just an idea - if there is no "backward compability" for WM6,5 applications on WP7, then - from technical point of view - if anyone can install/move/copy the whole WM6,5 from HTC HD/HD2 to HTC HD7 or any of WP7 phones? I mean, are there any "hardwarish objections" for such operation?
The incompatibility issues alone and work required to do this would be immense
Also posted in wrong forum. All queries should be directed to General Forum which I've now moved it to
This is kinda funny, but I would love to see older OS(WM 6.1/6.5) on newer phones.
Why do we have to move to Windows Phone OS? We’re going from "pocket PC's" to "Smart Phones". That is a step backwards. I’ve got my HTC diamond 2 running perfect just want a faster phone, with HD Video cam. When I had a Samsung Omnia, I fixed all its problems by installing a moded HTC WM6.5 rom, I want a new HTC now, but hate WP7! I got into Xda's cos you can make um run how you want, WP7 is like why I hate the IPhone. I would love to get the HTC 7 Pro if I can just keep the OS I’m using on my HTC Diamond 2, its perfect now. I can’t be the only one that feels, windows phone is just windows mobile Basic.
Pleases give us our full OS back! or how's this. A choice of OS
Windows Phone X.X User
and
Windows Mobile X.X Pro
Does that make it less confusing? I really do want to know of a good 6.5 rom for the HD7 or 7 Pro are available. Thank you
P.s. what are non-phone PDA's going to run on? Is wm6.5 the last OS ever?
Windows phone 7 is a sh*t transition from windows mobile to full fledged operating system like Windows 7. WP7 sucks big time, no productivity for me.
It is all true... I'm totaly disapointed with my HT7 because of the WP7..
I need WM6.5 or at last Android on it...
Some one help us!!!
There are no devs to do this. They lack time, knowledge, drivers, blah blah.
We give them money, they won't do a sh**
Simply said, there is no community like it was few years ago. Shame.
that might be true, but nobody forced you to buy a device with an os, that you don't like, if you simply wanted to give different OSs a try, your best choice would have been a HD2, which handles wm6.5, 6.5.x, android, wp7, ubuntu, windows 95, 98 and meego. that way, if you are unsatisfied with either OS, you still have plenty of others to give a try.
I'm not a programmer, so I’m sorry if this is impossible for something I’ve not see. But couldn't someone make a rom file that you copy directly onto the inbuilt SD micro card. Of course this will mean hard resetting the phone it will install from the inbuilt Rom copy of WP7. But you just pop the card in a pc, maybe partition it 512MB program storage. And the other 14.5MB storage card (after lost formatting space.) I though the HD2 and HD7 are almost the same Xda device. Please PDA WinMobo OS's cant die! It does the most
All I want is Smartphone’s that work how I want, not how I’m told to use um.
Losing this is stepping back in time.

Enabling WM6.5 on HD7
Hi Guys,
I have been a PDA user and in particular a a windows mobile user for 7-8 years now. I am a total fan of modified ROMs and hats off to all those developers who have been developing modified ROMs on many various devices for many years now, I extend my appreciation and gratitude now. I have also been an xda-developers member for many years now, and have read many many posts and forum topics, so please disregard the post count as I didn't need to post in many cases.
I recently graduated; though I am a communications engineering graduate I did do embedded systems in my last year. Having said that, I am now in a position to start playing around with such devices and possibly do some development work.
I, like the people on this thread have mentioned, do not like WP7, the the fact that you cannot directly sync with outlook, and even worse, HD7 Pro has hardware keyboard that is completely useless and WP7 doesn't even go in to landscape mode unless typing up messages.
On the other hand, even though I appreciate Android, I do not like it either for various reasons I'd rather not delve in to. I am a fan of hardware keyboards, therefore I also had in my mind the possibility of porting WM6.5 to Desire Z though I have not even researched the feasibility of it yet.
Therefore, I announce to my fellow xda-developers.com users and readers of my intentions to begin work on porting WM6.5 to HD7. Though I do not have any experience or knowledge on the venture. The start will be a slow process and request the patience of everyone.
Having said that I would need a mentor when I run in to problems and when I need help. I would appreciate it if one of the more experienced developers here could express their willingness to help when needed I would be really grateful.
Having said that, those with experience, is there a good link you could give me where I could start reading up on what I need to learn about the device and the OS in question?
I presume I would need to know the specific system components of the HD7 and HD2, what components are identical, similar and different? I believe that the architecture is similar if not identical? Thanks.
Regards
Hi all, im new here to start join this site, because i just bought HTC HD2 started to use wm6.5, this site lot of information help me to choose the collect phone model before i buy it, before i was thinking of which OS is the best & use full for me, WM6.5? WP7? or Android? i need to choose the OS can support GMXT GPS its important for me travel lot, both of them WP7 & Android cant make it, so i choose HD2, i was bought 3 days ago in Vietnam HCMC, try to find best price in town, almost every sold out! get from website information for used HD2, almost sold out too, until 7th shop i get it, used but look new but is T mobile HD2, USD370 deal..
WP7 is a god send of an OS, I still use my WM oh my HD and ill come to that in a sec, but WP7 is actually very good, you do need to work with it for a while, but once you get used to it its amazing.
Now, WM 6.x is a beast of an OS, there is nothing out there quite like it, I believe in the next installment of MAGLDR they are looking to allow WM to be installed via magldr, this may open the way to allow SD/RAM builds of WM to run on a HD2 meaning, WP7, WM6.5 and android could all potentially be bootable at the same time
The differences between the HD2 and the HD7 are notable, its not a straight copy, unfortunately there is a big lack of intrest in WM so i would keep your eyes on android coming to the HD7, that will use something similar to MAGLDR and if thats the case you may find WM is installable as well.
DOnt hold your breath tho, we've been waiting for a new MAGLDR version for several months now and as i said, there are differences so there may well be serious driver related issues, which ironically is the stumbling block of WM! Had HTC and QC not shafted us with no driver support for the WM6.5 OS then it would actually be a modern day OS contender.

And have loved being along for the ride towards the superphones WP8. Miss MyMobiler and would be nice if you could run WM6.5 in a virtual environment on an unlocked device. Then I could still play with what I suppose are now legacy apps or .cab's as we used to know um. phone and sms wouldn't need to be in the V-OS rom as WM wasn't originally made for it just drop um. And V-drives would just appear as the app size as far as wp7 thinks just a dream/idea. I know that wouldn't be easy. but if anyone fancied the challenge advantage is it would work on all WP7> handsets
Windows Phone 7.5 is good now. If you tried it at the beginning and was thinking it was the windows iPhone. Thank god it's not!! It is diff to WM6.x but worth getting used to

I would still like to see wm6.5 ported over along with wp8 since technically we have an sd card and we can have nfc sim cards.
There is a windows mobile emulator to wp7

and here is one that maybe can be ported: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=411154

Hi guys,
I appreciate most of the things I'm going to ask have some explanation somewhere already on the forum, but I'm not entirely confident I know my way around well enough to get to where i want with my HD2.
So first off, I have a UK HD2, with HSPL2 and a couple month old WM energy rom flashed. I am running Android Froyo from my SD card, and i find myself using it most of the time. Because of this it seems sensible to get Android on my NAND and stop using WM. However I'm having some problems with my phone and I'm not sure if some may be caused by android.
Firstly the battery is lasting less than a day on a full charge without using any power craving features like wifi, gps or even a constant data connection. My phone is less than a year old, so hopefully HTC will issue me with a replacement [PENDING].
Secondly, when I do want to use the data connection I find I rarely get one where I normally would on WM.
Finally, I regularly get process terminated messages while running android from boot until the inevitable low-battery shutdown. (fairly sure this is purely android)
So, bearing this in mind, I would like to have a newer (preferably Gingerbread) build of android running from my NAND, presumably requiring MAGLDR. Would this APN settings thing, and 'rooting' I've read about recently help with these problems? Also I can't find anything about gingerbread with sense and assume this is because there have been no HTC gingerbread devices yet; is this the case? If so would you recommend Froyo with sense or gingerbread without? (personally I'm not keen on the curved sense home menu at the bottom, but i like the other features of sense)
A final thing to further complicate the situation is that I'd REALLY like to have a play with WP7, and last i read it had been ported and was running without LIVE services (making it practically useless), but then not too long ago a hack to make it pretend to be a HD7 was made allowing this. Is this a proper solution which makes the whole phone like a WP7 device (with the few performance niggles here and there) or is it like a demo or a shell of a phone which isn't really usable? The 'average user' review on the front page was posted before this LIVE hack, so i'm not sure it takes it into account.
So in summary, if I could get some guidance with the best choices in having Android NAND (and possibly WP7 on dual boot) covering what preparation and fixes I will need to apply it would be much appreciated. Possibly a list of tutorials I should follow in order, or even something more customised to my situation. Alternatively, if there is a guide covering all this I haven't found, that would be great!
As far as getting NAND working correctly check out this tutorial
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=893948
And dual booting wp7 and android
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=913815
However if you dual boot wp7 would be the main os and you'll still be booting android from sd and as far as fixes and tweaks most of the time it depends which build your using I find that most of the time what works doesn't always work for others

The battery issue is definitely an Android issue and I would recommend using a Froyo based Android build, which also has less problems with data connections. Unfortunately to say is that you might expect some problems using either Android or WP7 on the HD2, because it's still a WnMO device, although it can handle other OS's as well.

Well I'm using Froyo now, and I have all these problems, and I think the battery problem currently exists on both WM and android, so I'm relatively convinced it's the battery.

Well, I'm not really convinced that it's your battery. Check your SD Card and my advice would be: shut down device - remove SD Card - insert in to PC - backup you data to PC - do a slow format with PC - after formatting with PC, reinsert SD Card in device and power up - format SD Card with the device's SD formatting tool (windows - tools - SD Formatting tool). Power off device, remove SD Card and insert into PC and restore your data. Reinsert after that your SD Card in to device and power up again and see what your battery does. Should be much better.

OK, thanks, I will try it and get back to you, but this isn't the main point of my question, and I don't want the subject veering off on a tangent
Personally I don't think wp7 is worth it right now. The devs are doing great work on it but as of right now as a main OS I think because of the limitations and all the hoops and hurdles you have to go through for it. I'm sticking with NAND personally.

you're right about that, but this can solve most of your battery problems.
Regarding WP7 on HD2: see reaction of SpiderVenom
Regarding Android on the HD2: well the NAND version is much better than the SD card one, but it's and will be a personal choice.
i personaly stick to WinMo 6.5.5 with Artemis ROM on it.

wp7 on hd2 is as useful as it is on any native wp7 device...actually, even better than any native device, because you can dual boot with a good android build off sd card...i would suggest you first try the sd card gingerbread ram version from mdj and superram froyo from darkstone..to checkout the differences. i personally use mdj desire hd 4.6 on sd card (it cannot be replaced by any non-sense build..tried them all, but had to come back to it)and wp7 on nand...
as for the battery, try the sd card format as described above.
also..try this....confirmed to work...but no one knows why it works.. charge your phone for 8 hrs (even though it says 100%)...then switch off phone...charge for 1hr..then switch on and charge for 1hr..........you will see a gross difference in battery

I agree completely with SpiderVenom.
Right now, you do have some hoop jumping to go through in order to get wp7 working correctly.
I'm also using MDJ's NAND Gingerbread install with zero issues and excellent battery life. It's also nice that all of the purchased android apps are usable on both of my android devices. (I have an Archos 5IT.)
Thanks for all your comments, I'm getting the impression (from SpideVenom and apallohadas) that getting WP7 going is troublesome, I would be interested to hear from people who have already jumped the necessary hoops (pakure?) to see if they think it's worth the effort. I don't mind jumping hoops as long as I only have to do it once (when I install).

I assume these are 'RAM' builds, and I guess they're somehow better than plain SD versions? Still not sure about the whole Gingerbread w/o Sense vs Froyo with Sense situation. Do others agree with these suggestions?

the ram versions are faster even than nand android
well, you wont get to know, unless you try wp7 for yourself..anyway, you can always fall back to wm6.5/android..its all one flash away.
I have been trying a NAND gingerbread build and it's running a lot better than froyo was off my SD, and the battery drain is reduced too.
However I'm finding android without sense intolerable. So I think I need to switch back to a froyo build (unless anyone knows of a Gingerbread build with sense).
I was wondering what's the best way of switching; Is there any way of keeping applications in tact? If not, is it possible to backup my existing NAND contents to SD card so I can flash it back if need be?
Also, is Android RAM ACTUALLY better/faster than NAND, and would it be worth having a WP7 NAND and Android from SD on RAM?
Finally, can anyone recommend a Froyo Sense RAM build? I find it very difficult to filter through the forum threads picking out the one that's right for me. I found a site which gives VERY brief overviews of the current builds, but it doesn't cover stuff like what's not working etc and not all the associated forum threads do.
isnt it a matter of personal choice...what may suit me the best may not be good for others...so its just keep trying till u figure which one is the best for yourself
Some things you should concider to think about before flash WP 7 !
This is just some of WP7 dissapointments which I experianced and why to revert back to WM 6.5 :
1. Activation stuff from MS ( I do not wont and do not need to "activate" to somebody my allready expensive HD2 device). As I read on net,Microsoft will have new activation policy in next WP7 phone update,so,nether WP7 modded ROM would not be safe to install.
2. Navigation looks like that children make it..Navigon is far primitive compared to Igo Primo.Lacks and mistakes are everywhere throughout it,very slow, not precise,no way to customise it...etc.etc.
3. Every kind of application has to be signed before any use or installation.
4. Zune software and bunch of unneccessery "addons" which comes in so called "Windows developer tools" to run from PC.You need to install Microsoft Expression,Zune,Microsoft games for marketplace,Microsoft Silverlight,3,4 SDKs,Visual studio Express..etc.etc.etc
5. Lack of easy access to documents,PDFs,files.Device become "Iphon-ised" and very "dummy".So,expensive device become dummy device.
6. Every kind of sync and use needs various hacks and registry modds.
7. Camera images looks like made by cheap 20$ idiot cameras.
8. No support for flash videos in browser. So,no Youtube.
9. Lack of "real" mighty programs....(I presume that it will be partialy fixed as time goes by)
10. No sharing SD cards between devices...
etc...etc...etc...
If you have to add something that I forget, please do and help to other users who are in doubt to flash WP7 or not.

To be honest, first time I've ran WP7 I thought this is a beta1 version. I haven't seen so many bugs and design flaws in any other mobile OS. It's a shame.
You realize half your complaints have to do with you running WP7 on a non WP7 device?
^^what he said
but i'm still dealing with it and waiting for the next update this Feb like MS announced
I am sure you are a frustrate buyer of an android phone , because i dont understand how the f. you compare a SO with some months in the market with winmo 6.5 or android or iphone who is established in the smartfone market years ago. Did you forget the begins of this " spectacularry " IPHONE or Android phones, and so manny bugs they have ????
Be patient my friend. The igo8 , primo, or sygic. or something gps about you talk have about 3-4 years acomodated in wm, and wm exist a long time ago.
Sorry but you cant see the future my friend .

1. You will have activation issues when you try to run the OS on a non-supported phone. You ventured into it, so you have to deal with it.
2. For a 4 month old platform, WP7 is reasonably stable and bug free. Nothing, compared to the number of issues I had with my iPhone 2G.
3. Isn't that a good thing for a consumer-oriented device?
4. Zune, yes. Windows Dev Tools? NO. You have to deal with it because you want to unlock and sideload apps. That isn't a fault of WP7.
5. What is meant by "easy access"? I had been able to download a 1000+ page PDF doc and open in Adobe reader.
6. NO. Registry is not for you. If it was, MS would have built in a registry editor in WP7.
7. The pics I clicked were no different than the ones I clicked with Android. Yes, the shutter sound is irritating.
8. There is a YouTube app. No, two. One from HTC too.
9. I presume that it would be "fully" fixed as time goes by.
10. How many times would you want to use a $10 SD card in shared mode?
was going to write all that ^^ said but i dont think i could have done it any better.

WP7 is VERY good for the first release of a new OS. I was seriously amazed by it. Can't wait for updates with multitasking and new features, and for when the homebrew community delves deeper in and we figure out more ways of customizing it.
Virtually all "lacks" of WP7 were officially known from the very beginning.
A disappointment is nothing else but a logical consequence if you start trying the new OS if you think it should have been "perfect" from scratch.
There are quite a few buyers of native WP7 devices with the same attitude, that´s something I completely don´t understand.
Considering the flawless port of WP7 to HD2, my first thoughts after installing WP7 were quite different: I never had any first release (of whatever OS on any smartphone I ever owned) which was even close to the smoothness and bugless functionality of WP7 on HD2. Yes, the camera app function is crappy, but then again, there is already an alternative solution from the devs.
We should be happy that thanks to devs, it was (and is) possible to run a trial on our current hardware for free - there is no other device on the market which has the power to offer the same.
I guess quite a few users will go for a native WP7 device sometime in the future, others will decide for Android, or iOS, whatever. But the good thing is, you can do it having had the chance to test over weeks or months.
And that´s the good thing about HD2: It will be my electronic companion for quite a few more months, most probably for a total of 2 years. No other smartphone was good for me for so much time ever before. My guess is that for the rest of the time, I will be doing more trials with Android and WP7, while WM 6.5 is a nice fallback solution.
Oh, and btw, Navigon Select runs nicely here. It is a basic version. The full one will only come during this summer, I was told by them.

Yes,and I realise that HD2 is faster on WP7 than HD7
I think MS did a really good job with WP7.
Just think about how iOS and Android behaved first year on the market ?!?
I´m a strong beliver of Android (even a mod on forums), but WP7 really is interesting

But it doesn't run as good on the HD2... touchscreen doesn't work as well on hd2. Once the registry is known more and native devices start getting custom roms, it'll probably run faster on native phones.

that's such a weak argument, is virtually the same thing.
I have not experienced anything on my HD2 that an HD7 wouldn't do exactly the same except at times multi-touch goes weird. Any of the custom ROMs have most issues solved and have the registry edits cooked in, so all you have to do is flash and enter your activation code, just as if you hard-reset a native WP7 device.
WP7 is nice and smooth and I like it and I'm very happy to be able to use it on my phone, but till Mango drops it does have some issues that are OS-wide that prevent me from using it as a total daily without booting into Android from SD at times. That's not a knock though, I'm amazed MS put together a product like this for a first release. After the Mango update we will have more apps, more games, more custom ROMs with probably ability to totally change the UI if we want.
and @ OPs opinion that:
Activation stuff from MS ( I do not wont and do not need to "activate" to somebody my allready expensive HD2 device). As I read on net,Microsoft will have new activation policy in next WP7 phone update,so,nether WP7 modded ROM would not be safe to install.
Click to collapse
what the hell does that even mean? you provide no evidence to this, just some nebulous claim that you "read on net." We all have activation keys and MS has no idea who has an HD7 or an HD2, so it's not like they can just stop allowing access to the Marketplace. They have been totally cool about giving us keys, but for some arbitrary reason will change that after an update? The HD2 crowd are buying apps and hyping up the OS, with seemingly no security issues at all, I haven't seen any pirated apps...
most of the OP's points are pretty worthless and flashing any of the custom ROMs eliminate any reg hacks or unlocking or anything.

Completley agree, I was going to reply to OP and rip apart everything he has ignorantly moeaned abo9ut but everything has pretty much been said already.
I must admit im a firm follower of WM6.5 and i was very reluctant to change to WM7. Ive had WM7 on my HD2 now for 2 weeks and im really starting to get into it alot more. Now that i have activated marketplace with Microsoft (which by the way was an absolute piece of piss) ive got pretty much all the apps that i used on WM6.5 apart from my Garmin XT which i miss, but im sure someone in the coming months will sort it out. You should re-flash it back to your phone, Activate it and get used to syncing with Zune. You will get into it fella. Its mint.
Hi all!
I am new on this forum and I do not know it really good, so I like to ask some questions here (hope someone will not be angry if I missed right thread for this).
1) I think I will buy HTC HD2, so for first what do you think? Is it still good phone or not? I know that Desire HD is probably better, but it is too expensive for my pocket.
2) How is with Windows Mobile 6.5, are they really bad as some people say? Is here enough apps for them etc...
3) Which OS do you guys suggest to me? WM 6.5, WP 7 or Android 2.2?
I just want phone and OS which will work smooth, detect every touch, work with minimize laggs and crashes etc. And for me it is also important that the phone would not be for trash over e.g. 2 years, because of new apps etc. And I want a lot of apps and things like that for it.
Hope you will understand my "problems", and sorry for bad English.
I would be really gratefull for any help. Thanks alot!
Best regards,
Sam.

my thoughts...
1) I think I will buy HTC HD2, so for first what do you think? Is it still good phone or not? I know that Desire HD is probably better, but it is too expensive for my pocket.
-> the hd2 is definitely a beast of a phone as it's the most versatile and "hackable" unit around. you have wm6.5 to start with and from there you can load other operating systems on it like android, w7, etc. the desire is also quite a beast and it's a dedicated android device that's at the top of it's game. if you have budget constraints, you're off to a good start with the hd2
2) How is with Windows Mobile 6.5, are they really bad as some people say? Is here enough apps for them etc...
-> my opinion, wm6.5 was/is NOT bad. i will be honest in saying that i'm running android on my hd2 but i don't see myself jumping to w7. 6.5 is as smooth as it can be and i've made it a point to keep my old windows applications that are compatible with 6.5. yes, android has TONS of apps but there are some small ones which are still best run with 6.5 (for the moment). a lot of members here still run 6.5 and on occasion i revert back to it as well. despite my running android like 90% of the time, 6.5 is still one of the best in my opinion
3) Which OS do you guys suggest to me? WM 6.5, WP 7 or Android 2.2?
-> well, when you get a hd2 you immediately get exposed to 6.5. my suggestion, have a go with it first and get the full experience. once you're satisfied, load android and again have a go. the beauty about android for the hd2 is you can launch it from your microsd card. so if your unit crashes (and that's IF), you can always restart windows and launch android. if you're feeling a bid of adventure, you could load up win7 on it as well. i have read that many members don't like what they've experienced with w7 (in the hd2). in my opinion, the best way is to try w7 on a purely dedicated device (like a htc mozart). if you like it, then try it out for the hd2.
I just want phone and OS which will work smooth, detect every touch, work with minimize laggs and crashes etc. And for me it is also important that the phone would not be for trash over e.g. 2 years, because of new apps etc. And I want a lot of apps and things like that for it
-> let's face it, all operating systems have their own advantages and disadvantages. my wife has an iphone and i like it as well. but i'm into windows and android because it's what i like using....not because i think they're better than the iphone or w7. if you'r after a phone that will last for the next 2 years, then the hd2 should meet your requirements. wm6.5 offers tons of apps that'll enhance your experience. android is a whole new platform that is definitely worth running. and in 2 years? i'm pretty sure that the developers here in the forum would have definitely perfected loading other os's into the hd2 (w7, meego, etc...heck i'll throw in the ios as well)

That was a very good reply. I'm currently bidding on an HD2. I have an iPhone 4, but am so bored with it. It's jailbroken to add themes right now.
My friend has an HD2 w/Windows and Android. I think that is way cool. I love to mod stuff so an iPhone for me just doesn't cut it. Although, there are a lot of good developers and applications on Cydia repositories. Anyone know if it's possible to load a mobile version of Backtrack? I see Ubuntu has been done, yes? I'm just wanting some hacking tools for pen testing. A little off topic, but...
EDIT: Anyway you should edit your title to comply with the forum rules. I just read it myself.
Look forward to this proposed HTC Pyramid, also the LG Optimus 2X looks like a cracking phone as well.

Robson I do not know how to thank you enough for this reply.
Now I know I will buy it definitely. First I will give a try WM 6.5 then Android 2.2 and maybe WP 7 too. Then I will choose.
So on Froyo phone works smooth, like Desire HD? I saw on WP 7 is phone really fast, but it's home screen looks so ugly for me. Hope developers will make some ROMs or skins, which will look like Android.
Thank you very much again!
Regards.
you're welcome, mate. once you get your unit fiddle around with it in wm6.5 first. don't jump to android just yet. once you're done with 6.5, get into android and i'm pretty sure you'll notice the difference in the interface. a few things to consider for the future:
- radio and rom upgrade (for wm6.5). if you do upgrade, make sure you read the threads first as you don't want to end up with a bricked phone
- android, there are lots of builds you can try and they're quite easy to do. you might notice the massive battery drain when you first try android out. but after fiddling and tweaking you'll get the right settings which will give you the best battery output
- w7, make sure you read the threads as it can be a little tricky
by the way, are you getting a t-mobile or the european version?
cheers
1)If you don't have the budget for a desire hd, get a desire then. It's better at android than the HD2. Meaning it will run smoother, faster, and all it's functions work.
Plus if you're horrible at tech stuff, eg READING! xD Then I plead for you to stay away from this phone, another thread made on questions answered a million times is not needed here. Especially this same one you posted here, sorry.
The HD2 is a good phone, but it isn't made for the half hearted. People who aren't ready to be devoted to their device should stay away from the HD2.
2)winmo isn't bad. In terms of functionality/efficiency, you could say it is ahead in some areas, and behind in others to other OSes. Apps is something you can check on your own, they have a marketplace.
3)I'm not you so i wouldn't know. But judging from my impression of you, I would say WP7 would be your best bet, since you seem like the type of person to get overwhelmed over HD2's modding. It's fast, smooth, and it's just like the iOS, simple! Great for you!

Basically, he said you are a moron. Anyway so...no just kidding dude I'm the same way, lol. Simple works for me. However, I would like to complicate things sometimes by modding. Jailbreaking is probably elementry school compared to doing Android and Windows mods which is like PhD...
@ Kailkti, Can't he have Windows 7, but still mod other OS's not interfering with his main one. So, basically he can mod break junk and then at least load up a working OS? I guess it depends on the mod, huh?
Of course he can, he can load any of the available OSes, that the devs have ported to this device, and still revert back to the WP7. However, his aim is not to mod, his aim is just something that works. Now clearly the hd2 isn't marketed to those kinds of people, nor is android. The only OSes made for the types of people who want something that just works, is iOS and WP7. They're so simple, it's baffling that their smartphone OSes. Atleast the iOS falls in that case.
And modding on the HD2 may become overwhelming to him if his attitude is just for something that simply works. Now I'm not saying winmo doesn't work. It works great. But it won't work "great" for you since, again from my impression of you, you prolly want games, and other entertainment stuff from your phone. Now android or iOS, or even WP7 is a better choice than winmo, in such a field.
Hi all.
Today I got my HD2. Man this is a crazy good phone. And I like WM 6.5 too, no bugs, lags etc. I have also already Android on it, but first I must learn WM. I just look for a moment on Android, and it works smooth too.
I am totally happy!

Sounds like you're talking about Android.
make sure your SD card is mounted (in the same menu), also make sure your SD card is formatted FAT32 for now, if you have a card reader use that to reformat the card.
Thank you! I will try to fix this problem.

I've never done this before. To format the SD Card to FAT32 is easy.
1) Buy a SD Card Reader
2) Hook it up to your computer
3) Plug card in
4) Go to my computer
5) right click and select format
6) choose fat32 as the file system
7) done
Of course, they have multi-card readers. Would be better in case you ever get anything else down the line..hmm I may buy one that fits in the cd rom drive bay. I have an empty slot, would be cool and factory looking.

Best choice of phone, I keep looking for a phone that runs android and wp7 and maybe windows mobile, but keep coming back to the hd2, because its the only phone that can run them all.

I have tried WM6.5 and Andriod and returned back to WP7.
Whenever I find a missing function in WP7, I Flash a different OS but then within a day or two I am back to WP7.
Is WP7 Is an addictive OS ?
Do you share my feelings toward WP7 ?
Regards
I've been through several roms on my hd2, WinMo 6.5, 6.5.*, Android, WP7.... Currently running an android rom and I hate it. WP7 was so much more user friendly. Sure android has more apps, but I hate having to sift through several menus to change settings. WP7 is clean and simple. Will probably move back to WP7 once a good NoDo or Mango rom is available.
Its called customising. WP7 is BOOOOOOOORING. Put the settings on your homescreen or find widgets that do the job of the settings you like to change. Its not difficult. Android much more interesting than WP7. Hell, WM6.5 is much more interesting than WP7. I just suppose if you like being told what to do WP7 is for you, whereas if you like to control what you are doing (and the device you own) android is for you. WP7 is boring and not at all addictive at all to me.

I wouldn't quite say WP7 is additive...it's more usable and stable than WM6.5.5 for the HD2 for certain!!!
If you don't like WP7 what the hell are you doing here posting your bull? This is, after all, the WP7 forum and not the Android nor WM6.5 forum.
As for your info, I've spent way too much time fooling around with WM6.5 on the HD2 "customizing", yet never able to get a stable OS nor get anything done on my phone due to it's laggard performance. Go and stay with your Android or WM...keep out of the WP7 forums and leave it to us who enjoy finally being able to use our phones the way it was meant to be used!!!!! You can just stay "down under mate"!
Addictive, yes... But I don't know why...
When I initially saw some youtube vids on wp7 I thought "YUK", how bloody boring and drab... But I've found the simplicity, usability and speed to be what attracts me...
I'll persevere with a shonky wp7 till the end of the year when my contract runs out and I go for a fully fledged wp7 phone...
I'm looking at the LG Optimus 7Q cause I miss my slide out qwerty, but I hope HTC has something similar by then...
Till then its HD2 + WP7 = Win!
I personally like and prefer android why because it has more to offer meaning apps, support, development, features and customization is off the charts!..now ive had my fun with windows 6.5 and im so glad cotulla and the guys where able to unlock the NAND for us and deliver these excellent OS's WindowsPhone7 right off the box was beautiful looking but it does honestly get boring aside from the fact that microsoft decided not include key features that would have made this OS awesome out of the ass lol..such as Multitasking which is something that is essential,a more open sdk/relationship with devs to bring more apps which equals appeal we are living in a time where APPS are what sell the phone basically or maybe thats just what i think..copy and paste feature this is another key thing..that microsoft decided to put off for an unknown reason which im kinda at a lost to understanding, theyre own proprietary software to load music as if we dont live in a fast paced life..not all people have Zune in their PCs i mean this OS is new we cant say much till later maybe in the near future all this will be fixed but many features that were offered in 6.5 were ignored completely only to be put back in later "revisions" Donut/Mango, Sure WP7 has a eye candy catch to it but at the end of the day can you really ask yourself, Does it deliver what we the end user needs?..in my opinion no. as for now ill stay Android
I agree that wp7 has got an addictive pull, I have done a similar thing, one day I will have wp7 only on my hd2, then I think nope I miss windows mobile and revert back to that, then after a day or so, I am convinced the only way to go is Android so nand flash that, then a few days later am back to wp7 believing this is the perfect operating system, only to be starting the while loop again.
My thoughts are we are spoilt for choice with the hd2, because it can run all these operating systems so very well.
My perfect setup, well for the next few days is wp7 with android on sd dual booting.

So I will go on enjoying WM 6.5 and Android over WP7 and you can continue enjoy BORING things. Now rage away "mate."

It was not my intension to cause a fight in this thread, People vary in their likes and dislikes.
All three OS are great, and as THUDUK said, we are spoilt as HD2 can run the three OS well.
All I wanted is to see if other people share my feeelings toward WP7.
At the end thank you all for your opinions , we will continue to to have different opinions about everything in live otherwise companies will close down as people prefer only one product
Best regards
Most addictive, slickest, & cleanest OS, I've ever used! Also the most stable on my HD2. Love it! MUCH better than Android or winmo imo.

I like WP7...
But apps are really slow in loading, scrolling is choppy and slow... (Just look at Facebook app and BoardExpress, other apps are the same but I forgot them because I've been using NANDroid permanently for a few months now.)
And there are a few important apps that are missing in WP7, namely GPS Navigation for my country, Malaysia.
If these issues are ironed out, I would be more than happy to switch to WP7 full time because the UI is just awesome!
