I'm considering going back to froyo from EH17, and I was wondering what would be the best setup for battery life?
One I have in mind is SRF 1.2 w/ Genocide Kernel and EE03 modem?
It varies from phone to phone. I'm on SFR 1.2 with Genocide 1.0, EC05.

Yeah I know. But if enough people tell me one thing, then I can assume that it would work on mine as well.
Just curious, why haven't you flashed Genocide 2.0?
Well I'm on latest genocide with cm7 clone running eco5 modem hd to many issues with gingerbreads modems, and I get threw the whole day 7 through 12 with a lot of use and if I rarely use I can get two days

Damnn! I think I might stick w/ SRF though only because I like the theme more and I've used it before. (not 1.2, but an older version)
My phone just likes 1.0 more than anything else with the exception of the Vision kernel that borked everyone's phones. Mine included.
I switched back the other day. I like sfr, but figured I would try something new, and went with random rom 2.2 phoenix with genocide 1.0, but kept the eh17 modem. So far so good. Random seems to be set up very good for max battery life. Staying on genocide 1.0 for now, cause after reading through the thread a bit, someone had posted that the rom is pretty much optimized for that kernel. I am, however, looking forward to some sfr 1.3 if it ever drops.

Adam, David should be releasing a ROM soon that I think your phone will like. If he changes to many things, Ill just release EC05OCEv4.

Its fantabulous, or tightitious... Both those words are spoken on a regular by a friend of mine Its probably what SFR 1.3 will be, unless they made an app to go with it.
I am looking forward too all of the work...yours, David's, and 1.3.

For me the best battery life I have seen is on SRF 1.2 with the twilight kernel. I had nearly four hours of screen on time in like 28 hours.
Best I've ever seen length wise was like 38 hours but screen on time was less than two hours total.
SRF 1.2 is so buttery smooth it seemed like a new phone. Now if I could just get skypes front facing camera to work on Froyo.
Edit: Probably should add I am running JUWE's ram script. I find it easier to deal with and get similar results to V6. Running it at stock speeds so it is undervolted. I have also frozen DRM, SNS, and com.samsung.
I have had no issues now that I cleared all backups reflashed eh17 and eh17 modem and cleared everything before flashing
yes getting to battery, each one is a little different some last a little longer hard core use. to me depends on how many apps you have, where you start actually using phone the most and when not in use, i have settings app and shut down 3g till I need it.
And Everyones Phone is different.
Takes a Little Trying and Finding what Fits You!!!
Thanks everyone. I'm on Urban Regeneration right now and after giving it a daily spin, it seems to be pretty solid.

hi, i was wondering if anyone is still running DI18 ROMs and custom kernals? is there any advantage to this, since DI18 is 'official' code, and all we have for Froyo is leaked code? or are we better off just running DK28 ROMs? thx
I went back to Di18 from DK28. Surprisingly GPS works 100%, I don't know if they changed something or odin flashed the radio better then stock. The main reason I went back is because games play much better on Eclair. I've been playing a lot of Dungeon Defenders and it plays horribly on DK28, I'm pretty sure since it's a beta leak it's not 100% optimized for the gpu.
I've been running DI18 (ACS) and it's great... but I'm tired of being on 2.1 and actually this weekend I'm planning on checking out an EXT4 Midnight ROM with a Gingerbread theme... If that turns out to be good I'll probably be on that until ACS rolls out a 2.2 ROM
cool, thanks for the replies. anyone have any favorite DI18 ROM/custom kernal combinations?
i've been running Viper's ext4 ROM and i love it.... but i'm curious about custom kernals and such.
The version of ACS that I'm running comes with the ACS Xtreme kernel. It's pretty fast (I'm actually not running the most updated one) and allows the 1.2ghz overclock step which you just flat out can't do with 2.2 until source is released
When I was running 2.1 I had the best experience with Syndicate or Epic Experience. Great speed and awesome battery life. I just moved back to 2.2 on the Truly Epic with EXT4 and its probably the best I've run so far

thanks guys, just curious about maybe playing around with undervolting/overclocking. i might try syndicate or epic experience.

I never gave EE a chance, for no particular reason, I just never had the time.
I heard that EE + Phoenix Kernel was a great combination for battery life but for speed I've heard ACS + Xtreme was the way to go. It definitely is fast and I get slightly better than stock battery life idle, but under really heavy use worse than stock (at 1.2ghz I can't really say I'm surprised)
Who still runs on di18??? Lol just joking. At least there are custom kernels for eclair. I just want my flash and my GPS works so.much better on froyo than eclair.

Big + for flash! That's like 90% of the reason I'm on 2.2 now. Such a shame I could watch live bball & fball on my old WM6 HTC Touch but couldn't on my Epic. I just couldn't deal with that reality any longer lol

I used Phoenix & Viper Eclair rom (Forgot which one)
I'm on stock DI18 rom with Phoenix kernel, only because it is the only rom I'm able to use MobileAP app. But I deleted all LWP, and all of the bloatware. Battery life is good, calibrated and all. I am using JD, setcpu at min/200-max800. Gps works, as well as my games run way better. Staying here til we get our own source code for froyo....not holding my breath lolz!

I updated my Epic on the day EB13 was released. I used the update.zip using the stock recovery on my stock/rooted DI18 (no data/cache wipes before updating) which kept all my data and apps intact. After the update, the only problems I had were the one related to the camera (video lag in low light and still camera FC in sport mode), but after the kernel fix was introduced (thanks to mkasick) I have had absolutely ZERO, ZILCH, NADA, NO problems. Granted I am still using basically the stock EB13 rooted only with Launcher Pro, but everything has worked as it should (GPS, SMS, MMS, video recording, camera, music player, SD card, etc.). The only issue for me is probably the checkerboarding on the stock browser which is not a big deal for me anyways.
How many of you have been happy with your EB13 upgrade experience?
I am waiting for a custom ROM.
Mine worked good on stock and even better using the genocide kernel.

I was using stock EB13 with no problems..today I flashed the genocide kernel since I figure it can't hurt to have more battery life...
As for checker-boarding on the browser..coming from a TP2..I hardly call that checkerboarding lol
as for the checkerboarding browser, does anyone know if that is only on the stock browser, or others such as Dolphin as well?
Running EB13 stock w/genocide, no complaints. I use the miren browser as my default.

I flashed eb13 with the samsung exe and immediately got root access and changed over to deodexed/ext4 and with the lastest genocide kernel .... close to perfect ... with the overclock and pretty heavy use battery life is darn good, amazingly. My battery app estimates 11.5 hrs @ 58%. I'm constantly picking the thing up and using it today. All apps run fine and now the browser is substantially faster than the wifes laptop! Was just on the gamestop site with a flash game review playing along side a bunch of animated adds and it still played great. 1375/3020 smartbench. This is all the "phone" I'll need for some time to come! Since the camera fix in genocide kernel, all regrets are gone. Plus, if you love video media like I do, you MUST have 2.2 as the video decoding and audio decoding are sgnificantly improved. 2.1 would stutter a bit with very high bit rate stuff. 2.2 makes the best quality video play FLAWLESSLY. Never a dropped frame. Even @2mbit/sec. Watching a movie on my phone is nearly as pleasing as my well calibrated big screen.

I'm happy. the battery is lasting for up to 24 hours now. I even slept through the night without charging it and woke up to a not dead phone. oh the possibilities
stock eb13 w root and cam patch, couldnt b more pleased w my phone
Not me. Its seems much better at first. But when you start getting random fc's here and there it tells you somethings wrong. In all honestly I think 2.1 eclair ran this phone with ease like a current machine would run winxp. No problems and everythings snappy. Works the way its suppose to. Throw win7 in and now youve complicated things by adding in bore instruction sets that might conflict. Not to say that it isn't gonna work well but we can clearly see sprint was full of **** when they said they were thoroughly testing for bugs. Build the is from the ground up with gingerbread. Until that happens were gonna keep getting updates that fix **** instead of updates that turn our epics for the better. Its what this hardware deserves. Next year when tegra 2's are mainstream phonemena hummingbird will be the mid level tier. Even with 2.2 I still think this hardware has more to give.
My 2 cents.

That's impossible in all honesty. With the way people were crying about the 2.2 update to build something from kernel up and redo it people would be crying "gingerbread is taking too long" screw Samsung, and Sprint...
i odin'd back to DI18 a day before EB13 and only restored contacts.
once EB13 dropped, i wiped everything 3 times w/ clockwork, upgraded via the update.zip method. Then did the 1 click root, and manually re-installed all my apps etc.
The one thing that really kills the 'new' froyo for me is the bluetooth problems still being present like on DK28. I got so damn irritated w/ DK28's bluetooth problems that i actually went back to 2.1
Now that i'm using EN13, I'm still pretty honked off but it hasn't irritated me enough yet to go back to eclair.. depends on how flaky the bluetooth becomes.
So far, I'm running stock EB13, 1 click root, genocide kernel installed yesterday) and gonna gauge battery life.
I'm really wanting to try out the MIUI and/or cyanogenmod once they're a little less buggy.. the devs are making great progress, but i need a fairly non-buggy phone for work so that's why i'm waiting (not complaining.. i experiment on the weekends w/ ROMs and such)

+1 for that
Yes on Taboonay...
...but just recently I reverted back to Rtrip's 3.4 kernel AFTER trying his 3.7 kernel and Thor's 3.9 kernel.
Both of the latter two were snappy, quick, and responsive but they were Exceedingly power hungry. Going back to the 3.4 kernel I'm only rarely, if at all even noticing ANY sort of performance hit.
What I AM noticing is that I can get about 1.5 days with very heavy use, sometimes 2 from a charge compared to barely being able to make one full day with the other kernels. There were also occasional FC's in the stock browser and Google maps would occasionally...just close. No FC, no lockup, no nothing...just...back to main screen.
So, yeah. That's my 2cents.
P.S. I always OC'd to 1.4 without setcpu - everything run from Tabootools - Setcpu had some issues with 3.4 kernel - no SU permissions so be wary.
Good luck!

I've been running Syndicate Rom v1.2 for abotu 6 months now and while waiting for v1.3 (2.0) or whatever version will be based on EI22, am curious what people are using now. I've read through all the threads and ACS ICS (now v3.5) looks like a good one to try.
Yes, I am not sure which EI22 to run yet, so I'm still on Froyo.
Thanks.

This thread would be great if new people would read it instead of posting new threads on "what's the best ROM". They could see which is the most popular and ask questions here. Nice. (but that won't happen lol).
waiting patiently for CM7
I was trying different ones last night and my god are they all fast including stock unrooted. Marcusant's ICS is what I've settled on right now. Legendary was good but too Vanilla Android for me. If you like that sort of thing, jump right on. I'll also be testing some others. Tomahawk may be good if you're very used to SRF. It looks very similar. Haven't gotten to load it yet. Haven't had any issues at all. Seems more customizeable or maybe practice with the leaks has yielded superior results. Seems like there's going to be more coming, too!
i have been using ICS v2. i love it so far, i did have one random reboot, but its fast, seems more consistent than my previous rom (bonsai ec05). I cant wait for the GPS to be fixed, i am loving this room so far (well im not too much of a fan of the glowing blue scroll bars).
Best ROM for ECO5 powered Epic is deadly package of srf 1.2 + Genocide 2.0 OC to 1.4Ghz
For Ei22 , I have virtually tested all available roms (all versions too) and found ERA Legendary beta 3.1 + AIP rom OCed to 1.2 to be most stable and swift.
Loving it... maybe ACS guys will come with next version of SRF 2.0.

The latest ACS-ICS V3.5 release seems to be working great! No issues found with gps- locking 8/8 satellites from indoors, and no issues sending mms, or uploading photos for facebook.
ACS and Marcusant have done a great job with this Gingerbread release.
Clean GB has been working fine for me with no glitches at all

um that starsky rom looks pretty ok to me....

CleanGB....battery life is great for me, and with the black theme, it is what it says....clean! Thinking about flashing the samurai kernel over it.
Though, I do have nandroids of cm7 and miui that I'm sure I will jump back to from time to time. Cm7 was my dd since the last release until last night. Besides video recording, everything else worked great for me, including mms, and being able to switch themes on the fly is awesome.

I'm using ACS ICS 3.5 and I'm quite impressed. It's definitely a speed demon...really snappy. The kernel seems to be very stable in overclock also. This new GB with the ACS ICS ROM is more than i was expecting, especially considering the newness of it. I don't miss my old FROYO/syndicate frozen ROM one bit. Gingerbread/ACS ICS and a little bit of Voltage control tweaking...well...it's like I have a brand new phone.

Im running bionix v 1.3.1 and I've made some changes to it using some tweeks used in toxic 8 and made this rom twice as snappy with awsome battery life like that of toxic 8 if interested just say the word
I used the script manager ,kick ass kernel tweaks, bali kernel,kb5 modem, and the build.prop from toxic crazy 8.....had to modify it a tiny bit....
Your probly wondering why I went thru all this trouble...
I love both rims but found a few bugs in craxy8 that I couldn't stand.....and after a little while other aspects of the rom started getting glitchy.....and since the creater of toxic crazy 8 has moved on.....I chose not to bother him with it.....
I found no issues with bionix other than battery life wasn't nearly as good as toxic crazy 8 and wasn't quite as fast and snappy.....so I took it apon myself to merge what I feel to be the 2 best 2.2 roms together..well sorta mixed them
I have used Bionix v1.3.1 with Bali kernel for a long time and it is the most stable rom I have used on the Vibrant. My brother uses Nextgen V2 with Immortality v2.2 and that is super snappy too. V2 seems to have a different launcher by default, and generally has more third party apps preinstalled (I delete them with Titanium Backup).
For some odd reason, that same combo does not work on my Vibrant and crashes a lot. I guess even between the same phone there are differences within that we do not know about (the color on screen also looks different...and it has nothing to do with Voodoo color). Good luck finding your favorite rom/kernel combo!
