Poor WIFI connection compared to cheap ZTE Blade - Streak 5 General

I bought the Streak 5 recently.
Stock ROM had poor WIFI compared to the ZTE Blade running CM7. I couldn't get a signal in my room compared to a fair signal on the blade.
I've updated to Streakdroid 1.9.1 with 351 baseband but there are no changes to WIFI.
Are there any known fixes or roms which have a better WIFI connection?

+1 for this. Seems that it had Fair <-> disconnect behaviour.
Hope there's a way by changing config. Or else move my house AP for better spots. Just for the sake of this device

why is wifi reception better on stock froyo?

Something I noticed since using stock froyo is that the wifi reception is significantly better than say.. well, the only other rom I've been using is Cyanogen Mod, whether its the nightlies or RC or official release.. Just curious to know what causes that.
Cheers
Its the drivers for Wifi that are used in Froyo Rom are better.
The one's used in 2.1 were "buggy"

Ohh ok. Yeah, I've always wondered what it was.. I mean if you stick a laptop in my room its got 100% reception no matter where you are in my room where as the Cyanogen Mod has poor to low reception on average and the stock froyo has high to full reception. I mean its a big difference.. do you think they will put the better drivers in Cyanogen Mod?
The drivers in stock sense ROMs are HTC proprietary as far as I know, like the FM radio or flash player implementation. That's why the difference

i had tytng 8.3 i thnik and that had the best reception and i flashed then to r9 and from there my phone's wifi doesnt work very well, reverted back to 8.3 but now it is still the same and i use stock android wifi "sercher" duno how is it called and i didnt touch any options in MIUI
so?????????
me too i had tytng 8.3 with miui 4.2 themed and all is perfect wifi conexion etcccc.. i think is beter than the news tytng r9 go back to tytng 8.3
Check if there are the same files in both tytung packages, maybe r9 left something in the system or mybe your issue might be Rom related..
Btw, i use tytungs 8.3 and i dont plan to change it. Since i installed this kernel i am really happy. Battery is lasting almost forever its still on 70-75% after 12 hours of moderate usage, this is really great for me.

[Q] wifi signal not strong cm7

anyone having issues with their wifi signal not being strong even if you are close to router?
not that big of an issue but it would be great to get it running up to par since i had better signals running the stock froyo.
might be that your internal wifi card got messed up happened to me on the iphone 3gs.
Works awesome for me.

I noticed it too, its one of the reasons I don't use cm7. I have to use wifi calling in my room and the signals sketchy.. its good enough to pick up on sense roms but the signal was rarely strong enough to connect on cm7. Maybe try a different kernel? MiUI is cm7 based and I always got good wifi with tdj's kernel, so maybe you wanna give it a shot.

No wifi problems here...

Rom with good wifi reception?

Using virtuous affinity at the moment and not liking the wifi speed at all (2 signals at a distance of 6 meters?)
I remember using one of the MIUI rom or sense rom which gave really good wifi connection, don't know what's the issue but my sister's I9001 is picking wifi at great distance and not mine + the speed is really slow...
DO you guys have a rom in mind which i can flash for better wifi connection?
EDIT: also some suggestions about runny vs bliss would be very appreciatd since i'm not a big sense user..
You can try RCMix3D, I'm always having 4 bars when near my router and a little less when moving away.
Maybe there is something wrong with the WiFi antenna.
The antenna is located in the cover of the battery.
Take out the cover and clean the metal contacts.
Put it back and see if it made a difference.
It's the 1st thing you should try.
If this doesn't help, check for a radio that matches your model, see also if a matching RIL is needed.
This most probably is a radio issue...flash the correct radio based on your current RIL..
Also think it's a radio problem. Flash the correct one and RILs and averything will be ok.
And for example, if you flash something like Virtuous Quattro or IceColdSandwitch, you may get low bars on the indicator, but it doesn't mean the signal is bad.
I'm running ARHD 6.3.2 with 12.65.60.29U_26.14.04.28_M Radio at the moment.I always have 3 to 4 bars wifi connection even when im in the room next to my office.
The Rom runs smooth and stable without having any problems at all.
Been using rcmix3d for the last couple of months and wifi reception has always been strong

Dont be fooled by the WIFI indicator bars, As i understand it AOSP based ROMs use a different algorithim to display the strength which results in an apparent lowering of the signal strength as long as it connects and works i play little or no attemtion to the bars.
Yes I would say it's a radio issue, unless it's posted as a bug in the ROM by other users. check the forums for the rom, otherwise, flash new radio WITH CORRESPONDING RIL!!

I agree with @ghostofcain, if your wifi is working fine, don't bother too much about the numbers of bars.
I had my best wifi experience with the AndroidRevolution HD 7.0.0 Rom.
maybe you really should bother about your Radio..
using the 12.28b.60.140eP_26.02.03.15_M3 myself.

best way to see the signal strength is this:
*#*#4636#*#*
and then wifi information -> wifi status
there you've got the signal strength in dB wich is a bit more comparable than "i've got only two bars".
good tip using this test-number;
is the RSSI value the wifi signal strength ?
Yes. RSSI stands for Received Signal Strength Indication. Wikipedia has an article about it if you want more information.

dell streak 5 wifi range

I had nexus one which had a pretty good wifi range.. I could access my home network router from pretty far away.. now i am using Dell streak 5 within same home network and I have found that it's wifi range is a lot less than nexus one... why does it happen? any idea? Can we boost wifi range of dell streak 5?
Streak 5 has a wide wifi range especially with MIUI ROMs.
Flash a MIUI ROM and try again, you will see that it has a perfect wifi range.
really let me check it with MIUI .23 version
Please post back if you see a difference using MIUI rom, i'm also interested
i flashed with MIUI .20 version ROM, i am sorry i did not find any difference
To save younall some time.... there's pretty much nothing can be done about the Streaks short wifi range

I have tested stock roms and the other custom roms including cm7; all of the roms have the same wifi range at the same place; they can't find the wifi signal or they find weak signal but at the same place especially MIUI 2.2.17 and 2.3.16 find double strength wifi signal.

i want to know what exactly inside MIUI 2.2.17 and 2.3.16 that made the signal stronger? any mod or script maybe?
so there's a chance for me to use some tweak in mine

Maybe...But i didn't examine this.
Put a bigger aerial on your router, or use a extender
