As i have smashed my vega's glass does anyone have any ideas or advive on how to create a rom with HDMI as the default/main/only display? as id like to use it as a smart tv/media box! I am a novice with rom making but understand the therory and im willing to learn!
Currently trying to find where and how androids hardware dispay settings are/work!
could it be as easy as unplugging the lcd and restart with hdmi pluged in?
Hi,
you don't have to create your own ROM for that.
The easiest way to achieve what you want is to buy the official dock station (£30 I guess), plug the HDMI on your TV and stick a wireless USB Mouse-Keyboard combo on the back of the dock (I have used before with my Dell branded, but I'm sure should work with anything). Done!
Vegacomb still does not fully performs with the HDMI so I suggest you to use Corvus5 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1043506 which is the snappiest and most bug-free ROM around I've seen around.
Sit back on the couch, use the mouse as if it was your finger on the screen and the keyboard is just a nice touch for when typing e-mails or searching on you tube.
---
if you don't fancy buying the dock station, there're some ways to make the Vega USB port be a host USB, so u can stick the mouse direct on it, but then you can read to find it out how.
thaks for the reply! i was thinking of going back to corvus5 or maybe cm7 because as you say they have usb host also the dock for the vega is hard to find. The thing id like to do is have the resolution increased to 1280x800 like the xoom or 1280x720+? instead of 1024x600 in a 720 or 1080 box?
what im aming to do is turn my broken vega into a smart android tv box like...

I saw those links and find them very tempting.
But the fact is that those are very special versions of android with some extra dedicated hardware for video decoding. Tegra2 is for sure a massive powerhouse, but, as a control systems (automation) engineer and Android App (not ROM) developer, I don't think there would be a way to "just trick it out" some existing Vega ROM to do the job. You would really need to built your own version of Android creating some own specific drivers. But that's kinda of my guess based on my knowledge of hardware, I hope I'm wrong cause I would definitely want to take a look in such ROM.

i know those have special hardware for video decoding but the vega will play 720 or even 1080 in the right codec etc!! im not to worried as i use my ps3 for hd content. im realy looking for internet gmail gtalk youtube iplayer etc and some games on my tv for my wife and children (they love angry birds!)
As for drivers the vega must have some kind of hdmi driver already?
I want to dissable the lcd and have hdmi as default display insted of mirrord?
Does android use edid info to set resolution etc can this be taken from the tv?id like to up the ui resolution to make it less pixilated, as youtube and media will run at upto 1080 over hdmi can the ui and apps be forced to?
sorry to ramble , im learning lots!!

Looks the same as the Vega dock, I just walked into PC world and grabbed one for £25(reduced from £30) shame you don't get a extra power block with it.
Mods please move this question to the general section. Thanks.
seems my post got hijacked i dont care about docks its still a mirrord ouput! My real question is can someone please try to point my in the right direction...
I want to dissable the lcd/digitizer use a mouse and have hdmi as default display running full UI at 1280x720 or higher, i beleve that i have to edit the kernel driver/module? im shure this is possable as it can be done on the tegra 250 dev kits?
not rely fussed what android version, ive gone back to corvus5 as 2.2 is nvidia supported drivers thought it should be best approach?
Any links to help me get started with the vega kernel would be very much appreciated!

Is there any way to use the Epic as a mini monitor? I'm assuming not but I figured I'd ask anyways. Would it be possible at all?
That's actually a very good idea but I don't think its possible.

No HDMI in for the simple reason that there is no hardware support.

Doesn't really make any sense since our resolution is so low the HDMI input video would look horrible. Also, considering we can't even get the standard video out to work I seriously doubt the reverse is going to work.
Not wired, but there's this app: http://www.shapeservices.com/en/products/details.php?product=idisplay&platform=android
Theres another that I can't find right now (magic something I think). Both are based on VNC mirror display drivers, do you need a pc, a server app for the pc and the client software for your andoid.
Good luck.

Hi all, my name is jazux and I'm thinking of buying archos 70 IT. Now I got few questions 1. Is there android 2.3 uptade for A70IT? 2. Can this tablet dualboot (like hd2 can)? 3. When you play games like angry birds, raging thunder 2 and Dillo hills does it lag even a little bit? 4. Does the device break easily? 5. Is a70IT going to get any more android uptades? 6. How do you flash ROMs on this tablet? Odin, uptade.zip 7. Should I by a70 or a101? Thanx in advance

There are not much differences with A70 and A101, but the A101 has more fixes than the A70 (i think i rode) because its a "newer" version off the A70.

Here i am
To Gpu:
Its not the best but not bad! I play this games: Shift/GunBros/Settlers HD without any lags
You can look at my Poll thread here:

Peoples wrote here why they bought an Archos Tablet.
This should help you
You can post you questions to me here, but i'll response them at first on sunday, i go away over weekend
I purchased and Archos 7 for my son this past Christmas and I really considered it a great purchase until.... We bought a Nook Color a couple of months ago. Much larger developer support network. Cyanogen 7 runs great on the Nook Color. Nook Color feels more substantially constructed than the Archos. Cost is almost identical, we picked ours up for $200 from the BN EBay store when they had a big push a couple of months ago.
i'd suggest getting a nook color instead. it's sturdier, better screen and cheaper. lots of active dev going on with it too.
the archos shines in the multimedia playback dpt though. it'll play all kinds of files and has very good sound quality. however, it's screen isn't very good - the 101 is even worse, almost as bad as the gtablet's screen.
the 70 i had and the 101 i have lock up a lot when doing more than 1 thing or trying to do things too fast, like multitab browsing. the 256MB of RAM limits your performance. the nook has 512.
so it all depends on what you want. a 7" tablet, go for the nook color (or galaxy tab wifi - it's hardware is the same as the nook's, the 3g has better hardware). for a multimedia powerhouse, the archos is better; the galaxy tab is almost as good.
I want to use my tablet mostly for gaming, i mean like games that requires high end devices and music and a little movies maybe, but nook has only 800mzh cpu... so is it good to play games?
Sent from my GT-I5800 using XDA App
And if i decide to buy archos i will make my own custom ROM based on android 2.2 would people like that or does everyone use urukdroid?
Sent from my GT-I5800 using XDA App
I just sold my archos 101, I highly reccommend you to not get the archos..altough games were "payable" it had some issues and lags
get a honeycomb tablet, the most inexpensive (and hard to find) is the asus transformer..which is only US $400
I use urukdroid atm because its the best and i test things with lenn for $auron , but if honeycomb for android is coming i take it then (i think) ;-)
This was a very good tablet for its price 6 months ago. It is now still good, but if you can get the transformer with Honeycomb with only 100 $ more... just do it.
In any case I have a very good experience with the 101. It does sometimes have some lag, but I wouldn't say that the device is overall slow, it's just OK. Raging Thunder is perfect. Most games I have tried also run smooth (except Fruit Ninja which lags), but I don't really use many resource hungry games.
Having more ROMs developed is always good in any case.
Let me repeat it: the 101 is indeed a good tablet, whith lots of interesting features (full size USB, HDMI, and the kickstand!!!!), but getting a for 100 $ more is probably worth the price difference (unless I am missing some lacks of the transformer).
Be careful that the build quality of the 101 is also not fantastic. It's not really bad and I have no problems at all with mine, but it's mostly made up with plastic, not metal, I am quite sure that it would break if it fell even from relatively low heights. The screen also breaks easily, using a hard case is recommended. Also, the viewing angles of the screen are quite bad, but you will get used to this.
Ok so I have searched a bit and cannot find anything related to a TV Out for the Dinc. I know I have seen it mentioned on this forum before, but search is not showing any results.

I have not heard of it working with AOSP ROMs, only Sense. I don't use TV-OUT at all, but seeing posts about it, it doesn't work with AOSP.
At this very moment, I don't believe so. Although I haven't kept up with any AOSP roms in months. That said, the news (and Verizon support PDF to go along with it) that there is a gingerbread update dropping hopefully this week will bring with it the proper files that AOSP rom developers need to incorporate 720p.
awesome hopefully video out is included in this GB update and can be incorporated into the AOSP roms.
I assume I need a miniusb to hdmi cable or something?

Maybe some one will make a sense-less script that you can use to remove sense but keep TV out on GB. i know Lou had a script that removes sense on his rom. it felt the same as AOSP
Does TV-out work on sense GB roms? I thought it was just working on froyo but I could be wrong. Assuming that source is going to be released now for GB, maybe we'll see something implemented into AOSP GB roms?
I have no clue about tv out compatibility on gingersense roms,I don't have a use for it. But I will say there are quite a few people anticipating updates in EVERY rom with 720, tv out, kernel development, or glitches being ironed out. I'm happy everyone gets a piece of the pie if and when the source is released.

I haven't seen it on any Gingerbread ROMS that I know of... I last had it on WarmZ which was Sense 2.0 on Froyo. The closest I figure I can get to AOSP with TV-Out is LauncherPro+ on the Sense ROM of choice.
I've been patiently waiting for it to show up on G-Bread. The cord is just sitting right there begging to be used lol I have no idea why they can't implement TV-Out on AOSP roms though. Seems like one of those features that just gets thrown in uknow.
what cord is needed? I assume the correct drivers will be found when the source is released.
I assume the GB source thats coming will fix TV-out in both Sense and AOSP roms.

Its equivalent to a DVD player or a Wii; it looks really good on CRT TV's and kinda whatever on an HD flat screen... I have a 32 inch CRT and I watch movies off the phone on a regular basis, its pretty awesome
What's a CRT? ;-)
Good info though, thanks. I've been curious about the TV-out functionality of the inc.
I purchased from my Verizon store the TV out cable. Yeah, it works like the last guy said. I picked it up primarily to watch movies on my girlfriend's CRT TV. It worked great. Then she got an LCD and it didn't look quite as good.
I lost TV out once I switched from Sense to CM7. We'll see what happens with the coming GB update. Maybe I'll switch back. I doubt it, though, especially if TV out may be coming to AOSP ROMs.

video looks good, but the processing power of the phone is limited so I've had stuttering issues with higher resolution videos that would look good on an LCD. not the cables fault.

- general web browser
- maybe songza
and I'm wondering which ROM might be the most stable? I've heard of people having issues with Netflix off stock, on stock, yes, no, maybe... mine is currently running stock, v5.1.1.
Which one is the most stable from my usage point would you fine people say?

I've tried a few remotes with a few android boxes I've had and this one is the best I've found. I bought the one called 'Aerb' but you'll see a number of resellers on ebay selling the exact same device. It runs on 2 AAA batteries.
What I really really like is that the four coloured buttons on the bottom AND the big red power button on the
top left are learning/programmable IR blasting, so you can program them to turn your TV on, change inputs, increase TV volume etc. using your TV remote. The other buttons are not programmable.
