what do i do if i ran out of battery while flashing a rom. what do i do? it wont turn on and when i plug it in it has no red or green light.
details?
a bit more info?
windows or android?
it was on magdlr installed and i hard reset it to install the original software. then i left the room came back, found it blank screened. now ive tried charging it and turning it on and off and nothing happens.
If you were flashing a Windows Mobile ROM and the battery died, your HD2 is hard bricked. The only solution to un brick it is to replace the main board or have it JTAGed. The same is true if you were doing a hard reset and the battery died, cause it is accentually flashing the stock ROM from memory. If you live in the US I can refer you to some one here if you live in Europe I can suggest someone from there too, just send me a PM.
thanks. but im all the way in the philippines. ill drop by htc here and ask if they can do it. whats JTAGED?

is there any other way to fix it? without opening it?
1st - you can ignore tmacs post of doom,,running out of battery while flashing winmo doesn't automatically hard brick it, , I've pulled the battery / USB cord during flashing four or five times. Its only while the spl/radio part of the flash is hapoenijg that
there's danger.
2nd - can't charge under magldr when android isn't booted. That's why you aren't getting a charge light.
Either charge your battery in another phone/external charger, or cut the end off a USB cable (mini or micro, doesn't matter) bare red and black and hold red to + black to - on the battery and hold for a minute or two,,more, since you need to have enough power to do a full flash. Ten mins maybe, using wall charger, not USb port.

Hmmm I never thought about that option but then again I am not brave enough to pull my battery while flashing .
At the OP, mc23w, take samsamuel's advice. After I read his post I agree he is probably right, He has given you some very good advice. I was strickly going on the following statement in post #1.
it wont turn on and when i plug it in it has no red or green light.

thanks! ill try that now.

i think tmac was right though. i think its bricked cuz i held the wires to the battery for 3 min and when i plug my hd2 into my laptop, the laptop makes a strange noise similar to when you plug a usb into a laptop, but the screen of my hd2 is still blank.

Does it show up as QualComm something or another in the device manger on your computer while you have your HD2 plugged in via USB cable?
Qualcomm CDMA Technologies MSM, this pops up
ah well in that case it sounds like a regular stock rom flashed to a tmous hd2. (putting 'i have a tmous hd2 and i flashed xxyyzz.exe rom'' in your first post would have been the key piece of info.
So, tmac's earlier summary was correct, , you need a new mainboard, or get it JTAGged.
what is JTAGged? you think they can do that in the htc store? though im guessing their going to want to get a new mainboard because it makes them more money

JTAG is a device that connects to the main board of the HD2. (The main board has to be removed for this.) The JTAG also connects to a adapter called a Oemni Repair Tool (ORT) and then is connected to a Riff Box and then to a computer. Software you run on your computer for the Riff Box reserects (re writes) the SPL to the main board. once the main board is back in and the HD2 is completely reassembled you can boot to the bootloader and flash a ROM again.
Edit: Just to let you know you can generally get a HD2 JTAGed for $40 to $50 USD, I don't know what that would be in your local currency.
ive lived there so i know the price. but that will be hard to find here. i think ill just get a main board from ebay its about 55 bucks too

No that looks like it is the mainboard for those HD2 clone devices. They are just cheep knock off versions. You do not want that one.

When I picked it up it would only boot to a screen with a triangle with an exclamation mark in it and it says Software Update Failed! Please try again. He said he was trying to load Android but didn't know what he was doing and every time he pulls the battery that's as far as it gets. I figured for $20 maybe I can get it into bootloader and do something with it. I got it home and did a battery pull, put it back in and held the power button and volume down and nothing. Now it won't even turn on at all. When I picked it up he did a battery pull and turned it on to the Software Failed screen but now nothing. I've left the battery out for an hour, had it plugged in to 2 different wall chargers and every USB port on my computer and nothing. I even stripped a USB cable and held the wires to the + - terminals on the battery for 15 minutes and nothing. I'm hoping the battery is just shot or not taking any charge and a new one might at least get me to the bootloader.
I suggest you make a Gold Card to flash it with. This is like the one almost assured flash of Windows Mobile to your HD2. a Gold Card will force a flash sometimes. If you do not know what a Gold Card is just Google Gold Card for HTC HD2.
If you can flash Windows Mobile back to the HD2 you can then try Android again on it if you want.

Because at the moment it's a $20 paperweight. Black screen, no charging light, won't even go to the software failed screen. I don't know anyone else with another HD2 I can use to check the battery or to use to charge it if it is dead. If worse comes to worse I'll send it off to HTC.

I read the tutorial a couple times and I'm guessing the phone would have to have power to do this. This puppy is dead at the moment. For all I know it was Raptured during the night.
check the battery pins carefully for bent pins, and also, just to check, when you did the bare usb cable charging, you put neg to neg, live to live, right?(black to - red to +, , + being the outer one)
Id probably try a phone shop, see if they'l let you put a battery in for a few seconds, just to confirm if its the battery that has died, and if theyre really nice maybe theyl let you try your battery in their hd2.
If it IS the battery and you get it working, its dead simple, no goldcard or anything like that needed,, , the exclamation screen you got is from flashing an incorrect (wrong carrier/region) stock rom via sd card whilst hspl was installed, (its been removed now, by the start of teh sd card flash, thats why it gave rom update fail) and simply entering bootloader and reflashing using a rom correct for your serial will fix that.
(or indeed entering bootloader, applying hspl then flashing your chosen cooked rom and radio, , , or radio and magldr, whatever you want to do. Its a scary screen the exclamation one, but its one of the easiest to get past)
Yeah a phone shop is probably a good idea. There's a T-Mobile pretty close. I had an HD2 I sold last year that I had put some different ROMs on and Android so I figured if this one was stuck at the software failed screen it would be a pretty easy fix. I used it in the Yucatan for the GSM signal plus it doubles as a pretty good camera and bought this one because I'm going back. But reading the threads about it just being dead and not booting to anything makes me think it might be trashed. If it is I'm only out $20. If it's to pricey for HTC to fix it there are a couple on craigslist cheap with broken LCD's. Might try piecing 2 together.
unfortunately looks like you've bricked the unit, you can actually resurect it by using JTAG software/hardware http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XroEPU4qyuM

That's what I was thinking. But I didn't do it, all I did was pull the battery. If it is it's only $20
Its not the famous tmous radio brick, unless you didnt mention something you did in your first post.
the only way it gets that kind of brick is flashing a radio from a regular HD2, the fact that the flash failed (exclamation screen) and you say you didnt try to flash anything else would point to a different problem. If the radio HAD flashed, the phone wouldnt have booted even to the excl screen.
You see, when you flash a stock rom via sd card, if hspl is installed it will allow the flash to start, but step 1 is first changing the spl(removing hspl) then the phone restarts into the new spl, and flashing continues. But because hspl is no longer there, cid checks fail and the flashing stops, so no radio gets flashed, so no radio brick.
radio bricks happen when you flash a non tmous stock rom via Goldcard or via usb whilst hspl is installed, because over USB, hspl is NOT removed at step 1 so the flashing is allowed to continue, the radio gets flashed, the phone dies.

You see the problem is I don't know what this guy did to it. All he said was he tried to load Android. When I picked it up in would power on and stop at the Software Failed screen. After I pulled the battery it does absolutely nothing.

exactly, which is why im suspecting battery/battery pins/power issue, because it DID come on for you, meaning it isnt a radio brick, and the pins are very easily bent when the battery is pulled, one slight twist to the angle of rotation and the casing on the battery around the flat connectors catches the pins on the way up and out.
If he was installing android, he most likely installed magldr, which prevents teh battery from charging when the phone is off, hence me wanting to double check you were doing the USB bare wire charger correctly, because a totally dead battery won't charge in the phone, if magldr is there. And so, back to testing if its teh battery, thats what you need to confirm before you can move on,,,,, is the battery alive but flat? ten seconds with a known good battery, or a HD2 running winmo (can charge when off with winmo installed) will answer it for you.
Yes I made sure it was hooked up correctly. I held the wires on the terminals for what I thought would be long enough. Maybe the battery is junk? Thanks for the pointers though. I do appreciate the help.
In my first post last night I took it you were having a issue with getting a ROM to flash. I see now your issue is not this so I do apologize.
Samsamuel has givin you some great advice. Have you tried connecting your wall charger to the HD2 and then power it on? This is how I would get my HD2 to boot back up so I could charge if I accidentally let the battery drain all the way down and I was using MAGLDR. (Not a problem anymore thanks to cLK)
Now seeing as you do not have a ROM to boot into this will not charge your battery but just maybe prove the HD2 is not dead. I agree with Samamuel about it not being bricked, I think you just have battery/power issues right now, namely the lack of power.
Go to this thread that just sprung up last Tuesday in the HD2 Windows Phone 7 Q&A and General forum. Read the first post as it gives a method of charging your battery when dead using MAGLDR. I have not personally tested this cause I no longer use MAGLDR. I can not promise you it works but it is worth a shot. Let us know if this worked for you and post in the thread I linked as well if it works. That thread needs a confirmation post.
I tried 2 different wall chargers and just tried to tip in the thread you suggested. Nothing. Even tried a PowerMat for 3 hours.

Hello everybody! It's samanen here, a newbie on xda. NOOOB
For first I'd like to apologize my not-so-good english, I'm 15 and from Finland so please keep the point in the problems and forget my english difficulties
Ok, splutting off and let's move to the point here
So I bought my HD2 (used) about two weeks ago, and right away tried to put WP7/android on it and sync music, contacts, videos and other stuff - but my USB connection didn't, and still doesn't work.
Ofcourse I tried reconnecting, cleaning the usb cable and port on the phone, tried another PCs and total of 10 different USB ports, another cable, Mac OS, Win7, WinXP, SyncMate, WMDC, ActiveSync, removing the battery, resetting the phone, removing SD-Card and SIM-Card, ActiveSync, Hard Disk and Faster data sync options, etc etc with no positive result. Its no fun having a mobile device with no access to put media and other stuff on it :/
Specs and facts:
HTC HD2 (aka Leo), non-T-Mobile (EU version?)
Software info:
Os Version : 5.2.21913 (21913.5.0.94)
Manila version : 2.5.20181527.0
ROM version : 3.14.405.2 (04666) WWE
ROM date : 09/29/10
Radio version : 2.15.50.14
Protocol version : 15.42.50.11U
Hardware info:
CPU : QUALCOMM(R) 8250B
Speed : 1024 Mhz
RAM size : 448MB
Flash memory size : 512MB
Enough numbers?
I think I have tried all the stuff I found here... Still no result, can't be detected on my PC. When I connect my phone to my PC, a notification pops up saying that USB device couldn't be detected/recognized, and it may be damaged. 1 second after it popped up it disappears and if I check the devices connected to the pc, there's no undetected devices anymore.. If I'm quick enough to click on the notification, it shows me what devices are connected and their situations, and I can see an undetected USB device there, but if I refresh (reopen) the window it disappears..
Also, if I use the option "When phone is on, do not charge the battery when connected to a PC." and connect to a PC via USB, it STILL does charge the battery. So my hypothesis is that the phone believes it's on a charger/car kit because its not getting recognized as a USB hard disk/device on my PC and still charges as it's connected to PC. Could this be possible in any way?
Also, when I got the phone and put it on the charger, CoPilot popped up every second (I closed it, it opened, etc) and I had to uncheck some option "When connected to a car kit open CoPilot automatically", so another thing there which refers to my phone being a psycho and believing its being on a charger.
I know there are people with this problem, and topics on this forum, but I think my problem is a bit different from theirs and nobody has really got an answer for this..
Then to my second problem. I can't enter Bootloader mode, or Hard Reset mode.
When I hold down the volDown button and press the bootup button, my phone either normally boots up or doesn't even boot up or show signs of booting into bootloader.
Once I got into the bootloader after dozens of tries, but as I'm stupid, I didn't write down the numbers shown there.. And now I seem not to be able to enter bootloader even after 20 tries.. Hardreset neither works. Same plan - either normally boots up or doesn't do anything. Weirdo much? Can anyone help? :/ I think I've bought an useless device..
Thanks,
samanen
Hi man! Try to flash your phone from SD card with stock ROM. Hope you will get good result! Let me know what happens!
Maybe it is your usb cable. I also can not sync with the cable that was delivered with the official carkit. It is just possible to load the device with that cable.
Your bootloader problem could be caused by broken volume buttons. I think they often get destroyed when replacing a broken touch screen. Do they work without problems inside the os?

I have tried 2 different cables, one from the package the previous owner provided me and another one from my dad's N97 mini. Could I be so unlucky that those cables are ones that don't work with HD2? I hope I am If you think its about the cable, what cable would you suggest me to get? Just a basic microusb cable from the electonic store? Also the previous owner told me he wiped out all the data and synced the phone before sending it to me WITH the cable provided, so.. Idk Strange.
No, my volume buttons are working great inside the os, I can adjust vol down and up well without any problems. Also my volbuttons are not sticky or feel like broken so I just don't believe that theyre damaged. Also the screen has never got damaged or repaired.
Another problem - Isn't it required to enter bootloader mode when updating the rom? :/
Thanks for both of you for your replies and suggestions, I will keep you updated if anything helps or gets clarified!

Sorry then i can not help you. I do not think it is the cable. I bought one on amazon. It is official htc charging and syncing cable. This just came to my mind because you said that your copilot starts if you plug your phone in....
If you want to install another winmo rom you can do it when connected via active sync and it will automatically go to bootloader. If you want to install hspl for custom roms or android you have to go to bootloader for the installation.

Still no reply, wow. Today I got a message that my phone will be back in two weeks. Slow service.
They also told me, that as the usb is LOOSE when you plug the cable in, it may be my fault. wow. So they're not repairing it for free i quess..
My phone is back..
Ok, got my phone back. The mohterboard has been damaged, they told me it had got wet. That's something what's not under warranty, so they're not repairing it for free. The repair would cost almost 500€ so it's totally not worth it. The report says: USB-Connectiong is loose (from other components), also injury with water in screen and motherboard.
Seems that the last owner already knew it's damaged and sold me a damaged one, as he told me it's working 100%.
So, I don't have a clue what to do next. I think I should try repairing it myself but is it worth it? Or worth trying? Where can i get the parts and tutorials how to do this? I think i gotta only repair the usb thingy but i'm not sure - I'd love to get some help now. Thanks in advance.

I had the exact same problem and it seemed that my cable was loose. You can try repairing it by yourself (it's not under warranty) or trying different pc/cable.
Try this : go to your pc and remove USB driver from application control panel, and after reconnect hd2.
Probably us not a cable problem, but drivers problems.
Bye.

Hello.....
My htc hd2 is bricked..At least i think it is.
When i try to turn it on then it vibrates 7 times and won't turn on. I sent it to some small shop repairing service but they couldn't fix it. Is there something special that needs to be done? Please could anybody help me?
Sounds like bricked. Did you check that none of the battery pins are bent and not making good contact with the battery?
If that's not it, then its probably bricked. Did you try flashing a new rom or radio and end up with it in its current state, or did it just start doing this on its own?
Sent from my HTC HD2 using XDA App
Im afraid once it vibrates a few times but the screen is blank during power on, the phone is bricked. Happened to my Touch HD once. However, im sure given your status, you would have tried to enter the boot loader or try a hard reset. Your best bet is to get a used HD2 with a broken screen(quite cheap) and salvage the mainboard. Alternatively, you can purchase a RIFF JTAG tool(http://www.gsm-technology.com/index...963?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item35b5d4b5d3), (http://www.ipmart.com/main/product/JTAG,Adapter,compatible,for,HTC,HD2,,LEO,277864.php?prod=277864). This should work if you follow this tutorial (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eoiuM9epp2o). A few HD2 users on this forum have tried this before, but it really depends on what damage your FLASH has undergone. If its data corruption,it should be salvaged via the tool, but if its some sort of hardware fault, im afraid it wont help. Hope this helps, and good luck!

And just to lighten up the situation a bit, youve made a good choice in getting a Galaxy S II. Not only is it a hell of a phone, but Samsung phones are unbrick-able. In the sense that if you brick it, theres a software that can unbrick it and especially for your Galaxy S II, theres this tiny tool (http://www.ebay.com/itm/UNBrick-Sam...686806?pt=PDA_Accessories&hash=item3f0d46da16) that you can plug into your micro USB and make it breath again. Thats one hack of a feature!...Hope some one can design something like that for Snapdragon/HTC devices.

Sounds like bricked. Did you check that none of the battery pins are bent and not making good contact with the battery?
If that's not it, then its probably bricked. Did you try flashing a new rom or radio and end up with it in its current state, or did it just start doing this on its own?

Yeah, Isn't this jtag thing really hard? But I guess I have nothing to lose, right? :/
Thanks a lot for the responses
If you are looking for a cheap tool that is capable of JTAG, look here (I never said it was easy..) :
http://code.google.com/p/the-bus-pirate/wiki/Home
it might be a software problem. i think make a clean install of a stable rom. i solved my same problem by this way.
If you hold down the volume down button and power it on (continuing to hold down both the volume down and power button) does it go into download mode? If so you should be able to flash back to a stock ROM I believe.
Alright guys. Today I received my HD2 in the mail and I had one once before in the past. I bought this on Ebay claimed it was broken because it was stuck on the stick together screen I got it for 65$ and now I turned it on it was stuck there. I went to the bootloader it was SPL 2.08 and now I removed the battery but I can't get any response to turn on anymore. When I plug in a charger theres no orange led. I checked the back on the phone it looked like it was opened up before because the void label is all smashed but visible. Is it bricked? The seller said it would sometimes go stick together or stay black. I'm trying my best to turn it back on atleast to bootloader because I have no ****ing working USB to PC cable. and keep it like that till I get one. Any help?
Okay i just got it to turn on but I didn't get the chance to enter the bootloader just Stick Together. I have no clue if it's just random or the battery is going poop. I will try to get it to respond at least so I can enter the bootloader and find a working usb cable.
first, the not turning on when it was on a moment before - check the battery pins, they bend easily, and can sometimes crack.
there are a number of faults that can cause hanging on splashscreen, and also that can cause inability to enter bootloader, some hardware, some software.
Im assuming its a tmous, in which case hunt down the link to the tmous rom on the htc website (start at t-mobile.com, i think its still linked there)
get the latest rom and then all you can do is try to get into bootloader and try flashing.
If you get it to start turning on but cant get into bootloader with voldown, ive seen threads where disconnecting the bottom hard buttons has helped, and also threads where a faulty vol-down was to blame and shorting the pins manually was the solution.
But there's no orange led light when I plug in a charger. I've looked at topics and it has 2.10 SPL and no rom or radio it's been task29'd

Nvm, I got the it to charge a little. It's been booting up everytime i turn it on now. I'm just wanting for my usb cable to work because right now it's not working on any phone i have with me other than the HD2 so it's the cable. It works fine charging but when i try to use my usb cable on my pc with ANY phone it doesn't seem to work. Gotta find one.

it does have a radio, you cant not have one. task 29 doesn't remove it. the radio it has will already be fine for running android, its not something you need worry about until you have a working phone.
Okay. For some weird reason it vibrates 7 times indicating a hardware failure. So that's it. I wasted 65$ that's awesome. Before i can even try to flash a new rom or anything. Ugh.
I got it to work on a freezer and it works till it gets slightly warm or hot.

As stevedebi stated you will need a new motherboard. Unfortunately its not cheep even if you know what your doing and was able to do the labor yourself. I will say that all is not lost though because you could re-sell it on ebay and get your money back. Even in its current state it should sell for around $80-$120. Personally i would list it at $100 obo. You got it so cheep that eventhough you are unable to fix it for a low price you should still be able to get all of your money back.
hello every one
i had an issue while trying to install new rom after i formatted my phone and all system gone
i was shocked i can use my UTG cable to run new room or even i attached to my pc . its charging but not reading from pc

Unfortunately, you may have fried a component on the usb board.
This can happen if you have the usb c inserted in the phone and then plug the A side into the power block.
You can order a new card here: https://www.ebay.com/itm/162671342875?ul_noapp=true If you live near a large city you should be a to find a cell repair shop that can install it for you, should cost more then $50 to $60 dollars or you can send your phone to these guys for repair for probably close to the same price http://leecoservicecenter.com/
Perhaps you can get the usb to computer working by trying this: ( worked for me)
Make sure that your computer is up to date with its usb drivers.
shut down the computer and remove all peripherals, keep unplugged except for keyboard and mouse.
restart
Boot your phone into recovery, and plug your usb cable into one of the computers primary usb ports: usually in the back.
Wait to see if your computer recognises the device.
If it doesn't and you use Windows go to Device Manager
In the Start menu, right-click Computer | Manage, then expand Computer Management on the console tree and select System Tools | Device Manager
In the Start menu, right-click Computer Properties, then click Device Manager on the left pane
Control Panel | Device Manager
Control Panel | Hardware and Sound | Device Manager
Look for the usb card. see if your device is listed there, and update the drivers. Heres a step by step : https://www.drivereasy.com/knowledge/how-to-fix-unknown-devices/
Try multiple cords, and another computer if needed.
It's also possible that the board is temporarily disabled.
Since your phone still charges, the reverse polarity protection that is programmed into the chips have shut down certain components. Perhaps the phone is not actually damaged. But in a protection mode.
Try letting your battery go completely dead, use it until it shuts down, keep restarting it until it has no power left.
With all power removed from the battery, the reverse polarity protection should reset and your next charge and hopefully the phone will be back to normal.
I hope this helps.
Well, this is worrying news. I wonder how common this issue is, or what it's caused by--a bad non-Benson approved cable? A bad USB-C port? Cements the fact that it's safer to use a USB-C to USB-C cable (provided your computer has a USB-C port) rather than a USB-C to USB-A one... now I miss Micro USB's simplicity.

Have you try boot into Fastboot mode? Hold Power button + Volume down and connect phone to pc with type-c cable.
I have Le Max2 x829, Le Pro3 x720,x722 never have any issue, I bought phone from Bangood, x720 locally.

Yes, the the X720 and the X727 are identical, the difference is the firmware.
So a board advertised as X720 will work.

There is still hope: You haven't had the chance to retry once the battery is fully discharged, it may work.
I used to work for Apple Support and I have personally used that as a solution, many times to resolve open support cases. With iPhones that had the exact same issue.
After it's all sorted out. Be sure to buy high quality replacement cables that come with a warranty. I replaced all of the usb c cables my house with new ones that are IF certified. i read about others having this exact issue months ago and I procrastinated.
Hopefully, it works out.
What build twrp do you have?
You can reformat your twrp this fix your USB problem.
Fastboot on this phone volume down power down same time.

Are you serious!
The point was to demonstrate how easy it is, with a high quality video. Next, anyone who's ever taken these phones apart knows the steps are similar, and opening the phone with a heat gun while not damaging anything, obviously crucial.
If you read the entire post you would had noticed the link for the LeEco? See we know what's inside now.... Pretty much the same layout.
Not only is the interior is very similar. The G6 and the x727/x720 have similar specs.
I am actually doing this repair myself on one of my Le pro 3s as soon as the board arrives.
But, I don't have the time or the motivation to make a video when plenty exist.

Nice find! Although also not the same phone, it's still virtually the same steps.
Go for it dude. It's not that hard as long as you are careful. Make sure you get the right sealant for resealing it back together.
You can also use double sided tape :https://www.amazon.com/Eco-Fused-Adhesive-Sticker-Phone-Repair/dp/B00BXYWXV6

You obviously ignored all of the previous posts in which provided all of those caveats. I.E. using a local service provider, or the 3rd party LeEco service site that I provided the link for, among all of the other warnings that I provided in my multiple posts!
Understand, I am actually trying to help someone, and not simply waiting by to make a comment on post that I disagree with. No, I have better things to do.
By the way what valuable service did you provide ? You have repaired so many phones, why not offer your services to fix it for the OP. While you cannot solicit the OP in a post you could PM him.
We both have decades of experience, so what!
I do not provide 3rd party service, on phones.
But, I am willing to do is provide reasonable advice. Buts make it clear, anyone who has experience with component level repair and troubleshooting will understand that this is far from being difficult.
Disassemble the phone, disconnect the wires, insert new USB card, reassemble everything Honestly, my 13 year old daughter could do this. But, she did grow up in a technical environment.
As far as I can ascertain, an important aspect of XDA is sharing information and helping others. Is this why you sign in?
At the end of the day, I don't know you or your history. If you have a long posting history of being helpful and providing expert guidance then please accept my apologies, if I offended you.
I enjoy helping others, it's what I do for a living.
By the way, my answers was also intended as advice for Aegile
