I just rooted my phone the other day and of course the night I go out and leave the phone at home the g/f has to use my phone. Well it said OTA and she thought it was something I didn't finish and, yup u guessed it she gave me the update. I lost root as you know and now is there any way for me to get root back at this point?. I have a HTC Espresso 3g slide with T-Mobile and any help would be appreciated a lot. I was all set to do my ROM today and now this. Go Figure...
Not At this time no.

i forgot where i read this, but i read in theory that the Droid X method to root should work on any previous android phones, jus needs to be changed for the phone..
This method i did use for my N1 and it worked great! some one was able to make it work for the n1 hopefully some can do the same for the Slide
I looked into this method and yes it should work I have the files and ill upload them and post them in a new thread and see if we can get it to work.
I works off of some exploit in the working android system to trick the device into trusting the su and superuser.apk and busybox as android systems files and installing them, has to do with bluetooth and wifi exploit it least that's what I understood

Ace I have a quick question if I may. Since I didn't RoM my phone before it was updated I was curious if you just lost root or did it put you back to stock 2.1 - update1? I am new to this and any place I can learn a few things I try to. We all had to start someplace

It was already on stock firmware, i manually updated my phone since i was having trouble rooting it. It wouldnt say offline in rec mode, but i tried it after the update with a new sd card and it says offline now...But it doesnt matter since root is blocked anyway..

Well I have been looking everywhere looking for a fix for this and it seems right now that you and I are the only ones that this has happened too. I'm sure there are others. Just for a lack of something to do I have been trying all sorts of things but nothing has worked so far. If I find a fix I will post it here to help out of course. Sooner or later someone will come up with one since all the phones being sold now or people that haven't rooted yet will need new root.zip files I would think.

YUP this method would be great!, but to let you know this method does not fully install BusyBOX! learned this yesterday lol
when your in terminal or adb shell and do "cp" cmd it will give you not found.. but i found this script to fully install it after root
http://zedomax.com/blog/2010/07/07/android-hack-how-to-install-busybox-on-your-android/
if you wanted to do a "cp cmd" you would have to do "busybox cp"
I just posted a hot to in dev section that will walk you thru downgrading and easy root vs loop method.

Anyone tried this? Just curious im already rooted just maily would like it to unroot.

It worked great for me, I rooted with it, tried a few root only apps...then I unrooted with it to see if it works, and it worked...then I rooted again so I can use those root only apps.
worked for me. painless, and quick. total time....less than 5 minutes.

Really Works? The Rooted Apps too?
Does this really work and do the rooted apps function? Why does this work and the bootloader has not been cracked? Cunfused....
And now there's this too.
I cant seem to get this to work. I downloaded the file, went and clicked root me and it just sits there. How long does it normally take
If that's all you did, then you need to reread the instructions. I'm sure it clearly states to toggle Bluetooth or wifi. I don't want to burn anyone but in my opinion, if you can't follow instructions maybe you shouldn't be rooting your phone.

will we still be able to use the one click method to root our phones after we have installed OTA update Froyo 2.2 from verizon in September. I have not rooted my X yet because the only thing i need it for is wifi tether and adblocker, i dont really need the custom ROMs. will i still be able to do this once my phone has received the update, if not will they develop a root for phones that have been updated via OTA
sorry for being such a noob thanks for your help

You cannot currently root a 2.2 device (unless you upgraded with that update.zip to 2.2 and moved SU), but I m sure that it will come sooner rather than later
universal androot
Im using universal androot and have my phone rooted, which i believe is the same thing as 1click root will i still get the ota in September with root on, I hope i have not posted in a inappropriate place I just was curious.

I tried universal androot v1.6.1 and it was a no go, seemed soon after installing toolkit it kicked me out. I did the update.zip so i'm up to 2.2 now. Gonna try the droidx root in the first post see if that does it.

this is incorrect. you can root your 2.2 Droid X with this method: http://www.droid-life.com/2010/08/26/droid2-rooting-method-works-for-droidx-running-froyo/
worked like a charm on first go for me.
My speaker on the back of my droidx is blown i need to take it to verizon. How do i get rid of superuser permissions app in app drawer? I rooted with universal androot. I was told you have to remove it first then unroot. So i looked for it in app manager to delete it but its not there. I tried unrooting it still not there. Rooted it back still not there. Its the fact that the OP said "HTC root is finally here." Its not finally here, its been here for a long time.
No one is passing judgement, we are just saying root is not new...even for .7. That app might be new, but root is not.
P.S. if those 100's of Hero users running .7 had read XDA, or done a simple Google search, they would have known you can root. .7 hasn't been out for 6 months, so you could have used Androot.
At any rate, enjoy your rooted phone.

Exactly. I've been playing with rooting devices since I had a HTC Mogul running WinMob.
These one-click solutions are nice and all but are usually the polish to an otherwise multi-step solution that has been around for quite a while.
But it worked with the ROM you would have had 6 months ago when you said you started searching.

if so i would say go to theimpaler747 thread for cyanogenmod Q&A, the OP is VERY helpful. I used regaw's root and my freind as well, worked fine for our heros, reread the steps just to make sure you didn't miss anything.
I tried all these one click solutions on mine with the .7 upadate and they didn't work. I looked around for hours like most noobs do before they post... and the only thing that worked for me was to run the RUU to get it back to basics.
So my little first contribution/suggestion, if it's worthy, would be to note in this thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=694572) where it says .6 underlined, to read .6 and above .7.8.9..ect.
Good luck to the OP.

There is the Easy Root thread, works with .7 and takes 5 minutes.
I ruu'ed back to 2.1 and then accepted all the updates and used superoneclick it worked.
None of the one click stuff worked for me. Trying to get http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=694572 to take and everything worked accept the "Superuser Permission". I'll try from scratch in the morning. Point is, for me, the one click stuff didn't seem to work. At least the manual way is a step in the right direction. Remember to load the older 2.1 in the second thread.
Good option though FISHVENOM

root and Market are not related. You need to change your phone fingerprint to the Nexus 1 to show all the protected applications again as Google does not recognize the DK28 fingerprint.
However, you need to be rooted to edit the file. See the following thread for the fingerprint. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=848778

One way to check is to open up a terminal and type "su"
To get root back, use the one click installer.

Or flash a Tom to get all the apps. If you want to find out if your rooted just download titanium from the market. As soon as you open it it will say asking for root rights.

To tell if you're rooted - install an app like Titanium Backup, which needs root to function properly. If you're not rooted, there won't be access to the market.
For root if you've lost it, your best option may be to install a custom ROM, which are usually pre-rooted. Besides, most custom ROMS are better than what comes stock. Which custom ROM will depend on your needs.
I was curious about how the root exploit that unlocks our phones for all this great dev stuff works. Found this explanation, and it was quite good. For those with sufficient unix/linux knowlege, this will be totally understandable, so I'd recommend following the link, and reading the in-depth explanation, complete with C code. For those with less background in this stuff, it's still worth a read, but you'll have to work harder to understand exactly what's going on.
Post any questions in this thread, and I'll be happy to answer them!
This is a good explanation, I read something similar when rage was released, may hve even been this. But I'm pretty versed with linux and am overly versed in C...to the point where I have nightmares....

I really need this root because my phone did not come with Android market and I want to install it through ADB, and I think that requires a root correct? Even if I can't root my phone, is there any way to install an apk to my phone's internal storage and not my SD card?

no you dont need to root to install thru adb. just open up command/terminal,
adb install /blah/blah/phoneapphere.apk
alternatively you can put it on your sd card and use a file manager to locate the apk and install it on the phone.. for a nice easy root, use gingerbreak its the latest un patched exploit.. theres an apk version on xda it will root your phone no issues

specs don't really dictate which exploit will work on a device though.
If the bootloader is locked on the HTC, there's going to be a different workaround to root it.

No need to be a ****... GB isn't even available OTA to users, so theres a very small chance that there's a root method for something that hasn't come out yet...
btw ADB on Mac is pretty easy to set up. but as far as rooting 2.2 goes, you didn't need ADB to do it, which saves you the hassle of setting up the SDK and using Terminal if you're not feeling confident with it. I'm sure once they figure out rooting 2.3, the same will probably be true soon enough.

Some people are getting refurb/repair units back with 2.3, because 2.3 is close to coming in OTA format for the G2 from most reports.
I'm aware that most people don't have gb yet, that's why I figured I would ask for help as opposed to just searching the forums, I had my 2.2 g2 rooted no prob and once i found a decent tutorial then yeah I did realize that adb is supposed to be easy on mac. Hi !
The new T-Mobile 2.3.3 stock gingerbread rom is not rootable at the moment.
We currently do not have a temp-root method for it. The old methods (rage, psneuter and also gingerbreak) do not work as the exploits they where using have been patched.
At the moment you have to wait for someone to disclose a new gingerbread exploit.
Have fun - Guhl

I don't think 2.2.1 was even rooted so I doubt 2.3.3 would be. Cant you downgrade?
why dont you sell your phone on ebay.. and buy a g2 or desire z with 2.2 or thats already rooted?? you wont have to wait then
