Hi Guys
I've got a crack in the back of my battery. It's about 1 cm in the corner of the plastic. Is this safe to continue to use?
If not, where can I source a decent replacement.
Thanks for the replies.
LOL. What happened to my phone is happened to someone else too here.
Yeah. I've cracks in the battery, it's 2 cracks near the gold metal.been using it for 2 weeks since it happened, got no problems. Battery use is still the same too. I guess I got the cracks because of removing battery over and over again when the phone's hang.

Possible
This 'could' be unsafe. Not sure. It depends on how stable it is.
My battery has had a crack for a couple of months, and no problems.

I think the Atrix has a year warranty... You can try going to ATT and getting it replaced under warranty...

owww it's sad (
Yeah, that sucks...
A bit of good news, though: Compared to other phones, the Atrix is pretty easy to fix yourself and replace parts. If you are confident enough with your hands, you can try buying just a digitizer and replace it yourself. Looks like there's no soldering needed for that, too.
For reference: http://www.ifixit.com/Teardown/Motorola-Atrix-4G-Teardown/4964/1
Good luck!
Ah Ha! I can use this thread to my advantage haha.
first and foremost, I'm sorry for your digitizer woes. The same thing happened to me a month ago. =(
Secondly, it is very easy to replace it. iFixit has a guide, and normally I'm terrible at putting things back together but it was a snap.
the ONLY thing I've noticed (and it's a big problem) is that after I did this. the battery life has taken a ****. not that the battery itself is bad but rather the phone believes that 3200mV is about 0% and not the 76% that it actually is (obviously implying that 0mV is 0%)
does ANYONE know what might have been improperly installed? I have no qualms about taking everything apart and putting it back together.
that being said, a new digitizer is about 30$ on amazon or ebay, shouldn't be too hard to replace
Is 3200mv not%0? Cause that's what Its around when it does D: nd ahh. Dunno. I might be on the warranty still and my wii nd Bluetooth don't work. This phone as definitely taken its share of falls lol. But is my phone defective cause it does at around 32;0 mv? Lol

0mV is *not* 0%. 0% is around 3200mV, if it goes lower than that, the battery can get damaged.

It finally happened I have a big dead area on my Atrix. I can no longer type the letters T, G or V. It's weird, in Multi Touch Tester when I put my finger there, it shows points on both sides of the column. It has rendered my Atrix nearly useless. I tried formatting everything and reloading a ROM in CWM and it is still busted. I guess this is the end. Sadly, I can't get a new phone for a few more days.
I'm really disappointed by this. I don't even know what new phone I would get....
Is it even worth replacing the digitizer? It was woring fine this morning, this happened after dinner. A sad, sad day indeed

There is a fix but it's risky, try to find it here.
I think he's talking about the PDS partition fix, might make it easier to find now.

Unfortunately I can't even use the phone in this state. Too much of the screen is hosed. I guess it's back to the 3GS (DOH!!!) and getting a new phone next week.
Not. Happy.

Sent from my MB860 using xda app-developers app
i have the same problem (again)
fist time i hat a part of the upper screen not working now its also the letters t,g,v that seem to be dead areas.
my guesses are that i had my device running under too much heat, as i stresstested it for some periode of time with 80+°C and the letters are near the area of the cpu which was causeing much heat. well now it's just some 30-40 bucks for a new digitizer and 15mins of work for replacement.
little tip: install a cm7-rom and enable 180° rotation so you can use ur phone even in portrait mode. if you have probs with lower screen area just rotate your device
If you get a new digitizer with the frame its pretty easy to fix yourself, not particularly expensive and you should be able to return it easily if it's faulty. Check ebay.

This!
I tried with an "OEM" digitizer off eBay and it was faulty. Got an original used one off eBay with bezel attached in good Nick and it was much easier to fit and works like a charm.
One word of warning, remove the LCD before pushing the digitizer cable through the phone.
Same happened with me and that was after the repair shop tried three replacements lol.
I haven't heard of any problems with the ones with the bezels though!

Does anyone know what causes this problem. Is it heating issues from overclocking?
Starting to get worried after reading about so many fellow atrix users with the dodgy digitizer issue.
I've had mine for one year with another year left until an upgrade so hoping mine doesn't go the same way.

I wish I knew this as well. It must be some sort of separation between the digitizer and the screen because wedging something between the battery and fingerprint reader can improve the touch sensor.

I think its overheating in general. I've never over locked this phone and even simple browsing through xda heats the CPU up to 55-60 degrees.

So, has anyone else had any problems with the battery swelling on the N4? I first noticed that parts of the screen was having what appeared to be a massive light bleed, then after a few hours the back came off. I was not charging the phone so I have a hard time believing there is something wrong with my charger. I have attached a picture showing what it looks like now..

I had the phone in my pocket and only used it for Spotify when I was outside walking. I never checked the temperature when I saw the phone like that for the first time, so actually I don´t know how hot it got. I haven´t found a way to see the max temperature but if someone give me the instructions I gladly will.
I would suggest turning it off immediately and RMA'ing. That is dangerous. I'm really surprised at how bad that has swollen without exploding

Hi
I got my HTC one just under a week ago on three and I'm in love with it. But there are some things I'm worried about. One thing is that when I play games or plug the phone in charge the cool aluminum back becomes rather uncomfortably hot and makes me have to switch hands, it doesn't burn but it does irritate...
Secondly I've seen some posts about gaps at the top and I have those but I was wondering if anyone else has a very fine bulge of the plastic above where the usb port is? I don't know if this is a fault of my phone or it is a general thing so I don't know whether to ask for an exchange or not... If anyone wants pictures of the gap just say!

I can see it, i have excactly the same on my One, im just living with it though as everything else is soo perfect!
The only thing im worried about, is were that is, were the charger plugs in, the 2 little 'Catches' on the charger that hold it in rub on the white bit, in other words the hole seems to small, only slightly, i may contact HTC about this as im a little worried it will cause future problems like a Broken Charger or Charge Point etc. . .
Yeah that's exactly what I was worried about with the charger thing, if you do contact HTC let me know how it goes

Mine gets very hot too, I'm guessing that is a metal thing though, the gaps don't bother me or any slight overhang.
For me the issues are...
Blinkfeed
Heat
slow charging
home button is so hard to hit because it's small and in the corner
no battery percentage
no file search on the phone

Try a launcher or put blink feed to the side and disable all sources? The file search apps on the market do me fine but normally they put something on the battery so there is less heat transfer to one spot I n the metal but I don't think they've done that in the first batch :/ and mine charges pretty fine as well
Sent from my HTC One using xda app-developers app
I too have the overhang on the charging port. I have had two handsets (first one replaced due to gaps at top which moved when pressed) and its been on them both.
Second one has a slight dent/scratch in the white band, so ill wait another week (still in 28 days) and try and get another swap out. I do love the phone, battery life is immense, I'm getting about 2.5 days out of it at mo.
I have owned so many HTC phones it boggles the mind. In that time I have had to have 3 go in for repair. On stopped charging (one S) another had the wifi GPS glitch (one X international) and one just plain died one day to never turn on again (ATT one x+). All of these were taken care of by HTC. Can't say without issue, the international one X they scratched the case and took a little while to get a new one but in the end all my issues were taken care of. I would really say wait until HTC has resolved these issues and then they will take care of you 100%. You will need to be able to send the phone in for repair but they are fairly quick about 10 days total turn around time. They also didn't have any issue at all repairing a international phone at the USA HTC repair center something that is not true with Samsung.
Are you in the UK or America? Cus if you're in the UK I think I can get an exchange as well

Looks like I'm done. Back with my old Gnex. Thanks guys, I'll try to open it and rub with alcohol; can't risk anything anyway.
Could you please explain why trying to turn it on does damage it more?
U can try all the above things but I don't think it would work in this case. Because u didn't pull the battery (not really possible very fast) your phone got short circuited and is probably dead.
Also, if it works your phone will get all sort of other problems after a while. This can be everything from reboots till cam failure.
My advise, sell it and get yourself a new one!

Too much heat is bad for any kind of electric devices. A little warm to dry up is pretty okay, but I recommend no heat at all. Heat will causes expansions that could misshape the devices and leads to other issues (such as disconnect in the mainboard, durability decreased, battery probably wears out faster). Higher temperatures also increase the electrical resistance of the conducting lines, slowing the signal speed and reducing performance.
Learned from my mistake with the ipod touch lol :silly:

Mate... Unfortunately my nexus 4 never turned back on. But then the above tips are very legit, at worst it won't turn on again, but if you're lucky everything could be alright except for your camera which most probably has been short circuited. Did you try to turn it on since it fell in the water?
As for my galaxy nexus which was in my pocket when I fell into a pond full of fish at a hotel, it was fortunately not salt water, survived with my camera short circuited and I think part of my board as well as it became slower but then its still works. It was completely drenched as well.
Well its none of my business, how come yours fell into water? My dad's nexus 4 fell down and the screen was completely shattered :'( we are unfortunate with nexus phones here, phones only as my nexus 10 never had any problems since purchased xD
All the luck be with you
