What are you talking about? I can't vouch for villain, but I use taboonay 2.2 with the 3.7 villain kernel and everything work great. I have MUCH better performance than with any stock version and no problems at all.

+1 for that

Yes on Taboonay...
...but just recently I reverted back to Rtrip's 3.4 kernel AFTER trying his 3.7 kernel and Thor's 3.9 kernel.
Both of the latter two were snappy, quick, and responsive but they were Exceedingly power hungry. Going back to the 3.4 kernel I'm only rarely, if at all even noticing ANY sort of performance hit.
What I AM noticing is that I can get about 1.5 days with very heavy use, sometimes 2 from a charge compared to barely being able to make one full day with the other kernels. There were also occasional FC's in the stock browser and Google maps would occasionally...just close. No FC, no lockup, no nothing...just...back to main screen.
So, yeah. That's my 2cents.
P.S. I always OC'd to 1.4 without setcpu - everything run from Tabootools - Setcpu had some issues with 3.4 kernel - no SU permissions so be wary.
Good luck!

I too have just aquired one of these tablets and am interested to see what people think of the ROMs available before flashing.

Taboonay 2.2 + Tichards 3.7 kernel.
I dont see what the big deal is with having to charge the thing everynight. I do it regardless if its drained or not. Why are people so lazy

I don't consider myself particularly lazy. I just like my tools to last as long as possible. Like most people... Went back to 3.4 for a few other reasons as well...

KP's Beta #4 vs Ninja vs Red Pill

I figured since there are 3 really good ROMs out right now, but I don't have the time to really test them out, I figure I would ask the question here.
Kenneth's Beta #4

Dorian's Red Pill
vs
Sam's Ninja
What are the pros and cons of each that you guys have noticed? I'm looking to jump to one, but don't have all the time in the world. I've left out CherryBlur since it's based off of 4.5.2 and I would like to use themes Nottach has created.

your asking about personal preference which can be dangerous since people want to believe they are always right lol so be wary im using ken's rom and its pretty stock to what was released is really fast nice ui and can be flashed back, all these roms run well so its all a matter of which ui appeals to you if you like the new version of motoblur then thats mostly kens if u want a gingerbread(black and green) thats ninja although im not sure if the dock is on gb yet and im not aware of what red pill looks like but to be straight forward so far the two ive run sams and kens both run great its a ui preference.
I run Cherryblur and its my favorite so far, then I say Kenns since its just a stock ATT rom which is why it has the least amount of bugs.

i created ninja, i cn personally tell you i created it from att stock 100% ninja speed freak is the fastest rom available, prob the most stable too. as it is the one that has the least amount of mods. ninjas goals are too create the most stable base for anyone to modify themselfs. i have one confirm rom comming soon based off ninja speed freak.
kenns and navalynts are also great works. but they have different goals.
once im done working on cm7 and gentop ninja will be compile from source. based off aosp.
I love Ninja SF! tried cherryblur, too buggy for my tastes. And then KP'S rom was nice, but its just stock.

Oh. I'm an idiot. I've been gone too long. Getting thrown into this after GB and the rush of ROMs and kernel being created is bogging down on me...I apologize to the community.
I have been using CherryBlur v0.5 with faux123's latest kernel and Mattedblues theme. Battery life seems pretty good, speed is wonderful and everything just works. I haven't tried any of the other ROM's because I have everything setup like I want it and just don't feel like setting up again. I will not run the later CherryBlur ROM's because the themes will not work with them. Right now I believe all of the ROM's should perform pretty similar since they are all based off of the same source(except for CherryBlur v1+).

Anyone notice touchscreen lag or unresponsiveness on any of these ROMs? I just tried out all 3 actually, and all 3 of them have the same issue where my touches don't get registered if I'm using the touchscreen heavily.
Ninja SF all day everyday even on a Sunday. I like what Sam has done with his rom. Plus I like Sam's style! KP's is nice too. Red pill is red duh I know but I hate the color and because of that I haven't tried it.

ROM Reviews and Discussion

Hi guys,
Still on stock ROM, but looking to flash a new one really soon - looked through both Original and Development threads and haven't been very confident so far. Why?
The most popular ones seem to be Lightening and VillainROM, but I haven't found any comprehensive reviews of their battery life and performance - VillainROM doesn't have screenshots either. Mostly the posts on their threads are questions or debugging or pointing out bugs, so its hard to get a proper gauge.
So what are your thoughts on the ROMs so far? Looking for the usual - good battery, stability, performance. I don't care much for the blue of Lightening but as long as it works, it works. What makes it different from Villain?
Also appreciate any other ROMs that may be good to install!
Thanks!
One of the best and smoothest ROMs I've tried has been CyanogenMod 7. Its stable (even in the 7.1 RC), fast, good battery life and reliable. Check it out, its a definite favorite in my book
Sent from my Droid 1 CM7.1.0 RC1
So far I've only tested VillainROM. I'm waiting for a more stable CM7 to try it out, but until then VR seems to be okay. To be honest there's nothing special about it. Battery life is acceptable, it's close to a stock rom, it doesn't have bugs, it has Nimpo kernel, vrtweaks which let you install some mods more easily, and the devs are skilled and helpful. That's enough for me

I've now used villain, darkys, adam's aosp, CM7 and MIUI.
All great roms. Villain and darky are both quite close too stock TW. AdamG AOSP is as about as close to androidstock as you can get-which is clean and simple. CM7 is the ultimate ROM for the tweaker and hacker and its also v fast.
MIUI is the most visually different rom. It looks completely different and has some great visual cues. Battery life its also v good on the latest build (.29 beta 32). Its the one I'm using at the moment, but I switch between it and CM7 on occasion.
you won't go wrong with any and although they aren't fully stable (the non TW ones). I've never had any stability issues with them. Just be prepared to not have an fm radio or full bluetooth audio...
My 2 cents, hope it helps!

There are quite a few, VillainROM is included. You can also flash a BLN compatible kernel to make BLN work.
Thanks, I may want to stick close to TW-based ROMs for the time being until CM7 is stable and GS2-friendly then I've done MIUI before, its a fantastic ROM for older phones, but of course there's problems with translations sometimes and the UI gets old/too iphone after a while.
currently on lightening 2.2 with nimphetamine 2.04 kernal. More than happy with my battery. I get more than a days use out of it quite easily, battery loss is about 1% an hour in standby and the rom itself is very stable. Ive never had a force close, reboot or anything. Im using the steel blue theme too as i like the look of the icons more.
Ive no plans to try any other roms until a fully released cynagen rom is available which i will try, just to see what the fuss is about more than anything.

I would also like to know.
A VillainROM user here along with ninphetamine kernel I find this the best combination, battery life is awesome and the devs are useful. It's smooth fast and just well top notch.
I've tried many roms but always come back to VR. The best thing to do is try them and find one for your own liking there are dozens to choose from now. In the future I'll try CM7 as I used to run that on my DHD but as of now I'm happy with the TW roms.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App
Batista70 ROM w/ Ninpo's 2.0.5 kernel here, so far so good. Runs smooth and quite battery-friendly.
I've used Lite'ning also but somehow the I've run into some battery drain issues with it before. Eye'ing CM7 once it gets a stable release.
The latest CM7 nightly, 13, is running really well, it all seems just as it was on my Desire so far, no crashes, just a lockscreen hang every now and again.
Don't know about the Bluetooth audio as I prefer a wired headset.

Best battery life for Froyo?

I'm considering going back to froyo from EH17, and I was wondering what would be the best setup for battery life?
One I have in mind is SRF 1.2 w/ Genocide Kernel and EE03 modem?
It varies from phone to phone. I'm on SFR 1.2 with Genocide 1.0, EC05.

Just curious, why haven't you flashed Genocide 2.0?

Damnn! I think I might stick w/ SRF though only because I like the theme more and I've used it before. (not 1.2, but an older version)
My phone just likes 1.0 more than anything else with the exception of the Vision kernel that borked everyone's phones. Mine included.
I switched back the other day. I like sfr, but figured I would try something new, and went with random rom 2.2 phoenix with genocide 1.0, but kept the eh17 modem. So far so good. Random seems to be set up very good for max battery life. Staying on genocide 1.0 for now, cause after reading through the thread a bit, someone had posted that the rom is pretty much optimized for that kernel. I am, however, looking forward to some sfr 1.3 if it ever drops.

Its fantabulous, or tightitious... Both those words are spoken on a regular by a friend of mine Its probably what SFR 1.3 will be, unless they made an app to go with it.

For me the best battery life I have seen is on SRF 1.2 with the twilight kernel. I had nearly four hours of screen on time in like 28 hours.
Best I've ever seen length wise was like 38 hours but screen on time was less than two hours total.
SRF 1.2 is so buttery smooth it seemed like a new phone. Now if I could just get skypes front facing camera to work on Froyo.
Edit: Probably should add I am running JUWE's ram script. I find it easier to deal with and get similar results to V6. Running it at stock speeds so it is undervolted. I have also frozen DRM, SNS, and com.samsung.
I have had no issues now that I cleared all backups reflashed eh17 and eh17 modem and cleared everything before flashing
yes getting to battery, each one is a little different some last a little longer hard core use. to me depends on how many apps you have, where you start actually using phone the most and when not in use, i have settings app and shut down 3g till I need it.
And Everyones Phone is different.
Takes a Little Trying and Finding what Fits You!!!
Thanks everyone. I'm on Urban Regeneration right now and after giving it a daily spin, it seems to be pretty solid.

honeyvillain 1.2
Because i like acer apps, like the folders for social, games, and other stuff, also i liked lets golf and need for seed and with this rom you have the best from custom roms and stock roms.
It has a good battery life, and i watch a lot of videos in the tablet. It last 6 hours when watching videos, when surfing it last 8 hours the most.
IMO the best rom is the stock 3.1 with root and richardtrips kernel as most other roms have problems with one thing or another and its always a trade off. 3.1 is solid and the custom kernel allows for 1.6 OC which really turns the device into a powerhouse.
I'm also into the vanilla look of honeycomb and the cheesy icon reskins found on other roms is pretty lame but to each his own .
Probably not what you wanted to hear since you're asking about custom roms but it doesnt hurt to express my opinion on the subject.

I had this problem of getting please insert Sim. I found I out that it is kernel specific. If the kernel devs had developed it for use with a500/501 then the Sim card will be present. If that is the case then you need to add the line ro.carrier=wifi-only to /system/build.prop
Then the annoying messages will go away . As for the bookmarks, I got no ideas

Im running bionix v 1.3.1 and I've made some changes to it using some tweeks used in toxic 8 and made this rom twice as snappy with awsome battery life like that of toxic 8 if interested just say the word
I used the script manager ,kick ass kernel tweaks, bali kernel,kb5 modem, and the build.prop from toxic crazy 8.....had to modify it a tiny bit....
Your probly wondering why I went thru all this trouble...
I love both rims but found a few bugs in craxy8 that I couldn't stand.....and after a little while other aspects of the rom started getting glitchy.....and since the creater of toxic crazy 8 has moved on.....I chose not to bother him with it.....
I found no issues with bionix other than battery life wasn't nearly as good as toxic crazy 8 and wasn't quite as fast and snappy.....so I took it apon myself to merge what I feel to be the 2 best 2.2 roms together..well sorta mixed them
I have used Bionix v1.3.1 with Bali kernel for a long time and it is the most stable rom I have used on the Vibrant. My brother uses Nextgen V2 with Immortality v2.2 and that is super snappy too. V2 seems to have a different launcher by default, and generally has more third party apps preinstalled (I delete them with Titanium Backup).
For some odd reason, that same combo does not work on my Vibrant and crashes a lot. I guess even between the same phone there are differences within that we do not know about (the color on screen also looks different...and it has nothing to do with Voodoo color). Good luck finding your favorite rom/kernel combo!
