets to home screen - loads sd card/usb debugging/wifi and gps are on, but then reboots. im not even able to turn it off.
I tried pressing 1 and power for odin, it worked once or twice, but i wasnt able to flash it and restore it. (Yellow Com) but failed or not work.
after that 1 and power doesnt do anything, and neither does power, vol down, and camera.
please help, as i need to go back to work tomorrow.
thanks in advance.
Boot into Download Mode, flash back to stock (check the Epic Wiki for instructions), start over. Sounds like you've just got a bug somewhere in the whole process. Unless you've deleted, moved or whatever'd something you shouldn't have, you shouldn't be having this issue.
There is a thread for fixing bricked Epics.
If you press pwr, 1+pwr, vol. down+camera+pwr and nothing comes on nor charge light (red) comes on when plug in, then you have a very shiny expensive paper weight.
Sorry bro. I have one sitting on my desk with no insurance (OUCH)...
no light when i plug into usb or charger. cannot get into download mode. Wow i could brick a phone in under 3 weeks of getting it. going to sprint store.
Let us know what they say, Last time i went into the sprint store for an exchange they intentionally split water on the water damage film to try to say I voided my warranty. the reality is that they had already done diagnostics on the phone before they did this little trick so i was able to threaten to call my lawyer and got a replacement. I hate sprint so much....
Ouch, how did you know they already ran a diagnoses on it?
fone magically unbricked itself so i was able to get into download mode an Odin a 2.2 again. but the battery seems iffy...and this is only 3 week using the phone. its at 9% charged but shuts off. need to see if i can fully charge it. but may end up getting new phone at sprint store since its under 30 days and fone still looks new.
Maybe you just got a bad battery

Sounds like you need to reset your battery stats.
didnt get new phone yet since phone hasnt bricked itself again yet.
i fully charged it last night and took it off teh charger before i went to sleep. now 10 hours later. its at 66% is that NORMAL?
sprint cust support said i should use default CHARGER to get best charging results. im using a ebay generic CABLE on USB does that matter? do they mean charger or cable or both?
A plain USB cable used to charge on a PC only draws 380mA to charge. A wall charger, like the one included with the phone, will charge at 600mA.
But still, neither should take the 10 hours you are seeing really. Wall charger is usually 3-3.5 hrs and USB charging is somewhere around 5-6.

UH OH!
I was installing from some apks and the phone got into boot loop AGAIN!
I'm thinking about going to sprint and exchanging it. But im afraid of rooting it again...bc i think it might trigger the boot loop again. Any ideas?
re: last post, 66% after 10 hours of idle with screen off (this is "use"?) is normal?

[Q] Nexus 4 Charging Issues...Both Wired and Wireless (more than AC vs USB complaint)

Basic Info: I'm currently running **[4.2.2][CM10.1][LINARO]Team Asylum CM10.1 Nighty, build date April 18 (Had recently flashed lastest nightly, then started noticing my charging issue, and flashed an earlier version to see if that would fix it.. it didn't).
The problem: I let my phone on my wireless Energizer Qi charger overnight. Charging indicator lights all went on, and I went to bed. I woke up the next morning and noticed that the phone was only at 37%. Putting the phone on the wireless charger, i noticed it will light up, then turn off, then light up, then turn off. Figured, something wrong with the charger/case, so I removed the case and tried again, same thing. Tried attaching to computer via USB, and the same thing happened, the connection dropped in and out. Now I have it attached to wall outlet, and the same thing is happening, especially if I move it around.
I managed to get it to a consistent charge (says USB though its plugged into wall..) by leaning the phone up against something, but if I move it it cuts out...
I first was thinking maybe there's something wrong with the microusb port, like what happened with my HTC Evo after a while.. but the same thing happens with the wireless charging.. So, I'm not sure what to do.. Whether it's a rom issue, a hardware issue, a kernal issue.. Any thoughts on what I should do? Wipe battery stats?.. RMA?.. Complete nandroid restore?
Adding: I have Snapdragon Battery Guru on there.. if that's relevant to anything.. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.xiam.snapdragon.app&hl=en

UPDATE. Flashed francos milestone 2, and the problem seems to have disappeared.
UPDATE 2: jk it's still doing it.
I've had the same issue for about a month now. I removed the snapdragon battery guru app and it doesn't do it as often now but it will still do it. I also calibrated my battery with a battery calibration app when it became fully charged and now it will only do it about once every three days. I don't really have any other advice than that, all I know is that my phone started doing it after I finally caved and flashed a kernel.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
I have the same issue and I'm completely stock and unrooted. I will wake up in the morning and the battery is at, say, 80%. Unplugging the a/c and plugging it back in doesn't help at all. I have battery widget reborn and it tells me my battery is charging at 1% per 30 minutes. This morning I hooked it up to my HTC 8X charger and it immediately started charging correctly so I'm inclined to believe it may be the charger but it could've been coincidence since other times unplugging and replugging it works. Some other times I have to power off and then on in order for it to work again.

[Q] Charging Problem - Verizon xt907

Trying to fix a family members xt907 so here's the situation which has been nothing but headaches for me:
1. The Phone is only 7 months old and the bootloader is unlocked so warranty exchange is out of the question. She let the battery run down until the phone died. Then without charging the phone she turned it back on and it died again. From that point she couldn't get it to charge or turn back on while plugged in. At this point she brought it to me.
2. I got the phone and did a soft reset which finally got the charging screen to come up (showed the actual charging icon and the fill meter would flash up and then back down periodically). Problem is it never went past 0% after charging all night. I went ahead and tried to power it up thinking maybe it was just a glitch with the charging screen. Phone wouldnt boot. Just stuck at the Motorola logo. Another soft reset and the phone finally boots but now the battery icon showed a '?' and status showed '5% - Unknown'.
3. Performed a factory reset. No change. So I used RSD to flash the stock 4.1.2 firmware/kernel/modem, etc... What I found strange here is that despite the low battery Fastboot AP showed battery as OK, not low and let me flash (bootloader is unlocked, not sure if that affects low battery flashing or if that safeguard just wasnt built into the M).
4. So phone boots back up and shows 7% battery. Plugging in the charger at first notice has no affect. Battery stats shows '7% - Not Charging'. So I unplug the charger and the low battery warning pops up. Plug it back in and phone still doesnt register as charging, but says 'Not Charging'. Then I notice that the lockscreen shows '7% Charging'. Weird. Regardless of all that, the battery was not charging. The percentage never goes up and after reboots the percentage will remain the same. The battery does slowly discharge on the charger if I have it powered on.
5. I tried flashing a couple different roms before flashing back to stock and all had the same problem. I've formated /system hoping it was a problem with the OS but it didnt help. All of these charging tests were performed with the stock Motorola usb cable plugged into the wall charger. I tested the Motorola charger against my S4 to verify it works and also tried my Samsung charger on the Razr and it made no difference. However, booting the Razr M up with the Samsung charger resulted in the '?' in the battery icon and a notification in the status bar saying something about a CommServer starting. This notification was persistant and could not be dismissed. If I reboot the phone with the Motorola charger or no charger then that notification and the '?' dont appear.
6. I should also point out that I opened the phone up and disconnected the battery from the board and discharged the board. As a last resort I completely removed the battery and peeled back the tape on the bottom of the battery to expose the + and - terminals on the battery and wired it up to a stripped down charger and left it for a bit. Upon putting the battery back in the phone it showed a charge of 30% but still had all the same problems otherwise. So the battery is capable of taking a charge, it just wont take it through the phone, whether powered on or off. Thats what leads me to believe the battery itself is not bad. Its not practical for her to pull the battery to charge it, obviously. The phone detects the cable being plugged in and I can transfer files via usb cable to/from the computer no problem, so I'm fairly sure the Micro usb port is ok. Just refuses to charge.
A little lengthy but I'm at my wits end on this and really dont want to have her buy a $50 battery and then its a problem with the phone. I dont usually get stumped when it comes to fixing something but this one really has me. So if anybody can shed some light on this situation it would be greatly appreciated.

I presumed you tried to wipe the battery stats via the battery calibration app? not that I think it would make a difference. another option is enable/disable USB debugging. you could also try charging into a PC or a different outlet (perhaps that outlet does not provide a good current)?
not really sure, just tossing out some ideas...

I actually installed cwm recovery just to wipe battery stats. Im assuming it works the same way but I'll give the app a try. I'll try anything at this point. Tried your other ideas already though and didnt make any difference.
I appreciate the input. I'll give that app a try and see if it does something different from wiping battery stats in recovery.

Doubt it. However, the issue seems to be with the hardware, and since it is not a software issue, Motorola could honor the warranty. Last resort would be to unroot and see if you can get an exchange.

What did you have it plugged in to? The fact that it said it was not charging indicates maybe you didn't have enough power coming through the charging port...

No. Verizon finally sent her a refurb replacement. I got the battery to charge up by taking it out and rigging a charger to it. But the phone still wouldnt accept a charge with the battery back in and it lost the charge it did have 2-3 times faster than normal. Battery Stats also showed the battery was showing a pretty decent voltage so unless the battery itself has a low charge circuit that gets tripped I'd be hesitant to point to the battery itself. And the charger port transfered files just fine and the phone recognized when the charger was plugged in (would go from 'discharging' to 'not charging'. So yeah, I was left stumped. Hopefully somebody else can get this solved for you.

Just an update: I ended up buying a replacement battery and it fixed the charging issue. I rsd back to stock. Then, playing around with it, I booted to bootloader and selected "Factory" and it immediately booted back to stock, but, the battery had a "?" again. Ready to throw the damn phone against the wall, I rebooted it. The "?" is mysteriously gone. What is the "Factory" setting? I think I tried it before, but had CM10.1 installed. My theory is that this "factory" boot from bootloader actually soft bricked the phone. Either that or the issue was truly the battery and simply replacing it fixed things. I am up and running now, cm10.1 is flawless, imho. Thanks for the quick reply and I hope this helps anyone with similar issues.
Beware of the "Factory" bootloader option...........
Here we go again. Upon a reboot into recovery. Recovery is twrp 2.5. What I notice is the motorola boot img takes an extremely long time (2 minutes) to turn off and cyanogenmod to begin. Could there be something corrupt in the bootloader? Is there any way to reload the bootloader on this device? Anyone have any ideas? Could it be Recovery?

[Q] Help please. Nexus 4 gone :'dead' after charging ;-(

Good morning. Yesterday night i put my nexus into charging and when i woke up this morning the phone was dead. I have no reaction on any combination of the keys. I tried to remove a battery but i seems do not help me at all :crying: my phone is rooted and I'm using a LINAROBEAN Rom by tackleberry_crash last 2 or 3 months. I tried to connect my mobile into pc by i've got no reaction. Just charging led is on and thats it. PS. When i connect my phone into charger battery level was about 58%. Any ideas what might to be happened? i"m in UK. Just in case: how the servicing plocdure lookes like, and where i need to send my mobile?
If charging led is on, try and let it charge again, for an hour or so using wall plug or alternatively by computer. Then try to turn it on.
If it never turns on after you tried charging, maybe get a replacement battery?
I just came back from the work. Phone was in a charger about 10hrs (i used a diferent charger frommy htc). phone is still dead
