I just rooted my phone the other day and of course the night I go out and leave the phone at home the g/f has to use my phone. Well it said OTA and she thought it was something I didn't finish and, yup u guessed it she gave me the update. I lost root as you know and now is there any way for me to get root back at this point?. I have a HTC Espresso 3g slide with T-Mobile and any help would be appreciated a lot. I was all set to do my ROM today and now this. Go Figure...
Not At this time no.

i forgot where i read this, but i read in theory that the Droid X method to root should work on any previous android phones, jus needs to be changed for the phone..
This method i did use for my N1 and it worked great! some one was able to make it work for the n1 hopefully some can do the same for the Slide
I looked into this method and yes it should work I have the files and ill upload them and post them in a new thread and see if we can get it to work.
I works off of some exploit in the working android system to trick the device into trusting the su and superuser.apk and busybox as android systems files and installing them, has to do with bluetooth and wifi exploit it least that's what I understood

Ace I have a quick question if I may. Since I didn't RoM my phone before it was updated I was curious if you just lost root or did it put you back to stock 2.1 - update1? I am new to this and any place I can learn a few things I try to. We all had to start someplace

It was already on stock firmware, i manually updated my phone since i was having trouble rooting it. It wouldnt say offline in rec mode, but i tried it after the update with a new sd card and it says offline now...But it doesnt matter since root is blocked anyway..

Well I have been looking everywhere looking for a fix for this and it seems right now that you and I are the only ones that this has happened too. I'm sure there are others. Just for a lack of something to do I have been trying all sorts of things but nothing has worked so far. If I find a fix I will post it here to help out of course. Sooner or later someone will come up with one since all the phones being sold now or people that haven't rooted yet will need new root.zip files I would think.

YUP this method would be great!, but to let you know this method does not fully install BusyBOX! learned this yesterday lol
when your in terminal or adb shell and do "cp" cmd it will give you not found.. but i found this script to fully install it after root
http://zedomax.com/blog/2010/07/07/android-hack-how-to-install-busybox-on-your-android/
if you wanted to do a "cp cmd" you would have to do "busybox cp"
I just posted a hot to in dev section that will walk you thru downgrading and easy root vs loop method.

Be careful if you are rooted...
Since this RUU is a full update, it will wipe your phone and you will lose root. It will also flash a new HBOOT loader which will probably not allow you to regain root.

CORRECT! I know I've said this before but it would awesome if someone could remove all the bloatware. This way we would have Liberated FR008 but without the bug in the weather widget (regardless to what some user may say, it is annoying). In other words: We'd have Perfection

YES! So if you want to keep your phone rooted do not install this. Just wait untill someone can extract the rom and make it flashable though Clockwork Recovery. Knowing the developers on this site is not going to take longer than a week.
No Apps2sd? No live wallpapers? pls reply.
Might just stay with the rooted rom

You are now in the same boat as the Asian Arias and European Gratias. There has been no exploit found on the current HBOOT loader for those that have taken the Froyo 2.2 update, so a permanent rooting solution is not possible. You might be able to get temp root using ZRoot.
So... there's hard evidence that this contains the same HBOOT? Or are we just assuming that it contains the same?
I'm not downlplaying what has been said over this update, and I was definitely not planning to update (since I'm running CM7 anyway), was just being curious.
I updated my Aria today and I have two questions
1) Froyo was supposed open up the LED API's right that way it would allow us to change the color through third party apps, how come I still can't do that even after I disable the notifications is settings like the app instructs me to?
2) The Facebook app for android is supposed to have push notifications for android 2.2 and above devices, how come I'm still not receiving these notifications?

In examining the ROM.zip file in the RUU, the HBOOT loader is now version 1.02. The original Aria HBOOT loader is 0.57. I just found an old post that stated the Gratia had HBOOT 1.01 and I believe that the Asian Arias that have taken the Froyo 2.2 OTA were updated to HBOOT 1.0x. So that my evidence and conclusion.

Any different links yet? HTC site has been slow since the update was posted
whats so special (or unspecial) about having a sprint id? i mean i've read about but will it be mandatory for our phones? also i already have 2.2.1when they first sent it out...well i downloaded it via samsung's website with the sd card/update.zip file and its working great for me-no issues at all. i'm also rooted with the One click root and recovery for the epic 4g V2.55 with clockworkmod redirector that i got from this site. will i get this update pushed to my phone and if i do will i have to update?? i had great luck and success with this version of froyo and well if its not broken dont fix it. i might download and save it to my comp just in case it gets really good reviews then i'll put it on my phone. any thoughts, ideas, and/ or suggestions?
If I understand correctly, as long as you have the official rom from Samsung, regardless of rooting, you should still be able to receive official updates, although those are few and far in between, lol. I'm not expert but if I'm wrong, someone please correct me
As far as Sprint ID goes and all of that other jazz, I like having all that crap out of my phone. After reading about the Carrier IQ buried within the phone, I don't trust any sort of Sprint stuff in my phone, especially if it's draining my battery just being idle and hidden.
So...as your question goes, I have no idea, I just wanted to give you my 2 cents on stuff
Sprint ID is just a way for them to bundle apps together. It seems like an okay idea for new android users, but I pretty much know what apps I will and won't use and don't really want them to add extra junk I don't need.
will i have to use it? i want to customize my phone my way not sprints ideas of what my phone should look like. if it installs fine but i wont use it

will i still be able to use the one click root that i've been using on this new update? sorry for the questions i'm just trying to soak in the info. also will there be an option for a manual update with the sd card or will it be just OTA??
Assuming you are rooted, simply open up Root Explorer and navigate to the following folder:
system/app
Locate the file called W_Installer.apk and either delete it or rename it. This puts Sprint ID where it properly beongs, in the **** can. Make sure you do this before you click on the Sprint ID icon or all bets are off.
If you clicked the ID icon then you have an opportunity to get up close with your OS because it will be a royal PITA to ditch ID after the fact. Alternatively you should consider ODIN to stock and start over again (recommended).
Having played around with ID you might like it if your a total noob about android apps. Make sure you really read the licensing agreement! BTW, once you click on the ID icon you are committed to either take a basic ID or one of the other more specialized ID's. There is no other option once you click the installer icon!

Should still work, but no guarantee since we don't have it to try yet. Best bet is to wait a short period of time after the release of EC05 for a dev to add root access to the stock ROM, then you can just ODIN without any issues or fear that you will lose root and not gain it back easily =)

sprint ID has one benefit.. you can get rid of nascar alot easire with the clean ID lol
i do have a question about unrooting. i'm rooted with the One click root and recovery for the epic 4g V2.55 with clockworkmod redirector. i was researching/ reading that i can still receive ota updates if i've never installed any roms, kernals, etc and if i never deleted any bloatware. is this true? the only thing i did was root my phone to basically get shootme to work (sad but true...i heart that app). i've left everything else as is. now i am on the once official release of froyo but i got it via samsung's website and used the sd card/ update.zip file method. sprint told me that i could still receive the ota of the new froyo even though i have the "un"official version they released. what i didn't tell them was that i rooted my phone. so that's my question...can i still get the ota if i'm rooted? also if we are able to update to the EC05 froyo can i use the sd card/ update.zip file method again? do i have to delete any file or files from my sd card ie. the EB13 zip file and the clock work mod file that was created on my card when i rooted? thanks for all the help!
sprint id will allow us to be like the borg until google android 3.x for phones arrive. that 3.x version will outlaw all custom interfaces so that their will be a common user interface. a common user interface will be awesome. imagine using any android 3.x phone and the experience is the same. I am suprised that sprint has not done this with htc, but htc has their own interface for windows mobile 6.x and android....
i cant wait for htc to run i-os device. i think that apple should license i-os and mac os to others... more money in it....

Hello,
This topic was made to help out new users or users that are unfamiliar with rooting the new Firmware.
There have being many questions,so i decided to put it all in one here because i KNOW how people dont like searching XDA.
I dont take any credit,i just got a bunch of links and posts, put em all in one place for new users that dont like searching / exploring AND because the forums are very messy
Step 1: Get the FlashTool 2.9.1
http://www.multiupload.com/7H4JT35B6G
Step 2: Get any 2.3.4 or future FW FTF file you can find
I used this one,as it is the only one availbile since 24/09/11 ! In a couple of days/weeks people are going to post UK/US ones
here it is :http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1269845
Here is the New one ; UK one
Step 3:
Read Dousans simple post on how to get the flashtool to work,im feeling lazzy
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=17804320&postcount=2
FAQ:
After flashing you WILL lose ROOT!
There is a small tick box saying not to wipe data in flashtool , you can tick it
Factory data reset will not terminate bootloader or root
Root or Bootloader unlocked is not required.Think of it as a PCCompanion, only this time you choose which fw you want to select.
Depending on the firmware, gsm/cdma may not work properly, please wait for a global ftf or stick without placing calls or use data for web.
Ex. R800i with verizon ftf may not work at all and you can't place calls or use data.
Step 4: To retain root you need to go visit this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1130639
NOTE: I bet u were doing good so far, getting to 2.3.4 and such, however, here comes the tough part for learning users. Please, read step4 very carefully, and check if your phone is SIMLOCKED or SIMUNLOCKED.Why read carefully?there are links which you honestly dont need if you know about your phone well (for ex.u know if its not Simlocked,R8OOI and such)
BOOTLOADER IS REQUIRED!
IF YOUR PHONE IS SIM-LOCKED or R8OOX go here to request an unlock : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1254416
Remember to put the zip first on your SD card and then use fastboot to boot up CWM,you will then gain root access by flashing zip from CWM (Tested and working for me )
If your bootloader is not unlocked, visit this thread (if your phone is simunlocked and any other models that are not R8oox) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1043630
OR this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LRH3pC7MhEA
Optional Step 5 ; relock bootloader
forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1134334

*more facebook extensions inside Xperia play
If anyone wants me to add anything, tell me
As of now there shouldnt be much questions on this FW
Thanks to:Everyone who i linked to their posts Remember, they take the ctedit! not me! i just put it all in 1 thread for newbies!
WANT TO ROOT WITHOUT UNLOCKING BOOTLOADER?
Edit :while totally ignorant of this post, another way to root is to downgrade to 2.3.2, install gingerbreak and do a software update from your phone. Remember never to delete any system apps as it will not update ever. Your bootloader must be locked aswell, if you wish to relock the boot loader go here
forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1134334
FOR you to upgarde software without FT or BL .imgs, you need to wait for it to be released on your carrier, which may take months or weeks.Dont do it by PCCompanion btw
Thanks, how can I keep all of my data? can I use a Nandroid of 2.3.3?
No need for a nandroid backup.
There's a simple way. When selecting the file for flashing in Flashtool, uncheck the Wipe user data button and all your data (apps, messages, contacts) will be retained.
Bringing up my post, if you make a forced flash with R800x you MAY have some side effects like market not downloading or making no calls
This is, of course untested, so I'm not sure.

Great post thank you.
It's not necessarily that people dont like searching, its that the information is fragmented all over the place in these forums.
A central guide was desperately needed.
This should be stickied.
Good point, I'll edit
If you want to sticky hunt down a mod a tell him to sticky. I will need more votes though as one request is not enough
Sent from my R800i using XDA App
by "performance increase" you mean?
does PSXperia still works?
I think we need this as a sticky aswell, it would be nice to get rid of some of all those root posts
One thing you might ad in your edit about downgrading/gingerbreak/upgrade to retain root on new builds, is that this method will only work if you have a LOCKED bootloader or else you'll brick your phone. Bin4ry has posted a solution for that, but afaik people still has some problems after using this and some don't and it only works if you haven't tried anything else before that to rescue/restore your phone. Maybe a link to blagus tutorial on how to lock your bootloader would fit in nicely aswell
Regards Dousan...

If you want to know Anyhow, the fastboot files you had from unlocking bootloader, put the future doomkernel4 in there and if your using Vista/Win7/win8
Shift+Rightclick
and type this in:
fastboot flash boot X.img
X = the name of the doomkernel4 once it comes out
======
For Bravia Mod,put the ZIP in your SD
Go and use the Clockwork mod recovery you used to get Root, and instead of finding the rootxperia.zip ,find the bravida mod.zip
if you still dont understand how to the get the bravia mod working, replace the Rootzip with bravia mod in Step4

My question is why does it matter if we have root? God forbid we want to remove Verizon Crapps and feel like we own our phones. It's the same with AT&T not allowing any type of unlocked phone on their network.

If you remove the Verizon apps, that's less of an opportunity for Verizon to make money off of you. They also talk about security issues, which I can actually see a point to it. After having had my father destroy a computer by deleting system files and registry keys, I believe that root access in the hands of the technologically illiterate could be devastating.
However, that's why they can claim that warranties are voided, because it was something we did to mess it up. Frankly speaking, it's business. They pay people to develop these apps, and the OEMs pay people to make the user interface, which I'm sure is why they like to lock the bootloaders. In other words, companies like to make money, which means they're going to try their hardest to make sure they have every opportunity to.
I posted in the other forum too but maybe I can get some answers here too...
So.. I was on stock 2.3.3 rooted with locked bootloader. Took the OTA without unrooting and now I seem to be on the new 2.3.4 with root. Root checker app confirms it, how do I verify this?
Edit: I used titanium to remove a system app and used open garden and was prompted with the superuser screen

My question is why does it matter if we have root? God forbid we want to remove Verizon Crapps and feel like we own our phones. It's the same with AT&T not allowing any type of unlocked phone on their network.

A big part of it is that the carriers don't wanna receive calls from people who did something stupid after rooting, and want repair/replacement.

So am I to understand that if I use root keeper when I've used the zergrush method then I'm okay?

If you are rooted then update OTA you usually keep root access.

In preparation for 2.3.4 I flashed a stock 2.3.3, rerooted, then went ahead with the OTA. It kept root but for some reason my signal and wifi indicators are now a constant gray. Everything works fine so I guess its nothing major right?

I have the same issue. Called Verizon to see if it was part of the update, they called Sony "who could not tell" but said "if everything is working, dont worry about it."
I had the Verizon 2.3.3 firmare, and rooted with zregRush. Before the OTA I read that it would fail with root, so I unrooted the phone. Started having a couple issues, so minor I do not remember what they were, but ended up using flashtool to reflash the stock image I downloaded. Everything was fine then, my icons were turning green when connected, and all. Then did the OTA, and everything is working but the icons for wifi and 3g never go green. Is there any more word on this? Is there any futher word on zeregRush rooting?
I have the doomloard linux script to to the root process, and I tried to run the commands instead of the script, I found that I was unable to create or pus files to the device, so I tried to use the sdcard, but when running the zregRus program all I get is access denied!

Sorry to quote your whole reply. I'm currently mobile. I have the same greyed out issue and turns out a lot of people are having this issue with 2.3.4 on other phones. Galaxy Nexus for exmaple. They are all using stock like most of us with R800x. My Wifi and 3G do work flawless but its annoying because I can never tell if its lost signal or not.

Check G-Talk, if that can't connect, that's the issue (I had the issue on a non-rooted version, too)
Pax

I checked G-Talk, and no it can not connect to the server. Is this an issue I can fix(reload app, factory reset??) or is this something in the update?

BTW I have locked bootloader, never messed with that! Did root, 2.3.3 also had an issue were I used flashtool to load the R800x_3.0.1.E.0.88_Verizon.ftf so I guess I am not quite sure if I was running a stock image before I did the OTA to 2.3.4?

If you ftf'd back to stock, you were on a unrooted device when you updated, so root isn't the problem
