Certain areas of my ATRIX Screen are no longer responsive.

Certain areas of my ATRIX Screen are no longer responsive. Tried removing my battery and all. Nothing fixed it. Anyone have any ideas?

Have any details? Is it rooted? Unlocked bootloader? Custom Rom? Water damage? Has it been dropped? How long have you owned the phone? 3rd party launcher? Type of screen protector (if there is one)? Scratches on the screen? etc...
If it is running stock then I would use the warranty. If you are running a custom Rom then try flashing it again or something else. If nothing works it probably needs a new digitizer.

If it's all jacked up and your bottom keys don't work either it could be the pds partition if it is google pds partition fix and download and flash the appropriate fix for the version of android you are running.

Sorry for the lack of details. I'm running stock from bell. 2.4.6 I believe. Not rooted or modded. I have had it for 9 months and no water damage it major drops. One tiny scratch but on the other side of the screen.
My last test was to use the Touch Test app and when I run my finger across the screen and it detects touch all the way across except a vertical strip from top to bottom. For instancr I can't use letters w, e, s, z when in portrait mode.
I'm guessing or hoping to be able to get it fixed under warranty.

Yeah, warranty sounds like the best option if the phone is completely stock.

This is a known failure (according to the research I did) that will be covered under your warranty. Mine started doing the exact same thing after 6 months of ownership. There was a 10% strip of unresponsive area in the upper portion of my screen. AT&T shipped me a replacement and all is good.
I found several users who were experiencing the same failure that I was experiencing, so at least I knew it was not just me.

Yea I had the 10% top portion go bad.. Warranty was my only fix.

send it to futuretel under warranty, the details are on the motorola canada website.
i had the same issue, the top row of my keyboard stopped working, and i sent it back without issue.

i will never buy another Motorola devices after experiencing this glitch from the Atrix. I had problem with the screen about two months ago, there are two horizontal lines in the screen that are non-responsive, and since i can't send in for warranty, i had to replace the digitizer at a local shop. after two months and many flashes (i was trying Darkside, Muiu, CM7) and now my screen is messed up at the same places they were wrong before. My experiences with Motorola have been very bad. Motorola in general is not a very good company

Have you been overclocking or keeping your screen in your pocket toward your leg?
The digitizer on any android will burn out using any of those because the phone will get too hot.
When I replaced my digitizer after accidently leaving it OCd all night and slept on it, I woke up with the same issue, and the connector was fried, it literally broke right in half instantly.
I do want to know, why is Motorola a bad company? They have made amazing phones for years, and a lot of them have been widely popular.

I had this happen with my first Atrix out of the box when I bought it. They replaced it at the ATT store.

I had a problem similar to this, notification bar area of my phone would not respond, AT&T wouldn't do sh!t about it until i took it to the local store and demonstrated its unresponsiveness to an employee using a touch test app from the market, it would register the touch and stop for about a 3/4" part of the screen and once i passed the broken section the line i was drawing would appear.
I recommend sending it back, this is my 3rd atrix due to defects. My second atrix had some severe issues, the battery nearly exploded lol.
I have lost all hope in motorola phones, too. Thankfully, i have only owned 2 that were smartphones & not nextels.

I had the same problem with my Atrix, I sent it back to Motorola, and they did replace it under warranty.
My current one seems to have another problem where the haptic feedback fails for no reason.
Disappointed to say the least

Sorry to thread jack OP, but I am too experiencing these issues. Top of screen is unresponsive, and it skips to random home screens. I am running CM7, unlocked bootloader, what is the best way to get my phone back to OEM spec? I want to return it to motorola for 1 year warranty, I really appreciate it guys.

You don't make sense. I've owned a Motorola Nextel phone (i860) and it lasted my whole contract without issues, I then gave it to a family member who used it for a year. Then he gave it to a friend who eventually dropped it in a puddle. Not a bad run if you ask me. I then got the i1 boost android smartphone (not very smart) for the iden network (direct connect) and it lasted till I bought this phone. My cousin still uses my i1. My experience with moto has been great, I had this issue with this phone due to ocing, but they repaired it free of charge (At&t did nothing to help).

[Q] Touchscreen Unresponsive after reboot menu

My touchscreen becomes unresponsive after holding down the power button to get to the Phone Options where the Silent mode, Airplane mode, Choose Profile, Screenshot, Reboot , and Power Off options are located. The touch screen becomes unresponsive, I have to power off the screen for a few seconds and turn it back on and the touch screen will work again. It just started doing this 2 weeks ago. I have tried different roms and no difference. I have performed task 29 no difference, even after fresh installation of roms with no other apps installed
Im suspecting a worn digitizer but not sure because it only does it after phone opentions menu is opened, other than that the touchscreen works fine. Than again not sure if its a rom issue because it does it with different roms even older ones i never had problems before. I just know how to flash roms and basic stuff and not that far advanced
By the way I have the latest MGLDR, and recovery, have performed task 29 and even tried it with the SD card out and same result
Any help would be greatly appriciated especially if you have had this exact problem please i want to hear from you

Broken flat cable from digitizer to mainboard.I had the same problem.

Was it expensive to fix? Or did you fix it yourself? Did you replace the cable, digitizer or just the cable? And thanks for the help

Sure he meant this, in order to make sense!
Solution: another touchscreen/digitizer or even better(but more expensive) new combo(lcd+touchscreen/digitizer)!

I have noticed that after it boots it will let me select an option from the the phone option menu but only when it is fresh of a boot, once the phone settles after a minute or two it's when the problem starts
For the meantime I'm using Quick Boot app from the market since that is the only thing it affects. I will check for prices to replace digitizer. I have seen the digitizers alone on Ebay going got around 10 bucks but I'm scared of the installation lol. I'm going to check the phone repair shop and check how they charge. If it's too much I'll just live with it since the Quick Boot app is working fine.

Well took it to a local repair shop and guy told me the wires looked good and said maybe the motherboard was going out, well if it is guess I'll use my wife's Samsung Vibrant which I must say has never had any problems with, until its time for a contract renewal for me

I highly doubt the board is bad. I already took mine apart, a collection of dust and dirt causes the end button to mess up the contacts. Your board is probably fine if you aren't experiencing overheating or any other symptoms, no offence, he probably just wanted more work to do so they could charge you more. I've done some computer repairs for family and friends and it's ridiculous the bull that repair stores throw at you

I'm not experiencing overheating issues, the guy didn't charge and said he didn't have another motherboard to swap out with and test. He didn't charge me anything at least. I know its ridiculous how much they charge sometimes but its out of warranty so I don't have much choice and I'm scared to take it apart and damage something else but I have no other choice now lol. Did you look at a video before you took your apart?
Also was your phone doing the exact same thing? It does make sense it could be a dirty contact, I work ata Chevy dealer and bad contacts sometimes do weird things but sometimes at the lock screen the touch screen won't work also and I have to turn of t the screen for it to work

Yes exactly the same thing like 100 percent exactly. And yes I did the hardest part is getting the device out of the case lol the rest is quite simple.

Lol thanks I meant after I take the cover off, I was able to take the plastic buttons of but I didn't see much dust, I **** a little compressed air but that's all, how did you clean up the actual buttons?
Well I put it back together after blew the buttons but for a little while the touchscreen was not working at all, I rebooted a few times and it started working but same problem
Just wanted to know how you cleaned the buttons if I'm missing something. I really want to fix it because I don't to use my wife HD2, I'll never hear the end of it from her because I always tell her phone is better lol

Lol. what cover are you talking about? i just followed the one video and blew compressed air through ever little nook and crany. It didnt fix it completely as im not too worried about it since my digitizer is shattered. So i'll be more worried about it once i get a new digitizer. But just follow one of the videos on youtube, they take the thing apart all the way down to individual parts.

Hey use attached apk, and remap one of your other buttons to function as the power button. I have mine set to the green button since i dont use it anyhow. That way the endkey doesnt get used so much. It works perfectly. once i get a new display im gonna rig a way to keep this from happening again.

thanks but now my touchscreen does not work at all now. Maybe it was just the digitizer going bad in my phone. I'm using a Samsung Vibrant which in my opinion sucks, I just got it rooted, now I need install CM7, I miss my HD2 so much. I think I'm just going to order a digitizer from Ebay and try to install myself
damn the HD2 phone owners have so many rom choices compared to this vibrant

Ha, have you tried rebooting the HD2? If i hit the end key, it stops working completely, but after a reboot it works again. So far it hasnt stopped working since i remapped the green key to be power key. And yeah i had to use my Touch Pro 2 until i finally got an HD2. I cant wait to get a job and get an SGS2 though. Thats an amazing phone.

Dropped and sort of working... Help?

THE HORROR:
Had my nexus 16gb plugged in on my bed, knocked it off and cracked the plastic bezel in a 1inch chunk. It still works! Sort of... Except for the backlight. The only way the backlight works is by putting pressure over the spot the bezel cracked in. When it does work, it now has screen bleed issues, and quite badly... The screen works at all times, touch works, the lcd works at all times, it seems to just be the backlight.
The question is: Has anyone had something similar happen? Should i try to get a replacement screen? Take it apart (I'm quite handy with mechanical things) and see if the display connection is loose? Send it to Asus saying "screen is bleeding, new Nexus please?" Then playing dumb about the damage?
Any help would be awesome!
P.S. I'm a Jr in HS, and used the money from my summer job to buy it, and don't have enough left over to buy a new one... Especially since i need a 16gb.

I would send it back like you said, and act as though you had no idea about the damage you just want a perfect device and light bleed doesn't = A perfect device.
That is if your sending it through courier, if you got it from a local store that won't work. As you can't blame it on the shipping :/
Gutted for you btw, dont take this wrong way but SHUDDA GOTTA CASE

It's only 2 weeks old! Seriously have an amazon prime case coming that i ordered before the accident... It's just crap luck... I'll just pretend like i have no.clue what happened, but only after unrooting and installing the stock rom...

I know I should stay out of this, but the same people that are advising you to lie about your damage are the same ones that would flame you for saying that you were using a torrent to get paid games for free.

Never told him to lie just said I hope it works out for him. I feel sorry for a kid that saved his money to buy the device and then has a accident. But I never told him to lie about it. Just to clarify.

Just so both of you know, I posted a couple of ideas with no real preference, and am probably gonna end up opening it tonight and seeing if the connection is loose. The question was about what you would suggest to someone in a bind like mine.
What was the warez apps about though? Just for a metaphor? (If someone asks me how to get paid apps for free i just tell them to pony up $.99, even if i do know where to get it.)

Heat & gap concerns

Hi
I got my HTC one just under a week ago on three and I'm in love with it. But there are some things I'm worried about. One thing is that when I play games or plug the phone in charge the cool aluminum back becomes rather uncomfortably hot and makes me have to switch hands, it doesn't burn but it does irritate...
Secondly I've seen some posts about gaps at the top and I have those but I was wondering if anyone else has a very fine bulge of the plastic above where the usb port is? I don't know if this is a fault of my phone or it is a general thing so I don't know whether to ask for an exchange or not... If anyone wants pictures of the gap just say!

The tiny white bit in the right side, look across the phone and you'll see it better because you can't see the white bit anywhere else... I do have really sharp eyes though so If you can't see it I'm sorry

I can see it, i have excactly the same on my One, im just living with it though as everything else is soo perfect!
The only thing im worried about, is were that is, were the charger plugs in, the 2 little 'Catches' on the charger that hold it in rub on the white bit, in other words the hole seems to small, only slightly, i may contact HTC about this as im a little worried it will cause future problems like a Broken Charger or Charge Point etc. . .

Yeah that's exactly what I was worried about with the charger thing, if you do contact HTC let me know how it goes

Mine gets very hot too, I'm guessing that is a metal thing though, the gaps don't bother me or any slight overhang.
For me the issues are...
Blinkfeed
Heat
slow charging
home button is so hard to hit because it's small and in the corner
no battery percentage
no file search on the phone

Try a launcher or put blink feed to the side and disable all sources? The file search apps on the market do me fine but normally they put something on the battery so there is less heat transfer to one spot I n the metal but I don't think they've done that in the first batch :/ and mine charges pretty fine as well

I too have the overhang on the charging port. I have had two handsets (first one replaced due to gaps at top which moved when pressed) and its been on them both.
Second one has a slight dent/scratch in the white band, so ill wait another week (still in 28 days) and try and get another swap out. I do love the phone, battery life is immense, I'm getting about 2.5 days out of it at mo.

I have owned so many HTC phones it boggles the mind. In that time I have had to have 3 go in for repair. On stopped charging (one S) another had the wifi GPS glitch (one X international) and one just plain died one day to never turn on again (ATT one x+). All of these were taken care of by HTC. Can't say without issue, the international one X they scratched the case and took a little while to get a new one but in the end all my issues were taken care of. I would really say wait until HTC has resolved these issues and then they will take care of you 100%. You will need to be able to send the phone in for repair but they are fairly quick about 10 days total turn around time. They also didn't have any issue at all repairing a international phone at the USA HTC repair center something that is not true with Samsung.

Are you in the UK or America? Cus if you're in the UK I think I can get an exchange as well

Touchscreen dead strip!

I've noticed just today that there's a dead strip on the touch screen. It didn't do this yesterday. The Nexus 4 was dropped once from 2 feet high, but that was almost a month ago and everything worked fine until now.
The screen still looks beautiful, no dead pixels, no cracks, and the phone is in a protective case with a screen protector.
It seems to me that the digitiser crapped out, but I'm not sure why it happened so randomly.
A funny thing though is that when I drag something fast across the strip it works. And sometimes it'll recognise a touch as a long touch or two-fingered touch along the strip. Weird.
I attached a few touch test photos to show the issue.
Hopefully there's a fix. Has anyone else had this problem? And if you had to send it back to Google, was something like this covered under warranty? What should I do?

You can try to replace the screen yourself or tell LG/Google to send a replacement via RMA. They have parts floating around Ebay

How risky/costly is it to replace it myself? And does anyone know if it's covered under warranty? Cause if is, it'll be cheaper just to get a replacement from Google.
Are there other ways to check if it is indeed the digitiser? I've seen that sometimes touch screen problems are software related. And if that's the case, it'll be easy to fix.

Depends. If you follow the instruction properly, it works well. If you screw up, then Google/LG wont be able to help. A lot of people have done it and succeeded. There are great articles on the web. The price of a digitizer would be about $50-70. I MAY BE WRONG WITH THE PRICING.
And does anyone know if it's covered under warranty? Cause if is, it'll be cheaper just to get a replacement from Google.

In most cases no. Because it worked well and suddenly stopped working. Thus Google would say that its your fault. If you are somehow able to convince the Reps that it wasn't your fault, then there is some hope. I

One way is to remove it and put it to a tester or another motherboard and see if it works. But that takes a lot of time and money,

Anything. The phone might have overheaten to the point that it flashed a certain section of a digitizer. It may also be a battery problem that escalated. If you feel that it's software problem, flash a ROM a see if it works.
IMHO You should send it to LG and get it fixed for about $140~.

This problem should be covered under warranty. If you honestly haven't done anything to cause this damage. (I'm also clueless as to what a user could do themselves to make just one section of the digitizer stop working)
Then lasting 5 months or less would not be considered reasonable and you should be entitled to a replacement.
Remember it is down to the retailer to prove that you caused any damage.
And if you honestly did nothing and it just crapped out on you then you should have nothing to fear in sending it back for a warranty replacement

That happen to my iphone when it got water damage. But if you did not do anything wrong, it should be covered by warranty.

EXACT SAME PROBLEM EXACT SAME LOCATION...
i think there is more to this than just user error .. i too did nothing to cause this .. 1 day it was fine and then next morning .. just stopped working 
 @dwong... did you find a solution to this .. did u try claiming warranty.. this should be covered as there is no physical damage .. please do reply to let me know
any1 else have any idea ??!?

I did an RMA explaining everything like I said above. I got my Nexus 4 replaced by Google, and they didn't charge me anything. New Nexus 4 works fine with no issues - I've been using it since May.

Same bug here in Italy where I'm living now even if the the phone was bought last year on UK Play store. Problem is Google rep wrote me RMA can take place only in UK or any other county where N4 was originally available on Play store i.e. NOT Italy.
Does anybody know of a workaround to get the RMA here?

Yeah, I think the overheating might have been what happened to mine. I was using a blackberry charger and I think it might have overheated my battery and fried a strip of my digitizer.

Even i have got the same problem, i dont know who bumped this old thread, but please guide me to for a low cost workaround for my situation
No drop or glass break.. Dead pixel just one..

Anybody found the reason for the issue, i too got the same issue; a dead strip exactly in the middle of the screen, My warranty is over already, so anyone has work around for this??

This looks like a dead thread, but Ill take a punt. I dusted my old Nexus 4 off the other day, which had exactly the same issue with the dead strip on the digitiser. I had tried replacing the screen and digitiser (I have up trying to get the original screen off the original digitiser). The issue remained, so I tried a full factory reset, but that also didn't work. I am now wondering if I should get a cheap motherboard, or try flashing the stock ROM again. Has anyone else had any luck with either?
