That would explain why we haven't seen many 2.3.4 firmware updates. Let's hope so...
Maybe we'll have Ice Cream Sandwich firmwares in October/November as well, just before the Nexus Prime release

great!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

WTF? 2.3.6 is already out and they're testing 2.3.5? -_-;

Who cares about 2.3.6 if ICS is behind the corner?

+1. ICS is the way to go from now on.

ICS or nothing.;p

LOL, ICS.
Even if it is released October/November, we still will have to wait quite some time for it.
I am not quite sure but, despite the fact that Nexus S and Galaxy S are almost the same phone, it took Samsung like 3-4 months to update to Gingerbread.
(If I recall right the Nexus S was released in January and the update rolled out in May)
Whatever, I hope there will be leaked firmwares so we can update anyways.

No way we'll be able to get it before the nexus prime release. Google would never allow it to happen. It think, at least...

Ouch! Bad news for everyone who has been looking forward to ICS (including my self).

Samfirmware says it doesn't mean anything, they said 2.3.4 was coming out every month that month until they got it right.

Galaxy S Gingerbread update soon. Due at end of March!

According to Android Central: http://www.androidcentral.com/european-galaxy-s-gingerbread-update-coming-end-march
Link to Samsung Romania post: http://www.facebook.com/SamsungMobileRomania/posts/189412624430604
A post on Samsung Mobile Romania's Facebook page seems to suggest that Romanian Galaxy S phones (and presumably other European models) may see an official update to Android 2.3 Gingerbread by the end of March.
Translated into English and cleaned up a little, the post reads:
"The update to version 2.2.1 for Galaxy S will be available until 20 March, and Gingerbread (2.3) until the end of the month."
Our Romanian is a little rusty, but we think it's safe to assume the last part of that statement means either "it'll arrive by the end of the month", or "it won't arrive until the end of the month". Either way, it looks like the European Galaxy S could soon claim bragging rights as the first non-Nexus phone to get an official Gingerbread update. HTC has announced that Gingerbread will be coming to some of its older phones, but these updates aren't due until sometime in the second quarter.
Samsung Romania also adds that two of its budget phones, the i5500 Galaxy 5 and i5800 Galaxy 3, will be updated to Froyo by Mar. 20 and Mar. 31 respectively. [Samsung Romania Facebook via Crave]

The universal kernel is for 2.2 and 2.2.1 ROMs only.
Also, it's not a universal kernel, it's a universal settings.apk that's been fixed for us.

so what this means is... a year till we get gingerbread?

I don't really know the history of the Vibrant, (Picked it up off Craigslist 2 months ago) but this at least gives me some hope.
God, getting Gingerbread on the Vibrant would be AMAZING. It would increase the speed, and once the source is released, we would see some awesome gingerbread ROM's for it.
Just one gingerbread leak for vibrant, then we will be back in business.

Hopefully somebody will be able to port it quickly if T-Mobile foes not roll out the rom in the same timeframe...

2.3.3 --> 2.3.4 migration is really easy, so it's not really surprising.
SGS 2 is the best smartphone at the moment (at least Samsung phone) so it's not shocking they won't abandon it in first two months
Hopefully WiFi battery drain fix is going to be included in the next 2.3.4 ROM

Awesome News an ICS leak will definately bump NOTE sales.
Not to spoil the party or anything, but from what i read, he says that he will get an answer as to when the ICS leak will arrive. Not that it is arriving tomorrow. Either way, good news for us
says nothing about a leak tomorrow, it says hes waiting for info from an inside source tomorrow.
i think everyone is forgetting that the full ics is due to be pushed out to our Notes by Samsung before the end of march anyway, they still have a deadline of first quarter, so id see no point in installing a leak, id sooner await the official version as thanks to the great team of devs we have here theres some awesome gb roms with ics customisations anyway, once you go ics its gonna to be another long wait b4 we start seeing custom roms.
Hope that the ICS fix the rendering issues.

We need this leak so we can finish CM9, which is a custom ROM. If you want to run a bloated TouchWiz ROM that's fine with me, but the current ROMs here aren't fully customized ROMs since they're only tweaked versions of the original ROMs. CM9 will push the development further since it's built from scratch.
And when CM9 is finished we might see MIUI since MIUI is based on CM.

+1 I really like finally see CM9 and MIUI for the Note
The SGS II has had over 5 leaks of the ICS Rom. They have all progressively gotten more stable with each release / leak.
I am thinking, the NOTE will also encounter a very buggy leak and start getting better as SamMobile starts "leaking" roms.
All in all, its a good thing since it allows the CM team to probe further with solutions rather than creating them from scratch.

It would seem so, but as has been stated in the CM9 Alpha thread some of the driver components are different, or at least the BLOBs are. This is the reason why the camera does not work there and Bluetooth is unstable. So it's not only the digitizer that has to be implemented anew. Also, if you look at the official teardown pictures from Samsung you notice that the chip manufacturer is stroke out. Many newssites speculated about whether or not this means it's not the Exynos chip working in there (or at least not the 'usual' model). But this is only a rumour, whereas the camera and the Bluetooth module are definately different.

ahaha the day after i sold my samsung infuse gb was release for it
Simple answer.
ICS on N7000 should be easier for them.
AT&T Note: Had to be modified for faster internet access so users can hit their cap faster.
China's i9220 and Intl N7000 should be about the same thing and easier todo.
And leak are just leaks, who knows how someone got access to that? Maybe we already have a fully perfect ROM for N7000 and Samsung still working out to provide roms for AT&T so ICS update can be a global thing.
Could care less
What does ICS bring to the table, other than hardware acceleration,
probably some newer apps.
The current version of GB 2.3.6 runs on my note like greased lightning.
You know good & well when ICS is released for any device, it's going to have
some of the same growing pains that GB did when it was released.
Since my Note is my business connection device, I think I'll hold off on jumping
onto the ICS bandwagon, until I know for sure it's ROCK SOLID stable.
I don't have time dealing with bugs. Thanks to you bleeding heart types though.
If it wasn't for you, we'd never be anywhere, but, I can't afford to have the
device lock up, slow down, crash etc.
