Problem installing Visual Voicemail on [ROM]Fission Vanilla 1.2 - Droid X General

Can anyone help me? I have Fission Vanilla 1.2 and am loving up but one thing it didn't include was Verizon's Visual Voicemail app.
I've tried downloading the apk from http://www.chadhaney.com/droidXDefault/ but when I click on the apk after downloading it it says "Application not installed" so I tried the moving it to the system/app folder like it said to do in this thread
http://androidforums.com/all-things-...r-droid-x.html
but after rebooting the phone it doesn't show up.
Anyone have any better ideas?
Thanks

Another interesting find.
I found another file called VVMStub.apk and that installed but as soon as I run it a pop up says "You phone comes with built in visual voice mail features. For the best experience, please uninstall this version of the application." and my only option is to uninstall it.
So obviously this phone thinks it has VVM on it but I can't get to it.

not to be a smart*** at all but why not get a free Google Voice account and set it up to handle your voicemail. you dont have to give out the number and it will be your voicemail for your DROID. you can then visual voicemail on your phone or computer, download the voicemails as a MP3 if you want, never worry about how may you have or time they are kept, and the best part is its free (and it works on Fission 1.2)
just a thought.

iDroidNow I hadn't looked at Voice since it was first sent to me years ago as a beta test. I didn't realize you could just do it for a cell instead of getting the whole number thing going. Just set it up so thanks for the suggestion. Will also save me a few bucks a month on VZW's limited capability VVM. So thanks for the suggestion!
Still weired I couldn't get VVM to install though

I tried this and it does get rid of that pop-up saying you already have VVM.

Please post all compatibility issues in the thread of the ROM that you installed in this case Fission 1.2 thread. With that said I am closing the thread.

[BUG] Ghost Message Waiting Indicator in AOSP 2.1 / 2.0.1

This is the only thing that has stopped me from making the switch to one of Darchstar's new ROMs. I was very hesitant to make a thread about this but I've received PMs from other people experiencing the same issue. Here's hoping we can get this figured out.
Whenever I install a 2.1 or 2.0.1 ROM I get a notification telling me that I have a voicemail waiting. I click the notification and it automatically dials *86.
"Thanks for calling Helio by Virgin Mobile. Please enter your mobile number beginning with your area code." That's definitely not right.
I call my Sprint Voicemail box and I have no messages. I call myself and leave a message and then delete it. Nothing.
I go into "Call Settings" and change my voicemail number and the notification remains.
I registered with Google Voice. The notification stayed. I left a Google Voice voicemail and deleted it... no change.
I RUU'd, re-rooted and flashed darchstar's ROM. Mockingly, the notification appeared immediately.
I installed Flip's 2.1 Sense ROM and the Indicator showed up immediately, but I was able to clear it in the Settings menu. (Settings > Call Settings > Clear Voicemail Notification) -- This option isn't available in the AOSP ROMs. I've tried to push the settings APK from Flip's ROM, but of course the settings program does nothing but forceclose on AOSP.
I'd just switch to Flip's ROM and manually remove Sense, but AFAIK there is no fix for the Market in that ROM as of yet.
I've also called Sprint regarding the issue. I hoped that a simple reset of my voicemail box would resolve the issue. No dice. I did, however, confuse the heck out of a Tech Support representative at least.
I am not nearly as experienced with Android Development as I'd like to be, but I am trying to learn. I've poked through the SDK documentation and it seems like I might be able to completely disable that notification if I knew what I was doing a little better. This would be fine being that I've fully switched my voicemail box to Google Voice.
I have managed to get the notification to go away for a period of time. If I wipe, flash, wipe, flash enough I'll boot and the notification won't be there. Each and every single time it comes back eventually. I got it to go away for approx 7 hours about a week ago. I was so pissed when it came back...
The closest thing to a solution that I've came across is going into framework-res and removing the PNG for the voicemail notification. At least, I don't have to stare at that icon all day long that way.
Does anyone have any ideas that I haven't covered above?
You know Im right there with you. I have tried just about everything you outlined and I still couldnt get it to go away more than a few hours. Fresh 2.1 did slightly help the situation by being able to clear it but as soon as I restarted, there it was again.
Just out of curiosity Illogic, have you tried a new Micro SD card?

I have been waiting on a 8gb class 6 for 2 and a half weeks. I was gonna test when it came in. I have partitioned many times but I wonder if it is possible something is just stuck on it and its causing this issue. I dont know, maybe im just on my last ideas about it.
I have a feeling that it has something to do with the fact that we are missing visual voicemail on these unofficial builds.
When we receive a Sprint Voicemail on a ROM without VVM we get a SMS message that would normally be filtered out by the VVM app. When you clear your voicemail box you get a SMS that looks like it's meant to turn the message waiting indicator off, but the phone doesn't recognize it.
Been pulling my hair out over this for too long.

He mentioned that he had in the first post. It was also stated that there is no way to remove the icon. If he is like me, the icon is annoying.
No, he mentioned he tried giving himself a voicemail in his Google Voice number. I mean switching from Sprint Voicemail over to Google Voicemail. That's what I did and I solved this problem.

I have forwarded my phone to Google Voice's voicemail service and the icon remained. Did you forward it to Google and resolve the issue? That's what I meant when I said that I "registered" with Google Voice. Sorry... that wasn't real clear.

Illogic, I did it on Freshs 2.1 and it worked because Freshes has the clear voice mail option in settings. Not to mention, for some reason Freshs also integrated GV into the voice mail settings. It was actually pretty cool.
What I did was change the Voicemail setting in AOSP 2.1 to Google Voicemail. I just left it at that (didn't change it back to Sprint) because I like GV better. But I don't get the ghost notification with my voicemail handled by GV.

Yeah, I noticed your posts in the ROM thread regarding that. Just if we could, somehow, get that ported to the AOSP ROMs we'd be golden.

How does Sprint sync your real voicemail box with Visual Voicemail?

Happily running CM7 with one issue:
If I dial my own number (or longpress "1" in the dialer) to access my real voicemail box, I have many "new" messages.
But I have been receiving, listening to, and deleting these same messages using the Sprint Visual Voicemail program installed as per the usual method (see http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=12219741&postcount=2 under "visual voicemail" for the one-sentence version).
Why are the two voicemail "boxes" not in sync?
I'm pretty convinced this is a bug-not-a-feature because it gives two different versions of the "truth" to anyone who uses both methods to check VM (because, say, your bluetooth headset doesn't allow you to hear locally-stored VVM audio files.. but that's another topic..). I'm not even sure what happens when this goes on for a month or two- do callers hear some kind of "mailbox full" announcement? Do the oldest messages just go away once they reach a certain age?
I have returned to a sense-based ROM and tried to "update my profile" and PRL, I have sent a VVM to [email protected], and I have gotten the little "toast" that says I have been provisioned successfully. But no sync. I have rebooted. I have waited overnight. I have turned off wi-fi to force 3G communication with Sprint. I have scoured the internet for these and other recommendations. Still no sync. The only thing I haven't done is called Sprint and asked them to get involved (which of course is a bit of a last resort considering we are talking about a rooted phone here).
So I'm asking for help from a) anyone who has experienced this and solved it and/or b) anyone who can shed some light on how Sprint VVM synchronization works.
Thanks in advance...
PS- I already know I can always "solve" my Sprint VVM issues by switching to Google Voice: I'm sure GV is great, but my question is not about GV. I'm just looking for basic information on the signalling method Sprint uses to synchronize your VVM with the cloud. Thanks!
I've been wondering and experiencing the same exact stuff that you mentioned, any input is appreciated here too!

After reading your post I pressed 1 to go into my voicemail and it said I had 12 messages. Never noticed this issue before (I never actually call for my messages, I just use the app), very strange. Unfortunately I don't know the answer.
Thanks ausch- I should have cited your FAQ as another excellent one-sentence summary of the basic method for getting Sprint VVM to run on CM7. And then of course there's this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=982966 which spells it out a little more explicitly and, after getting a bunch of blog mentions at some point, had quite a bit of traffic for awhile. I originally reported this issue there but got no response after a few days so I just started up a new thread to get some more visibility.
I think you need another apk installed for that part to work.
This one. I think it is what updates your visual voicemail and deletes messages, not positive though.

Lol, yeah when I was typing all that **** up I got lazy and just wrote it up real quick. Probably should have gone a little more in depth.
I installed it too (thank you for the suggestion aimbdd) but it force closes a lot and generally does not seem to fix my issue.
I'm getting plenty of notifications (my VVM "widget" shows the right number of unheard messages and the stock android VM notification up in the status bar shows the right number as well), the version is 5.1.0.34, and everything seems to function pretty well with this one exception.
I see references to Sprint_App_Updater.apk in lots of places (here's an example: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=7246771&postcount=35 ) but it's not clear to me if the app is actually essential to the VM sync issue I'm talking about.
And one last thing, just a random quote (from http://www.evo4gforum.net/htc-evo-4g-how-to/visual-voicemail-9708/ ) from a person who had the exact *opposite* issue: he prefers using phone-call-based voicemail and wanted his visual voicemails to go away: "I did talk with Sprint and ... I asked them why are the messages that I delete on Sprint VM (#1) still going to VVM and not being deleted. No real answer except for that's the way the VVM app works. He assured me that if I delete a VVM that it will also delete it on Sprint's (#1), but for whatever reason it doesn't work the opposite way. "
This last sentence tells me there is supposed to be at least one-way sync.
I accept that the VVM app holds previously-downloaded audio files and it may not be desired (or even feasible) for Sprint to reach into your phone and delete a static audio file just just because you called into your voicemail and manually erased the original voicemail that spawned it. So maybe we will never have two-way sync.
But that quote above clearly promises that when things are functioning normally the mailboxes *do* sync in the direction I care about: if you delete a message from your phone, a signal goes back to the cloud so that the original is deleted there also.

I just got a voicemail and it was still in Sprint's system after deleting it from the app so I don't think this fixes the problem. Thanks for the suggestion though.
Today's PRL update did not change the behavior.
I might start casting about for answers outside the EVO 4G forum. Seems like it would be a generic Sprint issue that would apply to more than just EVO users..
Well just to close this out, I did find a solution after posting in various other threads until someone came up with the simple suggestion of uninstalling and reinstalling.
So the issue that prompted my question is resolved and my voicemail boxes *do* sync.
But I still never did find out *how* they sync.
Seems strange the underlying sync mechanism isn't more widely understood. Guess I'll let it drop for now. Thanks to everyone who chimed in.

Sprint Visual Voicemail AOSP

Okay so i spent 4 days uninstalling and reinstalling the sprint VVM app and following the directions from this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=982966&page=14
I must have attempted it over 200 times when suddenly.. IT JUST WORKED, i did a little dance, jumped around, did a backflip, the usual celebration stuff
Anyway, 24 hours later my MIUI somehow got stuck in a bootloop so i had to do a restore and i lost it, needless to say i've tried another 200 times to get my sprint visual voicemail working and it just keeps saying
"Data Restore Failed" On TitaniumBackup
Is there any flashable ZIP that i can just flash and get my VVM working? this is driving me insane, i have no idea what i did different the one time it worked but i just cannot get it to work again.. pleaaaaaase help
your not doing it right then, it has worked countless times for myself and friends. Somewhere along the lines you are skipping something or not following the directions fully
Trust me i am doing everything right
1.) Uninstall the voicemail
2.) Install the Voicemail APK
3.) Copy/paste the files from zip into the Titanium Backup Folder
4.) Restore DATA only from voicemail in titanium backup
and it should work.. but i get Data Restore Failed every single time
I swear i had seen a flashable zip fix for this somewhere, has anyone done this succesfully and have a zip?
Finally just got it working, i had to uninstall/reinstall Titanium Backup and then it worked, only took me like 60 more tries lol.. I am DEFINTEILY gonna make a nandroid back up RIGHT AWAY, but would still be interested in this ZIP for future referenes
Okay well i got the Application to install correctly, but i'm still not getting the voicemails to it... I was using google voice and i just tried to test my new sprint VVM and the voicemail still went to google's voice, so i uninstalled it and i keep trying to compose a message to myself and nothing is coming back...do i need to do something to turn off google voicemail ?

I have this same problem with google voice just earlier this morning.
First you have to login google voice account via the net and deactivate google voice. It will prompt you to dial *38 to deactivate, this should now revert you back to sprint visual voicemail. Hope this help.

Cyanogen 9 and Sprint Visual Voice mail cooperation

I decided to start this thread to try and help people like me who want sprint's visual voice mail working with Cyanogen 9 on their Epic 4G. Seeing how this is an issue ignored by developers, and shunned upon google voice fans.
Please do not say use google voice as this is no the discussion for this thread.
Here's what I have gotten with my attempts, anyone else feel free to contribute and maybe we can come up with a solution.
I tried using a backup restored from EL30 into CM9 through Titanium Backup, no message updates, and crashing every time I try to send a message to [email protected].
I grabbed the Sprint VVM apk from the latest Epic 4G Touch leak that is ICS in hopes of having more luck, but here were the results:
Loads up OK,
Goes through account verification on every app startup
No new Voice Mails showing (tested by me calling my phone from land line)
Still getting 9016 text message.
I can record and compile the activation message OK, but as of 30 minutes, it's still sitting in outbox after multiple attempts to resend. No luck.
Does anyone know if there's dependencies the VVM apk relies on for sprint to phone communications?
What luck has others taken and what are your results?
If I can get this issue, and possibly find a way to get the PRL updates back, then ICS will be golden and good for everyday use for me (Main thing is the VVM)

So when you two installed it, it worked flawlessly (minus the text issue) out of the gate?
As I sit now, I still have not received my voice mail and I'm now wondering what is different between my install and yours.
I currently get an account verification error with Visual Voice Mail version T5.2.1.0 taken from a copy of epic 4G Touch FC07.
I installed this copy by transferring the APK to my SDCard, then using ES File Explorer to install.
I just tried resetting the data through the applications management through settings, it loaded up the default two messages (about and welcome). Then gives me the account verification error prompt, then the customize mailbox prompt, but no message downloading. What ideas do you two have that could help.
did you try uninstalling and reinstalling?
Uhhh, I might be missing something but to quote the CM9 team from their Facebook page. "Sprint Visual Voicemail now works on CM9, meaning we now have three options for visual voicemail on Epic! Read the Customization Guide for CWM5 flashable .zip and setup instructions if you want to use it. Be aware that there are currently glitches.

Based on your suggestion, I just did, still no effect though.
When you go to Personalize voicemail in voicemail settings, does it do anything for you? For me it doesn't do anything.
As much as I like VVM it gives me trouble on CM7 and 9. An outgoing VM gets stuck and its the activation VM to get the services started. As a solution I just downloaded youmail from the market and it does the job. Its got a few advertisements but at least I dont miss important messages. Hope this helps!
Solved
OK, after seeing the posting about the facebook link, I did check it out and tried it. That did seem to solved the solution at least temporarily. There is some rendering issues, really minor, but after sending me a voice message, I did receive the rest of my voice mails (and the texts with them).
To answer one of my original questions, there does appear to be a dependency somewhere that's been missing. I opened the zip file to find a second file in it called 80-sprint-vvm.sh which I assume is a form of work around script.
Me not having any programming language knowledge couldn't say the details of the sh file, but I'm sure more knowledgeable people can decipher it.
I will see if I can come up with a full solution that can be more permanent, but for now this upgrades Cyanogen 9 to daily driver status. Another note, I noticed my topic quickly jumped to the top of google's search results for Cyanogen 9 Visual Voice Mail, so maybe there was some good out of this.

Verizon Visual Voicemail?

I asked in the LeeDroid thread, then realized its probably better asked here instead.
Anyone have a working APK for the Verizon Visual Voicemail app for the HTC10? Once I flash a custom ROM such as LeeDroid (and, I assume any other custom ROM?) there's no longer any app for VVM.
In fact, as far as I can tell, there is no voicemail app at all; so anytime someone leaves me a VM, I'm not getting notified about it. The only way for me to check VM's is manually press 1 each time on the dialer.
Anyone else on VZW having this issue?

Sure Did read it.
It says only *86 will be available.
That is my point: you won't any longer get playable messages stored in your M9 as before. You will have to dial *86.

No?

What's going away is the $2.99 option.
Look under "Basic Visual Voice Mail (Included)"
App and *86
Again, read the link you posted. The first line:
On 7/8/2016, the $2.99 Visual Voice Mail service will be discontinued. Some older smartphones and basic phones that support it won't be able to use the service.
This is only impacting some older smartphones and basic phones.
The HTC 10 is newer and a smartphone, and is therefore unaffected because it qualifies for the free basic VVM.
I have the voicemail app n my viper rom here but it takes the 2.99 premium upgrade.
Is the new message+ app what your looking for? I think that had the VVM also. I had it saved somewhere but for the life of me I cant find it now. ill pull it later cause I'm going to back to stock to test something out.

The Voicemail app and Message+ are two different things.
The Voicemail app defaults you to a free trial of the $2.99 premium VVM, but you can downgrade straight away to the free VVM service from the menu.
The Message+ app can be downloaded from the Play Store (search for Verizon Messages).

Thanks all for the replies. Ultimately I'm just going back to Google voice for my VM's.

I figured that out after I searched the play store. I have never seen this basic VVM cause I never used the stuff, I have the app installed but never use , I also thought when I did start up the message app it did have a tab for the voicemail but again it was not there.
My voice-mail goes through my HTC messages app. It is a tab/slide over in the app

Is it set up like the m9 where the messages app has 3 tabs sms, mms, and voicemail because when I tap voicemail it takes me to my text messages with no voicemails after I installed those apks. That's is the messages apk from the Verizon version right? I think there is something else probably missing to make it work properly.

correct, i have no idea what else you need to get going though.
It has to be some type of file that joins the two together.

Yeah, I just had the stock system with the messages app. I was thinking the apk for the messages app would work. Now I'm in leedroid and I don't have it either.

I am experiencing the same thing, after just switching to LeeDroid.
I tried downloading and installing the .APK file referenced in this thread. That seems to work somewhat, but when I launch the app I just get a message that says "Connecting to Visual Voicemail...", and then nothing happens. I wind up having to back out of the app.
Any ideas? Thanks!
Then there was this ... Running LeeDroid
