Android system recovery <2>
Build: CyanogenMod v1.4 + JF
Tried to flash Cyanogen 6 Stable image (update-cm-6.1.0-DS-signed.zip ) using apply sdcard:update.zip Said was successful but hangs on vodafone splash screen at start-up. I was watching a how to video on theunlockr.com at the time which said to wipe data/factory reset prior to flashing the rom but it neglected to tell me to backup first. does this look like a problem with the 6.1 rom I've flashed or something else?
Just wipe everything from recovery and flash the rom once again. You should be ok.
You will also lose all your info and apps.
Why are you flashing through sdcard:update.zip use apply zip from sdcard

I did a wipe/factory reset after that and re-flashed the same ROM but it still hung on start-up. I'll try and use the apply any zip from sdcard and see if that works as suggested by danthepan124. If that doesn't work could I change the recovery image to AMON-RA as recommended by cyanogenmod wiki? Would that make a difference? Is there a way I can start a fresh with HBOOT and Recovery images that are known to work?
ok, have just wiped and re-flashed cyanogen 6.1.0 and no changes, still hangs on Vodafone Splash screen and have to remove battery to turn off. I've wiped again and rebooted then flashed the other Cyanogen 4 (update-cm-4.2.15.1-signed.zip) and 5 (update-cm-5.0.8-DS-signed.zip) ROM for the HTC magic and the v5 ROM hangs at splash also whereas the v4 goes through to a black screen that looks staticy then eventually fades to black. Do i need to flash with a new recovery image like AMON-RA?, will that make a difference? How do i change the recovery image when i dont have access to Terminal, only hboot and current cyanogenmod v1.4 recovery image?

Wow, I knew i liked reading manuals and diagrams but these instructions are really difficult to follow as they jump around so much. Anyway I have followed all successfully but still have a phone hanging on the splash screen.
I googled ezterry's sapphire 32b instructions
As i didn't have the 2.22.27.08 Radio or HBOOT 1.33.0013 or 1.33.0013d I followed ezterry's 32B post here which in turn referred me to this post as I still had my stock 1.33.0007 SPL.
So i copied update.Engineering-SPL-HBOOT-1.33.2009-signed.zip to my card and flashed that, the phone rebooted afterwards so i put it in fastboot usb then followed ezterry's instructions for fastboot flash the recovery, radio and spl as recommended
fastboot flash recovery recovery-RA-sapphire-v1.7.0-cyan.img
fastboot flash radio radio-2.22.27.08.img
fastboot flash hboot hboot-1.33.0013d.img
fastboot reboot-bootloader
this all went well and showed the updated radio and SPL on the hboot screen so I then wiped the system
fastboot erase system -w
fastboot erase boot
and then going back to ezterry's original post followed Step 6 to Flash update-cm-6.1.0-RC1-DS-2708port_S.zip, the Step 7 to Flash GAPPS tiny, the Step 8 Reboot and enjoy my ROM but NO JOY! still hanging on vodafone splash.
Then as per ezterry's Help it won't boot section, ive
fastboot erase system then reflashed update-cm-6.1.0-RC1-DS-2708port_S.zip - still hung
fastboot erase system -w then reflashed update-cm-6.1.0-RC1-DS-2708port_S.zip - still hung
fastboot erase system -w then flashed cyanogenmod's 6.1 stable ROm update-cm-6.1.0-DS-signed.zip - still hung
At least now i have the 1.70 AMON-RA recovery as recommended in the cyanogenmod 32b instructions so i am feeling more comfortable about it all but haven't progressed very much.
One thing to note that I can remember for the beginning is the original instructions to root mentioned to downgrade to 1.5. I remembered trying that and it said some like incompatible image which I assumed was because i was already running 1.5 as stock, but as I've got this far I'm guessing it didn't matter as it appears i do in fact have root.
just ran fastboot commander v1.51 again and enclose the output showing updated SPL and radio

Hello All,
I have been trying for the past few hours to root my HTC Magic 32B (Vodafone UK) and flash Cyanogen to get me some android 2.2!
The phone was on Android 1.6 before i started the process. I have since managed to roll it back to the vulnerable 1.5 version using a goldcard and sapping.zip
I have also managed to push RA-sapphire-v1.7.0H onto the phone.
Now every time i wipe and then flash any of the cyanogen ROMs using the recovery mode, it hangs at the Vodafone screen when booting. Now I had a look around and there were suggestions of trying a different ROM. I tried this and get the same result every time. I have installed 4 different versions of Cyanogen as well as numerous other ROMS.
An interesting point, I have a magic 32b and yet when trying to push the 'G' version of the recovery-RA file, the phone does not turn up under 'adb devices' but when pushing the H version, the phone responds as it should and loads the correct recovery file. I have tried both 32A and 32B ROMs to no avail they both still lock up at the Vodafone splash screen
I can restore to 1.5 without any problems, but I dont want to be stuck on this version of Android
A little info about the phone:

Many thanks in advance for any help you can provide!
There is guide on wiki.cyanogen you must be ona 1.5 version just read whole guide and it will be a success
If you have RA -h recovery working use it to flash hboot 1.33.2009
Then boot into fastboot and issue
Code:
fastboot erase system -w
fastboot erase boot
Here you can either boot onto recovery and flash the ebi1 version of cm. (Yes historical for 32a but seems your newer rom is using the 32a radio)
Or install a 2.x radio via fastboot (you must not flash it from recovery or you will brick your phone)
Last I checked cm wiki deals with 32a radios on 32b devices badly

1) You see the last "H" in the first line of your info?
That means you need to use H-recovery and not G-recovery!!!
First problem solved....
2) You see the radio version 3.22.20.17?
Thats is only for 32A boards.. be lucky that you did not brick your device..
You need this radio and only this radio: 2.22.19.26I
But there is something wrong with combination of the info you wrote..
All 32B devices have G as the last letter in the first line of thire spl..
Are you sure that what you wrote is correct?
To solve this, flash back your stock version... use RUU or whatever... No sappimg or goldcard...
Just bring back the phone to where is was when you got it from the shop.
Then follow this guide made by me:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=756942
it will root you device in 5 mins... and for 5 min extra you get custom recovery and engineer spl( <-optionel)... FULL CONTROL OF DEVICE, the right way!

This is FUD .. thats why its not bricked.
3.x = EBI1 (The -h recovery [magic] and -r recovery [dream*] is EBI1)
2.x = EBI0 (The -g recovery [magic] and default recovery [dream*] is EBI0)
* Please don't install the dream recovery on the magic it won't work its missing a config file for sapphire
both magic 32a/32b can run both
HOWEVER you must have the correct kernel to boot the device and if you have a 3.x radio and flash a radio from recovery you will brick since your current recovery can't boot after the flash.
Easiest is as I said install the engineering SPL that also supports both radios and fastboot yourself a stable system.
(the only reason its not booting with the EBI1 magic32a rom now is probably its not being properly wiped)
As far as using fastboot to restore a 2.x radio and -G recovery:
32A devices (ignoring the fender for the moment) will not be able to use all their memory on a 2.x radio
32B devices run the same on both radios; however more roms assume you have a 2.x radio.
If you go to cyanogens website, the EBI1 kernel should be available in the downloads. Just reflash the 5.0.8.zip, then flash the EBI1.zip, and then GAPPS.

Hello.
I have a Htc Vodafone Magic, de version.
A few days ago i rooted and install cyanogen 5.0.7 and the i've upgraded to 5.0.8.
I used titanium backup, made a backup, and then i need it to restore. After that i couldn't use the phone.
Then i inserted the goldcard made it earlyer, where i had the rom, and update it.
It was a rom 5.0.7 with no app and no android market, and no root.
Now started in fast boot (vol down + power) and i have :

I used the link [How-To] Root and un-root the T-Mobile myTouch 3G
to revert to 32b since i so that i have 32b eng s-off H and i thought that is the problem.
i used this commands
fastboot flash radio radio.img

fastboot erase boot
fastboot erase recovery
It did not work.
No the phone starts and locks on the image with HTC MAGIC.
Thank you for your help.

No the phone starts and locks on the image with HTC MAGIC.
when the phone stats with usb in it appears fastboot on a red background.
And i cannot use adb commands.
It is bricked?
the fastboot option works. i send recovery-RA-sapphire-v1.7.0G thru fastboot and the message was okay.
I think you can download radio 2.22.23.02 as zip file, put it on root of memory card, boot to recovery mode, apply this zip. Everything will be OK.
I flashed it 2 days ago for udating for my Magic radio version from 2.22.19.26I.
You can find the file on this room or I will attach it later.
thank.

sir how can i fix that ive searched high and low, if i try to change radio using ruu the screen blacks out if through fastboot verify error 12
Well... you need a compatible spl before you can change the spl/radio combo.
To do that, i need your software version... run this code:
Code:
fastboot getvar version-main
We can take from there :0)
Just don't flash or mess around your OS... we may need it to flash a different misc partition to change the software version... more on that later

Hey guys,

Radio-2.22.23.02
I'm pretty new to this game but I just installed Rushness' Frosense 0.9 on my Magic and it has been a MASSIVE improvement over CM 6.1 which came pre-installed on my phone that I ebay'd from Hong Kong. 6.1 was so slow it was unuseable.
Anyway, I would like to update my Radio/SPL to the latest version. I've done a lot of searching but have run into a few problems, mostly understanding lingo.
I have Radio: 2.22.27.08 & SPL: 1.33.0013d downloaded (I assume these are the ones I want) and I have backed up my SD card to PC. I figured the process would be the same as flashing the Frosense ROM, enter clockwork mod, hit clockwork recovery, hit "flash alternative recovery", power off, home + power, nand backup, wipe, flash radio, flash SPL, flash Frosense again. However after I "flash alternative recovery" and power off, pressing Home + Power just takes me to the MyTouch screen where it freezes. If I pull battery and power on as usual phone works ok. I decided to try and partition my SD through CWM (wasn't sure if this was necessary) but I'm not sure if the partition worked, phone started to reboot then froze on MyTouch screen again.
I'm assuming I'm doing something incorrectly. Sorry if I seem as "fresh" as I am, but I'm keen to learn and would be appreciative of some easy to understand steps if someone wouldn't mind.
Thanks,
See my guide found in my signature.
Just skip the rooting part if you already rooted.
Flash the recovery and continue with the eng spl.
Once you have the eng spl, you should do the following:
1)Download fastboot commander from my signature and reboot into fastboot
2)Flash the new radio
4)If it goes well, flash the new spl
5)If it goes well, restart into recovery and flash your rom. Remember it must have a compatible kernel.
If any step fails, STOP and post here.

Here is some insight from my recent experience. I am new at this.
Started with:

Radio-2.22.19.26I
Version 1.5
Stepped to:

Then installed Amon Ra Recovery
Then BIG Step to:
Sapphire Pvt32 Dev s-on g
Hboot-1.33.3013d
CPLD-10
Radio-2.22.27.08
Version 2.3.5
Keys to success:
1. Get used to searching for what you need then READ as much as you can on Recovery, Radio and SPL(hboot) prior to starting any of the changes.
Especially helpful:
(Newbie resources: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=794445)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/HTC_Sapphire_Hacking
(Magic SPL) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=529019
(2708 Radio) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=831139
2. When comfortable with how to set up Android SDK, root, installing custom recovery, fastboot and adb, you are ready to start:
3. Find an Eng S-off SPL(I used 1.33.2005) so you can fastboot flash:
fastboot flash boot [c:/boot.img]
(Magic SPL) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=529019
4. Then flash amon ra recovery once then test (press/hold home + power....)
Search in XDA for this thread. fastboot flash recovery [c:/recovery.img]
5. fastboot flash new radio! (I tried using Amon Ra recovery radio.zip to install new radio but it stuck on unbox screen) After 40 min. I freaked out, pulled battery and luckily no damage/brick.
6. adb push your ROM of choice to /sdcard/
I just followed these steps by jeff72k. Note that these instructions are on the G1 forum but G1 is same as HTC Magic/Sapphire 32B. This worked very well especially for step-by-step through the partition setup for Ginger Yoshi which is working GREAT!

Are you actually flashing the recovery, or just booting it? Try fastboot flash instead of boot.
Also you have the 3.22 radio, so you have to either change it, or use an ebi1 kernel. I would recommended finding ezterrys guide to update to 2.22.28.25 radio and 1.33.0013d spl

Several issues there... your flashing an old version of ra for the 3.22 radio to the system partition. You need to do this:

And you need the G version of amon_ra recovery.
and you need to get back to an eng spl to do that...

RADIO
The new froyo OTA for the Fender/MT2.1 is RADIO-2.22.28.25 This is the same 2.22.28.25 that was pushed to the 32B phones.
If you have a rooted phone and wish to upgrade you can use the safe zip file I've provided before:
update_2.22.28.25_S.zip // mirror
md5: 2e384ab42da375458fdb135063b7536b
This will verify your system can safely install the new radio and ask you to install it.
Note: please ensure you have a backup before flashing this radio sometimes is known for some wacky things on first boot until you can get into the system and verify the clock is set correctly.
HBOOT
The new 32b HBOOT is the one you have always been using 1.33.0013
I've more recently have made a hacked version 1.33.0013d primarily for the Dream to have a larger /system size; However currently I also recommend it for 32b magic/sapphire users due to its reduced restrictions on flashing NBH files, as well as access to fastboot erase.
Since I don't think there is any nbh file safe to flash on the fender/MT1.2 the benefits of installing 1.33.0013d seem minimal on your phone.. however for advanced users, it will unlock fastboot erase. (useful for swapping roms; however most people can just use Super Wipe)
If you do wish to update to this I have a special update.zip to migrate from 1.33.0013 -> 1.33.0013d

how do i flash these?
BTW i appreciate all you help and support and if i figure it out, I will put together a detailed set of instructions for others that encounter this specific issue.
You have to get an Eng spl. Probably by flashing a sappimg with one. I'm on my phone and am too lazy to find one for you.
After that just flash recovery, radio, and hboot like ezterrys thread says.
fastboot flash hboot hboot.img (1.33.0013 or 1.33.0013d hboot)
fastboot flash radio radio.img ( 2.22.27.08 or 2.22.28.25)
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
fastboot reboot-bootloader
I'm pretty sure those commands are right, but they are from memory and could be spelled wrong or be in the wrong order.

How does one tell if they have the ENG SPL?
Do i have to do it again or can i just flash the hboot and radio and recovery?
Fastboot info
