well so much for $20 for unlimited GPRS from t-mobile...
it's now FREE!!
I just found out T-Mobile has free unlimited GPRS.
The thing is, it's limited to webbrowsing and POP email.
If you pay $0, you get access to ports 80, 110, and 25. it's supposed to be wap only but it accesses http sites as well.
downside: cant access ssl, ftp, instant messenger, etc (anything that uses other ports). for that, you have to pay the $20 per month.
i just dumped my $20/month plan this evening cause i can do without those other ports, is it wooth $20/month to use IM? i dont think so. free unlimited gprs webbrowsing owns
oh yeah, and the aim client on the ppc can be set to port 80, so it works.
now i switched from internet2.voicestream.com (which stopped working for me once i called in and cancelled the $20/month data plan) to wap.voicestream.com and i still browse sites, send email, etc.
no bank site access (ssl) but bank access isn't worth $20/month, i'll wait to be on my desktop for that.

you are a... GENEOUS!! (is that how its spelled? )
now, have u figured out how to get and send MMS from pocket pc, without ordering Tzones?
MMS is no longer part of the T-Zones. With the same changes for the "Included WAP Access" also came "Unlimited Picture Messaging". They've made it where you don't have to do T-Zones for sending/receiving MMS. HOWEVER, you are charged $0.25/MMS that you send/receive. There is a promotion for $4.99/mo that gives you Unlimited Picture messaging through 12/31/04. After that date it reverts down to 50 for the $4.99.
Hope that sheds some light now on the matter.
Thanks for that info. I'm Looking forward to using it when i get my XDA II in a few days.
They won't list zero cost features on the site. All phone plans come with the free WAP access now. If your phone isn't working with it, contact Customer Care and ask them if it's on your account. They will add it i'm sure.
It was originally setup to allow customers to download ringtones and wallpaper without signing up for the monthly fee. Seems like this is a small little suprise for us tho!
I tried it and is not working for me. Are you sure that I can just call CS and they'll add it to my account?. I don't want to spoil people's luck. Maybe is an oversight from them
Ive used both, and if your not going to use the gprs for anything too overbaring go 4 it, but with the wap access, it limits alot, plus is significantly slower
btw: im sure TMO will charge u for sumthing extra sooner or later
(pps) (i have a feeling there are undercover TMO employees spying) :!:
you need to use the address wap.voicestream.com
it's not slower, it's the same speed.
it is limited in that you only get web browsing and emails (ports 25, 80, 110 and 143 for smtp, http, pop, and imap respectivly), if you want all the ports (for instant messaging, ftp, ssl, etc) you need to get the $20/month data plan.

so then why was it that when i was downloading a 2mb file it would take 15-20 minz....not it takes 5-7 minz :?:
OK, I tried and it keeps not working for me, I called T-mo and they say that that is only for regular handsets, that for us, we would need a data plan, they even xferred me to tier2 people, (which were clueless) and he said that in order for me to take advantage of the internet, I have to pay.
I said for the to reset my settings in their end, but they said that they have nothing to reset, since I don't have any data plan.
I have tried all, changed the internet2.voicestream.com for wap.voicestream.com, try making a new connection, with all those settings, and nothing. Anybody know any clues?
try internet3.voicestream.com
-arebelspy
internet3.voicestream.com is for their VPN option ($19.99/mo)
internet2.voicestream.com is for their non-VPC option ($19.99/mo)
wap.voicestream.com is for their WAP service (all other devices)
I thought I also saw somewhere the address wap.myvoicestream.com. Now I can't remember which one works.
internet3 has worked for some people without data plans (only the free wap service). no idea why.
try them all to try to make it work, lol.

Yea its the T-Zones home page, try it and see ( http://wap.myvoicestream.com ).
Oh yea I forgot to mention that it only works with a WAP browsers.
HTH
what are the instructions for setting this up? I just opened IE and it works but I wonder if im being charged per minute?
Nope, T-Mobile no longer counts MBs, minutes, anything. Every plan has free browsing (free access to ports 25, 80, 110, and 143).

can't email other than optonline???
i have the imate ... i set up the account with my email as [email protected] using mail.optonline.net incoming /outgoing now i can recieve from everyone ..i can only email out to another @optonline.net account .......no @aol.com or business account [email protected](my business address at work)... so what iam doing wrong....please help
I swear! I didnt think T-mobile could get any ... more ... better than AT&T. I was, once again, wrong.
the pge http://wap.myvoicestream.com does not seem to come up on PocketIE - a post above says that PIE can handle wml pages...
So, is the address incorrect, or is it PIE that cannot handle WAP?

:?: i know its not specific to xda11 but does anybody know the format of the bill when using gprs with o2...is it just a bill for the amount of data downloaded or do you get a list of internet sites visited the previous month?[/i][/b]
I just get the amount of data used for each session.
I use online statement option. Here is an example of my GPRS charges breakdown.
Code:
Date Time Destination Volume(Kb) Amount(£)
17/06/04 09:41:25 mobile.o2.co.uk 1135 2.213
All the destinations are listed as mobile.co.uk even though I was actually going to lots of different destinations.
That's because you use that APN

Yes I realise that . So to answer bluem00n's question...it looks like it doesn't show individual site URLs (at least with online statements).

Thanks for the info unfortunately my company insist that I pay for all private use (phone calls and surfing)...I receive the old fashioned paper bill...usually about three months late!!! so I am wondering how to seperate the surfing between business and private....obviously without specific site useage on the bill my private use will be remarkably low!!! ....it just remains to be seen if my paper bill will be in the same form as your on line bill...thanks again :?:
I would be interested to know.
O2 internet billing
I don't receive mine untill the end of the month, well 15th next month and I'm told it will be billed and rounded up to nearest 5 kb, and its £2.25 per mb downloaded. including mail.

I just called T-Mobile to add the $5.99/month T-Zones web plan for my Wing, however the rep told me that this plan is not available for accounts with the wing phone. She then tried to sell me the $19.99 data plan, which I declined.
After paging through MyTMoblie account, I found that nowhere does it even mention the $5.99 plan.
To add the plan, you must click the "Not your phone?" link in the upper right hand corner of your MyTMoblie account after logging in. Change your phone to something which will be compatible with the tzones, I picked the RAZR V3. This doesn't give you an upgrade phone, you're not buying anything, this is just TMobile's way of tracking which phone you are using.
Now under the "My Account" tab, choose "Change serves" and add the $5.99 tzones web plan!
Hope I can help someone else out!
i dont think there the same speed but i could be wrong

What are the same speed? The RAZR and the Wing?
It doesn't matter, the Tzones works for any phone configured with the correct proxy, but some reps want you to go for the $20/month full internet plan. If you heavily use the net on your phone, then maybe the full plan would be best for you, but if you are only a lite user, the 5.99 is much more practical for e-mail, weather, etc.
i have the 5.99 plan and i cannot use email or weather.
how do you use it?
search!

You can use the search button here to look up t-mobile Proxy. There have been numerous threads on how to set up the proxy in Windows Mobile
I have been using this proxy for a long time.. I started with tzones back when it was 4.99... glad I save a whole dollar every month.. gonna be rich soon!
Any way to get the T-zones wap browser back once you've flashed your Wing? T-Mobile has closed the proxy hole, and now I'd like to test out T-MobileWeb and see if I like it or if I should drop the $5.99
yea, my wing wont use t-zones... every website comes back with a can't b displayed or w/e it say's....
any1 with us service that uses it till this very day fine??
cuz i got it taken off my account... wondering if i should give it another try
It's been working for me since November 2007, I am in the Northeast USA.
Other than not being able to access Hotmail/MSN Messenger/HTC Home weather, everything else works.
I have been using the T-zones proxy for over 1 year in MN with no problem. I have flashed numerous roms in that time and have no problem setting it back up each time. I also use internet quite often and don't find it to be much, if any slower than the 20 dollar service.
Also, if you flash Trans Open-Touch V6.5 and use throttle launcher the weather will work properly even with the proxy. I have not been able to get it to work with HTC home though.
OK guys,i paid for plan TMOBILE WEB $9.99
with this plan i set up the APN is epc.tmobile.com for any fone like IPHONE,ORIGINAL HERO it work like a charm, but how come with MY TOUCH and use with HERO rom i cant do that, its always show me the screen upgrade to 24.99 plan
if you dont believe what img oign to say, load up the mytouch wtih the factory rom and see what happens.
t-mobile has a list of imei's for the mytouches and forces them onto the 24.99 plan.
Strange.
Verify your APNs and perhaps upgrade your plan.
You could even "claim" to T-Mobile that you have certain features without plan information access and they might provide you with the "internet" setting necessary to launch a "WAP" browser.

My grandfathered $7.99 t-zones worked with my mytouch for the first day and it gave me that message. Was going to activate it anyway, but just forgot. My friend told me that his iphone no longer works with EPC access point in hawaii
I have HTC pure which i'm using on T-mobile (US) connection. Now I have the data plan Unlimited Web which cost $9.99 monthly. I was wondering if I could use that for surfing the net on phone. Can anybody tell me the settings?
yes u can i stll have my 5.99 plan lol use internet2.voicestream.com in settings if not then try wap.voicestream.com
but what about proxy...do I need to use any proxy server?
no you dont. theres a way to get that even cheaper $6.99 tzone plan which uses proxy. theres a code that you tell to the billing department of customer service and they can add it in for you. the down side is that you cant get pop or imap mail with the $6.99. the $9.99 plan is similar but it doesnt use a proxy. if i were you, i would get the "tmobile shadow unlimited" plan, at least its somewhat a smartphone plan so if you get called about anything, you can argue that you have the right plan. they will call you up if you suddenly switch to a more superior phone like nexus or touch pro and push you to upgrade. i just use the excuse "im just borrowing and testing this phone from a friend" and they usually buy it and never bother me again.
nope you dont have to do any of that...just use the regular setup and then go into setup...connections...connections...advanced...select networks...and under tmobile data... change epc.tmobile.com to internet2.voicestream.com and reset and u are all done
^^Seems t-mobile needs one whole month to activate a service
they said it wud be done from start of next billing cycle which is like 20days from now
