This is not mine. Credit for finding this fix goes to TonyArmstrong who posted this over in the EVO 4G General Forums found here How-To Reinstall Your Sprint Visual VM under CM7!!!
12/01/2011 **Updated. You can now move voicemails to your SD Card
download "update.Sprint_vvm.zip", and follow the steps below
This is for those that dont want to use Google Voice or YouMail
Finally!!! A solution that worked!!!
I DO NOT CLAIM CREDIT. I'M PROVIDING THIS FOR THE GOOD OF THE FORUM (Original post found here)
Download attached below
Extract the update.Sprint_vvm.zip to the root of the SD card.
Download & install Titanium Backup from the Market.
Launch Titanium Backup and make sure Sprint VVM is removed (if not, use Titanium Backup to remove it).
Install the Sprint VVM (/sdcard/com.coremobility.app.vnotes-2.apk).
Launch Titanium Backup, select Voicemail T.5.2.0.24, select Restore and select Data Only.
NOTE: There is App+Data but it doesn't work.
Launch the Sprint VVM and "Compose" a message to yourself. It will test send and receive functions of Sprint VVM.
Enjoy and report back to the XDA thread with your results.
NOTE: If the above steps do not work, try manually placing the contents of the folder (titaniumbackup) into the preexisting titanium backup folder, i.e. install the APK as instructed, but also extracting the three files within the contained folder into your titanium backup folder.
I can verify and confirm that Sprint VVM (SVVM) works under CM7 Nightly 12 with the stock kernel, using the above method.
NB: On receipt of new voicemail, a text from "9016" will be sent to your phone. I'm using the basic CM7 MMS app and haven't figured out how to stop these notification texts, but that's a minor annoyance to have SVVM back!

Will this stop that annoying text everytime a voice mail is left?

If you don't want to use a thirdparty app to block that annoying text everytime you get a vm then just push the Mms.apk from kush-deck rom into cm7 and you will not receive that annoying text.

the text suck
i used sprint chat twice yesterday (took 2 chats) and said i don't want this text crap every time i get a fricking voicemail!
they said ok. but they can't stop em till the next billing cycle starts on 11/3.
You: cant stand this voicemail
You: i want regular and no 30 day trial text crap
Andy E.: Ok.
Andy E.: Thank you for the details.
Andy E.: Let me check that for you.
You: tell them i want voice voicemail nothing else
You: period
Agent: Yes, be assured after that it will never be transcribed to text after Nov 03, 2011.
Agent: That is the bill close date.
have you tried blocking 9016 from the sprint website? I'm trying it now and will return with the results tonight

This is what I do as well to stop the 9016 text since handcent doesn't do it. I think an app called redlist can block the notification and hide the message but the message is still getting through and will take up a slot in the message app, at least it did in handcent.
For anyone who doesn't know how just download the shift-deck rom and use your phones file browser to browse though the zip file for the mms.apk or if you download it to your computer just browse through the zip and look for the mms.apk. Take it out of the zip (extract it) and put that onto your phone's sd card and install it like any other non-market app you would install.

If/when that doesn't work here are the steps that will work...
Put the shift deck messaging.apk onto your sdcard.
Using root explorer delete stock messaging app and move shift deck messaging app from sd to system/app.
After file is moved, long press messaging.apk and set permissions to r,w/r/r.
After permissions are succesfully changed reboot... and all should be well...

Can anyone help me? I have Fission Vanilla 1.2 and am loving up but one thing it didn't include was Verizon's Visual Voicemail app.
I've tried downloading the apk from http://www.chadhaney.com/droidXDefault/ but when I click on the apk after downloading it it says "Application not installed" so I tried the moving it to the system/app folder like it said to do in this thread
http://androidforums.com/all-things-...r-droid-x.html
but after rebooting the phone it doesn't show up.
Anyone have any better ideas?
Thanks
Another interesting find.
I found another file called VVMStub.apk and that installed but as soon as I run it a pop up says "You phone comes with built in visual voice mail features. For the best experience, please uninstall this version of the application." and my only option is to uninstall it.
So obviously this phone thinks it has VVM on it but I can't get to it.
not to be a smart*** at all but why not get a free Google Voice account and set it up to handle your voicemail. you dont have to give out the number and it will be your voicemail for your DROID. you can then visual voicemail on your phone or computer, download the voicemails as a MP3 if you want, never worry about how may you have or time they are kept, and the best part is its free (and it works on Fission 1.2)
just a thought.
iDroidNow I hadn't looked at Voice since it was first sent to me years ago as a beta test. I didn't realize you could just do it for a cell instead of getting the whole number thing going. Just set it up so thanks for the suggestion. Will also save me a few bucks a month on VZW's limited capability VVM. So thanks for the suggestion!
Still weired I couldn't get VVM to install though

Ok so I'm on bonsai 1.1.3 with the new cwm and emotionless beast theme. This just started a couple days ago. When I get a new voicemail I then all of a sudden get a new text message. The text message is from 9016 and it says android ###-###-#### (the phone number that sent me the voicemail) has sent you a sprint voice message. Call 408-970-0000. Mmsn,106bee099,9fc6,v69bdosvezi//cm. This is just one example of one I got. Like I said it just started a couple days ago. Anyone ever had this and know what it is? It's really annoying when this happens. Thanks for your help!
Do you have the no bubble messaging app? Or the stock messaging app?
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
I have this too after I replaced the bubble MMS app with the white one with square pictures on the left (similar to a facebook chat looking thing). Looks like the evo sms app from what i've seen.
Is that whats causing it? All I did was push the Mms.apk from viperrom to bonsai 1.13
all you have to do is blacklist the number the text message comes from. Not sure if the stock app will do it, but handcent will.
I never changed my SMS or anything. I just updated the bonsai rom. As soon as I get my voicemail notification I get those new text messages.
This is happening to me as well.
this is going to be funny...
but can someone attach the MMS.apk that is causing..i kinda actually want this to happen after i get a voicemail..

I just have my VM setup to forward to my Google Voice number. That way I never get VM in my Sprint inbox - no fuss with visual VM either. You can use either the Google Voice app or have Google Voice send you a text.
Anybody know why its happening. Is it something in the bonsai rom cause.i havent messed with my sms and voicemail?

that is the visual voicemail to text thing it happens on all phones with vvm to text, call tech support tell them to block the number from texting and problem solved, i have to do this a few times a day d]since i do their tech support lol
Its from the messaging app with the rom. Its using the no bubble mod with the 5mb mod. I figured out that was causing it and just found a stock messaging.apk in the theme forums. Once you switch it out, call your self a couple times and you will notice the text after voicemail goes away.

I'm not positive, but I think if you are getting VM notification texts saying "call 408-970-0000(or any number)to listen to your VM messages, its because your voice mail isn't provisioned properly. The network doesn't realize your phone has visual voice mail, so its sending you a text to let you know to call to hear them. This happened to me a few times on my HTC hero when flashing cyanogen mod, and also a few times on my epic when i had a bad flash, or i had a poor signal on my first boot.
You should be receiving a message with a sort of code in it, something like {android}/noreply/notificationon(i don't remember the exact syntacs or message, but it will look something like that) it was caused by your MMS.apk.
When i had the provisioning issue, this is what i did to resolve it:
1. Dialed *38(resets VM to carrier in case it as setup to go to google voice, or other third party VM).
2. Open the VVM app
3. Hit menu
4. press Compose
5. in the "to" field put "[email protected]"
6. press record
7. as soon as the "send" button ungrays and ill allow you to, press it.
If this doesn't work you can try making a nandroid backup and odining to a stock rom, then re-rooting and restoring your nandroid.
Best of luck

I'm pretty sure this is google voicemail interfering with your regular voice mail. You need to go into gvoice and deactivate the number from going to google, and it will stop.
I'm using viper rom and get the same text message so it is not rom specific. I have tried the messaging.apk change and still get the messages. Does not appear anything is working so far to stop the texts

Seems to have worked flawlessly. I deleted a new voicemail and it says it was saved to my deleted folder. How do I access this? I didn't see an option from within VVM but that was before I actually deleted it. Will there be a new option there now or do I have to use a file browser to locate it?
Hit the upper voice mail tab while in the app and there you can delete or review the voice mail on the SD card.

Thanks! I'll check that out next time I get a VM.
I'm using YouMail currently with CM 7.1 stable and I'm frankly sick of YouMail. I've always enjoyed Sprint's VVM. Now that I see that you can save VM's to your SD makes it that much more to be desired.
I tried to load Sprint's VVM APK when I first flashed CM 7.1 but got those rogue 9016 MMS messages and it made me nuts. Hence the move to YouMail.
Let me see if I have this correct: flash back to Sense UI, use TB to back-up Sprint VVM + data. Flash back to CM and download the new APK. Open/run APK and then use TB to restore data?
Also, if this is done correctly, will those phantom 9016 messages no longer appear?

I decided to start this thread to try and help people like me who want sprint's visual voice mail working with Cyanogen 9 on their Epic 4G. Seeing how this is an issue ignored by developers, and shunned upon google voice fans.
Please do not say use google voice as this is no the discussion for this thread.
Here's what I have gotten with my attempts, anyone else feel free to contribute and maybe we can come up with a solution.
I tried using a backup restored from EL30 into CM9 through Titanium Backup, no message updates, and crashing every time I try to send a message to [email protected].
I grabbed the Sprint VVM apk from the latest Epic 4G Touch leak that is ICS in hopes of having more luck, but here were the results:
Loads up OK,
Goes through account verification on every app startup
No new Voice Mails showing (tested by me calling my phone from land line)
Still getting 9016 text message.
I can record and compile the activation message OK, but as of 30 minutes, it's still sitting in outbox after multiple attempts to resend. No luck.
Does anyone know if there's dependencies the VVM apk relies on for sprint to phone communications?
What luck has others taken and what are your results?
If I can get this issue, and possibly find a way to get the PRL updates back, then ICS will be golden and good for everyday use for me (Main thing is the VVM)

Successes
So when you two installed it, it worked flawlessly (minus the text issue) out of the gate?
As I sit now, I still have not received my voice mail and I'm now wondering what is different between my install and yours.
I currently get an account verification error with Visual Voice Mail version T5.2.1.0 taken from a copy of epic 4G Touch FC07.
I installed this copy by transferring the APK to my SDCard, then using ES File Explorer to install.
I just tried resetting the data through the applications management through settings, it loaded up the default two messages (about and welcome). Then gives me the account verification error prompt, then the customize mailbox prompt, but no message downloading. What ideas do you two have that could help.
did you try uninstalling and reinstalling?
Uhhh, I might be missing something but to quote the CM9 team from their Facebook page. "Sprint Visual Voicemail now works on CM9, meaning we now have three options for visual voicemail on Epic! Read the Customization Guide for CWM5 flashable .zip and setup instructions if you want to use it. Be aware that there are currently glitches.

Based on your suggestion, I just did, still no effect though.
When you go to Personalize voicemail in voicemail settings, does it do anything for you? For me it doesn't do anything.
As much as I like VVM it gives me trouble on CM7 and 9. An outgoing VM gets stuck and its the activation VM to get the services started. As a solution I just downloaded youmail from the market and it does the job. Its got a few advertisements but at least I dont miss important messages. Hope this helps!
Solved
OK, after seeing the posting about the facebook link, I did check it out and tried it. That did seem to solved the solution at least temporarily. There is some rendering issues, really minor, but after sending me a voice message, I did receive the rest of my voice mails (and the texts with them).
To answer one of my original questions, there does appear to be a dependency somewhere that's been missing. I opened the zip file to find a second file in it called 80-sprint-vvm.sh which I assume is a form of work around script.
Me not having any programming language knowledge couldn't say the details of the sh file, but I'm sure more knowledgeable people can decipher it.
I will see if I can come up with a full solution that can be more permanent, but for now this upgrades Cyanogen 9 to daily driver status. Another note, I noticed my topic quickly jumped to the top of google's search results for Cyanogen 9 Visual Voice Mail, so maybe there was some good out of this.

it may developing an issue but its not an actual development project if you can understand what he & I are meaning by it. this is more of a general topic.
I asked in the LeeDroid thread, then realized its probably better asked here instead.
Anyone have a working APK for the Verizon Visual Voicemail app for the HTC10? Once I flash a custom ROM such as LeeDroid (and, I assume any other custom ROM?) there's no longer any app for VVM.
In fact, as far as I can tell, there is no voicemail app at all; so anytime someone leaves me a VM, I'm not getting notified about it. The only way for me to check VM's is manually press 1 each time on the dialer.
Anyone else on VZW having this issue?

Sure Did read it.
It says only *86 will be available.
That is my point: you won't any longer get playable messages stored in your M9 as before. You will have to dial *86.

What's going away is the $2.99 option.
Look under "Basic Visual Voice Mail (Included)"
App and *86
Again, read the link you posted. The first line:
On 7/8/2016, the $2.99 Visual Voice Mail service will be discontinued. Some older smartphones and basic phones that support it won't be able to use the service.
This is only impacting some older smartphones and basic phones.
The HTC 10 is newer and a smartphone, and is therefore unaffected because it qualifies for the free basic VVM.
I have the voicemail app n my viper rom here but it takes the 2.99 premium upgrade.
Is the new message+ app what your looking for? I think that had the VVM also. I had it saved somewhere but for the life of me I cant find it now. ill pull it later cause I'm going to back to stock to test something out.

The Voicemail app and Message+ are two different things.
The Voicemail app defaults you to a free trial of the $2.99 premium VVM, but you can downgrade straight away to the free VVM service from the menu.
The Message+ app can be downloaded from the Play Store (search for Verizon Messages).

Thanks all for the replies. Ultimately I'm just going back to Google voice for my VM's.

I figured that out after I searched the play store. I have never seen this basic VVM cause I never used the stuff, I have the app installed but never use , I also thought when I did start up the message app it did have a tab for the voicemail but again it was not there.
My voice-mail goes through my HTC messages app. It is a tab/slide over in the app

Is it set up like the m9 where the messages app has 3 tabs sms, mms, and voicemail because when I tap voicemail it takes me to my text messages with no voicemails after I installed those apks. That's is the messages apk from the Verizon version right? I think there is something else probably missing to make it work properly.

correct, i have no idea what else you need to get going though.
It has to be some type of file that joins the two together.

Yeah, I just had the stock system with the messages app. I was thinking the apk for the messages app would work. Now I'm in leedroid and I don't have it either.

I am experiencing the same thing, after just switching to LeeDroid.
I tried downloading and installing the .APK file referenced in this thread. That seems to work somewhat, but when I launch the app I just get a message that says "Connecting to Visual Voicemail...", and then nothing happens. I wind up having to back out of the app.
Any ideas? Thanks!
Then there was this ... Running LeeDroid
